Been coming since 2005 and seen slow decline. Now 2024 cant even order a beer without it taking over an hour. Food... almost 2hrs and counting. On top of that we ordered chicken wings... wings... we got drumsticks... not drumetts, but drumsticks. This place has crashed hard. Quality is horrible, service is stretched, pride is out the window.

Came into another seat yourself restaurant, my eyes met with the waiter like 4 time but she claims she never saw me, so I was waiting for about 5-10 minutes but other than that the server was nice. The food was delicious I had the bacon blue squared which is a blue cheese burger and it was delicious and I got potato wedges (JoJos for my NW people) which wasnt bad but I wish they seasoned them.

ordered the catfish platter, everything was cooked well but the side of onion rings was rather inadequate and the single filet of catfish wasn t worth the 17$ ticket in my opinion. however i did receive great service and there is excellent beer and cider options on tap, so id definitely return.

We had to wait over an hour for our food, but our amazing waitress Natalie, was sweating to get everyones orders in, as we had a big group, there were also a lot of college kids, and people coming off the river. The cooks worked their butt off to get the food out as quick as possible. The manager, Samantha and Natalie cleaned off tables and pushed then together to accommodate our big group. I definitely recommend The Taproom. Parking was a pain in this whole area though.

Now listen closely...when I say extremely cool staff I mean that !!! Best service in San Marcos... Now the food is to die for theres no other burger in San Marcos that tops tap room !!! They have over 100 different beers to choose from its crazy but true extremely clean bathrooms this place is a pure joy !! My friend Maddie Ave took me here they have a new beacon jamm that is extremely yummy on the burgers and a golden mustard bbq is so good you can put it on everything I was eating it by itself it sooooo freaking good all made in house at the Tap room ..this place is a gem!!

EDIT:This is in response to the followup made by one of the owners below. Please see the attached photo of my original review as there is a character limit on these reviews. I wasnt going to pursue this any further, until my character seemingly was put into question in your response. Ill address each of your responses in the order they were written. Firstly, I think there was a misunderstanding on what the goal of the original review was. There was a commission of a service, which in this case was a meal, that failed to meet expectations. This was then given a review based on our experience, which is the norm for any business that publicly accepts feedback on any service they offer. What you have seemed to interpret it as is a personal attack on you, your character, and whatever communities you identify yourself as a part of. This is well off course from the original purpose of the review, and Im sorry if that was hard to comprehend upon your reading of my review, which judging by your response, was very brief. Im glad to have the opinion of someone who, as stated by you, was not even in the same room where our experience took place, and was most likely told what had happened through a game of telephone by the individuals accused of behaving inappropriately. You say you saw the time stamps of our visit. I stated it was approximately 20 minutes before initial contact, which you stated was 15. This is what approximately means, but thank you for the clarification. I may have misinterpreted the lapse in time, as I was taken a back when I went to the restroom to find your toilet lacks a door, (see attached picture) If you read my review thoroughly, you would have seen that the reason I was using the term self-designated restaurant owner , was due to the fact that I would never proudly state I would own this establishment given the way that is ran. Neither your gender, sexuality, marital status, or race should play a factor towards your capability as an owner. I resent that you have made the insinuation that I was referring to any of these factors in my original review. Internal reflection on your part may be needed to address why this is the first conclusion about my character that you come to. As for the tipping, we were told that 2% of all tips given on the card machine go to the bartender. This is what was relayed to us during our visit. I did not pull this fact out of thin air, so some training on how exactly your tipping system works to your employees may be in order. Whether an investigation by the BBB is in order due to the legality of this, that is outside of my jurisdiction. Im very disappointed that you rely on calling into question my moral character and insinuating that I have a Deep seeded sexism issue when in reality, this is just poor reception to feedback, due to your possible insecurities as a new owner that you are not performing as well as you had hoped. I hope that you can improve both yourself and your business in these respective aspects and prosper in the future, as I said in my original review. I also hope this is the end of this interaction, and your incoherent mudslinging towards peoples characters, that were simply reviewing their experience of your business, is put to rest. I would like to personally apologize to Sara, who you indicated was our waiter, if she felt that any Ill will was directed towards her. She was the star of our experience. Again, the problem lies with the upper management. She did a great job despite the roadblocks put in front of her by your lack of employee retainment. I hope to see her prosper at a different location where she would have a significantly better day-to-day and future experience under somebody who manages their team better. Given the recent reviews by former employees, its no surprise as to your lack of staffing.

