Great. I had rare ribeye and it was grilled perfectly. The fries were seasoned and done just right. He had the brisket enchiladas and said they have the best flavor. The food came out timely so I was able to eat my salad before the main course arrived. Very satisfied with our server and atmosphere at Papa Bear.

We just ate here for the first time and it was delicious! We got the green chili patty melt which comes on a sourdough bun which was soo good. I was surprised by the atmosphere being nicer than the outside looks and we sat on the patio which is shaded in the evening. Our waitress Frannie was great. Will definitely be back. Kid-friendliness: Kids liked the burgers and fries. Said it was the best :)

Nice place as soon as we walked in the door the service was amazing. Our waitress Roseanna was so nice and sweet. Her beautiful smile lit up the room. I give her service a million out of one hundred. The food was hot and delicious. I had chicken fried chicken and my husband had chicken fried steak. I highly recommend Papa Bear for lunch or dinner and ask for Roseanna you wont be disappointed. Yes they are open for breakfast lunch and dinner.

UPDATE: I have not been to this place since theyve rebranded. I cant speak to the experience now. If the food is the same, theyve gradually struggled with quality issues. Downgraded to 3 stars from 4 Ive been to Jon Lillies twice and have gotten a mixed experience. First off, the service has been excellent both times Ive went. They almost make you feel like family there. It seems like the people working really do enjoy being around each other. Serving sizes are generous. Its slightly pricier than average Id say. 1st time I got the green chili burger and it was one of the best burgers Ive had recently. I was very impressed. Draft dos equis was great as well. Super cold. 2nd time I got the fries gone wild, which was just chili cheese fries. Ive made better at home. I was disappointed by that, especially for the price. The server however recommended a great espresso pie that was extremely delicious. Id recommend Jon Lillies for the service alone. Stick with the steaks and burgers and youll have a good time.

Dont do it. Just save yourself the time and $. Listen, I even asked to talk to the manager before we walked out because I was concerned about the quality of our food versus what the reviews we read said... it should have been much better and he seemed more concerned with jumping over me talking to make excuses (he said he was the GM) then telling me I should have asked for him at the table. We didnt want to make a scene in front of other customers just let him know on our way out about the: Only iceberg core salad, 1/2 instead of whole chicken fried steak, said chicken fried steak being tuff as heck and mostly breading, super slick floors (he says from sweating but it was clearly a residue of some sort; they were greesy), and most atrocious of all was the state of the womens bathroom that had poop splattered on toilet bowl, toilet was unseated from ground, toilet seat loose on stool, broken soap and towel dispensers, and dirty toilet paper and towels on floor. Im very sad that the reviews werent right. The service was ok, I had to flag waiter down several times but it is definitely an experience Im not interested in repeating.

Two people eating: same steaks ordered and supposedly prepared the same. One was full of fat and inedible. The other was overcooked. Asked for baked potatoes. Was asked if wanted loaded potatoes. Supposed to have butter, sour cream and cheese and bacon. One was swimming in butter and barely had sour cream. The other one was dry and same small amount of toppings. The corn tasted like wax and was severely overcooked. My elderly companion asked for her steak to be cut and they sent the manager over to tell her that it was against policy for the cook to cut it but they would cut it into strips and I had to cut it up for her to eat it. Beer was warm and it advertised as a steak house but its a glorified Mexican restaurant that serves bad steak

The outside may look forgettable, but inside this local haunt is serving up scratch-made texas country classics in texas sized portions that your tastebuds wont forget. Imagine if Texas Roadhouse made good food, and thats the reality at Jon Lillies. Went on a Thursday for dinner. TL;DR is if you are in the mood for a Texas country dish like a loaded spud, ribs, or chicken fried steak, this is one of the best places to get it in Waco. **Pricing** You can get fancy, but you can also get a cheese burger with fries for $7.50, which is literally cheaper than Whataburger. **Food** Everything was spot-on with freshness, taste, and quality. **Ambiance** Pleasant and tasteful, but casual. Country chic is the best way to describe it. TIPS: Parking can be challenging and they say the bank tows, but theres a big lot to the side of the building next to wine shop.

On 2.17.2024....So Ive heard about this place and drove by this place for about a year and lines waiting in the heat of summer. They got 1st place Margarita at 22nd Annual Waco Margarita and Salas Festival, should have gotten one since lunch cost $75, no alcohol, for 3 people. I got the 10 oz Ribeye and the ladies got Ribeye Fajitas. 2 waters and 1 coke. We got free hot sauce, which was good. Service was good, the atmosphere was nice and the food was mediocre. Its a maybe for a second visit.

Went to have dinner this evening. Only 2 of us in our party, restaurant was not packed or super busy. We sat down and waited about 5-10 mins. No one came up to us or acknowledged us to-say some one will be right with you . A large incomplete party came in and with in a min had a waitress already takin their drink orders. Very un-professional wait staff. Hostess was very nice greeted us and set us in bar area. The waitress took our order and we waited for our food which did take a little while. Food was just ok. What concerned me is the waitress left her area to change a babys diaper then returned and describe the output while people were eating. She also took a young child behind the end of the bar and said child was behind the bar area walking around. That is no place for a child to be and I would think against TABC rules. No reply is needed as we will not be returning.

Ive been here many times, both for lunch and dinner. ALL the food Ive had here has been exceptional. But this review will focus on the steaks. You will NOT be disappointed in the flavor of these steaks. Simply put, best steaks in town, no wait, in Texas. You can tell they are Flame Grilled and smoked, no liquid smoke on these cuts. My gage on a good steak is, if I have to add steak sauce, and the steak cannot hold its own, then its not in the Best category. These steaks do not need anything extra to please your taste buds.

