A perfect place to have a great salad and not mention appetizers. My best friend took me to dinner around 6pm & we ordered the tuna stack to start off with and it was 10/10, so yummy! We ate at the bar for a more fun experience. For dinner I ordered the Thai Kai salad and it was a lot. It was delicious. The ladies at the bar were very helpful and friendly.

Do not recommend this restaurant. The prime rib is sub prime at best. Got notified by my credit card company that these guys received a 49% tip on the bill. For sure I wouldn t tip 49% on garbage food and sub prime service. Left a $15 tip but instead my credit card company informed me that it was a $38 tip. These people are clowns at best.

Review: J Alexanders La Cantera 17422 Fiesta Texas Dr, San Antonio, TX 78256 (This is outside the gates) If youre looking for exceptional service, look no further than Jose. As he puts it, he practically lives there and truly loves his job. Be sure to ask for him! Remarkably, we dont recall ever dining at this establishment before. My wife attended a work function where they served J Alexanders Carrot Cake. She couldnt stop raving about it, and naturally, I had to investigate. Now, onto the ratings: **Midnight Margarita (9):** Sweet and enjoyable; my wife preferred it over the spicy version. **Spicy Margarita (8):** A typical margarita with a hint of spice. It could have benefited from a couple of jalapeño slices and some chili tajin. **Coke Zero (9):** Just as expected, with the bonus of guilt-free refills. **Caesar Salad (8):** Crunchy lettuce, croutons, and Reggiano Parmesan. The dressing was excellent, though I d prefer a bit more anchovy flavor. **Hong Kong Shrimp (9):** Lightly breaded shrimp with a refreshing glaze not overpowering at all. Quite filling and thoroughly enjoyable. **White Bean Soup (9.5):** A delightful surprise! This Chefs Special was outstanding. After tasting a sample from Jose, we had to order a bowl, which came with a slice of cornbread. It was hearty, thick, and savory a must-try when its on the menu. **Slow Roasted Prime Rib (9):** Now let me preface that before this, Ive never had a restaurant allow me to order a larger sized prime rib beyond what they had printed on the menu. In this case, 12oz. Nope! We wanted 24oz, and it was worth it. Tbh, anytime Im in the mood for prime rib, J Alexanders is the spot I will go to. It was thick with light flat. The crust was salty and complimented each piece when drenched in au jus and creamy horseradish. It was so good, we went back and the second time days later. Love it! **Smashed Potatoes (8.5):** These potatoes had a hearty, organic feel. The serving was thick and satisfying, making it a filling side dish. Now the grand finally! --- **CARROT CAKE (9.5)** This in-house made carrot cake features pineapple, pecans, coconut, and freshly grated carrots, all topped with rich cream cheese icing. I absolutely loved it especially when heated for 15 to 30 seconds in the microwave. It rivals the Whiskey Cake, perhaps even surpassing it with its captivating flavors and moist texture. On our second visit, we ordered three slices! I even took a piece to a potential client, and they adored it. In summary, we thoroughly enjoyed our experience on both visits and look forward to returning in the future. See quick video review. This is a no for me. First, let me say that the service was impeccable. Our waitress was wonderful and I hope, if you go, you get her. She was 5 stars! The food, however, was not. The Steak Maui was so powerfully flavored (its marinated) that you couldnt taste the steak. What a waste of a ribeye - criminal. Also, it was a bit over. And, the prime rib was so tender that it was mush. So much so, that it wouldnt even stay on a fork. Meat, no matter how tender, needs to have some texture. This was kind of off-putting. The smashed potatoes were, by far, the best thing we ate. They did have a good selection of spirits and my Weller Full-Proof was delicious but, for some reason, was $2 more than the menu price. Ive had better food at a their lower-priced competitors. Im loath to say it, but a properly cooked ribeye from Texas Roadhouse would have been more satisfying. I cant help but feel that youre paying for the location and the ambiance as opposed to the food.

J. Alexanders is a good restaurant but not the best. The service is really good, but the menu is quite limited. I would recommend adding more appetizers. I had the burger, which was good, but the side of mac and cheese was simple. The mashed potatoes and queso were good. I have been to the one in Alamo Heights, which is way better and has a longer menu.