First thing first while my wife was at Texas State we used to eat at this establishment at least once or twice a month however, this was about five years ago. While taking A trip back to San Marcos I thought it prudent to go back to the place that I loved so much when I lived here. Unfortunately, I was met with understaffed employees, and very rude and malicious ownership. After we were sat me and my three friends looking to have a round of drinks, it took them at least 20 to 30 minutes to even acknowledge our existence. I could tell something was wrong when the waiter came to take our order she took only two of our orders and tried to start walking away while we were still attempting to place orders for drinks. Once we placed our orders, two of the drinks showed up but took another 15 to 20 minutes for the next set of drinks to arrive to our tables. Same thing happened again when we tried to order food, the waitress only took half the order and kept walking away while we were still trying to place our orders and had to tell her We still wanted to order other items. After we had our food, we Wanted to order another round of drinks, but the waitress was nowhere to be found so we attempted to flag down somebody to get to our table and when they arrive to our table, they greeted us with attitude and snarky remarks. Such unprofessionalism from the Person that claimed to be business owner. As we were paying and attempting to leave the business owner came back to our table and Asked us to leave because we did not want to leave tips for the other portion of the staff other than the waitress so instead of leaving credit card tips that go to everyone in the business we left cash tips for only the waitress and apparently that lit her fuse. Understanding that this business has changed hands I think for the worse and cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone. Even though the food is still pretty good. Such a shame this was an incredible place to get a bite to eat have a beer and watch the game. Unfortunately, with all the influx of new residence in San Marcos, the service industry has taken a major hit. This is not my first negative service experience in San Marcos of late and unfortunately, one of my favorite locations has lost my business forever.

This was our home bar when we were at Texas State. I spent waaay too much money here and drank waaay too much beer over the years. I completed the 100 beer challenge and got my name forever on the wall. This place hold some of our best memories. The food is freakin good too. From the food to the bar to the community, everything is genuine. You will not be disappointed. P.S.: I love you Taproom! Vegetarian options: They have a house-made black bean patty that does not disappoint and all their food is ridiculously good. Oh, and beer is typically vegan, so drink freely!

Used to be a 5 star favorite of mine. Went yesterday pretty early, maybe too early and that s why the experience wasn t great. Waitress was nice but very timid and green. When she brought out our food one of her hairs was on my French Fries. I should have just sent all my food back but decided to keep the burger while waiting on the fresh fries. I ate half of it without paying attention and then realized the burger was extremely under cooked, basically raw. At that point I was just done and don t think I ll be back to visit anytime soon.

The GM feels it is ok to talk to employees however he wants. He thinks it is ok to bring up female personal problems in front of customers. He thinks it is ok to demean the female staff. And if you go to the owner about him you will get fired while she sits there and says nothing. Horrible work environment and I would not give them a penny. There will be a complaint filed with texas work force and the Texas labor commission.

Well, I have to say that this was one of the best burgers weve ever had! We also ordered the onion rings which were good, not the best, but good. Atmosphere was typical for a bar. Service was just ok. For a first-timer, it was hard to find the restaurant....its in the back of the bar. Youre sort of on your own. Theres not.much help getting you there. Anyway, once we landed, things got.moving in the right direction. Our waitress was very distracted and I had to get up and get her attention to get service. Overall, we were very happy with the food. The burgers were huge, and well cooked. Will definitely go back (now that I know the trick in getting there!) Parking: Street parking is challenging. Be careful. Wheelchair accessibility: Quite challenging.

Average used to come here during college (2004-2012). They changed the whole model. Queso burgers used to be on Hawaiian buns and used to be golden spears for fries. They state sourdough buns but it is a regular bun. Smoking while in the restaurant. IDGAF if it is a vape pen. Also a friend ordered a guac queso burger w/ guac on the side. Forgot the side. When they brought the guac, it was brown. Do better. I forgot to add. They have 30+ beers posted. I asked for two and they were out of those with no subs. Sour to sour. I ordered a second beer. Also out. So much for tap room . I don t always review but when I do it means something.

I had to come back and leave a new review since the last one I left was seven years ago Taproom has changed a lot! Taproom is a classic choice here in San Marcos and they are known by locals for their burgers. I love the Wingo Wingo bingo bango that they have on Wednesdays, the host really brings the energy! They also have trivia night on Tuesdays and both nights Wings are $1. The wings are delicious! I love to get lemon pepper mixed with buffalo. They also have an amazing house made ranch to go with it. They are always rotating drafts, so I often find beers I like here that I can t find anywhere else. The bartenders here are some of the best bartenders on the Square they have such kind, upbeat personalities. This place has so much history and you can tell by the building and the decor on the walls and above the bar. I miss the cordon blue bites that they used to have! Also the buns on their burgers are unmatched in this town! My personal favorite is the mushroom Swiss burger. Definitely stop by here and visit if you re looking to have a chill meal or a randomly fun Wednesday night.

So I must say, im pretty disappointed and now I feel like the cool part of having a ton of beers on tap - is ruined. Adding a service fee charge is just going to take tips away from your servers, and in my case, I may not return until the service fee is removed. Also, they increased their prices all around. For lunch for 3, with 5 beers total was $86.

