I recently visited Jake s Texas Teahouse and tried a few of their offerings. The atmosphere is really charming, and the service was excellent friendly and attentive throughout our meal. As for the food, I had the chicken fried steak with fries and fried okra. While the sides were tasty, the chicken fried steak wasn t quite my favorite. I felt the gravy could use a little more flavor to complement the dish. On the bright side, I also had the Cadillac Melt with a Caesar salad, and it was pretty good! However, a touch of salt and pepper would have made it even better. The decor is cozy and nostalgic, filled with classic touches that create a welcoming, throwback vibe. It s a great spot for families with kids and anyone who enjoys taking in some old-school charm while they dine. Overall, the dining experience was enjoyable thanks to the warm service and great atmosphere. I m sure with a few small tweaks to the seasoning, this place will be even better!

Its been a few weeks since we visited. But no one greeted us upon entering, several young girls looked at us, not one smile. I dont care if youre a dishwasher, waitress or hostess -- you can always smile and say hello. The atmosphere is amazing and our waitress was new that same day we went and she was nice and friendly. The food was good overall but the black-eyed peas seemed dumped from a can.....not good at all. There was another veggie that was flavorless as well. But it was overall good. Id definitely go back.

Never go there on a Sunday! First off, it was so hot in the restaurant that I got nauseous and almost threw up in the bathroom. Secondly, we were a group of 8, so we had to wait 20 minutes (which I can understand), however, instead of sitting us at the large table, they split us into 2 tables back to back so we couldnt talk to the rest of the people in our group. It took 20 minutes before the waitress came and took our drink order, then another 20 before she came and took our food order. We then waited an hour for our food, which was really disappointing. *side note - I do not eat a lot of food and was not hungry because I was nauseous from the heat and they would not let me order off the childs menu, which I have been able do to at this restaurant before** The caesar salad was given to us with ranch, not caesar dressing. And we were uninformed the food would come out family style - and our waitress did not bring us plates to serve the sides on, we had to ask another waitress for them. Finally, when we were finished eating, we were informed we were not allowed to take our sides home because people were asking for free refills - just dont offer free refills then.... Very disappointed that we had to fight to take home food that we paid for. Food was not worth the price that we paid and waitress seemed to not know what she was doing.

A bit of a wait but so well worth it. Our server told us they were short staffed but indeed did her absolute best and made sure we never needed to top our drinks off, made sure our meals were to our liking and did it all with a bright sincere and pleasant smile. Well enjoy this restaurant, the food, the fabulous eye candy set up and the incredible dessert. Highly recommended if you travel through Waco. You won t be disappointed.

Found this place on trip advisor and it s a NO for us! I love the atmosphere BUT service was horrible. We sat for 15 minutes before being greeted and taking an order. Following this they were out of fried chicken and had we known this we would not have been seated and would have went somewhere else. We settled on the chicken fried steak and it completely fell apart which leads me to believe it was not make properly AND it was way to dry. The sides had zero flavoring and just overall disappointed. Our server only came to check on us 2 times and after the food drop off we were ghosted. Had she checked on us and she would have expressed our dissatisfaction - Instead we paid our full bill and won t be back.

Ive visited a few local restaurants in Waco, and all of them were really good, I went here for lunch to see if I could keep up that streak, and this restaurant surely didnt break it. Food Me and my parents got rather basic meals, but even then, they were all really good. I recommend trying their more interesting foods though, Im sure those are even better. I got the BLT, my mom got the regular burger, and my dad got a chicken sandwich, all came with a side of fries, for my meal I added some watermelon along with my side of fries as well. Everything tasted really fresh and was packed with flavor. The buns were toasted perfectly along with the meat, and the mayo and condiments were really good as well. My watermelon was pretty good too, I was expecting an average watermelon, but the freshness and the nice balance of sweetness and flavor made it a little extra special. The only thing I didnt enjoy as much were the fries. They were a little mushy but had a home style taste. I appreciated that it wasnt loaded with salt too, but I wouldve liked more seasoning on it. Its not enough to bring it down a star because I enjoyed it overall, including the meals. Definitely recommend the food. Service The waiters were nice and consistently checked up on us to see how we liked the food or if we needed anything else. It wasnt anything special, but it was great overall. The food came out pretty quickly, and we spent about 30 minutes in the restaurant, great service overall and there werent any major problems Atmosphere I think an atmosphere deserves five stars when its not just good, but great, and special in a way. This place had so much old fashioned detail and there was a lot to look at while you sat down. Something else I thought was neat was that there were notes inside the crevices in the brick wall of the restaurant. They each had a message inside to read and was something I distracted myself with while I waited for my food. Another cool detail was that the food was served in hubcaps, you cant tell with my pictures, since it was covered in food and was shown on the bottom of the plate. Overall, really awesome atmosphere and it wasnt too cramped either. I was really satisfied with this place overall. The atmosphere and the food is what made this place stand out among the rest. I wanted to try their pies but ended up being too full. Thats something else this place is known for apparently. Props to the owner for a great restaurant!