Went here on June 15th to celebrate Fathers Day and an engagement. Service was great until it wasnt... weve dinned here before and LOVED IT! However, I wish I could say that again. We ordered our food and our waiter asked if we wanted soup or salad. He made it seem as if it came with our meal. My fiancé and I were both confused as this was not offered last time, so we chucked up to maybe pur last server just forgot? NOPE! my fiancé doesnt eat salad, and we told the server he wont eat it, that it can be boxed, and Ill take it (because who passes on a free side). After we ordered our appetizer, I also put a meal in for our 14 month old so he could begin eating while we had our appetizer. The food comes and still no kids meal. Okay, maybe they needed to go grab it. NOPE! I asked for the meal to be removed since, at this point, we made do by sharing ours. I was handed the bill, after all said and done. Come to find out the salad was charged. While examining the bill, the server comes over and says he will box up the other salad and bring it out. At that point, I tried to tell him not to worry about it. He proceeds to bring the salad and a NEW BILL reflecting the salad... an item at which we told him many times we do not need at this point. Not only did I end up paying for salads we didnt need, but I received an incorrect salad at that, no kids meal when I ordered it. Very poor service and deceitful as he continued throughout the whole service to try to get us to buy more food items....... I have been a server myself, and I have NEVER tried to upsell without letting customers know something will be an upcharge.

Absolutely terrible experience. We have been several times and it keeps getting worse and worse. We had a reservation for 6:30 on a Friday night. We were hungry. It was busy but not packed by any means. Many open tables. No waitlist when we walked in. Got seated and waited. And waited, to even be greeted by our server. It was our anniversary which I had noted on the reservation. They gave us a happy anniversary card upon seating us which was great and thoughtful. Again took forever to even be greeted. We ordered drinks. I asked for my margarita martini to be rimmed with salt. Not sugar. I repeated It. Server repeated it back to me. It came out with sugar. I made due. When I ordered my next one I simply restated that I would like salt. Not sugar. And instead of acknowledging the previous mistake, just repeated my salt order back to me. I ordered a steak, medium rare. It came out 100% well done. They offered to make me a new one. At that point I asked if my potato could have no cheese or sour cream as well. Steak came out with my potato LOADED with cheese. I asked them to correct it. They finally did. With barely more than a simple I m sorry . Many servers including our own visited our table without removing dirty plates that we had clearly set to the edge as we were done with them. One even touched the plate and didn t remove it. It wasn t until the server had run our card and we were completing the ticket when the server saw our anniversary card on the table and offered to comp our dessert and rerun our card. - 100% weird and awkward at that point. The entire staff seemed like they were just bumbling along the entire night. Sad to say we won t be back.

This location does not compare to the one at The Quarry. I had the Cypress salad which was okay but not for $19. The Brasserie Chicken was served with cold mashed potatoes and was a dish I would expect from a chain restaurant like Olive Garden. The service was fine. Bottom line, for the quality and the prices, we have too many other choices that are much better. I guess I will have to drive to the Quarry for a better meal.

He was always ready to help us, filling our drinks at the perfect time, his attitude and demeanor was so gracious and exactly how a waiter should be. He was a 20 out of 10 waiter! I d come back just for his service. The food was amazing as well! I got the rib eye with couscous, hubby got the ribs with the Mac and cheese and tequila beans (which Gavin recommended) and OMG!! The food had such a home feel to it!! So comforting and flavorful Gavin brought my husband a piece of carrot cake for his bday .. and when Gavin said it s the best carrot cake in San Antonio, he wasn t lying!! It was amazing! I d come back again and again to be served by Gavin. The ambiance was so nice and clean and romantic! Best experience I ve had in a very long time!

I was really surprised at how poor our visit was. Party of 10. Reservations. Seated at a table that should hold 8. Steaks were not good. 2 of our 6 were ordered med rare, and they were well done and dry. Waiter was no where to be found. No refills on water. Simple things like butter took us 2 and 3 times to ask for before we received them. No sense of urgency or service. I will not be booking anymore business dinners here. I spent the whole night apologizing. We were never even acknowledged by the waitstaff. One of the worst service experiences in a high end restaurant. D+

As hostess of a large business dinner, I could not have been more embarrassed by the food or the service. Despite our reservation for 10, our table was far too small for our party which only ended up having 9, so much so that we couldnt even slide close to the table. Two of our guests had to send their food back for completely incorrect treatment of their meats. The first is a very easy going man but his pork was completely overcooked, which they corrected. The second specifically requested no butterfly on her medium steak. They did anyway, and her steak was like cardboard. So she sent it back. Her second steak was also butterflied, but at least edible. So she gave up and just ate it. I had ordered a baked potato with butter only and even joked about wanting butter with a side of butter. It came out plain and burned on the inside. I had to request butter two times before the waiter brought out a small amount of butter and, by the time it came, my potato was so cold that the butter didnt even melt. When the waiter whispered the dessert options to me and my husband, we asked him to announce to the table, as we were hoping to suggest some group desserts. Instead, he walked to about half of our guests, and since they turned him down for an individual dessert, he simply told us no one wanted any and offered the check. The waiter never even refilled our empty water glasses. Finally, as the dinner was winding down, the wait staff was making so much noise over in the bar that it interrupted our conversation twice. This was an important dinner for us, and we assumed J Alexander would be a sure and safe bet. We will not make that mistake again.

