THEY CHARGE a 3.25% CREDIT CARD SURCHARGE FEE AND THEY DO NOT DISCLOSE THIS UNTIL YOU GET YOUR BILL. Everything about this place is great but check your bill please and challenge back when they charge you the surcharge fee. It is Illegal in the State of Texas as in many other states to charge a credit card surcharge fee without disclosing it first with signage prominently displayed. You can report violations to the Texas State Attorney Generals office which can result in fines as well as having their ability to accept credit cards taken away from them. It is irritating when you spend $200 plus on your meal and then they stick you with this fee as well.

Ive been patronizing this restaurant for over 40 years (since it was located at Bandera road and Seneca, in Leon Valley). I was sad when Isaac passed away. They truly lost a gem of an employee. Its sad that Covid took so many things from us... the buffet is one of the things I miss most. Our lunch was tasty, but the salsa that day was extremely sub-par and left a bad taste literally all day. Someone didnt follow the recipe at all. Im not one to cancel a restaurant for one misstep... We will be back. Ive lost so many of my favorites over the years, I refuse to lose this one.

Our family loves this restaurant! The food is delicious and there are so many choices on the menu to choose from, and they have the best sangria in town. The wait staff is fantastic! This is our favorite restaurant in San Antonio. Vegetarian options: Salads and spinach enchiladas. There is probably more on the menu, but we are not vegetarians. Parking: There is plenty of free parking. Kid-friendliness: We bring our grandchildren all the time. Other families bring their children as well.

It took our server 18 minutes to take our order and half an hour to bring our chips. It wasnt that full. Fajitas were good, but the taco meat was a little salty and expensive. Three tacos for $12.99. No guacamole or sour cream. Lemonade was good, Sangria was good but small for $15.00.

We went here for dinner tonight as a family. Overall, the place seemed to have an upscale approach. We ordered the super nachos as an appetizer, two Treviño, margaritas, the carne guisada dinner, the shrimp enchilada suizas, a quesadilla and the bananas foster for dessert. Absolutely everything was delicious!! Also, the shrimp enchiladas were hands down the best suizas I have ever had! The salsas were very flavorful. I loved how the restaurant had the tortillas being made fresh on display in the middle of the restaurant. My only critique is that they do not have much of a margarita / Mexican drink option. We ll definitely be coming back here.

Walking in and seeing carpet on the walls should have told me what I was getting into. Always wanted to try out this place so gave it a try. Very disappointed in the food and lack of seasoning. Chips and salsa were bad, mainly just chopped tomatoes in a bowl. Enchiladas with chili and cheese seemed like canned wolf brand chili. Nothing authentic about this place.

This visit was on June 9, 2024...the decor was a little outdated but not really a big deal. The biggest issue was our waiter. We got seated right away, as the place barely had diners, but it took him a bit to take and bring out our drink orders. As we had never been at this establishment, we were undecided about what to order. The waiter asked and I i quote do you need a few extra minutes I hope? So far not a problem as we did need a few extra min. About 20 min later he returned and took our order. From the min we were seated until we got our food, it was over an hour. One of the tables in our area who had the same waiter got up and walked out. My dining companion looked around the corner from where we were sitting and saw him in another section of the restaurant at another table. This was a little after being here for an hour. I think he actually forgot he had customers in another section. When he saw my companion looking around the corner he came back to the table and we asked how much longer for our food. He said a few more min because they were short staffed in the kitchen but went to check and brought the food right away. I dont know how long our food had been sitting there but the cheese enchiladas were not good. The cheese inside had hardened into an inedible, rubbery mess wraps inside a tortilla. The refried beans had no seasoning, completely bland. The rice was dry and the coke tasted dirty. They really should take apart the dispenser nozzles on the fountain and clean and sanitize them. The only highlight of the whole meal was the crispy taco. It was flavorful and luckily had no cheese. I have to say I think he was lying about the short staffed kitchen because a table of 8...children and adults...was seated 10 min after us, got their drinks and food, ate, paid, and left before our waiter took notice of my companion looking for him.

WELL! There was 6 of us as a family We have eaten at this place. This was our 4th time. This time everyone order what they wanted from the menu, we all talked an waited for our dinner to be served. So we had chips., hot sauce, drinks. So when our supper started to be served, we were hoping it was going to be good. Well ! Think again. My CHILIE-RELENO CAME out with cheese on it with beans an rice. I was trying to enjoy my dinner, I could understand why my CHILLIE-RELENO WAS SO MUSHIE. SO I requested the waiter to come to me an I ask him This is what he said Ma there is nothing I can. Do about that, as that is how it comes to us. That everything is Frozen when They receive it. Since I paid the bill on this dinner. It was very high for FROZEN FOOD. THE only thing that we really enjoy was The sapotilia with the honey, Two orders of them. I ask the waiter or server to bring us the little package wipes. He looked but they dont have them. So he dampen some kind of paper towels an brought us 6 of them. We really appreciated him for his efforts. But it is sad to say we want be back. As if we had wanted frozen food dishes that turned out yo be soggy, we will go else where, a. We will definitely do the research before.

Server was young and at times seemed lost. Had to ask for things more than once. Coffee, the wife thought hers was poor. Dessert was great I had Sopapillas with honey. Sister in law had flaming peaches, that werent prepared correctly as it still had a burnt alcohol flavor. Again knew it would be busy, but it felt too packed and felt rushed.

