The Diner Tyler

About the Company

rating: 4.6

Ahhhhh, the smell of coffee brewing and the sounds of a busy kitchen. That is exactly what you'll get at "The Diner" located in Tyler Texas. We differ from most restaurants in that we have chosen to focus on breakfast, but we serve meals for lunch too! With a large diverse menu, The Diner can easily satisfy any taste bud at any time of the day! In an area filled with chain restaurants and fast food, The Diner's independently-owned and operated restaurant gives you the personal service, quality and attention that is often lacking in those other places. Stop in for that cup of hot coffee and see for yourself! :)

Sorry, but the gravy was just way too sweet to be gravy for the biscuits and gravy. The vegetable omellete had too many mushrooms, which dominated the dish. But most unfortunate was that no one came around to offer a refill for my coffee. At 7 a.m. on a Monday morning, that just doesnt work. Staff seemed friendly, though. Not sure how this restaurant got so many high ratings.

First time here ~ Katie, our waitress & Amanda, the manager were both very friendly. There was a little wait for our table which seemed weird because it really wasn t busy. We ordered our food & it took quite a while to get it ~ at least 30 minutes or more. The green tomatoes were so yummy!! The chopped steak was good too but the gravy was SO salty. The green beans didn t have a lot of flavor. The sweet tea was really good too ~ a TX must! Parking it a little tight to get into; We would probably go back but drinks make sure we could have a long lunch.

Coffee was cold and terrible, tortilla soup came out as a paste not a soup. they didnt give me enough dressing for the Caesar salad. asked Waitress for a to go box. She brings me one big giant one knowing Im gonna need two separate bowl containers. I had to go get Waitress to ask for my ticket. Found her in a booth eating. It took 20 minutes for Waitress to even take my, order there most the time waiting very disappointed in my visit today. Will tell family members about my experience here today.

Stopped by for a take out order as Im helping a senior neighbor who is hospitalized and its a 54 mile round trip from home to Tyler. On a friends recommendation I tried it out for breakfast. OMGravy amazing! From the service on the order and suggestions, first time, to the speed of order, the food, perfect on each item. I should mention that I owned a diner for 40 years and I could not have done better, and rarely am I impressed but I truly am! Thanks to The Diner and staff for making my day and breakfast a little brighter!!! Go try them out!!!

Wow, this place has seriously gone downhill. I used to eat here all the time, and was so disappointed when I came back for a visit. They just leave the tables dirty until someone comes in and wants to be seated. It wasn t busy either. Maybe 6 tables being served. After people left, the tables just stayed dirty. Gross to look at really. Surrounded by dirty tables. The booth we were at the seats were torn and the table was sticky. The waiter was nice and attentive. The food was fine, but I kept wondering how clean the kitchen was. Oh, and the bacon was $2 a piece. Plain old bacon. Nothing special. Then my ticket stuck to the table when I signed it. I won t be back and can no longer recommend it. Has to be cleaner, better breakfast/brunch options in Tyler than this.

This place should be made an official landmark of the city of Tyler for its Texas-shaped waffles alone. There arent many places in the world where you can get Chicken Fried Steaks, Shrimp Tacos and Queso Fries at 6:00am in the morning, but this is one of them. The Diner boosts a beefy, inventive menu featuring all the breakfast classics and twists on them that help create good variety. Our latest favorite is their Chicken Fried Steak Breakfast Bowls, although they may be just a limited time thing. While their menu doesnt provide much value price-wise, the quality of the food and the availability to order the entire menu at anytime makes this a place everyone should try., especially if you are hankering dinner items early in the morning. Higher-end prices and the fact they arent open past 2:00pm limits them to a four-star review for me, as I often find myself wishing they were a dinner option.

Ive been to many places across United States and Im usually very fair on my opinion, but this time I have to say I was extremely disappointed in the food. He was overcooked and dry. The food (hamburger steak )some how came out warm instead of hot for it being overcooked. Gravy felt like it was from the can. But to make up for My disappointment they did offer me something else. I made an order for a texas waffle with an extra waffle like I usually do and as usual on every order I make they didn t make the other waffle no biggy, except on this occasion they charged an extra $10 for a WAFFLE making a total of over $30 for 2 WAFFLES. As I was leaving I asked her if she told the manager and she said she did. The manager didnt have the integrity to get his/her lazy behind up and come out and apologize on behalf of the Diner or owner. I will never return and will tell all I meet in any other local restaurants I may be in and share the quality of the mold and how their management could not take the time to appologize for the unbelievable poor quality to a customer