This was our first visit to J. Alexanders. It is a great looking place with a large bar. we only live about 2 miles from the restaurant so it was something that we wanted to try. We came about 5:00 p.m., not too many people in the restaurant, and had a nice window booth. The young lady at the front had a little difficulty with with the device used to check people in and seat them., lol. Our waitress was a pleasant young lady named Jacqueli. My wife started with wonderful Lemon drop Martini, $17.00. Not on menu. Excellent. I drank Topo Chico, which I enjoy. As our appetizer, we had the Tuna Stack, $18.00, as our appetizer and that was wonderful. It is a round tower layered in ahi tuna, fresh crab salad, cucumbers and comes with warm tortilla crackers. This is an appetizer we will eat again. Excellent. I had the wedge salad, $8.00, which is basically a quarter of iceberg lettuce with blue cheese dressing and bacon bits. Unfortunately, the lettuce was soggy and not crisp. The bleu cheese was a bit overwhelming. I have had better. For entrees, my wife had the 16 oz prime rib, medium, and I had the 14 oz ribeye, medium, $43.00 and $45.00, respectively. My wife had the Mac and Cheese as a side and was hoping for green beans also, but unfortunately they dont have green beans. She was given Tequila Beans, $7.00. Basically, a barbecue beans with a little liquor in it. My side was a loaded baked potato. Starting with her Prime Rib, she had to give it back because it came out at best cool though the au jus was warm. The manager brought it back and it seemed better. My steak was medium rare, not medium. I am uncertain how it was cooked, but the seasoning had a definitive smokiness to it and was tasty, but the steak itself was warm at best, no char, and chewy, even the cap on the ribeye, the tenderest part, was chewy. I did not send it back. As for the loaded baked potato, well, the potato wasnt hot enough to melt the cheese of butter that came with it. Oh, well. As for desserts, there is no dessert menu. They have only three; carrot cake, a chocolate cake with chocolate ganache, and a key lime pie. My wife and I took home a rather large piece of carrot cake which my older children enjoyed. Service comments, my wifes water was not topped off at any time, nor did anybody ask me if I would like another Topo Chico. We had to ask for bread. We had to ask for plates to be removed from the table and for forks. Not counting the tip, the total cost for the meal with everything was about a $171.00. By the way we dont skimp on tips for any reason. Since this was our first time here, I think we will be back in the future; however, we will stick with the seafood on the menu. Hopefully, all will be more in line with the cost of the meal.

We ordered a round of drinks prior to some friends joining and took over 20 min. To get our drinks. Ordered the ahi tuna salad and hubby ordered the ribeye with baked potato which was all decent tasting. Food came out quickly but our server didnt follow up with us. It took her 18 min. Before checking in. I also told her I disliked the drink I ordered and she never offered to replace it. Questions about the menu were asked and her responses led us to believe that she is unfamiliar with the different cuts of meat. Also, she couldnt recommend a good seafood dish because she doesnt eat seafood. This place is overrated and service truly needs some improvement. Dont leave a waiter in training alone.

I have patronized J.Alexanders many times before... Tonight was abysmal. Our waitress was flippant about items on the menu and with her service to our table. We had guests with us that had never gone to this restaurant... so they asked questions about certain items on the menu, and the responses we got were not encourageable. She couldnt explain the difference between a ribeye and a New York strip. Nore what made the Steak Maui different from the grilled ribeye. There was about 30 minutes where we would never see her. The drinks we ordered took about 30 minutes to get to us. I ordered the barbecue ribs which tasted awful. There was something about the taste it tasted like when someone blows charcoal dust on your food. It tasted very gritty. I was very disappointed in the quality of the food. Its sad to say that you can get better ribs at Lupe Tortilla a Mexican restaurant, than this place. Other members of our party had the brasserie chicken and it was so salty it was uneatable. The salad our guests had was disappointed in the lack of substance... I apologize I was more focused on the fact that our waitress just never was around... Our other guests did have the ribeye and he said it was delicious. I will say that Ive had the ribeye before and its the best thing to order at this restaurant. Our waitress never stopped by to ask how the food was, she never stopped by to ask if we wanted more drinks. We had to publicly reach out to her to even get her to notice our table. Its my encouragement to the management that Trinity needs more education from her management to be successful as a waitress at a restaurant of this caliber. I was very disappointed tonight and Im not sure when Ill give this restaurant another chance.

