While its on the pricier side, the personalized attention and overall experience make it well worth it. The outdoor patio is especially awesome in the spring. Its hard to believe Ive lived here all my life and have never been! I had the Redfish Pontchartrain, and it was a pleasant surprise. The subtle, sweet cinnamon flavor was unexpected but really nice, and they re generous with the lump crab on top, which is a big plus. For dessert, don t miss the Sticky Toffee Pudding. It s absolutely amazing! The interior is also thoughtfully done. Its not too loud, making it perfect for a relaxed and enjoyable meal.

A place that would shine if it werent held back by its own leadership, which employees will silently acknowledge and never voice. The food is decent but - come on. A cabbage wedge? Mustang chicken? This is a time portal. The staff are truly friendly, excepting the owner himself and his Bonnie-in-crime. The outdated rigidity gives the feeling that everyone is operating on autopilot with the menu coasting on its reputation. The owners presence is the biggest issue with Cappys. His idiosyncratic and narcissistic management style shows a stubbornness that wont go away until he is physically incapable of running the place. Any dinner special where the chefs have creative freedom make it clear that the kitchen is capable of better. The brunch menu is standout, but thats the most you can say. Compared to the night/day difference of Cappycinos, the sister restaurant, its hard to *not* see how his much more talented staff are held back from their chance to shine. The restaurant could be something profiled as the next new phenomenon in the Alamo Heights area, but with Cappy calling the shots, its hard to envision. In their heart of hearts, every cook and employee knows that this establishment will flourish when there is longer a ringleader who uses the restaurant as his personal country club. Until that ends, its the culinary equivalent of high-school has-been charging rich people exorbitant amounts of money for an overpriced ribeye. Tragically, the biggest problem with Cappys is in the name itself.

Cappys Restaurant was amazing my date and I enjoyed our visit. We sat at the bar and got to watch the two bartenders do their thing while we waited for our dinner. We enjoyed it so much that we went back the next day but instead, we were convinced to try their sister restaurant LA Fonda.

Cappys is a charming eatery for The Countdown City If you want a great brunch experience do yourself a favor and visit this establishment. We had the weekend breakfast and the Louie benedict, and it was fantastic. The food was great, but the service was the HIGHLIGHT. I cannot remember her name for the life of me, but she exemplified what a waitress should be; attentive, knowledgeable, and patient. It was a pleasure visiting this establishment, from the mimosas to the sticky toffee pudding dessert, everything was spot on.

My wife and I visited Cappys for the first time this morning for brunch and I have to say that everything was amazing. We sat outside under the oak trees and enjoyed the music and the chirping from the birds. My wife had the Homard for her entree and said it was fantastic she would highly recommend it. I had a cup of gumbo, it was delish and the roux was absolutely perfect. I also had the lobster grilled cheese for my entree... it blew my mind. The sourdough bread was lightly toasted and had the perfect amount of butter to make it completely addictive. Each bite had me wanting more and was perfectly balanced with gooey cheese, avocado, and lobster. Our meal was closed out with dessert, the sticky toffee pudding, its an instant classic for me... it must be made with mothers love because its in the top 3 desserts Ive ever had, not kidding. Taylor and Kyle we enjoyed meeting and speaking with you both. Thank you for the recommendations and your hospitality. Were looking forward to our next visit.

You have got to visit this place if you are in town. The food is impeccable. The salmon was cooked to perfection (medium well for me) and paired amazingly well with the lobster mash potatoes, which is its own beast. It was creamy with chucks of succulent lobster meat that just melted in your mouth. All of my colleagues, who ordered the salmon, devoured their plates as well. My other colleague opted for the crabcakes, which she thought was delicious. Additionally, the waitress was kind and attentive. Disclaimer: My colleagues and I ate very little, if at all that day, so I suggest visiting on a near empty stomach for the best or potentially biased food experience.

We had wonderful service and a relaxed, but elegant atmosphere. I love that the waiter did not intrude on our conversation, but waited until we gave our contact to approach the table. Nothing worse than being interrupted midsentence! They also did not use the horrible phrase you still working on it? as they go to take your plate, or say no problem . This restaurant is very clean. The parking can be a little crowded, but you can manage. We had mustang chicken, which was succulent, flavorful and not overly greasy. Hamburger and french fries were huge and delicious the atmosphere the restaurant is bright when you sit near the windows on the porch. They have a nice selection of fish! No organic salads however hardly any restaurants in San Antonio provide that.