Saw an ad for this on FB saying it had the best burgers in the county, so we had to try it out. If you know parking in this area, you will be happy to know there is parking in the back just for the Tap Room. The atmosphere is fantastic. Love all of the old taps lining the walls. Then you have the wall of beer to peruse, and if you can decide what to get, your server is more than happy to help you out. If you dont want beer, they also have a full bar to make something more to your liking. I ordered the blue cheese bacon burger without the blue cheese. My spouse got the Philly burger. The burgers were both presented well and led great. Both were well seasoned and very juicy. We truly enjoyed our lunch. The food, service and atmosphere are great, it is a bit pricy so be prepared for that. We will be back.

This is the second time Ive been here and it was just as good the second time! Nice staff, great burgers, clean restrooms and a chill atmosphere. The only thing that really draws me back is a particular smell I noticed both times I have visited. It smells like a gas leak but surely it cant be that since the staff and other people didnt seem to be bothered by it. Over all, I certainly would say I recommend this place if you are in the mood for a good burger! Parking: The parking situation really depends on how much luck you have at the time. The first time I went the parking lot was full but luckily I found street parking. This second time I was able to find a few open spots in their parking lot, which is kinda small.

I love this place! The beer selection is amazing and the staff is always so friendly. I always stop at The Taproom when I m in San Marcos, even though it s not immediately off I35. I can usually find parking fairly easily either on the square or in the parking lot behind the historic building. Highly recommend!

Out of tons of the beers listed on their wall, ordered chicken tender basket and got two tenders and handful of fries for $14. Paid extra $1.50 for fries with burger and got maybe 8 fries. Food was piping hot, so it had that going for it.

Its been a hot minute since Ive been into the Taproom. Id heard there was an ownership change since my last visit. Went in with high hopes that the burgers were still out of this world... My expectations were definitely met with an absolutely awesome burger and the wedge fries STILL being fantastic !!! Even my super picky best friend who had never been was raving how good the burgers were! New owners kept the food to the sane high standard as b4 and Im looking forward to my next visit.

May the 4th be with you! (Better late than never!) Huge, creative burgers and delicious tap beer was on our menu, and The Taproom brought it. We enjoy eating here when we make it to San Marcos, and it never disappoints. Unfortunately, we were so hungry that I didnt snap any photos of our food before we ate it all. I had my fave, the Guacamole Queso burger, and the hubbs tried out the Fat Mac, complete with mac-and-cheese right on his burger. YUM!

This place has good drinks, prompt and friendly service. Food items are pricy and arent served by anyone with an eye for presentation but theyre unusually tasty. Seriously. We got an order of the cheese fries and they looked so thoroughly plain. We were amazed at how good they were. Same for the burger and Philly cheese steak. To note: Nothing on the menu comes with sides. Id come back over and over if cost werent of no concern.

Change of ownership was very unfortunate. They claim their classic burgers haven t changed, but I was scared to see what the new 666 sauce is so I bought the works, the legit classic. No longer are the veggies sauteed together, I had raw jalapeño and raw mushroom on mine. This is also not a burger that needs tomato on it , it never had that before. The fries are absolutely terrible, the old seasoned wedges will be missed. These are just unseasoned soggy plain fries. To top it all off? Two beers and two burgers was 70$ . Totally not worth it. A San Marcos classic restaurant has officially died .

Went on a Monday and asked Are the burgers half priced? And was told yes only to be told when bill arrived that its buy one, get one half off. When I questioned her she said, Well, I didnt charge you for your tea. - While Im looking at my bill, clearly charged for the tea. She seemed to be the only one working though other workers were obviously there. The fried mushrooms were very good. The burgers can only now be cooked medium well, which for me, ruins the burger. Just a few months ago it was not like that, so what a shame I wont return for a burger.

The menu and service is by far some of the best here in San Marcos! The waiters and waitresses that have served me are top notch. I have never had to ask for a water refill. On busy days, they have gone out of their way to make sure I know they havent forgotten about me. Being a creature of habit with my meals I have noticed great constancy no matter what time of day I order a particular meal. I would highly recommend this as a destination when youre out and about. You wont regret it!

A drop in on the drive home. We were coming home from an anniversary trip and decided to find one last good pour before we went into exile in our town. Not disappointed in the least! Though Google Maps couldnt keep up with where we were and how to get here, we figured it out. Of course, having access from two different streets to the same establishment is probably what caused some of the confusion. Worth it!! Bar, pool tables, TVs on the town square side, restaurant with 30+ tap handles (and TVs) on the other side. Massive wall with all the beers currently on tap, color coded to assist and listed with ABV to boot. Waitress was very nice, friendly and helpful. Steered my wife thru a few recommendations and a sample or two to get locked down on a beer she thoroughly enjoyed. Got me a taste of the one I was eyeing because it was a little different in its profile. Different, but GOOD. Food was fast and excellent. 666 Burger for me with sweet potato fries and a rib-eye salad for my wife (yep, I like my carbs). Ok, ok. She did end up getting a side of sweet potato fries after he tried mine. Everything was excellent and fitting for the style of the establishment. Remember, this is a pub. Enjoy viewing the retired tap handles that decorate the top of the bar and around the walls. Well stop in again, if we are in San Marcos. Might even make it a trip. DD anyone?