Disappointing Transition: J. Alexanders Misses the Mark As a longtime patron of Redland, I was eager to experience the transition to J. Alexanders. Unfortunately, my recent visit left much to be desired. I opted for a classic choice, the hamburger, only to receive it raw. Though promptly replaced, the burger lacked the signature flair and personality expected from J. Alexanders. While the customer service at the bar was commendable, the overall experience fell short of representing the J. Alexanders brand. With hopes for improvement, I look forward to seeing the restaurant reach its full potential in the future.

Food was great, staff was doing an amazing job considering the truly terrible situation they were in. Big shout out to our server Gavin, the staff at the bar, and the hostesses especially. The one star review is for the owner or manager who thought it was ok to massively overbook the restaurant on Valentines Day. We waited for an hour in the lobby, despite having a reservation, and that lobby was PACKED with people in the same situation. That was so unfair to everyone who planned ahead and tried to have a special night out, and even worse for the staff that we watched getting berated by upset guests. I probably wouldnt have left this review if it hadnt been mentioned to us that the owner or manager intentionally allowed more than the usual amount of reservations because hes competitive. I have a feeling he wasnt there dealing with the result, and his team deserves better.

Post Holiday Shenanigans This year my company decided to expand our reach in San Antonio and ventured a little further out for our Post Holiday Meal. After a few other site visits, I decided to request this venue because of the size of the upper area that could house around 60 plus guests. I conducted a site visit of the venue and was greeted by the hostess station and spoke with the manager Archie. He gave me a walkthrough of the space and after a few phone calls back and forth, and a secured reservation, we arrived on Saturday evening for our event. The cold outside had us huddling around the bar, while more guests arrived, but the bartender had the spirits flowing to get our party started. I highly recommend the strawberry virgin mojito. When about 15 guests were in the bar area, the hostess led us to our area, where the menus were laid out, candles were lit and the lights were dimmed to set the mood. The Jazz music in the background was lowered just enough for light conversations among friends. The staff was SPECTACULAR and Id like to highlight the teamwork and leadership of Marlysa, Alicia, Nya and Christopher. They were ready and willing to assist our larger party and had drinks out within minutes. Because of the interstate construction, many of our party goers were running behind, so we ordered chips for the tables. While I understand inflation, we all agreed that $15 for two handful of chips was a bit much, but enjoyed the fresh tomato salsa and queso. The guests started arriving and the food orders were received in a quick and orderly fashion. Our wait staff stayed near and ensured all guests were taken care of and the night was running smoothly. My boyfriend and I ordered the New York Steak and Macaroni and Cheese, as well as, the Barbecue Baby Back Ribs with the orzo and wild rice and fries. While orders came out correctly, my fries were cold, and I did get a few complaints about inaccurate temperatures on the steaks. ( menu stated they would try to cook as close to customers request) We knew that a larger party would be a bit hard and I applaud the chefs in the kitchen for putting out the orders accurately and quickly. I had to move the star power down one because of the comments about the food, but all in all, I surveyed laughter, an attentive staff and food disappearing off of plates. My ribs were delicious and I was pleased with my sides and my babe enjoyed his meal. All in all, we had a terrific event. The restaurant was packed and still pumped out food to new arriving guests. Highly recommended, just know for a group of 40+ its going to be a pretty penny and Archie your staff were wonderful! The Culture of teamwork was displayed all night :) Ms. Islandgal29412

Subject: A Wonderful Dining Experience at J. Alexanders in San Antonio I recently had the pleasure of dining at J. Alexanders located at 17422 Fiesta Texas Dr, San Antonio, TX 78256, and I must say it was an absolutely delightful experience. The ambiance at J. Alexanders is quiet and relaxing, providing the perfect setting for a pleasant and enjoyable evening. Unlike some places where you need to raise your voice to have a conversation, here you can enjoy a quiet meal without any need for yelling. The warm decor is inviting, striking a perfect balance that adds to the overall dining experience. Our server, Michela, was truly superb. Her attentiveness was remarkable, ensuring that our needs were met without ever being intrusive. Michelas bubbly personality added a wonderful touch to the evening, and it was evident that she genuinely enjoys what she does. She effortlessly answered all our questions and provided excellent suggestions, enhancing our overall dining experience. As for the food, we opted for the Tuscan steak with a side of street corn, and it was nothing short of fabulous. The steak was cooked to perfection, showcasing the culinary expertise of the chefs at J. Alexanders. The street corn, in particular, stood out as the best weve ever had a delightful combination of flavors that left a lasting impression. In conclusion, our visit to J. Alexanders was truly memorable, thanks to the serene ambiance, outstanding service from Michela, and delectable dishes. I highly recommend this establishment to anyone seeking a top-notch dining experience in San Antonio.