Cappy Lawton hit on a winning concept years ago with a great menu, expertly prepared and served with style, and has never changed it. Cappys is our go-to place where we always leave happy and satisfied. Also worth a shout- out are their bartenders who serve up a delightful mix of curated cocktails as well as customized libations. Few San Antonio restaurants have a bar service equal to Cappys. Great food, great drinks, and great service, all of which maintain their consistency year after year. A rare thing in this day and age.

The bread is really good but you do have to ask for it. The service is excellent. When we told our server about the bread incident he was more than happy to pack us a loaf to go. I believe his name was Angel. All in all I would highly recommend Cappys. Keep in mind it is moderately expensive.

Went here for my wifes Birthday lunch. The food was pretty darn good. The swordfish was amazing! My wife got a crab cake because that is what she wanted (she loves crab cakes). We were pretty disappointed by the quality of the crab cake. It was very little crab and a lot of breading so it tasted a little crab-like but NOT what we are used to. Weve had crab cakes at other (less pricey) places and they have been eons better. For her birthday, she was given a free dessert (which was NICE of them); however, it was a creme brulee that was probably 1 cm thick. It was delish but just VERY little. While we appreciated the free dessert; we did desire some more after a few spoonfuls. Now, the service was the one thing (other than the crab cake) that left us disappointed. Our waiter didnt seem to want to give us much attention. We were not like the majority of the crowd, so we felt a little odd, like we didnt belong. The waiter seemed to REALLY visit our neighbors table of 4 women, smiling, joking, and laughing, then as soon as he came to us it was scoffs and smirks. Maybe that is his comfort zone, who knows? We just felt like if the service had been there, we would have REALLY enjoyed it and for sure would have liked to come back. Instead, we felt like we were bothering him, asking him for food and drink. Maybe it was an off day; just giving feedback on our experience. The salad was pretty good. We may go back and try things again, but will skip this crab cake from now on. Seems like reviews for the top crab cake in San Antonio, should be updated.

My husband and I were in San Antonio for two days earlier this week and had fabulous food for every meal. The day we left S.A. our kids wanted to treat us to a Mothers Day / Fathers Day lunch at Cappys, having read a review in Texas Monthly. Thats what brought us to Cappys. Our lunch was delicious. The Gulf Shrimp and Brussels were tasty. My husbands bowl of New Orleans Gumbo was chock full of seafood and okra and he loved it. I had the Southwest Chickpea and Veggie Salad. It was really good - chick peas, black beans, grilled asparagus, zucchini, tomatoes, red onions, bell pepper, etc. with a chipotle lime vinaigrette dressing. The jalepeno cheddar cornbread had toasted crackly edges - perfect with the salad. They were quite busy and it was HOT, so the lovely patio went unused. Would love to go again in better weather and take advantage of the outdoor space.

Cappys is great for a date night or special occasion dinner. We like to make reservations on OpenTable for Friday or Saturdays. Weve celebrated a birthday or two, Mothers Day, Fathers Day, etc. here. They have a full bar with some great specialty cocktails, select beers, and a nice wine selection. The only reason I am rating at a 4 instead of 5 is the price. $38 plate of salmon, vegetables, and mashed potatoes is a bit much. One crabcake for $20 as an appetizer is also fairly high. I do believe the atmosphere and setting, along with the tasty seafood make Cappys worth it for the occasional treat. Our favorite dishes are the Mustang Chicken, Out of the Blue (seafood fresh catch) and on weekends we love the eggs benedict and mimosas for brunch. All seafood dishes are delicious. They also make a great Old Fashioned, Manhattan, and Hot Toddy!

This is one of the best litter secrets in San Antonio. The prices are a little higher than most other restaurants, but this one has been around for many, many years. I was here with others in our party to discuss market strategies. Our server was. Ryan, who was very attentive, professional, and courteous. We were seated by one of the windows on the first floor. We did not have any appetizers and just opted for a main course and shared a dessert. I had a crusted mustard chicken, with mash potatoes and a vegetable medley. Others had scallops or chicken tacos. For dessert, we had the coconut pie. Yum! We could not have had a better evening dining. I hope your experience is as good as mine. Parking: There is parking along the side or the restaurant, and in the rear.

