This was our first time here. It is a hidden gem. The egg rolls are the best in town, homemade and huge. If you like homemade egg rolls, you must go here. It is a little out of date on decor but that is where you find the best food. Dont let the outer appearance fool you. The food is quite tasty. We will be back to taste the soup.

Me my father and sister came here. I personal got the garlic chicken wit lo mein. 0/10 it looked like a soup not a plate. Had 2 bites I couldn t finish it. The egg rolls I squeezed and greese came out of them like a fountain. Also un edible. Who ever was cooking on August 29th 2024 should not cook ever. This used to be a decent place it has gone to crap now. Will not be back

Tried someplace new for Chinese. Yes its a hole in the wall, lady at counter very friendly. Strangest food I guess I would say. Jalapeño Rangoon, was a triangle, the taste was amazing, very well cooked, glad I like crunchy. Egg foo young, well......never ever seen like this, over scrambled eggs, then on top chicken, mushroom, onions, not cooked in. Brown sauce was good . Kung pao was good, no complaints. Did not like the rice at all, how do you mess up rice ? Fact that I really did like is they have the real hot mustard , not in a little pkg, I love that stuff! Even the fortune cookie was to stale to eat.

Definite hole in the wall with poorly working A/C and blasting TV. Mainly came to try the egg rolls and came away disappointed. They are big and crispy on the outside, but the inside was cold. There are other egg rolls in town that I prefer. Combo fried rice was somehow off. Smell was weird and overall tasted bland. Ice tea tasted like it had been boiled and had a bitter aftertaste. They kept burning something in the kitchen. The counter worker was very nice and really hustled.

One of the hidden gems of Tyler, Pochs Rice Cafe arguably has the best Chinese food in town. But be WARNED, this place is the definition of a hole in the wall. And I advise ONLY get carry out or to go. The restaurant itself is an eyesore and the menu is massive, with several pictures stapled to the wall that somehow makes these harder to find. But stick to the traditional dishes like combination fried rice or general tso chicken and I think youll be pleased with the result. They also claim to have the best egg rolls in town and I tend to agree as they are big, fluffy, and tasty. In the end, the atmosphere is among the worst Ive ever seen. But if that doesnt scare you off, then I think youll like the result as the three-star rating is based on food taste and consistency alone.

They do have one of the best egg rolls I have had in a while. However there food items lack. Not sure why they have an omelet and list it as egg fu young patties. Sweet and Sour Shrimp is more batter than shrimp, and the sweet and sour chicken us not any better. Fried rice is fair but no flavor. Stir fried beef and chicken is fair. Everytime you visit tables are dirty with previous patrons food with no one coming to clean it up. They seem a bit lax in the customer service arena. Not the best, yet the egg rolls are pretty darn delicious.

Poch s Rice cafe was one of my favorite secrets of Tyler when I was in school. I ate here almost weekly. I had them on speed dial. While the interior and the location is somewhat unusual, it all just adds to the hole-in-the-wall charm. Believe me, the food is great. And I still haven t found a better egg roll!

Place has gone to hell since 2020. It was very good before the. The owners were the previous owners of peking on fifth street. Their recipes were spot on. After covid the dining room was cut in half. The place is dirty. The recipes have no flavor everything is soggy. The other half of diner is a storage area that they have shoved their previous restaurant equipment into and divided with a SHEET. I wont be going back. Do yourself a favor go to peking on front street.

One server was nice, one was rather unenthusiastic. The food was still good, but not as good as it was a year ago. A year ago you ordered and you could see and hear then making the food. It took a minute but it was good. Last visit the food came out almost as soon as we ordered, like it was made and they just put the appropriate sauce on it and sent it out. Like I said it was still good, just didnt seem as good as it did awhile back.

On my forever hunt to find decent Chinese food in the city, this was on our list today. Ordered a mixed fried rice plate and a Mongolian beef plate. Price wise it was a little bit high for the amount of food delivered to us. Also, it is a little bit more pricier than other restaurants we have gone to in the city. Considering this is East Texas, I expect prices to be a little bit higher than in the bigger cities. Mongolian beef. This is what I ordered and sadly it was not that good. Mongolian beef is supposed to be spicy and this dish had absolutely no spice even though I did ask them to make sure it was spicy. For some reason here in East Texas Chinese restaurants seem to make their Mongolian beef sweet. In all my years traveling Ive never had sweet Mongolian beef anywhere but in East Texas. So back to this restaurants Mongolia beef it was lacking in flavor and spice. One positive the beef was tender. Came with a side of what I assumed was fried rice. It definitely wasnt just plain white rice. It had a slight brown color to it and not much flavor. If this is a version of fried rice then they need to find any recipe. Husband got the mixed protein fried rice. He said it was really good but then again he eats anything and everything because he hates to waste food. As for the restaurant. It was really dated. Boots were really worn out and they had a bunch of knick knacks in the corner of the restaurant for sale. Also they had a sheet separating one area from another area. Not sure what was behind that sheet and Im not sure I really wanted to know. As for the staff, lackluster at best. Tried to ask a few questions. Didnt get much of an answer. Being Asian myself I know that restaurant staff members seem to be very quiet and they only interact when you interact with them first. So not sure why the staff couldnt answer simple questions about their food. All in all, I doubt there will be a second visit to this restaurant.