Hostess or front desk in the name SOFIA/SOPHIA was pretty rude and came across attacking me as if she was doing me a favor to come in to eat here. She over talked to me and didn t let me explain anything before she told me there was no tables available for my party. She kept speaking over me again as if she was doing me a favor. Next time breathe a lil & approach people with manners. Thank you for shooing us away would not consider coming back after this.

We have always loved J Alexander s consistently good food but tonight was extra special. Everything was over the top, even the Alex salad that we get all the time. The salad was super cold and served on more dressing than usual, and it was better than it s ever been. Usually there is very little dressing. We split the prime rib and ordered broccoli and street corn. All were superb. Seriously good.

This was my first time dining at this location of J. Alexanders and was not disappointed! J. Alexanders has always had an impressive menu, providing many options for all palettes! My Mom and I stopped in for a late lunch after leaving La Cantera and were immediately seated in a booth by the window. The views at this location are great because it sits up on a hill almost parallel to the Eilan Hotel and is so much brighter and open than the Quarry location. We started with the Mexico City Spinach con Queso and Alexs Salad, which were both absolutely delicious! We then shared the Brasserie Chicken and when I say it was large enough for two people, I am not kidding! We each got 2 small cutlets of chicken with a huge scoop of their smashed potatoes, it was more than enough to feed us both and still take some leftover! Overall such a great experience and great service as always with the J. Alexanders group!

I drive 46 miles round trip to eat here and it s worth it. Food is wonderful, service is outstanding and the place seems like home. Staff helps out with other tables besides their own so that you feel comfortable and can enjoy your meal. Archie is the GM and has trained his staff well. XO is a wonderful waitress, started as a hostess and greeted us when we showed up. Now is training new waitstaff. Ask for her, she will treat you like royalty. Now if something does not go well with your meal, be patient and let them know. They will always make it right. Not too many places that can give you service and food that is five star. Also if it s daytime ask for them to light the candle at your table, makes it special and romantic. Wheelchair accessibility: Plenty of room to get in and out. Walker or wheelchair, I have never had trouble getting to the table or restroom. They can also leave the walker or wheelchair close to you but out of the way if you are in a booth or in a table chair. Also enough space between tables so no one is going to bump into you going by.

Took over 25 minutes to get our drinks. When we got our food the fries were cold for both my husband and our friends. We told the server all the fries were cold and they only brought my husband fresh fries. Needless to say our friends weren t left with a good impression of J Alexanders. Lesson learned to sit at the bar only.

This was one of the worst dining experiences we have ever had. My husband and I love J Alexander s and go two to three times a month for date night. We took our aunt and uncle tonight and the service could not have been worse. Did not offer a seasonal menu even when we asked, we did not get what we ordered. Since it took over a half an hour to receive our food we said we would eat what we received. I asked to speak to the manager and explained all that went wrong he brushed it off and said he hopes to see us back for our normal date nights. A bad server can really make or break your experience so sad because the manager did not offer to make anything right and we probably won t be back.

Took my wife for dinner and ordered the fire roasted artichoke which were very underwhelming. My wife order the Tuscan steak, a new York strip with rosemary and citrus I believe. It came to the table sliced and was cooked to a nice medium rare. The presentation side looked perfect. As you bit into the steak there was a crunch to it. We turned the steak over and it was charred black on the bottom. Like they set it on a 700 degree falt top and burnt it. I ordered the Maui ribeye and have to say it was one of the leanest ribeyes I have ever had. Almost as if they were serving select beef. The steak had a glaze on it that really over powered the beef. All in all it wasnt too bad. Disappointed in the cut of beef for the price they charge. Smashed potatoes left a bad taste in your mouth. The starch in the potatoes made them seem gummy and visually unappealing. Service was great. Our server was attentive enough, but also gave us enough space and time to enjoy ourselves. Love the fact that they practice silent service which is something that has been lost in the industry. At the end of the meal the server removed the steak from the bill and brought a carrot cake to share. Probably the highlight of the evening. It was not a dense cake and it was served heated. As soon as you touched it with a fork it would fall apart, which may seem like a bad thing but in this case it was perfection. At no time did a manager come by and touch the table. Disappointing considering the price point. They definitely were not too busy to make it out to the table, just shows a lack of concern for guest satisfaction.

