Never got any service. Around noon in a Sunday, not busy by any means. Sat at the table while the two hostesses, or ladies standing at the front, just chatting away. Tried to signal to someone, we were just ignored.

I absolutely love Blue Dahlia s Bistro. We always get there for brunch. You can order anything on the regular menu: Make sure you order the waffles for desert! That s my favorite part. They have many kinds of mimosa s too. I guarantee you will enjoy this place. Don t forget to check out the garden room out back! it makes me feel like I m in France.

Beautiful atmosphere and the best brunch in San Marcos! If the weather is nice, ask to sit in the secret garden and watch the birds play under a canopy of grapevines. Too hot for that? Enjoy the rotating collection of local art inside. Favorite dishes: veggie frittata, goat cheese salad, French dip, coq au vin blanc. If you re in the mood for something sweet, try the blueberry blintzes. Several others mentioned that the open-faced tartines come on untoasted bread, but you can request that it be toasted (I recommend it.) Everyone that works here is friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. Expect a wait around peak brunch time, but there is plenty of availability for dinner.

Came from out of town, and I enjoy trying local places. This one honestly did not stick out to me. Felt like I paid a lot and still felt hungry after. Nothing about the menu seemed particularly unique to make me want to return. Employees were amazing, though. Parking: Street parking directly in front of the restaurant with a two hour limit. The bistro shares the block with other restaurants, so I can see this being difficult to find a close parking spot during busy hours.

The service, food, and vibe were all great. Every team member was friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Had the best frittata I think I ve ever had. Plus appreciated so much that they served delicious, gluten-free bread. No cardboard Udi s bread served here. The restaurant also had nice charm. We didn t want to sit outside in the 103 degree heat today, but would like to return on a nicer day to sit on one of the beautiful, covered patios - a small patio in front and a larger patio in back. My only complaint about our experience is that inside the restaurant was soooo loud that it was often hard to hear the conversation at our table. As in abnormally loud because of the acoustics in the space. Maybe acoustic panels could help? Dietary restrictions: Our server was friendly and knowledgeable about dietary restrictions. Many great, gluten-free options on the menu. Plus delicious gluten-free bread was available.

This resturant has entirely lost the plot of being a resturant that serves food. You cannot possibly get the attention of a waiter because they are all busy chatting amongst themselves. The food quality is poor & takes forever to come to the table. We ordered at 10:45 and received the meal at 11:37am (4 entrees). The restaurant was at 40% capacity. Also, the plates are slabs of stone & coffee cups are small soup bowls..terrible choices all around. Hopefully, the public realizes this dirt poor quality and finds somewhere else to eat. I wish I did.

We loved it. Beautiful restaurant. Ask for the secret garden if its nice out. We asked the very friendly waiter to surprise us with an appetizer and two different entrees. They brought a tartine appetizer with prosciutto and Brie that was amazing. They brought mushroom crepes that were equally impressive. They really knew how to bring out a perfect level of mushroom flavor. Other dish was coq au vin blanc. Full of capers and other vibrant flavors. Currently enjoying a yellow rose IPA they had on draft and wife has a juicy IPA. You should check this place out if you dont like boring. 5 stars easy.

We went there last night for the first time. Its incredible. Great atmosphere- quaint, moody, clean. We ordered the tuna, meat platter, chicken stew and bean salad. Everything was fresh, presented beautifully and seasoned to perfection! The portions were spot on- enough for 3 of us to take home leftovers. We were too full for dessert! Dont overlook their cocktails. I had the Paloma and it was the best one Ive ever had. Make sure to check out the Secret Garden- a romantic stone grotto that is extra seating. Well request that space on our next visit. Service was great and friendly. MUST try!

It s a great cafe for small parties, such as a brunch date with a friend. The coffees are great and I like that there are dairy alternative options for creamers, I like the latte art. The food is okay. Not sure if it s just the things I ve ordered but I thought I was getting a sandwich both times I ve gone and both times it was open face on untoasted bread. My meals were also served on a slate plate, which is great for picture taking but lacks practicality when eating. Very much hipster vibes. I still think it s a great breakfast place and will continue to visit with friends. Dietary restrictions: Dairy free and gluten free options Parking: Very hard to find parking. You will need to walk to this restaurant. Wheelchair accessibility: None

What a lovely little gem in SanM! We sat outside in the courtyard/secret garden and it was just lovely. We were highly entertained by the birds...bathing in the fountain with their big personalities. So sweet. Food was good, I had a deconstructed brie baguette sandwich. My friend had the granola. Both meals were well presented and tasty. 2 points Id make for improvement on my meal - salad greens were not as fresh and crisp as I had anticipated my Chai tea was a little bland and weak. Overall experience was excellent and will definitely be back.

