This is what every town needs, a home style spot that makes you feel like you are family. Passing through for work and stopped by for Sum 2 Eat and got Sum Good 2 Eat! Good was good not too over seasoned and fresh. The green, pinto beans and chicken were deliciousness. I didnt see anyone in there who didnt clean their plate. Definitely will come back if in the area again.

You can smell the quality when you walk in. Warm and friendly faces ready to greet you and get you sum to eat. The food was fresh and flavorful and tasted like home, like your favorite aunties cooking. You like soul food, youll love this. Cant beat these prices for a good, real, home cooked, love filled meal. Hands down the friendliest restaurant in Tyler. Everyone greets you with a smile and the place is filled with laughter and good energy. The food is amazing. Everything I ve eaten there has been excellent. The gumbo is fresh and made with great care to turn out as good as it is. Sweet tea and juices made fresh. Fish was fried to perfection. Definitely worth checking out!

From the outside it looks like a shoddy, run down, old repurposed Dairy Queen (cuz thats what it once was), but dont let the first impression stop you from parking and going in. Its every bit as good as my grandmothers cooking, God rest her soul, and thats not something Im willing to throw out there for just anyone. By far, the best home cooking establishment in Tyler, dare I say the State. Thank you for always providing me with a tasty and filling lunch for a reasonable price. Thats something that has become more and more hard to find nowadays.

Some of the best food in Tyler! I got 3 big ol pieces of the tastiest crunchiest fish, macaroni casserole, and greens with a sweet tea for about $13. Everything had a good flavor and seasoned perfectly. Employees are very friendly and welcoming. I will definitely be back.

The meatfloaf was everything. The cabbage and sweet potatoes, beans desserts were giving!!! I rarely eat meatfloaf but y all the staff and owner are so kind. They literally check on every table during your meal even though it s not a service table type of restaurant. They care about the customers and it shows from when you enter to when you leave. It s a nice small, quick eats place. Definitely will be back.

Some of the best food I ve ever had. Stopped in while on a mini-roadtrip and was treated to some delicious chops, collard greens, and gumbo. Service was quick and extremely kind. I went to this place not knowing what to expect. Looking online it looks like a small hole in the wall joint. That is so far from the truth. This is a small quaint place where the atmosphere is awesome, the people are what all restaurants should strive to have their crew emulate, and the FOOD was on point. The Preparation, The Portions and The Price . Try the Poly Pop!! Im a Chef myself and I was very impressed. Go and see for yourself .

This place has the best food, reminiscent of my grandmothers from-scratch homemade dishes. They serve a choice of meat or fish entrees with a variety of veggies on the side, topped off by a cornbread muffin or roll. Its all yummy. The outside doesnt look too great, but dont let that influence your decision. Go in! You wont be disappointed.

Awesome soul food. This was such a treat because its not something I can find in Colorado where I live. The prices were great too -- a main, two sides, two pieces of cornbread and a glass of Kool-aid for $11.50 after tax. The staff were super friendly and welcoming. The only downside I see is that Ill be craving this food for a long time and wont have access to it!

Wish there were more stars. Sum is worth driving up from Dallas for the best home cooked meal. Place doesnt have a lot of looks on the outside but you walk through the door and see nothing but smiles and welcomes. Think about Sunday lunch at your favorite families house. This is as good or better. Small portions put out to choose from so nothing gets old. A load of chicken and pork chops just came out and both were perfect. Add some rice w/gravy and green beans and you are DONE. Place is as sparking as the serving staff. All this for $10...like I say, worth a trip from Dallas. Do yourself a favor and eat here if you are in or near Tyler. The best home cooking in Dallas does not compare to SUM. Cant wait to go back. We got to go and went a few blocks down to the Rose Garden to eat.
