These last 2 times we have gone to El chicos we got the same server, Jesse. He is an absolutely amazing server. Hes made each experience so amazing, regardless of any food issues (which were SUPER minor issues). Thanks Jesse! Also, the food is always good! The few times I HAVE strayed away from my shrimp tacos I have not been disappointed.

This is the BEST place in the mall to get food ! They are very professional ESPECIALLY the general manager ! It s super clean and They treat their customers Like royalty not to mention everything had so much flavor , I took my family of 9 and I will DEFINITELY be coming back , 5 stars! First off I want to say this is my first official experience at el Chico. I have always wanted to try it because it used to smell so good walking by. Today I was on a budget but decided to take the risk anyway. We were put on a wait for 15-20 min and the place was close to empty. My son and wife ordered the same entree but both plates were different sides. The tea was terrible and I was told they were making a new batch. I didn t receive a refill until I was getting ready to pay. Even getting cashed out was difficult. The food was below standard and very disappointing. I am sad to say I will not bring my family around that brand again.

First off, they advertise fresh tortillas off the press. Thats a lie, unless they are talking about taking a tortilla out of a package and putting it on a comal. Thats not fresh. The salsa was just pureed picante sauce. The tea was just sweet water with a hint of tea. The waitress was very nice though

I came in for an early dinner with my sister and three kids and Mrs macee, you are a wonderful waitress thank you for being so kind and attentive, the food was good, the atmosphere was the issue there is no reason I should ve heard every waitress including the host saying very absurd things about my waitress was insane, Ladies that is NOT how you should be treating people ESPECIALLY in front of guest! Thank you to Mrs, Kayla for handling this accordingly and making sure to talk to us separate about what went on and apparently this wasn t the first time this happened today alone! I came in for a early dinner with my sister and three kids macee was our server let me tell you she was beyond wonderful and very attentive the food was ok but the Atmosphere is where we had a problem Ive been in the service industry for many many years and to be sitting with my family and watch every waitress bully mine and say some very obseen things about her sent me!!! No one deserves to be spoken to or about in the manner I over heard shout out to Ms. kayla though for hearing my compliments and taking the time to make sure it would be addressed accordingly I will not be back simply based on how rude the other servers were Mrs macee please keep your head up and keep working hard someone somewhere will appreciate your wonderful hospitality and work ethic.

Tried to get seated today and there was nobody in line. The hostess asked for my name and if a 10 min wait was ok. We said no and walked out cause there was nobody else waiting and on top of that, they immediately sat a single man at a table that showed up after us. Will never go here again. It s been years since I ate at this restaurant and let me tell you it was the BESTTT I ve had in a long time!! My mother husband and me were beyond satisfied! Me and my husband had Cheese rellenos and i couldn t believe how good they were! It s been a long time since I had a delicious Chile Relleno and the Cheese Relleno they had it the spot for the both of us! 10 out of 10 recommend! We had our sauce on the side instead on top of the chile and I recommend sour cream or ranchera sauce! & our waiter was the best I ve had as a server! I wish remembered his name but he has a mustache lol love the food and servers thank you for the best highly recommend

The manager was excellent in accommodating my wife and I who are vegetarians. We ordered avocado enchiladas, and they are the best avocado enchiladas, that my wife and I can remember having. So disappointing, we havent had El Chicos in a while, used to be so good, but today was barely edible and to top it off,(literally) there was a dead lady bug on top of my sons rice. They claim the menu and cash register is wrong.That if I want it they will charge me extra. I have never order fajitas at ANY RESTAURANT where you dont get guacamole, pico, cheese. I think we just found our new favorite restaurant in Abilene. I got the burrito bowl, and hubby got beef fajitas. His fajitas were still sizzling hot when served, and he enjoyed every last bite. My burrito bowl was like the food of the gods (seasoned and cooked to perfection). The wait staff was friendly and always checking in to make sure everything was satisfactory, far beyond what I had come to expect in Abilene. We will be returning customers, and recommend this place to anyone that enjoys delicious food at a restaurant quiet enough that you can actually hear yourself think.

We usually really like El Chico. Good food and good service. While at the mall around 7:10 p.m. last night, we decided to dine there. To our surprise, the restaurant had already closed. It seemed odd for a restaurant to shut its doors at 7:00 p.m., especially during the peak dinner hours.

Food came out wrong 3 times. Cool not a problem. The problem I have is that my wife was at the register with the waitress and the Manager came out of the restaurant and said I don t see your wife. I pointed out she is at the register with the waitress. If you assume your customers that come up there 4 times a month will steal food then you no longer need them. We will find another place to eat. Cesar would have never done that to me. Had people looking at me like I was a thief. Not cool.

Todays visit was horrible. Manager behavior was very unprofessional. We only saw our waiter once, when he took our order. Someone else brought out our entrees. We waited and waited. Finally my coworker went to find a to-go box and we had to find another waitress, Juanita, so that we could pay our check. The whole time we were waiting on ourselves, Caesar, the manager was sitting at the table right next to us talking and joking around with the couple that was there. The place was very clean. Without asking, they automatically brought chips, salsa, and cheese dip; going above and beyond. My enchilada fajita meal could have been better. It came with cheese, corn tortillas, more cheese, and meat sprinkled on the top with some veggies inside. The entire plate tasted like cheese, needs more flavor, or add enchilada sauce, seasoning. The veggies are already precooked so most of the natural flavor isnt present. The apple pie was very well presented, came out on a fajitas plate sizzling as the cook poured a buttery sauce over the top of the ice cream and pie. The skillet was over 400 degrees, burning the pie to it. I recommended using a skillet of 220-300 degrees performing the objective without burning the desert. Although the dinner tasted like 1500 calories with all the cheese, and the bottom of the pie grilled to the plate, the staff followed their training. Their beverages were the largest Ive seen. I enjoyed my visit and left my advice to the staff. Hopefully, they can make some adjustments to crank out a 5 star. That dessert presentation was awesome, I havent seen anything like that in Abilene. And to be honest, I cant wait to return, to either try new plates, offer advice, or see what they can do.

