A must-stop every time Im in Waco. After a couple tasting flights I took home a bottle of the rye and always enjoyed it. I came back next time to have another tasting and get another bottle. This is the best whiskey Ive found in Texas. The distillery has whiskey tastings, a full bar of cocktails made from their spirits, and beers as well. Theres also a gift shop of their glasses, branded shirts , hats, and a few books. They have tours, a decent size parking lot and, across the road, a couple restaurants and a cookie shop.

Excellent overall experience incorporating a lot of history and heritage. Very immersive and informative, covering everything from the history of the company, to basic facts about whiskey, to the entire process of distilling from grain to bottle. All finished off with a tasting.

Had a good experience here. We tried to taste everything they offered for whiskey. There were a couple of things we really enjoyed. There is a lot of merch and several whiskeys we did not know existed. They had 4 beers on tap. We will have to come back and try more items.

We really enjoyed our visit to Balcones. Our tour guide was Eric and he was very knowledgeable and funny, making our tour very educational and memorable. We sat at the bar after our tour and had two great bar tenders. Theron and Nick were both awesome and our drinks were amazing! We cant wait to go back for another tour and drinks!

I actually went in for the beer. I kept hearing about an amazing barrel aged stout they make. Unfortunately it is seasonal, so it was not on tap. There are four taps for the beer. I ordered the IPA. Hands down one of the best IPAs I have tried and definitely the best in town. Crisp and bright. So good. I also tried their lighter beer that was a mix of pilsner and lager, which I really liked. A really good brewer working here.

Definitely cannot rate this place any higher!! I love Balcones. I am definitely always trying to find an excuse to go drink some Balcones. From their events in the summer like Summer Surf Fest or Summer of Rum. The bartender Laura is so helpful and knows so much about all their drinks and the process of how they are made. Eric is super helpful and friendly as well! Go on a date here for sure!

Ive been to Balcones multiple times as they are my favorite whiskey to date. I grew interested in Texas Whiskey a few years ago when I was given a sample of Balcones and told about the Texas Whiskey Trail. Every time I visit this distillery, they have fantastic cocktails that are creative and fun. The staff is always welcoming and appreciates the business whether your first visit or 100th. Balcones is a pioneer of Texas Whiskey along with defining what American Single Malt is all about. If you have not tried Balcones yet, give it a whirl - you will be impressed. I highly recommend their Brimstone and 1 single malt to start out - they are quite delicious and represent what Balcones is all about.

My wife and I made the trip down to Waco for our 15th anniversary, not knowing Balcones just celebrated their own 15th not long ago... We have started touring different distilleries on the Texas Whiskey Trail, but Id been a bit intimidated by Balcones reputation for single malts based on my flavor preferences. So I go in thinking Ill have some fun learning a bit more about the overall process and if I find one or two I like its a win... Only to fall for their tricks and enjoy every single thing I tasted. Ended up leaving with a few bottles, one of which was the Brimstone I had always seen but assumed I wouldnt care for. Great tour, great tasting room, great staff... I just wish Id visited sooner.

Have been several times but finally decided to review after attending the 15th Anniversary event. Full disclosure, I received my VIP passes gratis as part of a separate Bourbon group. However I would have gladly purchased with my own Nickel. The weather was threatening and it rained much of the early afternoon. It was still raining lightly on and off at 3:30 when we arrived. I didn t have high expectations for a large primarily outdoor event. To my pleasant surprise we were greeted with a pair of cheerful ladies who got us situated and gushed over my hound. The rain didn t seem to put a damper on their sprits. This theme continued as pretty much a constant throughout the afternoon. Even standing in a slow line to buy some of the special offerings all the employees were cheerful and made the wait less tedious. The weather eventually broke and staff was busy again keeping tables clear and dry, music rolling, and my dog smothered in treats (Jessica?). The biggest thing that stood out for me was the esprit de corps so to speak. I have been involved coordinating events large and small that relied on paid as well as volunteer support. Moral is key. Once your staff gets demoralized the tone of the event totally tanks for everyone around. I never interacted with anyone who was grumpy, short, or rude to me. Though I m sure they felt that way. Smiles abounded and really made the weather a non factor. Everyone seemed genuinely happy to be there and it showed. Long story long this could have been a disaster. I have seen lesser events go sideways over trivial snags very quickly. I will give a wholehearted 5 Star review for a well run and planned event that took its lumps and came out better for it. Bravo to all the Balcones staff, venders, and volunteers that made for a great time. Look forward to visiting for some of the famed Imperial IPA next month.