But could have had the same quality food at pretty much any chain restaurant for 1/4 the price. We had 5 people in our party and not one person had anything great to say about the food. Unfortunately it seems most restaurants are heading in this direction. Steaks were over cooked and shrimp mediocre.

I love this place. Over the course of the year, I have tried almost everything on the menu. My favorites are Roasted Chicken Salad, Thai Kai Salad, and their Wedge Salad is the best I ever tried. One time I was running late to pick up my order, and they graciously made me a fresh salad instead of the one that was waiting for over an hour for pick up. I also recommend both Old Fashioned and Double Stacked Burgers. All of their soups are pretty flavorful and their desserts are divine. However, I would recommend only ordering steaks and other meats if you enjoy a vide variety of meat doneness. It is even said on the menu that the doneness is not guaranteed. I personally had steaks and pork tenderloins from raw to well done range. A couple of times I even took meat home to cook some more. One time it was Filet Mignon, which they cooked twice and still couldn t get it to medium well. However, it was a very thick piece, and as they explained to us, it was because of the type of grill they have. Second time, it was a Pork Tenderloin a apricot glaze that was completely raw inside. I didn t ask them to cook twice I just took it home and cooked some more. Also they arbitrarily throw a bunch of onions on dishes here and there, so I always say No Onions even for the dishes that don t list onions on the list of the ingredients. Even with these quirks, I love this place just the same and highly recommend it. I just wanted to share my experience and what to be prepared for to prevent disappointment.

I made a reservation for my birthdaywe were seated promptly and in a timely manner. Our server took our drink orders and when drinks arrived only 2 out of 7 drinks came, we ordered appetizers then waited about another 10 mins for the other 5 drinks to arrive. Once they arrived we placed entree orders, one of my guest tasted her drink and it did not taste as described by the waiter but he never came back to check on the table. I went to the host stand to ask for him, and he appeared before I reached it and came and changed the drink order as requested and she also asked for a water . Our food arrived, the food runners were awesome and attentive. At this point our server did not return to check on how our food was or to refill water as requested prior to the food arrival. We ordered a medium rare steak that was actually cooked a little more than medium and someone also ordered a well done steak that was medium (we saw this could not be guaranteed so this was fine). The server finally arrived to refill our waters and the two people with issues with their food spoke to him and he took the plates back to the kitchen, once the food came back a lady brought them who I presume was a manager and she asked my guest to cut into their steak to ensure it was cooked correctly which it was, but at this point in the meal everyone else at the table was already done with their food so we had to request a to go box for the two guests who had to have their food remade. Once we received our checks we asked about the 18% gratuity that is automatically applied..the menu states it is discretionary but the waiter replied to us that it s automatically applied to parties 6 or more and did not adjust it. This was my first time visiting the restaurant and to say it was an underwhelming experience is an understatement. There was no sense of urgency from staff, the restaurant wasn t busy but we had to get up more than once to ask for items, even a straw for our alcoholic drink. Nothing about this visit would make me want to re visit this establishment or any other they own, If this is the service that is to be expected. Vegetarian options: They have veggie burgers offered as a vegetarian option

Had reservations for my son s birthday. Checked in for our birthday dinner reservation. Verified with hostess they understood this and communicated to server. We had a party of 9 so they automatically added 20% gratuity for sub par service added with an unacceptable attitude. Treated us like we were a problem and the server had no desire to have us as her guest. Which is unacceptable but let s not forge she is getting tipped no matter what a full 20 PERCENT. We waited 40 mins after ordering our food to get our food. When my son ordered his dessert they simply told him- we already put the desserts up. At no point was anyone offered dessert. When we checked in and made the reservation we understood they would bring the birthday boy a dessert and the whole reason he chose this place was because he wanted the carrot cake. They processed to leave us sitting there with a dirty table while we waited another 20 minutes for our bill (with 20% added). Unacceptable DISAPPOINTING. RUDE! My son left with zero acknowledgment of his birthday or his carrot cake he was looking forward to. No apologies. No one cared. Also forgot to mention my crab cakes tasted like a new car smells so I did not eat my dinner and did not complain bc we were there to celebrate my son. So also paid for an uneaten meal. Server had no concern about anyone s food or needs at any time anyway. If she even noticed a full plate was not eaten she did not care to even address it.

Once all of our friends arrived, we were seated witout any wait! I ordered The (210) cocktail. It was really good, but just a bit on the sweet side for my taste. For the entre I had the tuna with orzo and wild rice. The tuna was cooked perfectly medium rare. The whole meal was delicious. The portion was much smalled than your usual restaurant (not complaining, just an observation) which allowed us to indulge in a delightful key lime pie for desert. We dont usually have desserts due to how full we are after most meals. The pie was tart and not too sweet. Overall it was a great experience and would recommend it to anyone.