Food was good, I got the chicken fried steak needed a bit more seasoning, Mac and Cheese was ok super creamy but lacking in the flavor department and the mashed potatoes they were ok as well. The jalapeño gravy is nothing to right home about but was good. My Dad got the beef tips and rice and he said it was good but also lacked seasoning. He also said the black eyed peas were amazing! Both got iced tea, was good a bit bitter. The waitress was amazing. The atmosphere was fantastic. Would definitely go back again and try some different things. Overall a great experience. Just wish the food had a little more punch.

JTTH has well earned the 5-star rating. Ahead of the visit to the restaurant I looked at reviews in photos. Those did no justice to the actual experience when we arrived. The owner and staff were very accommodating of our large party and service was very good. Our group was there on a ride from DFW metro so we were extremely hungry and we didn t care much about a wait, we were well into our convos, but that when the food did come out, it was fresh and delicious. We tried a bit of everything. The quiche, a sandwich with sweet potato fries, a very fresh salad and desserts. We really appreciate the accommodations while no reservations are required, the place was large enough to accommodate our group of riders. This place is absolutely interesting and cool on the inside. To the staff and owner - Thank you all for a great experience and food.

Classic American diner fare with a personal touch. We stopped into Jakes for a late lunch with family. From the outside, its very non-assuming. That is aside from the giant red Pegasus normally spotted in the Dallas skyline. Inside is another world. Americana road signs and car culture at its finest! Whats better was we were hosted by Jake, the man himself. Yes, the restaurants namesake is very much present and accounted for and an absolute delight. The servers were all friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was nostalgic yet comfortable. Old cars are part of the decor and ambiance. We ordered a variety of items off the menu. No complaints, and the food was great. My rating is based on going to Jakes 1 time on a Sunday. There is a different menu for Sundays vs the other days of the week so take this for what it is. The Sunday menu is basically take it or leave it.... No options on salad dressing, no appetizers, no choice on sides. You choose your entrée & you take what else they give you. It was southern sides that were just average in taste. Not bad but not at the level of the atmosphere (which was excellent). The service we had was below par & it took us almost 1 hour and 45 minutes to finish our meal. This included about 25 minutes of waiting for our check that our waitress didnt even bring us. We had to get the hostess to get our check for us. I will say it seemed others were getting better service but our specific experience was below acceptable. Its most likely a completely different experience the rest of the week but I would suggest finding another Sunday lunch place. Again this is a 1 time experience on a Sunday (not regular menu). Kid-friendliness: Very kid friendly!

It was very uncomfortable at first and because we were looking to try something new in Waco we took a chance we sat down and immediately received serviced, water was HORRIBLE! It was worst than tap faucet water. NO EXAGGERATION I ordered a bacon cheeseburger bottom bread was soggy, cheese was melted but meat was cold, my okra was greesy and meat was super dry and unseasoned. The atmosphere TO ME is giving 1900 s/urban. I would not try this place again. Food was a 2/10, service was a 4/10(not friendly or welcoming) atmosphere 1/10(it s urban but I get the vibes as back in the days segregation)

We tried to eat here for lunch today. When we walked in the man just stared at us, and after a minute or two asked how many. We told him 5 (with a high chair) he scribbled something down on a piece of paper and stared off into space once more. I waited a minute and asked him how long the wait was, Maybe 20min was his response. We walked outside to wait. About 20min later we walked inside because my 2 year old was getting too hot, and proceeded to wait our turn. Not 1 but TWO parties came in during this time and were sat immediately. A party of two and a party of 4. Nothing was said to us, and we werent acknowledged. We noticed an empty booth and asked if we could be sat there. We were told no because it was a fire hazard. Thats fine, we understand that, but the place is mostly booths from what I can see. My two year old was starting to act up because he was tired and hungry. So, I told the guy to just take our name off the list since it didnt seem like they could accommodate a party with a high chair. We were leaving and a girl chimed in sarcastically yall come back and see us. I would have like to try this place, but after this incident and not being able to accommodate a high chair we wont be returning.

