We really enjoyed our food but the waitress was a little busy and forgot us for a while. there was a new waitress on the floor that we asked to help us and she did. Our food sat up on the serving window for a good 10 minutes. I understand its hard to get people to work but the lady that was our waitress was supposedly the night manager.

Absolutely. My wife and I came down here to the Black Bear diner in San Antonio and absolutely loved it! I had the Volcano and it was delicious. David the chef was outstanding and made my wife a wonderful cheese omelette. My compliments to him. Our server Sylvia was very professional than the service she provided was outstanding. Highly recommend!!!

Waiter had attitude the entire starting when we asked if she could dry the seat and table that she just left wet when she wiped it down right before we were being seated. Eggs Benedict sauce was burnt. Waitress had attitude because we sent it back to the kitchen and asked for it to be remade.She had attitude throughout our service. Second eggs Benedict came out with bottom of eggs and ham burnt.

Yvonne was the best waitress theres ever been, but apparently she left about 6 weeks ago, what a shame, she was my main reason for stopping in! She even gave me a Trump pen the 1st time I stopped in here. You will never leave this place hungry, and the atmosphere is about as good as it gets! Super friendly staff here and well worth stopping in!!

My dish was the salmon. We had the best experience. The food was delicious and beautifully plated. 5 star food. And 5 star service. The host was so kind and welcoming. Nice hunters, Lodge style restaurant diner, interesting layout with things to buy. I was skeptical because it s kind of in a gas station, but the food s good. The biscuits were huge. It was well seasoned nothing to really complain about. our waitress with Sylvia, she started off a little push in rude but in the end, I guess things got better. I do try to eat and shop locally but a friend of mine ranted and raved about this so we went. We were lucky to get there when we did because by the time we left there was a line out the door. Theres your warning lol the food was very good, portions were good, service was great! Ive tried to eat here three times. First 2 times, I walked across the street to the Mexican place after waiting 15 minutes to get seated. There may have been 10 patrons in the restaurant both times. Tonight, well where to start. Seated after 5 minutes with only 3 patrons (not parties). Ok, no problem there. 15 minutes to be acknowledged. Waiter took order. Didnt bring me my drink. 10 minutes, salad came. No drink. Assistant manager walked by and asked how I was doing. Told her about the drink. She took off to grab it. 2 steps later she saw what Im guessing is a close friend. Hugged, kissed him and took his hand. Walked into kitchen just chatting away. Waiter brought me my plate and I had to remind him about my drink. He finally brought it. Dont blame him since he seemed to be new and overwhelmed. Took a bite of my turkey. Was so salty, it burned my mouth. I gave up and got up to pay. Assistant manager never even glanced my way. Went to pay. Told cashier what happened. His advice? Dont show up in the evening... I swore under my breath, but loud enough for him to hear. Why have a truck stop diner and nor expect truckers to have supper? Never again will I attempt to eat here. Its a shame since I have always planned my stops to include Black Bear Diners.

Ive eaten at this place 3 times now. My first experience was horrible. The old woman that pushes the cart to both deliver meals and clean tables without cleaning the cart (VERY bad sanitation protocol) was asked for shrimp and chips 3 times and she delivered fish and chips. I was not happy. Never want her serving me again. I stayed polite and ate the meal and left knowing I would never let her serve me again. With that in mind, I decided I would try again with a different server because the fish and chips was actually good even though it was not what I wanted and I really like the look of the restaurant (looks like the dining facility at a logging camp), really cool. I now go here when grandma isnt on the clock. My last two visits there I was served by Jaliyah. This young woman is such a delight. Excellent service, detail oriented, beautiful personality, I couldnt be happier. My order was exactly what I wanted, the way I wanted it, and it didnt take long (my thanks also to the food prep person). I live alone so making a mess to eat then having to clean up after eating is too much when there is only one so I look to places to eat when I dont want to cook (about 3-4 times a week). I get tired of burgers and sandwiches without naming names. The Black Bear Diner is my new restaurant of choice (if Grandma and the cart are there, I leave). They have a unique menu (a newspaper), very good variety of selections to choose from (its actually rather large), you will enjoy the food and everyone there really is doing good to keep it clean and enjoyable. Thanks to everyone, but my biggest thanks is to Jaliyah. Management should thank her for her service, she is keeping customers coming back while Grandma is running people off.

