Date of occurrence: 21st of September, 2024 Food: The food was absolutely lovely to taste, I ordered a pork chop with egg fried rice, whilst my girlfriend ordered a boy of curry and vegetables with cauliflower rice. The pork chop came with an omelette on top, which added a nice extra texture to the meat. The vegetables are what you expect of cooked vegetables; nothing surprising, but just fine. The curry was rich in taste, especially with the subtle kick of Asian spices mixed into. Drinks: I ordered creamy hot tea with Chrysanthemum, whilst my girlfriend ordered iced Vietnamese coffee. The tea, coming in a small tea pot with a small tea cup, was delicately delightful. I found the after taste to be quite quaint, though if you like cups, then I recommend asking for a cup because otherwise youll get a Lilliputian tea cup that requires baby sips. The coffee, as my girlfriend detailed, had a strong caffeine after taste, but the initial taste was pleasant. The aroma of the coffee, as she detailed, was also pleasant. The taste of the coffee got better once the ice melted. Atmosphere: The atmosphere was pleasant, but nothing unwonted. It is the usual one can expect in Texas, as long as you arent causing a scene, or being disruptive. Service: I was swift to become cognizant that the staff team was on the short end for the day. Three people running what looked like a Lilliputian bar, reception, taking orders, checking on customers, cleaning, etc. For this, I am content with the wait time. It took maybe 10 or 15 minutes, but with the hassle of being short-staffed, it is important to be considerate of this fact. The staff are friendly and patient, as long as you dont test their buttons or make a scene of course.

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I never write reviews but this place deserves this review to warn people of the terrible food and service. I respect people s time and money therefore I think I m doing my due diligence of putting this review on here to prevent future people from feeling scammed and cheated. I came here with my friends and loved ones to have lunch after graduation. My friend who was graduating ordered a vegan pho which came out differently than what she ordered in a prior visit. It tasted disgusting and the broth was just not right. It was extremely sour, almost like food when it goes bad. When it was brought to attention, they sent the bowl back to the kitchen and brought out the same bowl of pho. Unbelievable. My friend did not eat her meal due to how bad the food was. When asked if the item can be taken off the bill, our waiter (who claims he is the manager) said that she would be charged for both bowls?? This is absurd due to the fact that she did not eat either bowls. We asked to speak with the manager and the waiter said he was the manager and that the other manager was busy cooking in the kitchen. He said it was the owner s policy to charge as such and after some debate, said that we would need to pay for one of the bowls. I ve never been to a restaurant that would not compensate for bad food. Not only that, the service was slow and the waiter had an attitude when taking our orders and serving us. He treated us like we were an inconvenience, rather than customers. Owner, if you are reading this I hope you reconsider your policies and choice of employees. Future customers, if you would like to be valued and treated with respect and good food please go somewhere else.

Great Waco restaurant. Known for Pho and other treats, but stop by in randomly for seasonal treats. The mango pork belly was phenomenal: tender, sweet, spicy, just heavenly goodness. Can get busy depending on the time but well worth it. Vegetarian options: A lot of dishes can be made with tofu for the protein or just veggies.

Was second in line for the reopening and the decor was beautiful! It was lovely as was our waiter and food. I ordered the pho w/meatball and wanted a 32 oz bowl but I believe they only serve that size for dinner so I got a 20 oz instead. For $11 it was delicious and very filling definitely check them out! Edit: while I still come regularly and enjoy the pho, some days the pho is extremely bland and its really disappointing

The food is not great, certainly not real Pho and much too expensive for what it is, which is basically chicken noodle soup with some basil on the side. And just as a reminder to the people at the restaurant reading this review - fish sauce and eggs are NOT vegan and should not be listed as such. I mean, come on, you guys.

Visited Clay Pot for the first time in years on a trip home and was underwhelmed. I used to absolutely love this restaurant, but todays experience was disappointing. The staff were extremely rude. When we arrived, the restaurant was empty besides three occupied tables, but the hostess told us off for not calling ahead for a party of 7. When the food came out, one of the dishes was not what we ordered and the waitress, irritated, slammed down one of the curries on the table so that it sloshed everywhere with no apology or offer to help clean up. The missing dish was obviously rushed and undercooked when brought out. And then, when the last member of our party joined, the waitress made it clear she was not pleased another person had arrived and, before even taking their order, felt it necessary to inform them that they would have to wait for their food as if they had demanded special treatment. Very strange experience and not one Im particularly interested to repeat, regardless of how delicious the food was.

