Came here for lunch on Friday (10/4). This place is the bomb! It s a bit pricey, but just make sure to ask them what their special is for the day. Got a fish taco and (2) birria tacos. The vibe is pretty casual and laid back. The food hit the spot with quality and quantity, and it surprisingly came out fast. Customer service was also very friendly and they help a lot with recommendations, your food preferences, or if you want to know what lost people are getting. I highly recommend this taco joint!

We came in from Corpus christi for a concert and stopped here for dinner before the show. The food was amazing. We shared a cali burrito and I give it a 10. We also ordered the rolled tacos which was good but at the end it was too much food for us. But I highly recommend this place. Service was amazing and super friendly. Cant wait to see them again in a month for the next concert here at the woodlands.

Came here in search of Quesabirria and Califas delivered! The Quesabirria and consome is delicious here. I started my search for Quesabirria yesterday afternoon and I tried the place with the neon purple signs that everyone seems to know, the Quesabirria at that place was tasteless and dry shredded beef and their consome tasted like hot water with salt. Dont go to the place with the black paint job and purple neon for birria, come to Califas, you wont be disappointed.

This is such a bummer because this place has great authentic California burritos. I came here and ordered a California burrito but received the Califas burrito instead. After I took two bites and noticed that it was the wrong burrito the cashier stated that I was wrong and that the receipt showed an Califas burrito. I told her that it was a mistake (the califas burrito comes with guacamole, I ordered guacamole on the side because the California burrito does not) she was hesitant at first but eventually, after continued back and forth of her saying that I was wrong and I would have to pay for a new burrito, she did say that they would make me a new, correct burrito. Fast forward about 10-15 minutes she comes out and says that actually I spoke to the owner and because I took a bite out of the previous burrito, I couldn t get a new one. She only offered the original burrito back. I refused after saying that it had been in the back getting cold and who knows what else. I just wanted a refund which she refused stating that they do not do refunds. After 30 minutes of her staring things that she could not do she continued to call the owner and he finally told her to offer a refund. Which I took.

We are from So. Cal. San Diego, east county. Tex-mex is just not cutting it. Found this place, 45 min drive, dont care, it is the closest thing we have found to So. Cal. Mexican food. Lunch: Amazing, authentic & flavorful tacos! We had birria and fish tacos. Salsas also delicious. Excellent customer service. So good will be back for dinner to try something else on the menu! Dinner: We had the order of five shredded beef flautas (rolled tacos). They were great! Best we have had since our trip to San Diego. Very crisp and not greasy. Lots of shredded beef inside. Enjoyed the toppings and fresh homemade salsas on them. They were filling, so no need for sides. Excellent service again!

Looking for authentic flavors look no further. Food is amazing best of all it s served hot, temperature is a biggie for me and flavor is as real as it gets. I m Mexican and this authentic to their style. I m on a carnivore diet and they accommodated me and made me cheese tortillas at no extra charge. The customer service is impeccable and this is a gem. It s a must try, you won t be disappointed. Owners are very friendly and very welcoming. Last but not least their service is fast and their attentiveness is superior to many restaurants, they truly go above and beyond for their customers. The food is genuine. The people just as much so. The menu and the service are simple and efficient. Their seving sizes are generous. The place is well-lit, clean, and had enough space between tables to not feel claustrophobic. I couldnt possibly ask for more. This is my new go-to place for my lunch breaks. I really appreciated seeing horchata in the drink machine. Wheelchair accessibility: Theres plenty of room for you to get through the place, but you may have a little trouble with the counters being high up. Dont worry, though. The staff will certainly help you.

The food taste was great. The one thing I would say is, dont use the paper tray under the Califas Fries, it got soggy, ripped and I almost ate some of it with my food. Also the food gets cold to fast, maybe serving it over some heated plates would help it stay warm a little longer. I loved the agua de horchata and the agua de jamaica. The food portions are good. The ladies working were very helpful and friendly.

The tacos are the best in town NO DOUBT. I think they are the closest to real Mexican tacos ive had in Texas. Burritos are GIGANTIC. The order of rolled tacos (3) or (5) are very full of beef so dont underestimate them in the pictures. Sauces are great, so is the service! *would reccomend eating outside *would reccomend cleaning the restrooms more regularly and/or updating the sink as it looks dirty but it might just be old. Was looking for an after work spot to have a mini weeknight kickback and saw the deceptively high ratings. Not sure how its rated so high or maybe we were there on an off night. Very underwhelming: food was mid (at best), service didnt exist and the atmosphere was just ok. This place is fairly close to where I live but cannot recommend it at all. We tipped well because where Im from, thats what we do and I really hate leaving bad reviews but this was super disappointing. The only plus was the cerveza was cold and restrooms worked.

