Pretty neat place. The layout is really decent with plenty of signage. The exhibits are great, my favorites are the giraffe area and the ark where they house the aquariums. Great place for a nice, almost peaceful stroll. Expect many families with their children. Oh yeah, the water features close to the entrance (depending on which way you go) are pretty awesome.

Loved this zoo today . We were able to see their one yr old jaguar; we saw her when she saw her keeper and she got so excited; she was excited running and trying to pounce towards where her keeper was. We had the chance to chat w her keeper for a few minutes. That jaguar was sooooo happy ! As were so many of the other animals just healthy and so happy . Also vultures have a roost and a home there but they are there by choice . They could easily fly away nothing is keeping them there . There is no cage or anything keeping them there . Also I read another reviewer who said knee scooters would be easy to use there . I have a knee scooter and I completely disagree, the hills , particularly uphill is difficult for someone w a knee scooter many times I had to walk with it but thankfully I can do that . There was someone pushing her mother in a wheelchair it was hard overheard discussing the strength it took to go up the hills and down the hills . So an amazing zoo but I disagree about the ease of using a knee scooter; and really using the brake allot going downhill on my knee scooter . But loved the zoo . Took two hours to go through and that s with me on a knee scooter but small kids who came in same time as us also left at 2 hours .

The zoo is well laid out. There are strategically placed site maps that help you navigate the zoo. Its not huge but, wear comfortable shoes. One thing to note is that the smell in the bird exhibits is extremely nauseating ( its really awful you may need to wear a mask going in there). Birds are out on top of tree huge black birds!! Its also very humid in general so you may need a portable fan, an umbrella and perhaps a bottle of water.

Being born and raised in Waco Ive come to this zoo easily 20+ times in my life, I even volunteered and worked here at one point. Its my favorite place on earth and I love taking my out of town friends here- theyre always so impressed with it! They dont have as many animals as zoos in large cities, but they make up for it with the size of the exhibits the animals are in. I always hate going to a zoo and seeing animals in concrete rooms, but the Cameron Park Zoo goes above and beyond to make sure the animals are healthy and enriched. I was so happy I got to see the new African penguin exhibit! I will always recommend people go here when they visit Waco!

I visited the Cameron Park Zoo today. 8/16/24. I havent been here since my first visit back in 1995. Only good thing was my entry fee for Seniors. Other than that all the one star reviews are correct. Same as my visit in 1995, Exhibits Closed, One animal looking pitiful in most enclosures, BUZZARD Display took over the Bear exhibit. And Associates, offer no help what so ever. Sad to say it was my Final visit. Sea World here I come.

2/5 for animal happiness and habitat. We witnessed 2 pelicans attempting to eat a small Spiderman toy and after calling the zoo it still took nearly 10 minutes for someone to respond and remove the danger. Most of the animals live in concrete cells with only their minimum living requirements being met. There was a group of penguins housed in what appeared to be a concrete cell, with a tiny pool. There was barely enough room for all the penguins to stand on the surface without being crowded. The bats in the bat house were not even visible due to the amount of feces on the windows. The water in nearly every exhibit smelled and looked absolutely rancid. We witnessed 3 dead animals decomposing in fish tanks that have clearly been there longer than they should have. Most of the animals seem depressed and severely stressed. I was so sad to visit this zoo. They have really degraded over the years.

Youd have to be crazy to go to a zoo in Texas in summer right? Not at all if you go to Cameron Park zoo. This place is built to bust the heat. The covered walkways create the perfect shade as you walk along. There are plenty of COLD water stations along the way to quench your thirst and refill your water bottles. The exhibits are also a mix of indoor air conditioned spaces and outdoor spaces. Walk outdoors a bit and just when youre getting hot, theres an indoor exhibit with a water station and clean bathrooms. The exhibits and habitats were all well maintained and the animals seemed well taken care of. You could get really close to some of the animals here. Theres a really good mix of native animals and others from around the world to enjoy. Theyre doing a bunch of upgrades around the property, lemur Island was closed and the new penguin exhibit wasnt open yet, but it looks really fun. We ordered food at the cafe for lunch and it was better than expected. The staff was friendly and active taking care of the facility.

Some things I loved about this zoo was the built in shade they created everywhere and how many inside exhibits they had! Something s I noticed were that they didn t have many large animals! They had many different smaller animals like snakes turtles fish and more. But I was extremely impressed to see that they had a rhino! And we went on a Saturday and it was not at all busy which is a nice change! Overall I feel like this zoo is up and coming and will only get better.

19 years ago I brought two of my grandchildren (2 and 4 years old) here for my first visit now on my second visit I brought 3 more grandchildren (Infant, 4 and 6 years old). Clearly it is still a great place for young kids to enjoy seeing animals. The grandchildren had been to other zoos but had never seen a live elephant so they were very happy when they saw one. As for me having a 19 year gap between visits it gave me the impression that maintenance of some areas has diminished. Several areas where water is involved it smells of stagnate water. The water by the bear had green algae on top and by the otters the water had a greenish look. (I ve attached a picture from the otter area from 19 years ago and during this visit as a comparison.) Still worthy of a visit to bring kids.