So I have been here a few times hoping with each time I order something new I might find something I really enjoy. Grilled chicken with the corn on top veggies are really good. The rice is a no go forsure. We ordered enchiladas as well and didnt care for them. The waiters are everything though they make you want to go back and at least have drinks. I havent been here in a very long time and coming back is probably the best decision I have ever made. The food is always so fresh and the service is top notch. I mainly come because free queso, I dont know any other place in town that offers that. I also love the flavor of the salsa and that its not crazy hot to eat just perfection. Only negative I have is the rice. The rice is pretty terrible almost like pilaf. Its not normal Mexican rice so I skip out on it. Oh first time having the apple pie for dessert and I highly recommend!

Ordered the Beef fajita plate and received 5 peaces of small meat. Then the tortilla were nasty store bought tortillas Not their homemade ones they use to have. Asked the manager on duty if this was correct amount of meat for a $15 order of fajita and she said yes. I then asked when they changed tortillas and she said just recently. The restaurant staff were awesome. I told the owner/manager that, and I said how they operated like a finely tuned orchestra. He was really appreciative and took the time to tell me how he was blessed to have the staff he has. He told me how important El Chico is to him and how he started there at 15 and worked his way up to manager and owner. I could tell he really cares about his customers, the business and his employees. The food was really great. I had tacos and a beef enchilada with rice and beans and it was all perfectly cooked. I never had to ask for a refill. The wait staff, even in a busy environment, had eagle eyes, and they really hustled to get us everything we needed in a timely manner. I was super impressed. I live in Austin and my wife and I were visiting family in Abilene. If all of my family were to leave Abilene, El Chico would be reason enough to make the visit. Excellent Customer Service! Food was very good. Very flavorful. Had to buy extra chips & queso it was SO GOOD! Nice restaurant. Christmas season is here. I m looking for a good ALBONDIGAS soup & POZOLE. I m not a tripe/menudo person and that s all I seem to find here in Abilene Texas. But if any restaurant is capable of a few pots for Christmas, I m confident it s this one.

I had not ate all day. Had cheese enchilada and beef burrito on special. Burrito was dry and bland. Enchilada was tough. Not easy to cut. Chicken tacos on appetizers were good. Youngest grandson got his cheese enchilada plate late as waitress forgot to turn in his order. When it came out it had chili sauce on it. Queso had been requested. Back to the kitchen . Comes back out correctly. By this time rest of family is through eating. On his second bite he looks up like he was going to throw up. He spit something into a napkin. He said there was something hard in that bite. Hes done. Pushes his plate back. This child is ADHD with autism. An enchilada plate is the only plate of food he will eat where his food touches other food. Was very disappointed on this particular day as we have always enjoyed our food here.

If you want a bad time, this is the place to go! this is the worst mexican food I have Ever stomached. Shrimp tacos were so sad the ocean must be running out of shrimp and our farms must be running out of produce. My childs plate looked like diarrhea. My wifes nachos? Dont get me started. Recommend 10/10 to never go back.

This is the most friendly restaurant. Caesar is very welcoming and another woman who said it was her restraunt. The waitress (Juanita, I think) was super sweet and informative about the menu. Free chips and salsa. Sweet tea was a little too sweet, and Im a southern gal so thats saying something. I added a little water and was good. The food was delicious, fresh and hot. We will be back.

This place was horrible. My family and I tried this place for the first time and it was awful and expensive. The waitresses were nice, Ill give them that. They sat us, greeted us, and took our orders in a timely matter and overall were super nice. But when the food was brought out, my plate was cold. I ordered the taco dinner and all of my tacos were cold. You could tell the flour tortillas had been sitting out for a while because not only were they cold, but they were stiff. One of my family members got a completely different order, the extra tortillas were burnt and falling apart, and the guacamole was brown and bad. Overall, there are better restaurants in abilene if you want Tex Mex. But I personally will never be dining at El Chicos again.

If I could give zero stars, I would. We went to El Chico for lunch today. We were sat at a booth at 2:45. As we were looking at the menu others were sat and brought chips and drinks. By 3:00, we still had not had a server come to our table to take a drink order. Several other waiters came by and refused to make eye contact with our table. Since no one would look at us, instead of asking for someone to take our order we left. No one even noticed we left. We were not acknowledged or thanked for coming. Will most likely not return based on this experience since their are many other restaurants in Abilene that will serve customers.

Food was okay, waitress was really nice and attentive. 14.99 for 4 pieces of fajitas that come on a small dish, with the rice and beans, seems a little too much, for that small of a portion of food. Flour tortillas were hard, and food made our stomachs hurt. We ended up in the rr most of the night. Other than that the atmosphere seemed nice. But we probably will not be returning.

Went to el chico for lunch today and a roach starting crawling on the wall and toward our table. We had to move tables and I quit eating. They apologized and gave us $9 off of our bill apologizing hoping we would come back. I think the meal shouldve been comped since we didnt want to eat anymore and had to move tables but the staff did their best not being the owner or in charge which is why I gave 2 stars. It was really gross and ruined our appetite or ever wanting to go back. I mean literally crawling on the walls trying to get on our table. Whats in the kitchen...............?

Terrible. Not a good experience at all. The food is way too over priced for the small portions served. The drinks had food particles swirling around the bottom of the cup and my food had a fly in it. My grandaughters food was not fresh, it looked like it was reheated and served again. The guacamole was brown because it was old. 10/10 would not recommend if you are looking for an authentic tex mex experience