The Blue Dahlia is a gem on the square in San Marcos. Fresh and well-presented food in a secret garden? Fantastic. Tried the tartines (open-faced sandwiches) and they were excellent... egg salad with mildly spicy capers and brie with apricot jam and walnuts. Portion sizes are healthy in the right sense of the word. Service is attentive while contributing to a relaxing vibe. Indoors our out, a great spot. Afterwords, take a slow constitutional around the courthouse square for a very rewarding experience. Update 11/20: Again, very impressed with the service and food. This time I tried the savory crepes and chicken salad tartine. Sat inside only because it was a little damp out but the ambience of the spot is cool, warm, and artsy. Definitely a must try in San Marcos. Parking: Parking is available on the streets in the area starting right outside the restaurant.

So glad I saw this and lace in an article I was reading about Sam Marcos on Pinterest of all of places. It is a lovely place to eat. We arrived around 1030 and were only ones there. We were waited on immediately. The Latte was served in a short wide mouth mug and had a cute froth design. Did I mention it was delicious. The wait for food was minimal. We had the Spinach and goat cheese frittata because I was feeling adventurous but it was loaded with too much goat cheese for my taste but still very good. My husband had the Parisian sandwich and he loved it. Can t wait to go again and try other menu items. This is definitely a cute coffee date place.

I love the simple menu full of wonderful healthy choices that are pleasantly different from most American restaurants. We tried the hummus tabouleh plate and coq au Vin which is like a soup & salad. Almost everything came with some good fresh bread. Both felt healthy but heavy enough to be filled. Ingredients felt fresh and I could tell were not part of a mass production process. My honest review of blue dahlia: HORRIBLE, I will never ever ever ever eat here again in my life. Our waitress was extremely unfriendly and annoyed the second we sat down. She clearly didn t want to make a cold brew for us and lied saying they were OUT yet everyone else who ordered it was getting it served to them. The staff was completely against us, after our waitress disappeared for 20 minutes. We sat and watched our food as it sat ready to go from the kitchen for at least 15 minutes and all the staff wondered around like chickens with their heads cut off. Such an awful experience. AVOID AT ALL COST. I honestly just wasted 32 dollars of my money paying for this place. UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Do not, I repeat, do not get the waffles. They were absolutely awful. They tasted like prepackaged waffles, packed with preservatives, and purchased in bulk from the bread aisle at Costco. They had huge sugar chunks in them. Super sweet. Hard. Just disgusting. 4 of us ordered waffles. Thats 8 total waffles. When they cleared our table, there were 5.5 waffles left. My kid nephew only ate one of his. Even a 6th grade growing boy couldnt stomach his second one. I mentioned on two occasions to two different servers who came to our table that the waffles were terrible. Not once did someone ask if we wanted a different option or attempt to make it right. I promise that was our first and last time going there. Do not be deceived by the photos like we were. yuck, yuck, yuck. Some of the other food on the menu looks good, but Im too disappointed to ever give them a second chance.

For how pricey the food is I expected more, the bread is so tough and I can now say all the skin inside my mouth is very scraped up. My sandwich was underwhelming, it came with a side of greens , which was literally three pieces of tiniest arugula they could find. I recommend getting the au jus dip if you get anything with bread, because without it, the bread it impossible to chew. The restaurant is pretty, but the food is extremely overrated, would not come again.

The place was busy and they were not sufficiently staffed. We got water right away, then it was probably 20 minutes before someone came back to get our food and drink orders. I had the black bean salad, which was good. I think the rest of the table felt similar -- we were all happy with our meal. We sat out front and enjoyed the view of the San Marcos center. Its a lovely place.

Stopped by for Sunday brunch. The food was mostly tasty and we enjoyed our time overall. The secret garden in the back was very relaxing and full of little birds and a little water feature. The downside to the birds is that they pooped a couple times on our table dangerously close to my latte so we had to stay vigilant with the food and drinks the rest of the time. The ham on the eggs benny was not the thick kind that traditionally comes with that dish. I also wish it had come with some breakfast potatoes or another side other than salad. The chicken salad was very tasty. The latte was okay but was served cool. Be prepared to wait a very long time for the food but it was a decent San Marcos spot.

I had such a good experience here today! The hair salon next door recommended Blue Dahlia. I got the Brie cheese with Jam and walnuts open faced sandwich and enjoyed every bite ! I put some fresh cracked black pepper and balsamic on mine to cut the sweetness. Best part was I felt full but not gross, the food is very clean and healthy! My server was a delight and very helpful in making my decision since there s so many yummy things to choose from. I look forward to coming back !

Crazy amazing food! San Marcos has several good breakfast spots, but this is head and shoulders above the rest. Bread pudding French Toast, Crossoiont and gravey, and the Persian Breakfast Sandwich is what we had.... incredible!!! Parking: Not a lot of parking immediately near the restaurant.

The menu os great, lots to choose from. The dining room is comfortable but the garden in back is an absolute oasis. It feels like Verona or Sicily. The smoked salmon eggs Benedict was perfect.

Seated facing a wall was not pleasant. Hummus was tasteless until I had something large and chunky with the explosion of a raw garlic pod in my mouth. The tiny slice of watermelon was refreshing and a blessing after the garlic pod. The waiter was nice and the place was clean.