It is a nice zoo but is pretty small. When we went there their were hardly any animals on display or their were veterinary notices. The parking lot is ridiculously small, their was no available parking by 10am. We overheard some people and they said they had to park in cameron park and walk to the zoo. The zoo IS wheelchair accessible. I used my powerchair for this trip, my custom manual chair would have worked fine too and had no issues at all. I will say all doors and spaces are normal size probably 30-32 inches not the standard handicap accessible size of 36 inches. I dont use a bariatric size chair so I dont know if a bariatric size chair would fit through the doorways or all the exhibits. My power chair fit fine through the doorways and all exhibits, its probably 20 inches wide and my manual chair has angled wheels which would make it around 24-26 inches wide and it still would fit fine. Some of the spaces in the indoor exhibits are a little smaller/narrower than the doorways so if youre in a larger chair you may have trouble maneuvering in some of the exhibits. Their are MANY hills and ramps so manual chair users your arms WILL be tired (Im super happy I decided to use my power chair). I got to feed the Giraffes and that was also wheelchair accessible, I was able to roll right up to the Giraffes and feed them.

Im not sure where these other people that gave such high stars went that we did not but this was probably the worst zoo weve ever been to matter of fact we left halfway through without even seeing the rest. It was not well kept a lot of the tanks or cages were either empty or filthy. It seemed run down and disorganized. Went up a main path to get to the end and find out we had to just circle back on the exact same path to get back to the front of the zoo. Signs are not well marked and many of the animals seem to be in very small cages for their size. Dont recommend it at all and certainly would not drive out of my way to see it

A very nice zoo, clean and well cared-for. we went on a weekday and it was pretty empty, but it was nice because we had plenty of time to see everything. I was a little disappointed because the restaurant was closed, but there were some trucks with shaved ice and a good coffee shop. Plenty of clean bathrooms and benches to rest. Great place to spend the day.

Small, cute and family friendly. The only negative experience is the overwhelming amount of vultures that hangout in the old bear exhibit.

This zoo was very disappointing!! Drove an hour to bring our two granddaughters that was from another state visiting. Nothing on the web stating that there were so many of the exhibits closed or under maintenance. Once we got there then we were told. Asked if there was a discount since we weren t able to see much. (No) I decided to go ahead and pay and enter since the girls was really looking forward to it. Didn t get to hardly see any of the animals, even the ones that was available. Recommend calling ahead of time and ask question before making the drive.

There are too many vultures around the zoo, such a horrid smell. My grandson was afraid of them. The zoo could use a complete upgrade. Plant more trees and invest in a water mist system. If amusement parks can build a jungle so can you. Its kind of sad seeing the animals laying around in the hot sun, looking pitiful.

Ive been here a couple of times and overall had a good experience. I gave 4 stars because some of the exhibits were under maintenance or construction, so there were several areas that couldnt be seen. However, Im sure Ill update my rating once everything is back up and running. Despite this, I still recommend visiting. Its a great place for family fun!

My favorite zoo of all time! All animals have plenty of space and look really well taken care of. You have to walk a lot more because of it but I don t mind! Lots of variety and they have temperature controlled nursing pods! My children LOVE this zoo!

I was very impressed with how much space and life enrichment toys the animals had. Its one of those zoos where you can take hours walking around if you want to. I really enjoyed my time there.

We went for the BFF Monday deal. We got there as soon as it opened and had no wait. The zoo was great. Good variety of animals and plenty of shade and photo ops. The animals seemed well cared for.

I have no idea where the good reviews are coming from for Cameron park zoo. We had a horrible experience at this zoo. When we arrived we were informed that the bears, giraffes, owls, monkeys, several big cats, and inside aquarium with fish and reptiles were closed exhibits that day due to the recent storms. There was no discount for not being able to see these animals either. The few animals we did see looked so incredibly angry and depressed. Their cages looked unkept and filthy. You can t even find or see the animals in these awfully kept exhibits. The poor bison looked absolutely awful. The lions looked so angry and unhappy. The entire zoo was swarming with bees due to the overflowing trash in seemingly every trash can. There were bees everywhere! There is absolutely no sense of direction at this zoo either. The brush is so overgrown that animal exhibits you re supposed to be able to travel to next are missed because it seems there s no way to get to them. It s a dirty, smelly maze with bees swarming around every corner and empty exhibits or locked doors with people just walking around aimlessly looking at each other trying to figure out where to go next. The vending machines only had a small selection of the same sodas or Deja Blue over and over again. There was also only ONE working water fountain in the entire park. Not a good experience. The Fort Worth zoo is your best bet if you re looking for a fun zoo experience. If you re looking for a bee exhibit or you re a beekeeper looking to stock up on free bees then I recommend this zoo. What a buzz kill.

Went on an early Thurs afternoon. I, 31F & my son 5M, really enjoyed it. Loved the fact that many exhibits were indoors, penguin enclosure was still being constructed so that was the only down side. Very small kid friendly & alot smaller than the Dallas zoo which I appreciated even more.

Good option to visit on a family weekend, variety of animals and easy to see, children have fun learning. It would be very useful if they sold caps and hats at the beginning of the visit to the zoo and not at the end of it.

This zoo itself is super fun and family friendly but the employees are TERRIBLE. I went to the cafe at the front of the park to get an iced coffee and I was met with 2 extremely rude people who acted like I had ruined their day by walking in. I ordered at the counter and the guy looked at me and said Oh, she ll take your order over there. So I had to repeat my order to the other employee who was playing on her phone. It took forever to get my coffee which ended up being milk and syrup that I threw away after a few sips. Employees in the gift shop also acted like they hated their job and couldn t be bothered to even pretend to be polite.