Then they come and tell my husband and I that they re so grateful we came to their restaurant on Friday night because we could have gone anywhere in San Antonio, that they paid for our appetizer - and want to also give us a dessert on the house!? Little did they know we were from out of town and had just come to San Antonio for our one year anniversary/babymoon trip/my birthday!!! It was so special and the best service I ve ever received. I did the ribeye with bone marrow butter. The ribeye was cooked perfectly. The bone marrow butter, although good, was not as life changing as I hoped but at no fault to the chef. This San Antonio classic was a revelation. Our party of 5 started the experience with spritzers, a mezcal cocktail and an elderflower iced tea. After hearing the specials, our group ordered one monte cristo as the appetizer. The monte cristo sandwich is reminiscent of croque monsieur (ham and Gruyère cheese) sandwiched between funnel cakes. Would definitely recommend getting this as an appetizer and not a main, very tasty but also very rich. 2/5 of the party ordered delicious crab cake mains with salads that were included. The spinach omelette was considered to be good but I think the crab cake and my ahi tuna Asian salad were by far the most delicious and balanced meals. The portions were generous and the expectations were exceeded. Finally, the coconut creme pie was to die for. I would recommend to anyone one who dines there. Our party will be returning back for more and since then we have already referred more to the restaurant.

Our server Maggie was very informative and helpful in selection of beverages and she presented the Chefs special for the day, atmosphere was good ,but the front entry way was wet due to rain...I walk with a crutch and did slip twice ,so I took smaller steps to secure my well being.

Food was great. Not sure why they dont list this place as a seafood restaurant as most of the offerings were that. We had grilled Pork Chop, Salmon, Mahi, Muscles, Shrimp and Scallops and all were prepared as well as I have ever had. Why not 5 stars. I dont want to hear a 3 min overview of off the menu specials. We overheard it with every customer near us. Post that on a board or menu card. Also the price was a bit much. Example, a serving of Salmon with mashed potatoes and sauteed vegetables shouldnt cost $39 in San Antonio. Another example is $17 for 8 cracker sized nachos. Their lunch menu seems to be more in line with pricing id expect.

One of the best brunch spots in San Antonio. The food is always delicious. Service is beyond reproach and the atmosphere casual but up scale. Our waiter today was Angel who suggested the short ribs special. As he said, always try the doecisl, we have the regular delicious special everyday. He was spot on. Try Cappy s , you won t be disappointed.

We had a great lunch, and Ryan was our server. He did a phenomenal job! Ryan was attentive, answered questions, and while he managed to stay busy with other tables, he was always there. Great Bourbon selection, and I thoroughly enjoyed their lobster and grilled cheese on sourdough. My wife had their steak frites and seemed to enjoy those, too! Overall, we had a wonderful experience. We live about 30 minutes away. When we are in the area, it will be a place we will go back to. Parking: We parked about 100 yards away in a shared business parking lot.

Good, not great. Had Eggs Benedict with crab cake. A friend said theyve experimented with different English Muffins. They need to keep experimenting as it practically took a steak knife to cut them. Drinks were good, but TINY.

We had our first date here 13+years ago and came back to celebrate our anniversary. Still just as tasty, special and great service. Peach sangria, fish tacos and lamb chops with chorizo and sweet potato hash were so full of flavor. The special desert of the day was an espresso mousse pudding. So.good!! Oh! And the bread was so delicious and warm and addicting! We could have just ate that and been completely satisfied. <3 Cant wait to go back but we wont wait 13 years this time. ;) Thank you for a special date night!

Food took long to arrive. Gumbo tasted off , reheated or like the bottom of the pot! Over cooked. They do Not make accommodations for a large group, so we had to tabulate each meal, it took a while and once we did that we heard a cheering from the back and kitchen! Like they were mocking us! My husband and I as well as and rest of our company will not be returning!!!!

I wanted to give Cappys a 5-star because I expected it to be 5-star. I was craving a crab cake and decided to Google best crab cakes in San Antonio. Cappys showed in the results. After reading the positive reviews, I ordered a crab cake to go. Upon arriving, many staff members passed by and didnt even acknowledge that I was standing there. Finally, a kind young African American lady (I didnt get her name) asked me if I had been helped, to which I replied, No. She quickly got another staff member to help me. I am BIG on customer service. Next, I get home excited about my crab cake just to open up my container to find a greasy, overcooked (tasted burnt) crabcake. Im not saying that I wouldnt give Cappys a second chance, but I was disappointed with my first experience.

The menu, ambiance, service and quality of food is not only outstanding but consistently so..We ve never been disappointed. Plus, Naomi makes the best martinis in SA!