Dropped in from Dallas for a tour and it was their 15th anniversary celebration!!! Tickets were $9 and you got to taste whisky s and eat good food!!!(additional fee) live music, it was SOOO MUCH FUN! My best friend and I drove from Puyallup Washington with touring this distillery being one of our main reasons for the trip back in October 2022. Were obviously both big fans of Balcones products and getting to see the process of them being made was really awesome. The tour guide had a great charisma and shared tons of really cool history about Texas whiskey and Balcones in general. At the end of the tour getting to taste a few different products was really great too because it exposed me to a couple products that I hadnt tried yet that I ended up falling in love with. Especially the Texas Rum!!

We took a day trip to Waco and decided to stop in for a taste. We had a fabulous waitress named Laura!! She was extremely helpful and nice! Very knowledgeable about their products! Did a tour of the distillery and it was AWESOME!!! Very hot, but so worth it. I recommend taking the tour. You get to see the entire process of how they make their Whiskey (and rum) from the grinding of the grain all the way to the bottling itself. You also get to try some of their great whiskeys at the end. Overall, great experience and a fun evening activity in Waco

There is ample parking here. Though theres not a huge amount of seating, Ive never had to wait around. My wife and I enjoy it here, because its a nice quiet place for a drink. The picture is of the Field of Dreams, and it was really good. I also had a Sazerac, but I didnt care for it much. It was harsher than any Ive had before.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Balcones Got there a little early for our tour, so we had cocktails and beers (they have four beers on tap that they make on site). The bar is really cute. The tour was very informative. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and passionate about the process. Just a heads up that it is very hot as part of the tour is outdoors and another great part of it is in an in air-conditioned building. It s good to know this ahead of time.

Really enjoyed touring the distillery! It was hot, but worth it. Leaned a lot from our tour guide, Christian. It was fun to see the inner workings of a larger distillery than Ive visited before. Tasting room was great. It was a smaller space, and was a little crowded. Probably because our tour had just ended, and another was about to begin. Had the Texas Dove from their featured cocktail menu. Was really good. Bought a bottle, and a branded glencairn glass. Wish I had remembered to buy a hat. Its worth the trip. I would love to take my wife, or go for a guys weekend sometime. If you love whiskey then youll enjoy Balcones.

The server helped with picking options for my flight while I waited for my husband who did the tour. (Dogs are allowed indoors but - sensibly - not on the tour.) After trying my flight selections and having a French 95 cocktail, I understood why theyd create cocktails with some and not with others. For example, the baby blue is used in some of the cocktails, but I probably wouldnt pick it straight, with a splash of water, or over ice. However, the lineage and single barrel single malt were good on their own. Bonus: their stools have backs! Comfiest ones Ive sat in outside of my own home.

The spirits are delicious and the cocktails at the bar are fantastic. We ordered the Without a Doubt and Chocolate Old Fashioned then shared an Egg Nog from the winter menu. The cocktails werent too sweet and really let the spirits shine. The service was wonderful and everyone was so absolutely nice and friendly. Now the tour - Do it! It was truly wonderful and worth the money and time! Chris was not only delightful but he was patient and welcomed all questions. I will say that we were lucky to have just us on the tour - highly recommend to go during the week for the 4pm since it seemed like there were less folks available to get there at the time. The tour includes a walk-thru of the distilling process from front to back then ends with a tasting of 4 spirits. He explained thoroughly the differences between each spirit and the process for each. Overall, highly recommend the full experience!

Absolutely the best distillery experience ever. My wife and I got to try almost all their flavors. They even have cocktails and in-house beer. Everyone there is super friendly and knowledgeable about their craft. It had the atmosphere of a local friendly bar but with upscale cleanliness of a high end bar. Family friendly and just great. The tour was so worth it, ask for Chris. There was nothing that he wasn t prepared to answer and you can joke with him. Bring your wallet because it s gonna be hard to leave without a bottle or two.

Balcones is a very unique distillery and they a shacking up the whiskey space. There process and ingredients are really cool making not just a bourbon but American single malt. Chris was our tour guide and he is proud of Balcones and it shows in his passion. Learned a lot on the tour and had a great tasting. Located in the heart of downtown Waco with parking! They even brew a few beers! Cool spot to hangout in the bar area and plenty of gifts to buy in their shop. First things first! You definitely want to take the tour. Sadly, we moved around so much we didn t get there in enough time to enjoy that experience. Distillery tours always give such amazing insight and educational information on the eco-system to keep things balanced. I was on a specific journey this day because of The Pint Exchange from Houston Texas. They ve been working with Balcones to do a barrel aged Imperial Stout. This was a collaboration I was excited to try and bring back from extra crowler. This stout comes in at a big body 14.7%. It s delicate and lush creamy mouth feel of warm coffee and boozy !! Just my type of party. I had no idea that made beer as well as liquor on site. A friend had the cold IPA (Lucid) 6.8% and a cocktails. I believe the Texas Dove. It s a nice space. Being height deprived I m not fond of the high stools but they also had lower seating. Since we had a group we needed that space. The staff was pleasant and handled the surge of customers well right before closing. I gotta go back to sample more of Balcones.

