What a window into history! Spanish Texas and the imaginative restoration of 1930 are two tales told together as you walk through the rooms of the last remnants of the Presidio San Antonio de Bexar. The courtyard garden is really lovely. And take the time to read the carved door!

I left the Palace very much confused by what I saw. I think that there is little left of the original 1700s Palace but I m not sure. There were additions and restorations up through the 1930s. The furnishings all seem to be Spanish colonial of the 1700s so if you do visit just drink it in and don t worry about the history. Not that much history is provided.

So happy this was within walking distance of the River Walk. I stayed at Hotel Valencia and it was nice being able to walk to the palace . The palace was quiet and a great walking tour from room to room while reading the history. Hard to imagine what it was back in its glory days. Meaning things were much more limited then. For $5, it is a must stop. Plenty of public parking within feet if you choose to drive.

It was the original command (residence and work office) of the captains of the military garrison from 1722 to the beginning of the 19th century. The house has a few rooms furnished with pieces from the Spanish colonial period, and a patio with a garden. The visit is not a big deal, it is done in a moment.

Unfortunately after walking here, I found out they did NOT accept CASH. Our admission was a total of $3 which I knew from the website. Cash made sense to carry and pay with. I even had the exact amount of cash. The attendant at the check-in admitted the website does not say they do not accept cash. From the little I could see from the entrance, it looks like a fine place to visit and learn. Just wish my grandson (who i pushed here in a stroller) and I could have visited. Thankful for the website info and pics. Spanish Governors Palace - Please update your website.

Beautiful place for a nice quaint cocktail hour/ wedding reception. (If your having a big wedding party not really the place for you) The evening was very elegant and perfect weather for my friends wedding reception. I did hear from them that the place has lots of rules to abide by and you arent allowed in until a certain time to set up, which could be a game changer for some weddings but luckily they did have an hour before the wedding to set up and it looked perfect! If you have the right centerpieces, flowers and decor like they did your going to have a beautiful reception. The only drawbacks I saw were the bathrooms were one person at a time and no mirrors and the walkway pavements were very uneven! Definitely a walking hazard in some places. But its truly a charming place and it has great atmosphere for the evening!! Once the flowers were placed and the candles lit with Beautiful music in the air and everyone in formal attire, the evening was made very elegant and classy.

It s not a palace, was never used by governors, and most of the rooms were added either in the late 1800 s as commercial storage, or in 1930 as phony recreations of rooms that never existed. The only history lesson here is an example of re-writing history. It only has three small rooms from the Spanish 1700 s, which were used as office and living space by the captain of the military compound. However, it is worth a visit. It s only a $5 fee, only 2 blocks from the Riverwalk, and only a block from the San Antonio Cathedral, which is the second oldest Catholic cathedral in the US.

Theres also a beautiful courtyard you can walk around in. Tours are self-guided and take roughly 30-40 minutes to complete. Tickets are $5 but there are discounts if youre a senior citizen, young child, etc. Good tour if youre interested in the Spanish-colonial era of Texas/San Antonio.

Having completed the tour of the five San Antonio missions, the tour of the Palace is the last element to understanding the history of the early 1700s and the Sana Antonio area. Ms. Charlotte (front desk) and I had an experience... When I asked about the discount for military service members, she was RUDE to ask if I am a dependent (a spouse or child of a service member) or if I served in the military. I told her that I served in Iraq - TWICE and that her question is gender discriminating because if I were a man, Ms. Charlotte wouldnt have asked if I were a dependent. She confirmed that I was correct, she would not have asked! Women discriminating women - that is so uncool!

Museums are houses of worship. Worship of history, our past, and heritage. Sadly, this was a disappointing experience. Upon the entrance and payment (no discount for students and veterans) we were told we had only about 30 minutes for this visit because they had an even starting and had to close early today. We would prefer this information BEFORE we had already paid and entered. Wed came by another day... We had to rush our visit and hurry. Not good. The museum worker did not show any interest (nor information) to answer any questions about the museum. Maybe the said EVENT was in their way. We really wanted to enjoy our visit yet we did not feel welcomed at all.

If you are an architect or a historical building lovers, it a must to visit this place and amaze how beautiful this place is. This is a small museum, it was used to be a residential of the Spanish Captain and become a Governors of Texas with the story of the past glory. If you visit this place, not so much information available but it will brings you through your imagination to the of the Spanish colonial era by seeing the building, the gardens, the courtyard and the plaza of this Palace. Theres an entrance ticket to go inside the building about USD5/pax.