Pretty good food. Service was really great as well. The restaurant is filled with bright colors and very pretty lights. Makes for an incredible night scene while eating some yummy tacos. Prices are very reasonable compared to other places. Food amounts were generous. Keep in mind, Califas is counter service so they don t have to check on you however the lady working tonight went about and beyond any counter service personnel would do. She didn t have to check on us, but she did. She didn t have to bring us water, but she did. Will definitely be come back for some more yumminess.

This restaurant has HORRIBLE customer service and they sale food that is NOT edible. I visited this restaurant this month and the tacos were so hard you could chip a tooth. I politely asked could my order be recooked for a shorter time and was told no. Then when I asked for a refund I was told only the manager could do it and they don t know when she ll be back. So the owner was called and she informed me I ll get a refund and all I had to do was leave my number and she ll get back to me. Well it s been weeks now and NO call back. And everytime I call them I get the same message that the manager is not in & they don t know when she ll be in but I can leave my number. But I NEVER get a call back. What kind of business is this?

A hidden gem in the Woodlands. I am a Chilango (México City Born and raised) and these are the best tacos we have found in the Woodlands. Stopped by to eat here and I got the mar y Tierra ($17 and some cents) as I was eating I noticed that the shrimp looked a bit weird and smelled weird too. Saw the high ratings and decided to check this place out. The deco is definitely the best part, super cute and chic and the guac on my carne asada taco. However the food was meh. My husband and I tried the crunchy beef taco, the carne asada taco, the mar y tierra taco, and the poblano taco, as well as the rice and beans. Beans tasted like Rositas can beans, rice was eh okay. My biggest complaint is seasoning and cooking technique. You can t call it carne asada (grilled meat) if the meat was borderline boiled so maybe it stewed too long and didn t cook properly on the flat top? Paid 26 bucks for 4 tacos and a 3 oz cup of rice and beans. Overall was too highly priced for what you get. The tortillas were hand made but dry and the best part were the cooked onions in the cold salsa bar but would ve been better if hot. Also, the food came out in parts which was a little odd. First, rice and beans, next my crunchy and soft taco, lastly my husband s two tacos.

My husband was so excited about this place opening up, since he s a San Diego native and misses their Mexican food. He first went when they opened and loved it so much the owner was there and talked with him and he said it was the best burrito he s had since moving to Texas. This past weekend he decided he wanted to take me. He got a California Burrito and I got the Fries with Carne Asada. He took one bite of the burrito and he said it made his stomach turn. He opened it up and it was mostly filled with cold cheese, he took it to the counter to talk to them about it and they said that the meat is supposed to melt the cheese. He told them the meat itself wasn t even warm enough to do that. They did apologize for the food not being cooked to his liking but that was it. They didn t offer any kind of fix and just took his plate. We were so bummed we just left. Not the kind of food you expect when paying $18 for a burrito. We most likely won t be back due to how expensive it is with the food not being worth the price. Had really high hopes for it too.

Cute inside. This is the 2nd time trying this place. First time, it was newly opened and I wasn t impressed with the tacos I got, but thought I d try again after it had been open a little longer. First of all, it s expensive for what it is. Walk up order/self serve drinks from plastic cups and plastic utensils. Ordered a chicken burrito that had nothing interesting in it. Really dry chicken at that. It came with nothing so I ordered a side of rice that was very flavorless. Why didn t a burrito have some variety in it like most places. Some beans, rice cheese maybe? But nothing but meat and sparse pico was barely edible. Ordered a margarita that was ok, couldn t taste any alcohol in it at all. $25 for a lunch that was this below average, definitely the last time I ll be here. It was noon on a Tuesday and hardly anyone was here. Now I know why. $1.50 for this tiny styrofoam cup of rice. Barely 2 tbs of rice for that. Not at all worth the money for the quality of this food.

I have come several times because the food is very good, however, in the vast majority of visits I have received service in which it seems that the cashier is doing you a favor. The food is 100% worth the visit but the service attitude of the cashier makes the experience worse.

The Cali burrito was good but was missing something. That something is pico de gallo. I think that would elevate the burrito that much more and increase my visits to this hidden gem. Staff was friendly and the salsa s were delicious as well.

My wife and I have tried the tacos and burritos and they were very tasty! The were very generous with their portions. Their green creamy salsa compliments the food but be cautious because it packs a kick. Worth every penny.