Driving through we came across this restaurant and fell in love with the atmosphere.Decided to stop and eat lunch on the way to Dallas. Wasnt aware they had a limited menu on Sunday. Ordered the catfish. Zero seasoning..My coworkers ordered Fried pork chops and had to send them back because they were super dry. Our waitress was super friendly and apologic even took an order off our bill.

Service was spot on. Only suggestion I have is they need to learn to fry the fries so they are crispy. Soggy fries dont cut it. Great options on dessert. Kid-friendliness: Options for kids especially if they are into cars.

First time to Jakes on May 16th (live in San Antonio). Theres NO WAY that ANYTHING you order doesnt rate 5 stars! What a meal! The chicken-fried steak, chicken-fried chicken and chicken sandwich and all the sides were AWESOME. Topped that off with the most delicious and perfect banana pudding ever. Prices are reasonable and the professional and friendly service was top shelf (thanks, Cassia). The restaurant is totally TEXAS with an at home atmosphere. Well definitely be back as soon as possible but dont delay your own trip there.

Weve visited a couple of times now and the food is very good. This time, we had a patty melt and chicken fried steak. Both were very good. Last time we had meatloaf and a chicken fried steak...again very good. The atmosphere is interesting with all the car stuff. Parking can be a nightmare though.

Wonderful 50 s ambiance! Did not mind the wait at all because of so much memorabilia to see. Cindy, our server, was very friendly and helpful, getting us the customization of menu items with a smile. Call me old-fashioned, but I was really happy to see long teaspoons in my tea. The veggie quesadilla was very satisfying. Oh! Look for license plate from 1924!

Can t say enough about this place. Staff was super friendly. Our waitress Cindy was awesome!!! We ordered the Sunday special of fried chicken with sides of mashed potatoes, creamed corn, grab beans, purple hull peas, cornbread and rolls. (So much food for a great price) sides are served family style. It was my birthday so they have me a piece of pie. Lemon and it was scrumptious. Highly recommend this fun restaurant.

Wow! Nice surprise. Looking for a change of pace from our usual haunts. We found it here. I usually find roasted chicken breast in restaurants overcooked and dry. This was very good and moist. Veggies were exceptional as well. We couldnt have deserts due to diet but the temptation was overwhelming. Deserts looked gorgeous. 1950s atmosphere really cute and nostalgic. Highly recommend.

We enjoyed this place. Our server was cash and she was awesome. She was very attentive and knowledgeable in all the dishes. One of us ordered the quiche and she got fruit with it. I expected a few bites but a whole fruit salad arrived. The quiche was awesome. I got the turkey Reuben and that was fantastic! Wholesome place. The menu pic I attached is for their Sunday family style. We will most definitely go back to try!

Jake s Texas Tea House is a fresh and enjoyable American dining spot with a unique gas station theme and lovely oldies music. Its also a great location resting on the active Austin Ave. The service could use some more people, and the wait for your food gets terribly long during busy hours. The servers are helpful and work hard to ensure you get quality food. The food itself is plentiful. Also ONLY ON SUNDAYS they offer you a free salad, bread, green beans, mashed potatoes, beans, and mac and cheese with your meal. I got the Pollo Loco and enjoyed it.

A great place for food and vintage signs and cars memorabilia. Great atmosphere. Staff is helpful and friendly. We ate around noon so we had an option to pick a meat and then they bring you sides in a sharable bowl, much like Babes Chicken does. You can also choose to get vegetables only. The menu has something for everyone. Food is delicious and hot. Felt like we were all back at the dinner table at home. Desserts are homemade and delicious, and goes fast. They do serve craft beers in addition to the regular choices of beers. The vintage gas station signs and memorabilia are neat to look at and they do have a great collection. If you prefer, there are places to sit and eat at the counter. Will have to try that next time we go and its the just the two of us. Will definitely go back.

Jakes is my favorite place to eat. I drove two hours (one way) to eat here this past weekend, because I love it that much. The atmosphere, the service, the people, and the food. Everything is great at Jakes. Jake takes time to interact with children, like a grandpa. He checks on customers, brings out food (nothing is beneath him), and teaches his young employees (not just what to do, but also the intangible values and characteristics that make the difference). BTW, Sunday is the only day you can get fried chicken, which I highly recommend (theyre only open 11-2 on Sunday, get there early before they run out!). I highly recommend Jakes! Kid-friendliness: Perfect place to bring kids. Theyll be welcomed and there is even a mechanical police car they can ride.