I m definitely not coming back to this restaurant even though the food was FANTASTIC and I m definitely NOT RECOMMENDING this place to anyone. Just a huge let down of an experience especially after hyping up this establishment to my family of 7! Kid-friendliness: They have high chairs.

My husband and I always try a new pho place in every town we visit, so when this came up with 4.4 stars out of 1000+ reviews, we were happy to try it. The restaurant is clean, and well decorated. I know because we stood at the hosts stand for over 5 minutes without a single person even acknowledging we existed, so we had plenty of time to look around. Two of the employees were clearly busy, while a third stood at the back counter for the entire duration of our visit, and apparently it wasnt their job to assist the other two in any way. We finally got sat, and the person who sat us literally just grabbed menus, had us follow them, and then told us the server would come, but not once did they even make eye contact with us? Weird, but not really a big deal in and of itself. Except then we sat, and sat, and sat.... Finally a server wandered up and half-assedly took our order. The whole time we watched another couple standing up front just being ignored. Our hot tea came out first, but with no sugar, offer of sugar, and our table didnt even have condiments. My husband had to grab a set of everything off of a nearby table. And the person who prepared the tea just dropped a tea bag into a pot of hot water, instead of pouring the water over the tea bag, so it was really weak, even for a jasmine tea. Food came out in a reasonable time frame and was served, and it was ok. Not great, but certainly not the worst pho weve ever had, except it came without chopsticks or veggies, so we had to sit and wait for those to come out separately. We ate, and never saw our server back at our table the entire time we ate. We did watch multiple groups wait at the front being ignored. Some waited, some left, and some seated themselves. We were pretty close to taking bets on which one it was going to be, when our server finally reappeared and we asked for our check. They... Dont do checks? He picked up a hand-held thing, read the total at us, and stuck it out for us to put a card in. That was it, and then he looked annoyed when I had it print a paper check, instead of text one. Except, we get our paper check (after weve paid and cant make corrections), and it turns out they double charged my husband for the meat in his pho. We just left at that point. Pho can be really hit or miss, but this place was definitely a miss.

This place was horrible. The food was over priced and over salted. We ordered beef pho, steamed dumplings, and ox tail. The pho broth was way too salty and the noodles were chewy (undercooked) The ox tail was too salty and a small portion for $28. The white rice was hard it seemed old. The bean sprouts were brown and when we mentioned all the issues the servers said it was normal. Please don t go here. It s a waste of money for gross food. Server was awkward. You are better off going to an authentic Vietnamese restaurant.

This place is an absolute scam!!! The pho is not good quality at all and they tried to skimp my mom out on extra tendon (which we paid $4.49 for) by adding no tendons to the pho and a tiny piece of fat. Sure on the menu adding additional protein to the pho is $.50 but what they don t tell you adding more than one protein is $4.49. I m disappointed that this is where I took my parents when they came to visit Baylor. :(

Okay, gave this place another chance and it didnt disappoint. Last time I came to this place was in 2021 and didnt come back until today. I like that we can simply order now at front. I realized I didnt give enough chance to explore this place more. I got pho and I would say that even they didnt give the usual toppings to the pho (Thai basil, sprouts, pepper etc), Id grade it A- for the broth. I only tried the beef brisket though. Ill try the beef tenderloin next time and maybe it will be A+. We will see, I still like Sugar Spice pho, so this really comes as a tie since they didnt serve the toppings. The vermicelli bowl is great too, the pork meat is fantastic! But again, its missing the chopped spring rolls toppings and the vinegar sauce. The meat is really good though! I just dont like that they use a larger noodles in the vermicelli bowls. The dumplings look and taste authentic like homemade. Altogether, a great experience and evening. They have a patio at the back too, nice place to get away and not feel youre in an Asian fastfood.