To my surprise when I tried to order another taco, enchilada and chicken fajita taco I was told no I couldn t. I asked the waiter I thought this was a buffet? He said not it is not a buffet. Someone please tell me how something labeled a buffet is not a buffet?!?! If I go to a Chinese buffet I am not told I cannot get another plate. Besides this all else was great.

When it arrived the beans were crusted over and the rice was crunchy. It had been sitting for a while. When we got the food back it was the same food microwaved. The manager said sorry because they were understaffed. Then he went on to say he knows his business as he s been in for 40 years. Let s be honest, there is a Mexican restaurant on every corner in San Antonio. Do better sir or leave the business and let someone else that understands what people want is fresh food take over. I don t write bad reviews but the manager pushed me with his combative attitude. My advise is eat anywhere else.

Very disappointed in the poor accommodations of the restaurant!! It is extremely dark and difficult to see. I have a mother who has poor eyesight and it is impossible for her to partake of anything. The hostess and host are very rude and they will not seat you if your entire party is not only present but must have a foot in the building. This makes it extremely congested and uncomfortable in their tiny waiting area. The building is old and dirty and needs an extreme cleaning. I overheard the owner literally yelling at the poor lady making tortillas and telling her to just get out of here. You could clearly see that she was humiliated, leaving in tears. Please considered your support for poorly run restaurants with this kind of environment and leadership.

Ive been going to this restraunt for 45 years. Seriously. Its consistently my favorite restraunt. If we are in, or even just driving through SA, were going to stop and eat. The food is great. Our favorite ate the Marias tortillas, green corn enchiladas and chicken fundido. The wait staff is consistent and perfectly trained. And the place always feels welcoming.

What the heck is this new Service Fee tacked on to each bill without even mentioning it, just sliding it on like we won t notice? Raise your prices if you need to, don t come up with a nonsensical fee. Your poor servers are probably getting shorted in their tips by people who think it s going directly to the servers. Who is this Service Fee going to anyways???

Randomly stumbled upon this place while vacationing in SA from LBK. The food was delicious however the environment was overly noisy and the restaurant was super dark. For as big as the restaurant was it only had one bathroom stall which was weird and hard when having to take my girls to the bathroom. Would definitely visit again but without the kiddos.

Went for lunch. Whoever greeted me at the door seemed busy with paperwork. She seemed inconvenienced to have to take me to a table. My server was awesome he was very attentive and non intrusive. The enchiladas were really good. Salsa was fresh, and it was honestly really really good with a perfect level of spiciness.

Fairly average Mexican food and it took us 20 minutes to get the check, so I wasn t impressed with the service. It was also $8 for flan which was more like cheesecake than flan and $13 for a skinny margarita. I probably won t be back.

Surprisingly Disappointing I had high hopes as a first time customer. First of all, nobody smiles here, from the manager to the waiter to the busboys. They gave the vibe that we were intruding and/or the staff must not be treated well since nobody seems content to be there (makes you fear whats going on in the kitchen!). I found the prices to be high, and the quality of the food was mediocre. It took 1/2 hr. for our food to arrive. I asked the waiter, he said the cook got the order wrong. Well, you could graciously tell the customer. And on the bill they charged me extra for using a credit card. Plus you have to pay for chips and salsa. When leaving, as I helped my 94 yr old mom who is visually impaired, there was an folding serving table with an empty tray on it blocking our path. Literally two feet away stood the manager. She did not move an inch to remove the equipment, in fact, she was glaring at us, as if we were in her way. This was my moms early Mothers Day meal. Thanks El jarro de Arturo for making it a less than pleasant experience.

Great service. Great food and great atmosphere. You can easily tell why this restaurant is so popular. The service is spot on. Chips and salsa arrive at your table the moment you sit down. And if you are drinking - which I would recommend - their margaritas are wonderful. The food is delicious and come in large portions and while the restaurant is usually crowded - having a conversation is no problem. All in all if you are looking for an excellent Mexican restaurant - you should try el Jarro - I think you will be pleased. Vegetarian options: I get the spinach enchiladas - not too much else on the menu but I am sure they would make you what ever you want

We have been enjoying this restaurant for 30 years! Tonight we had a celebratory dinner planned. Everyones food came out and my husband and I were sharing fajitas. Not only did we not have any plates...we had no tortillas. By the time we received these items, after asking multiple times, the food was cold and the tortillas were leftover from someone elses table...the top one was half eaten!! We were disgusted and when we talked to the owner she shushed us and told us our food would be comped! She also told us they do the best they can...we are not ones to jump and complain. Shortly after she started removing our plates and dishes...needless to say we did not eat there and wont be back. To serve tortillas already eaten is absolutely disgusting and a food hazard!!

A recommendation from a good friend. The atmosphere is very nice and the food was really, really good. The carnitas was so tender and full of flavor. Friends got the Snapper with tequila red sauce and he said it was perfectly cooked and full of flavor. Highly recommend the restaurant.

Highly Disappointed! Everything was fine except the most important part, the food. Almost every plate is overpriced. The manager was rude and told me there was nothing he could do about the beef being salty because it was pre seasoned. So that means the cooks are nothing more than prep cooks.