This restaurant needs to have better management. We were not acknowledged upon arrival despite 3 employees standing at the entrance. There were dirty tables everywhere and had employees standing around. The first table they tried to sit us at had water and food on the table. The restaurant looked like it needed a lot of attention. Brought food, no bread that was ordered, no silverware to eat with, no napkins. Asked for sugar-free syrup, was brought regular syrup. Everyone works last night was great!...But man this was the BEST fried shrimp Ive ever tasted in my life. Seasoned,juicy,thick and meaty. Fries were very delicious and seasoned as well. We have been to this location MANY MANY times and have never been disappointed. The food is the best breakfast I have had and the service is always top notch. We even bring our friends every chance we get. This location is pretty far for us to come from Poteet but we come anyway because it is that good. As a pretty big fan of the Old Iron Skillet (Before The Pandemic), it was hard to see it go. Ive been trucking for 34 years and Iron Skillet was a really bright spot if I had one on my route. I truly miss one of the best salad bars ever. The Black Bear is not bad. Im going to give them time to get settled into these new venues. The restaurant business is tough and we all need to give them a chance in this environment. I had the Bears Choice breakfast with two eggs, a choice of ham, bacon or sausage and pancakes, french toast, biscuits and gravy or a waffle. I chose the ham and pancakes. This break is $13.99. The two pancakes were huge, I mean huge. Both in diameter and thickness. Probably 10 inches in diameter. The ham steak, well it was 2 square but of good quality and flavor. My eggs came as ordered so no problem there except I believe they were made on the flattop not an egg pan so slightly scaly from high heat. All of this was served on one oval plate approximately 12 x 8. The pancakes were hanging off one side. No problem really. But... The maple pancake syrup was hot which was good. My personal opinion is that it seemed stingy on the protein and overbearing on the carbs. I would never serve this on one plate. Id like to see a larger ham steak and merely one pancake that size as I only ate one. But like I said, its new and training takes time. Ill surely return as they are most likely going to improve. Also, theres a trend in restaurants where someone seats you, gives you menus and beverages and then they are switched out to another person. This becomes confusing to a customer as to who their person is. This happened here. Plus I was near a shift change so there was a third person involved. LoL. I just never knew who my go to was at any point. I do like the atmosphere and decor. Its warm and welcoming.

We decided to give this place a shot. We were seated quickly. We sat for a bit and not a waiter or waitress in sight. One of the off duty waitress let the others know that we had been sitting for a bit. We finally have someone come over. After two of the waitresses started arguing with each other in front of customers. She took our drink order and our meal order. We never saw her again after that. Not until had to go up to the bar area and request a refill for my husband s drink. She finally comes back by asking if our food was good. I will say that the food was really good. The pancakes were my favorite. Hopefully they will figure out the wait staff issue for the next time we come.

My potatoes were completely burnt. I made a comment to the server and she didnt think anything of it so I had to keep them. I would never have served this plate to anyone. I would be embarrassed. The waitress was very nice, I will give her that. Thats why service got 2 stars rather than 1

First of all, have a seat yourself sign at the front if you take pride with this rule. Scolding another waitress in front of the waiting party, very professional. Secondly, if you want to talk badly about your customers, I get it, you have to vent. Worked in this industry, I know it s a pain. But when you (waitress) stand close by our table, raise your voice intentionally to make sure we can hear you loud and clear? Come on. Lol. Were you looking for a fight? Seems like it. Very classy. This specific location was a recommendation. Won t be back, won t recommend further. Do better for your future customers. And for the management responses claiming they ll assist and do better, don t bother. I saw the recent negative reviews on G, Y and fb. It was my fault I didn t check before. Just sharing some feedback for your future customers. Remediation isn t needed here. Thanks!

Their food is always delicious. Im glad they came to San Antonio. We tried them for the 1st time in Colorado back in 2021. We like Linda because she does a great job. Parking: Theres plenty of parking all around Wheelchair accessibility: They have a ramp at the entrance.

Busy place. Its nice to still have kitchens around like this. Menu is definitely diner. Great value on the plates of real food with down home 70s - 80s feel. Rustic an up to date at the same time. An the Servers were hustling all with a smile. Would recommend.

Great food. Clean restaurant. Very friendly service. I wanted the tri tips, but they were out. It probably means they were very good. Got the tomato soup and a chicken club. Both were delicious. The Papa Bear hot sauce is nice as well. Lots of flavor and a decent amount of heat. If you are near this chain and hungry stop to eat. Well worth it.