Ribeye and sirloin steaks were made just like we wanted(medium-rare). The fried pickles were a little salty but nothing the house ranch didnt fix. Mac n cheese was really good, as were as the onion rings. The only downside was the wait time on the food. Took them almost 40 minutes and it seemed fairly slow. Really the best way to sum up this experience would be...so-so. Went to crle a birthday. Waited about 40 minutes for the food to come to the table and most of our food was luke warm or cold. Nothing really special about anything we had. Best part of our visit was the desert. Which also took an incrediblely long time to come out. Our waiter was great. Checked in often and was patient when taking our order. I dont think Ill be back on my own. The menu is large and I feel like thats why the time and quality of the food is what it is.

Read reviews and was leary of coming because of service and food issues. Well those reviews were right sadly. I was hoping to prove them wrong. Confused with the menu here on Sunday afternoon thinking this is a steakhouse and the only thing on the menu that was close to steak was steak and eggs so got that. It was a limited menu from what I saw online be warned. :( Some who frequent here said this is a new thing with the old Papa Bears establishment was trying to open something and having issues so trying it out here with a breakfast thing now. I saw some pancakes on the table next to us I guess I should of stuck with that or the burger is what I would recommend. But I probably wont be back only came here cause it was Sunday and everything else was closed. I usually like to give my feedback in person to the cook or manager instead of out in the public for everyone to see as I like to support local and smaller establishments; however, this visit they werent well lets just say the nice way um receptive to listen to my concerns and wanted to overtalk and give their viewpoints instead. So listened to them and now my turn. :) Below is what I dont recommend- Steak said ribeye but it fell short. It was thin cut and overcooked. It did have a good seasoning flavor. Eggs and bacon were the best on the plate. Extra crispy bacon was really good and scrambled eggs were fluffy. Chips and salsa- chips okay, salsa needed some cilantro and onion in my opinion, it tasted like pasta sauce? Good consistency not too think and not too thin. Tacos- shells overcooked, rice good, charro beans looked too thick. Menudo- not bad more seasoning Biscuits with sausage gravy, probably the better of what we had but still just okay. ( these are pictured cause really the only thing worth documenting as of this visit) These gave food poisoning, two people in my party ate them and both felt terrible the next day. Left hungry and unsatisfied

I was very disappointed with the food served to me this evening. I ordered the fried catfish with1 side of Extra, Extra crispy French fries. The fish was fine but the fries came out cool snd soggy, not crispy as requested. The waiter asked if I would like another order and I said yes. I ate the fish and the fries never came. I told the waiter to just cancel them. The waiter simply said I put it on the order but didn t really seem to care that it was wrong. I also asked if they had chocolate cream pie and he said we have a Chocolate delight. When he brought it out it was cake with a mousse like filling. So very disappointed with it all. For the most part it is a great restaurant. My husband was treated very rudely when he called to make a reservation. He was told they dont take reservations in a very brusque manner. We went anyway. My shrimp were room temperature and the steak was ordered medium well but more on the well side and it still bled all over the plate and was red on the inside. Be prepared....it is a packed, loud restaurant.

Been a while since we been there, appetizer was hot and delivered quickly to our table, i got chicken fried steak, was tender an flavorful, husband got the 8 oz sirloin, said it had a good flavor, but tough, had a hard time cutting it. We waited on refills on our drinks, almost like he had forgotten us, another waitress refilled our glasses for him. Maybe next time service will have improved.

Quality of food has gone to trash Chicken sandwich dry as dirt. Corn had no butter, fries cold and soggy, corn dog burnt, potato wedges not cooked. Manager doesnt do anything when you bring to their attention. Never will go again. Gave them another chance and they blew it. Food

Food is amazing. Service is outstanding. Seth, Alice, and Charlotte are amazing. Have had pretty much everything on the menu and nothing disappoints. I had the Big Nasty Burger today and it was amazing. Be sure to ask for gloves lol. Wife had the Chicken Fried Steak with fried okra and mac and cheese. We are here atleast twice a week. Parking: We always find a spot. Looks alot more pcked than it usually is. Kid-friendliness: Family friendly with a small bar area.

Our experience here was awesome!!!! The female that was our server was down to earth!! The food was amazing! We read the reviews before we went so we ordered the 1/2 chicken fried steak and it was still HUGE!!! The rib eye was sooooo good and tender!!!! Definitely will drive back to Waco again!!!!

Went here for Mother s Day , what disappointed me was the seater had sat us by the bar with tall chairs then moved us by the bathrooms when other booths were available my mother is vertically challenged , the meat on the ribs meat was extremely tough along with the pork chops , and the salt shakers had rust on the brim of the shakers.

I have visited this establishment twice now; in April and May. On my last visit, I tried the beef nachos. The dish was very unappetizing, to say the least. The beef was decent, but I didnt find any cheese on the nachos. What? The chips were, at best, average. Also, I cant even tell you what I order on my April visit. Thats how memorable it was. Yes, the service was excellent on both occasions. However, there will not be a third visit for me as this restaurant is highly overrated. Period.

I was pleasantly surprised... I had heard this place was a bit pricey but, for a steak restaurant, they were really affordable. The steak tasted beautiful!! We also had the smothered chicken on a bed of rice which was delicious! They had great drinks too! Try the June Bug!!! The ONLY thing I was disappointed (if that) in, was that there was no salad option that I saw and no buttery yeast rolls. My disappointment was more of a I want to try everything issue--- so that really doesnt count! Ha... Ill be back for sure.

Not very impressed. Queso tasted like gravy. Gravy had no favor at all. Steaks had no favoring, just meat. Got 2 steaks mixed up on the plates. One rarer, one overcooked. Didn t complain. Waiter didn t come bad to check on us.
