This park has uneven brick pads, and its got some homeless people coming in and out. Aside from that I guess its pretty decent playground equipment looks nice and theres ample shade. Not bad overall

I learned of this place on Atlas Obscura (side tip: ALWAYS check Atlas Obscura when you visit a new town or city! there will almost always be something cool they tell you about, often more than one thing). And its absolutely gorgeous. You can tell the care thats gone into the design (it commemorates a beloved son after his untimely death) and there are beautiful personal touches all over the park, from his handwriting on the benches to the Wednesdays child installation. I was expecting some fountains, from previous descriptions, but didnt see any, and they would have been a lovely addition on such a burning hot day. But this is a green, cool(ish) oasis in the middle of a hot city; definitely take the time to visit.

The park is conveniently located near 35 South (Alamo street exit) and across from Ruby City on Camp Street ( It is considered part of Ruby City). Fortuitously, I happened to visit in the last hour of the day (the park closed at 1800) -- there was not another soul nearby (so I thought). Shade and places to sit are readily available allowing respite from the harsh Texas sun should one desire to contemplate life, the universe and everything. A note: While taking pictures with my phone I was approached by a member of staff who told me pictures with the phone are ok, but a pictures with a real camera are prohibited without advance permission. All in all, Chris Park is a beautiful patch of green situated in the the concrete canyons of San Antonio!

This is an oddity. Its such a beautiful park located in the most random neighborhood. Its relaxing and isolated from the post-industrial area around it. This was the first park I visited when I got to San Antonio and it holds a special place in my heart for that reason. That all said, it does offer the option of being able to hold a small (think less than 45 people in all) wedding and its perfect for that very reason. It is a bit off the beaten path bit its worth going out of your way if youre already in the south town area. I hope this helps someone.

CHRISpark is a brilliantly designed contemporary park that pairs nature with art. The Linda Pace Foundation did a wonderful job building this serene garden/park in Southtown. Pet-friendly but must clean up after them; only open Tue-Sun. Right next to Ruby City. You have to visit and see the beauty for yourself!

You would never expect such a place to exist in this part of town. I happened upon it while roaming downtown a few months ago and have since visited a few times a month. Its a very neat, small, and slightly odd park. There are some interesting artistic aspects that I wont delve into because its something worth experiencing rather than reading about. One downside of this park is that there always seems to be work going on when I visit. It just takes a little bit out of the experience. It is also in a pretty ugly part of town, though this makes it feel more like an oasis in a desert so Im not sure if its a con or a pro. I highly recommend visiting Chris Park the next time you go downtown.