I usually dont leave bad reviews unless I get bad service but this unfortunately is necessary. Ordered the to-go chicken fried rice and 1 egg roll totaled at $11. The egg roll was really big but bland with little to no pork (literally pork spinkles). The chicken fried rice was horrible, it had zero seasoning! Just tasted like grease, I used 2 packets of Soy sauce just to add some sort of flavor but all that did was give me a headache. Ultimately just threw it away (I hate wasting food). Waste of money, either the food was old or they dont know how to season. Sadly I wont be going back.

Unlike a lot of other Chinese-Americanized spots, Poch s food isn t greasy or overly salty. They have a good vegetarian selection, too. Food is made to order and always hot. Staff are friendly and helpful. I get a real family vibe from the place. If you order tofu dishes expect to wait about 15 minutes extra. But worth the wait! Edit: I ve noticed a drop in quality and a significant hike in price recently. I hope they return to their former glory. Gotta remove a star.

One of three in the Tang Dynasty restaurants. Aaron runs Pochs, Eric the brother owns Peking in Marshall and cousin Ricky owns Peking in Nacogdoches. Their quality and portion sizes are awesome. They really do have the BEST EGG ROLLS in town. They are home-made and home rolled. Very flavorful. Soups are very good and entrees have enough for 2 meals. They also have a daily special that is well worth the money. Rice is top notch. So stop in to any of the three. If you have dietary needs let them know. They make everything fresh when ordered so you will be taken care of.

Update 9/13/22 (old review below).. I havent been here for a while but man has this place gone down hill in so many ways. They used to have random newish things for sale inside. now it looks like the salvation army with junk everywhere. Theres like 4 lights on inside its dark and looks like a sketchy garage sale. The food used to be fresh. Fresh produce now its freezer bag veggies (peas and those cubed carrots) you can taste the freezer burn. The sauce wasnt even Walmart brand decent. Rice tasted old and dirty, you know that weird mildew kinda tatse. And I was hoping at least for that giant delicious egg roll that theyre famous for to be good I saved it for last. It was just flooded with oil no meat just mush cabbage and carrots and dripping oil. Not a single redeeming quality left here. I dont know what happened but they need to go back to their roots and bring back what made them good starting with getting rid of the thrift shop inside. Such a shame. Good food nice and fresh and a great price too.. oh and definitely the best egg rolls in town.. little burritos .. get one youll see what I mean lol theyre huge! and so tasty! Daily special is a great deal, and changes daily unlike other places which have the same special all week or longer. Also every dish tastes different again unlike other places near by which all taste and look the same just the vegetables change. Only tip if you dont ask for steamed rice youll get fried rice by default (I wish they would ask because I always forget to mention it).

Order was ready when I got there. Counter help was fast but didnt seem like she wanted to be there. Was surprised to see people eating inside for the first time in over 2 years and asked when did that start up again and she seemed like I shouldve known that. Dont know where the usual people were that were there but again, you dont have to be short with customers for no reason.

Absokutely the worst Chinese food I have ever had in Tyler or in Texas, and that is saying a lot. I had spicy Chicken, which was ruined by mildly spicy sauce, peas and carrots everywhere. Nowhere in China do they cook like this! The parboiled rice was a sad shade of beige, appropriate to the quality of this so-called food. I will never set foot in here again. Who gives this place four or five stars? Either delusional or astroturfers!

I used to go here a lot back when it was basil Thai cafe. That was good. I didn t eat there so I can t speak for food quality but there was lots of clutter when I walked in. No one greeted me and the girl behind the counter seemed annoyed that I was there. I promptly left.

Stopped in because I was craving some fried rice and Pochs delivered the goods! I opted for the pork fried rice (chicken and beef available) and was treated to a very generous to-go plate. The meal itself was nice and hot, freshly cooked and full of flavor. Since it was a cold day I topped it off with a cup of delicious wanton soup. Fantastic place. Oh.. and they have much more than just rice. If as much attention was given to the dining area as is given to the food they would get 5 stars for sure

I happened upon Pochs, across from my doctors office, craving chicken fried rice. This review is based on to go only. The rice was fresh & delicious. The man behind the counter very polite, and fast. I will be back when in Tyler.

After talking with my roommate about places to eat in Tyler we looked up Chinese restaurants in Tyler Texas. After seeing this is the top result we knew we had to go here, after walking in we knew the food would be good ;) We were pleasantly surprised by the quality tastiness and just overall experience we had in this restaurant. We will definitely be coming back!

I recommend take out due to half the restaurant closed off with furniture tag for sale. Definitely not a place to enjoy your atmosphere while having dinner. However the meal tasted just fine.

Ive known about this place for a while. I know its locally owned (and sourced when possible). I know the service is friendly and fast and the prices on the menu are very reasonable. And I thought I knew the food was good. Today, though, I had one of their egg rolls. It is amazing. You owe it to yourself to stop what youre doing and go get one to try for yourself. You wont be disappointed with the bacon fried rice or the Hunan beef, but get an egg roll. Or a dozen. Youll be happy you did.

A year or so ago I would have given 5 stars hands downs however; I dont know if covid restrictions it what happened but the service was awful multiple orders were wrong AND the food was subpar. I wont complain about a messed up order if the food is still good, but that is simply not the case. Its a shame I hope they pull through whatever is going on.

For a place called rice cafe, the rice was very bland and disappointing. Would have got the lo mein, but it was $3 up-charge. The sesame chicken had good flavor, but some pieces were pretty tough. Staff was nice and food was decent price, but would rather go to a different place.