Im torn writing this, but gave it a few days to make sure its coming from the right place and state of mind. We went for our two year anniversary, did a reservation online the week before and that part was smooth. We got there 30 minutes early and they were more than accommodating and got us seated and the hostesses were very nice (we advised we were early and if needed to wait we would, but they said it wasnt an issue). Were seated, and a server approaches, says hes not our waiter, that shell be with you shortly, but I wanted to get your drink order started, which was polite and team oriented so we were ok. Server takes our table card that says its our anniversary and comes back with drinks shortly after. Then another server comes and asks if were ready to order. I dont remember them introducing themselves in retrospect. We needed a moment since the change in servers threw us off a bit and we wanted to try different dishes, but ordered the spinach con queso which was very nice. We ordered the prime rib and the Maui ribeye, which the ribeye was properly cooked (medium rare) and my prime rib (which I hadnt had in at least a decade) was cooked medium though seemed colder than Id expect, though the flavor was lacking without the au jus. It seemed that for a while our server was no where to be found, our drinks were empty, and when he finally came back he asked us if we needed anything and I asked if we would please get drink refills and he seemed like he was shocked Id ask for our glasses to be refilled (diet coke, unsweet tea, and a water). I felt like something was just causing everything to be awkward and I couldnt understand why. He offered us dessert with our Togo boxes and we got the chocolate cake with ganache which was very delicious. I guess the issue/frustration I have, and its likely an unrealistic expectation to compare one location to another, but it is that this visit was meh. I think the earlier interactions of the evening were inconsistent and just made the experience less than what wed expect. When we had gone to the Quarry location for a half anniversary (as my girlfriend called it) the server acknowledged the anniversary and even went above and beyond to put a candle on our cake/dessert, which they didnt have to do, but it was a nice touch. I think in the end, the special occasion we had come to celebrate, did not feel very special, and thats why my rating is not as high as it usually would be.

This was not my first time with the brand but it was for this location. This location is brand new and you can notice it since everything is well thought. Decor is more modern than the Quarry one. Everything from the restrooms, the staff and service has the wow factor. Food is delicious as always and very tasty. Definitely coming back. Well done!

Great atmosphere and servers were super nice. 2 stars. The steaks were terrible. My filet had a chewy piece of tissue that should never be found in a tenderloin. Wifes steak Maui was so hard she couldnt eat it and sent it back. Stay away from their steaks.

It was alright, I got prime rib MR, felt like it came out cold and more rare than medium rare. I got two lemon drop mojito and the first one tasted like straight mojito no lemon, the second one was just eh. This is my favorite restaurant ever and we ve ordered the same items but last night was not the best. Atmosphere was good, service was nice but food could have been better. Parking: Lots of room to park

Another great dining experience at J Alexanders San Antonio. Our most recent experience was on 2/5/23 where we dined with our daughter and son-in-law. We had a reservation and upon arrival were promptly seated in the dining room. Shortly after being seated our server, Benjamin arrived and welcomed us to the restaurant. Benjamin was fairly new but you would have thought he was a seasoned server. He was courteous, professional, and very attentive with his duties. Thanks Benjamin for a job well done. You are a role model for other servers to follow. Finally, a thank you goes out to J Alexanders General Manager, Archie for being a great leader and hands-on manager in the restaurant. Thanks again for always being consistent with your service, food, and atmosphere.

Now J.Alexander, I will definitely stick with The Quarry Location. This location is not managed well. Waited for our waiter several times we have to flag down another waiter just to get refills and other things. The food was brought out cold because the whole staff of waiters and waitresses were huddled up in front of the kitchen area chatting. Where was the manager did he or she see this or always let this go on. The staff at The Quarry definitely works harder.

Very nice inside. We sat at the bar due to the long wait for regular dining, which was fine because we enjoy that environment too. The drinks were good, pricey of course. We were bummed that the pork tenderloin was out, but we definitely want to try it next time. I had the steak and fries and asked for medium well but it came out extremely overly well done. It was dry and hard to chew so not the best meal. I d expect more for a restaurant with this reputation. Still looking forward to coming back and trying other meals.