Dont be misled by the prices that you see as you wait for service: they arbitrarily charge more at the counter. Food is decent but not exactly exciting. If I were to return, I would likely order a loaded phó bowl; the sesame chicken was uninspiring. Parking: The lot at the end of the block was almost full, and I dont know where the overflow parking is.

I gave 3 stars because of the food. It was our first time here and no one acknowledged us when we walked in. We pretty much firgued it out that we had to order from the counter on our way to leave (but still decided to support our Vietnamese business). The waitress who took our order was friendly. But we wish we were told to take our chopsticks and sauces. We sat at the patio it was nice setting. However, the waitress was unfriendly and cold. When we walked out, not one staff acknowledged or just simply smiled or said bye. We were pretty much feel unwelcome, sadly. Otherwise, the food was fast and tasty. Both of us had mixed feelings and frankly might not be back here again.

The most disgusting food I have ever eaten. If I could give negative stars I would. The food tasted horrible. Water: we were giving dirty cups they were supposed to be clear but they were so scratched up and used they were brown Sesame chicken: I have never seen a restaurant take fried chicken strips and cut them up and call it sesame chicken. If you can imagine Sonics popcorn chicken mixed with water down sesame sauce then you can imagine this dish. Down right horrible and a slap in the face to the culture of the food it was trying to represent. Meatballs: Salty and tasted like they had cleaning products in them. Egg rolls: Tasted like they had cleaning products in them, but fried I m not sure who is leaving the 1100 reviews, but totally misleading. Im assuming it was a promotion or paid thing because this was nasty as heck.

Man.. this place was disgusting. My girlfriend and I went here for lunch and ordered the chicken egg rolls, pineapple fried rice and sesame chicken Idk how these place has so many good reviews.. maybe they were paid for. Only thing this place has going is a nice patio Every single item tasted like the food went bad. My pineapples tasted like cardboard, the food was unseasoned, the sauces were gooey vs being a liquid. Some bites of the food tasted like dish washing soap. We left after a about 5 bites it was unbearable and we didn t want potential food poisoning. Avoid this place and just go elsewhere.

Some advice to the owners...the wait staff are unfriendly (no smiles) and the green tea should have leaves and not tea bags. Otherwise, the food was tasty and great and well prepared.

I used to eat here all the time when I lived in Waco and loved it. Unfortunately was not the case today. Had spring rolls and the shrimp was fishy smelling and peanut sauce soupy and watered down. Had the steak stir fry that they claimed was tender, flavor was okay but extremely chewy and cheap cut of meat. Probably wont ever come back.

We were traveling and dropped in for a bowl of Pho. The chicken broth was wonderful and flavorful. The beef broth was exquisite, and the beef was melt-in-your-mouth tender. If youre a pho-natic, youll love this place! We try Pho in different cities quite often, and this ranks as one of the best bowls weve ever had. Its really that good.

I m honestly a little surprised at so many great reviews for this place. My husband and me recently ate here on a weekend visit to Waco, as it s supposedly rated one of the top restaurants in the area. I should ve listened to the other negative reviews but thought to myself that maybe the other people were just hypercritical. We ordered grilled pork spring rolls to start and the rice paper was so hard it was inedible. The inside wasn t bad but it s hard to enjoy something when you can t even eat the whole thing. The peanut sauce also had zero peanut flavor oddly enough. My husband ordered the grilled pork and pork egg roll vermicelli and I got the pork egg roll vermicelli. The best part of both dishes was the pork egg rolls. The remainder of the dish lacked serious flavor. I definitely would not revisit this restaurant.

I dont understand the hype of this restaurant. We are Vietnamese-American and were severely disappointed in the quality and taste of the food. The pork bowl had a gamey flavor and was not chargrilled like in most vermicelli bowls. My kids would not touch the chicken egg rolls as they had a dull non-seasoned flavor. Also the access to this restaurant is a nightmare due to construction.

This is my second time being here. When you walk in the menu is on a large banner before you get to the counter to order. I had Stans pot with brown rice and tofu. It was nice and hot. Good chunks of tofu. I used chopsticks, but I did need a spoon at the end. I will definitely be going there again to explore more of their menu. The place was quiet, clean, and the staff was friendly.