Apparently, there arent many Mexican restaurants in the Woodlands area, so we were really excited to try it out Califas. We ordered an egg, bacon, and cheese burrito, and let me tell you, it was huge! The salsa was also amazing. Oh, and the restaurant had a really cute vibe too. Just thought you all might want to check it out sometime!

I visited Califas for the first time for dinner on 12/14/2023. I ordered two tacos (pablano beef and a chicken one) and both were excellent. Though Im not a corn flour tortilla fan, I was pleasantly surprised at how all the tastes came together. The amount of filling provided was generous as well. The staff was very friendly and made the experience even better. I will definitely be coming back here with my wife to try a burrito. Thank you for a great meal!

This is a great place to have authentic mexican style and flavor tacos. Hands down, the best tacos in The Woodlands area. When you see the menu, the prices might seem a bit high for tacos, but keep in mind when ordering that these are big size tacos. For example, the Califa taco is a big size taco. The first time, I tried 8 tacos, and shared all with my wife, and it was waaay too much food. Only 4 tacos would have been enough. I recommend ordering 1-2 and if still hungry, can order more. They can make it fast.

The tacos are very good !!!! However, the price is high for tacos. Especially in a city where you can get good tacos for a reasonable price all over . A drink and 2 tacos came to 16.00 and they were little like street tacos . However , they were tasty . Should you want any lettuce , tomatoes or pico Thst will cost an additional .50 cents each . We came here for the first time tonight. Our new favorite place! Hands-down the most authentic tacos. Authentic, generous portions, reasonably priced, cute atmosphere. We ordered the Califas , poblano, and Baja shrimp. The Califas was Carne Asada wrapped in grilled Monterey Jack cheese. So good! My favorite was the Poblano. Carne Asada with roasted poblano peppers. Delicious!!! Staff was super friendly. Restaurant is clean, bright and eclectic. Highly recommend!

After living in San Diego for many years Mexican food standards went through the roof. Being it here in Northern Houston there was next to nothing that could compare. THIS PLACE IS IT!!! I wish i could give the Service a 10!!! Just from the smell walking in to the bye see you next time (cause there will be a next time)... it was AMAZING! Its hard to find an AUTHENTIC MEXICAN food place that holds those real Mexican flavors (especially on this side of town) The Carnitas and asada had so much of it. Michoacan being a state in Mexico known for their flavorful carnitas, I knew these were going to be good when the owner Lucero told me her family is from Michoacan! You have gained a mew customer Califas!!! Cannot wait to try other meals on the menu! P.S she was so sweet to let me try a sample pf their POZOLE VERDE they serve on the weekends. It was amazing!! When you add the chile de arbol en aceite, it brings out so much flavor

Best tacos I ve had in The Woodlands. I tried the mar y Tierra and the poblano and the flavor was outstanding, the corn tortilla is awesome and the salsas add a lot of flavor to them (careful they are a bit spicy). I was even surprised by the price of the beer under $4! While the price of a taco may seem high ($5-6) they are pretty big in size and I was satisfied with only 2 tacos. In other places I had to order 4 to get full thus ending paying a lot more. I ll definitely return to try the rest of the menu!

Very delicious food. Have been at Califas a few times and the food is outstanding. I have tried most of the menu items by now. The customer service is elite. The girls in the front and the owners are amazing. They love to take care of their customers. The Mar y Tierra Taco is out of this world. My favorite is the carnitas because they remind me of my home town in Mexico. You got to try this place! You will not be disappointed!!! Their burritos are massive, super great quality. They have really fantastic salsa. The owner was also very sweet. The service was very nice. You can tell they have passion in what they do. I had the Califa burrito the first visit. The second I had a breakfast burrito. The Califa as a 10/10 with Carne. Not a super fan of the flavor of the Pollo. Probably will be sticking with the Califa burrito or tacos when I go.

Just finished eating here for the first time. Food is really good. Love the flavors and food was brought out in a timely manner. Only thing I have to complain about is the size of the drink. 3.49$ for a kid size cup. I m fact my kids got kids meals and there cups are the same size as mine! Wow! This place is a new favorite, for sure. More SoCal style Mexican food in The Woodlands, and Im here for it. Highly recommend the Califas tacos. Either protein choice is delicious (hubby got one of each), but the chicken won overall. I had the poblano taco and the Baja shrimp. Everything was delicious, plus theyve got a few beers on tap. Also, saw another patron order the rolled tacos, which will absolutely be my next order! Service was friendly, and the place is styled really nicely. Cant wait to go back.

The food here was excellent and so were the micheladas. We tried the La Gringa tacos (delicious) as well as the Califas Fries with Adobada (amazing- highly recommend)!