I know, by above 4-star individual ranking why a 3-star total? read below the food review. the food was really good. they evidently have a cook that understands how to make scrambled eggs with cheese that is moist. the hash browns were cooked just like Mama used to make. My pancakes were light and moist. they bring out warm syrup with the pancakes, which was one of the best tasting syrups I have had in a long time. I should have asked the brand. my wife had an omelet which was cooked really well. good timing on removing from grill. because of the French toast, I ended up with half the omelet, which I did not mind at all. there was a really good amount of meat and vegetables in the omelet. the French toast according to my wife, was good as well. she ended up leaving slices of the three. the waitress was certainly an interesting young lady. when you speak to her she knows all of the right words to say but has none of the enthusiasm (I knew of no other word) youd expect. How are you? I ask. awesome is what she said but her expression and tone reminded me of Ben Stein playing the teacher in Ferris Buellers Day Off, who kept calling out Bueller, Bueller. she was also dead-pan with perfect and wonderful. One thing that was a real bummer was watching another waitress with a pony tail grab, pull on it, and then fling it up in the air while she was talking to some seated regulars. she did this three times! Restaurant = dont touch or play with hair in the middle of the restaurant! how is you breakfast? what I took off stars... Cost/overcharged. My wife and I went for breakfast the other day, and our breakfast with tip ended up at $54. part of the reason is I did not dispute the check, which I should have done. the errors were the addition of 2 items in my wifes omelet, which she did not order that added 3.50 to the check. my wife did order a side of French toast and the girl brought her six slices, which she was charged a complete French toast breakfast, three slices of toast which rand 9.99. all she wanted was a side, not the full breakfast. once again, I did not dispute anything and even paid a tip on the extra costs as well. My lower back was really hurting, and I had no desire to bring up anything at this point. I just wanted to get out and get home. I mean, I was at an 8of10 by now. I just made the executive decision to pay it. again, the stars were removed as we were overcharged in the first place.

Got on the waitlist at 10:22am. We were waiting in the car because there were 16 parties ahead of us. The waitlist seemed to be stuck at 4. After seeing 6+ parties go in and multiple come out, we finally went inside the restaurant. The manager (i assume) is walking around with the ipad. Never acknowledged us. After about 2 more parties were called, our number in line was still at 4. I go up and ask him if we were still on the waitlist (looking at the ipad), we are #1 on their side. He says Oh I wasn t aware that you were here. You have to come check in here after getting on the waitlist (Does not mention this when you check in online). He assured us that we would be next. He proceeded to call 3 more parties (same size as ours). So we left. 1st time going so we won t be back.

Dined for the first time here. Chose it for the ratings...huge disappointment. A waste of hard earned money. Ordered a BLT with fries and East TX eggs Benedict with home fries and a side of pancakes. The BLT had slim pickings of bacon, thin boring toast, a slice of tomato on each half and a sad lettuce leaf. Not even any mayo or other dressing. The fries had that gross coating on them that most restaurants seem to like to serve for some reason. Probably because they hide any lack of effort of making good food. The poached eggs had solid yolks, but the gravy was ok. The home fries were just some deep fried, chopped up potatoes. Like stubby french frie pieces. The pancakes were the only good food item. A waste of hard earned money.

Been quite a few times and love the food. Especially breakfast! This time, I brought my mom and niece. We had a range of foods, and everyone enjoyed their plates. The waitress was so busy, but she was very attentive and cheerful every time she came to see us. Kid-friendliness: Plenty of kid-friendly options!

Our waitress Amanda was great ! Very attentive but the other one Kasey has a lot to learn. She was seating people, we asked for a booth and all of them were dirty. We asked if she could clean one off for us and her response was ( that s not my job) I don t get paid for that. So she frowned and walked over to a booth and cleaned it. Came back over and said I m actually a server. This girl is so lucky I m not her employer, she wouldn t have a job after that comment. But the food was great Amanda was great and the atmosphere was great. No complaints thank you Diner we will be back.

The food was wonderful. It was a little pricey, but the portions were generous. The service was mediocre. I felt pressured to give my order right away, then the server stayed gone for a lengthy time after I requested more time to look at the menu. She also took a long time to check on me after I got my food and never got me a refill on my drink. After several minutes of her being MIA or checking on everyone else around me, I finally was able to ask for a refill. Very disappointing service.