Im not going to lie, I was disappointed with my steak. Shouldve stuck with my trusty ribeye and I made the mistake of going lean with the strip steak...wont happen again. After discussing their note on the menu witg the waitress about how they will not recommend or guarantee any meat ordered medium-well or above, I ordered my steak medium, and it was pretty much Medium-well to well. Couldve been the cut, but it just was not as juicy (is juiceless a word?) and tender as a $40 steak should be, but I wasnt paying so... n the bright side, the mac n cheese was absolutely delicious, highly recommend it! We did order a side of fries which were amazing as well as the Mexico spinach queso dip which was also a hit. The table was split with half ordering salads (Thai Kai & Southern) and seemed pleased with them. Mom raved about the burger and my niece was happy with her roasted chicken (w au jus?). Alll in all its a lovely place which verges on elegant but still casual. Great attentive server who timed out food, appetizers perfectly to match everyones arrival, conversations, etc. Id like to come back and try something else off their varied menu. On a side note, it was funny the discussion we had leading up to our meal was how this location had opened up as REDLANDS Grill maybe a year ago, and now has quietly removed all REDLANDS signage and replaced w J Alexander. Then we get our plates emblazoned with...you guessed it...REDLANDS. Identity crisis?

Oh man everything we ate here was amazing. I had a hard time deciding between a couple of dishes and our waitress was incredibly helpful at breaking the tie and the dish was amazing. The dessert was also just sinful. While its not a cheap date night it was totally worth it and well be back for sure.

Always enjoy going to Js. Kid-friendliness: I would suggest leaving your kids at home. Not a large kids menu. Service is catered towards a nice, enjoyable pace and most young kids will have a hard time with the duration of the visit.

Stopped by for coffee and dessert to check out this restaurant after shopping. Had the French Press Coffee and carrot cake, both were excellent. All employees we met were very courteous and friendly. Also had a nice chat with the G.M. Archie. We will be back for a complete dinner next time we are in town. The Montgomery Brothers Kerrville, TX

I love the location. The decor. The food. However the service was horrible. In my opinion too many ppl not communicating. We ordered two Alex salads with crispy Nashville chicken. We received one with and one without. I took them an hour to resolved the issue. When it finally arrived no sauce on site. No waitstaff either. Overall the food was worth giving it another try. Hopefully the second time goes much better and this becomes one of our favorite places to dine.

Party of 4, went for dinner on Xmas eve. Late seating as only reservation available was 8pm. Our waitress was very nice but new, she mentioned she was a hostess. Table was not set, food showed up and we had no silverware, she didnt noticed it so we had to ask for it, then brought it on a platter, had to ask for napkins and bought us cocktail paper ones as she couldnt find the others. Eventually brought us full size cloth ones, the food was delicious my prime rib was excellent and the potatoes were amazing!

Having lived in San Antonio for 16 years and having dined at J. Alexanders in the Quarry too many times to count, we naturally had high expectations. The fact that they now accept reservations is huge to us! Perhaps it took a pandemic for this industry to realize that packing a lobby for an hour plus waiting for a table is probably a bad idea. Anyway, our table (booth) was ready upon arrival. I loved that there were coat hooks available. The atmosphere is very nice with piped in piano music. Having said that, its not stiff. Its very comfortable. A male server came over quickly after our arrival and didnt introduce himself but tried to take the drink order. We werent ready yet and he left. A few minutes later, a young lady appeared to follow up on our drink order and she didnt introduce herself either. But I asked. She got us started with a bottle of wine. We were not in a hurry and enjoyed our wine for 20 minutes or so and she came back and took our dinner order. By this time, there were still no utensils on our table. After about 20 minutes, our food all arrived correctly. However, none of the servers (that delivered our food) noticed we had no utensils until I pointed it out. A minute or so later our server reappeared and asked if the food was correct and how it looked. It looked terrific but we needed utensils! She quickly left and reappeared in a minute or so with a fork and steak knife only. No napkins! I pointed that out and she reappeared with a few paper cocktail napkins. That was really unacceptable in a restaurant of this caliber. I kindly said to her that wed really like cloth napkins. She understood and left. We dug into our food and it was delicious! The prime rib was wonderful but we had to ask for horseradish. Thats normally something that comes with prime rib. A few minutes later our server appeared with cloth napkins. I was having the ribs and I appreciated having more than a cocktail napkin to wipe my fingers on. I was brought a bowl for the bones but no handywipe for cleanup. When our wine glasses were empty, we werent offered more wine. I asked for more and a few minutes later it appeared. Our plates were cleared away and our server asked about desert and I ordered their famous Key-Lime pie. It didnt disappoint! We will certainly come back. The food was typical J. Alexanders (delicious) and the atmosphere very nice. However, hopefully management will see this review. At no time (in the two plus hours we were there) did I see a front of house manager walking around the dining room. If there had been one, I believe napkins and utensils would have been delivered either before or with the food. And hopefully they would have noticed the empty wine glasses. So, a little fine-tuning might be warranted. Other than that, very nice and we had a lovely Christmas Eve.