Wonderful staff nice vibes great whiskey only suggestions are- if touring in the summer advise it will be terribly hot on the tour it s so hot you can t concentrate on the tour. No fans or anything just melting hot. And the person is giving you a lot of info while you are over heating. Secondly- the person is hard to hear so a little mic from Amazon for $30 would make sure everyone could hear the speaker. And last the tasting was lovely but as a wine consultant it would be nice to teach the guests the proper way to enjoy the tasting experience the reason why we swirl or add water, how to smell with the mouth open and let the whiskey graze the lip first to advise the mouth of the whiskey coming for a more optimal experience. Plus the bottles have all these tasting notes on them like pear and Carmel but these notes aren t spoken to during the tasting it s self. I think these adjustments would really elevate this experience. I my self am a Christian and try to live life best I can to the Bible s direction so it was a shock to be told after purchasing tickets on line and coming with my friends that this place was haunted at that point we wanted to leave but had driven 2 hours to come so we stayed against our better judgement. Maybe if possible consider that you may have a mixed audience with different standards they live by and that some would be very out off by that detail. Don t mean to over advise but these are the only concerns and otherwise we absolutely loved the experience and our tour guide Erin.

Been coming to Balcones for several years at this point. Every time, whether it is for a special event like their 10th Anniversary, a tour or a special release - each time is always a extremely enjoyable experience. My wife and I have had numerous amazing interactions with the staff and distillery employees. The whiskey and beer has also always been enjoyable and the best in Texas. If youre single, a couple or have a family trip planned - include Balcones on your must visit list. You wont be disappointed.

Such a happy accident walking into this tasting room. Do yourself a favor and try something off the floral-infused gin section of the menu. The Genever sour was a 10/10 for me. The whiskey sour was also tops. There s a large list of unique spirits. They make more than just whiskey here, and it s worthwhile to ask about it! There is also a good amount of merchandise if that s your thing, and you can order quality food next door at Milo from the table. (Crispy Brussels go well with drinks!) The atmosphere was industrial but warm, and I really loved it. Great service from very knowledgeable staff. I ll definitely return for my next trip to Waco.

Upon entering the distillery there was a person behind the greeting desk that ignored us as we entered. A woman with curly half blonde hair ignored us as we walked past into the tasting room. The tap room is small and cozy. There are flights for tasting which was great. The rye was by far one the best ryes I ve tried. The service was great and enjoyed talking about the different spirits. They have a small gift shop in the taproom where you can purchase what you tasted! Plenty of parking and easy to get to.

Went for a quick trip to try out the distillery and had ordered the tour for four of us. Andrew was the funniest most entertaining tour guide I ve had, even audio issues occurred we still enjoyed a laugh when you off the production floor. The tasting room was amazing, and clean and best education of their product. They made a slight mistake while ringing up items after the tour, but was promptly refunded and never once had an issue during that process. Overall great people, great product, and great great atmosphere. PS great to finally find out what the logo stands for, so if you don t already know. I recommend taking a tour and get to know a great company who cares for their guests!

Traveling from Pennsylvania to S. Padre Island I went out of my way to visit Waco so I could visit the distillery. I had read good things about their spirits and wanted to try their bourbon. I wasnt sure if I would be able to find it on SPI or how much it would cost in a tourist town so I purchased a bottle for $42 at the distillery. Much to my surprise I later saw it on SPI for $32. I would have thought the place where its made would be the cheapest place to buy it. Glad I drove three hours out of my way.

This distillery has one of Texas finest whiskey and we drove from Oklahoma City with the goal of doing their tour and potentially purchase some special edition whiskey. If you are a whiskey drinker, you have to put the Balcones tour on your to do list. I already loved their shirts, going to visit them made spending the extra buck on them all the easier. All of the stuff were so kind and personable that my friends and I felt right at home. It helped monumentally that the tour guide started to take everything less seriously, joke around, and get more talkative about stuff other than the distillery. 100% plan on coming back later this year for another tour once its cooled down.

I absolutely love this distillery! Im from Waco originally but currently live in Colorado. Balcones is one of my must visit places whenever I come down to visit family. They always have something new to try an never stray from their staple products. I always bring several bottles back to Colorado with me to share with my friends and they always love it! BD is dope! Great value whiskey with incredible craft! You got to try the Rumble! The first taste took me back to my childhood running through a field of wild flowers and Texas grass. Despite having the taste room inside a tent on the parking lot (due to Covid), the place was nicely set up and inviting. You can have a flight or single pirs of their different whiskeys, including two seasonals, they also have cocktails, that look pretty yummy, and even their own beers (which I didnt know they brewed their own). Got there at 12:30pm or so, a little early, would definitely come back on another road trip and more time.
