My first time going after seeing several people recommend it. I ordered the Philly cheese steak 6 inch with fries. It had good flavor on the Philly cheese steak but I didnt like that there was little meat on the cheese steak. It was very discouraging. However, the French Fries were great. I probably will not visit again. The restaurant was very warm inside. I was sweating as I ate. Could of been cooler inside. I wont return. I think this was a 1 trip time.

Good food, but the prices were high and the portions were a bit small meat wise on the pepperoni pizza philly I got. The taste was good but not anything mind blowing. I do reccomend the philly fries those were tasty though and I did appreciate the selection of fountain drinks. Inside the resturaunt the temperature was pretty hot which wasnt so comfortable given the August weather. Probably wont return but its worth a visit.

Food was great! It s a down and dirty type place that watches their costs of napkins like a hawk. I don t fault them for that in this economy. Floors are sticky and need to be mopped with a clean mop. I didn t go there for atmosphere but just for a good cheesesteak, in which case they delivered. I ll go back for sure and order to go with plenty napkins in my car.

Ive been going to Freds for years now. Im not sure what some of these other reviewers are experiencing.....but customer service couldnt have been better today! Fred s is the only restaurant I ve ever been to that has refused to give us extra napkins. My wife only got one with her meal and I got two. When I asked for extra they literally gave me ONE more. I said I m going to need more than that and they actually said NO!! It s restaurant policy not to give extra napkins!! My wife and I were only allowed 2 napkins each for our $30 worth of sandwiches. It s completely unacceptable and frankly insulting to be told no when you ask for napkins. This place has gone downhill. The chairs and tables look like they were purchased at a garage sale. They only sell soft drinks from a local vendor and they taste horrible. Find someplace else to get your Philly s because Fred s isn t worth going to.

I stopped in here today because my co-worker raved about this place because Im a Jersey girl and often went to Philly for cheese steaks I was skeptical, upon walking in I saw all the Philly memorabilia and a patron let me know that the owner was from Philly so that was comforting. The menu is full of gems but I was there to try the Philly cheesesteak rolls and they were phenomenal . I will definitely be back to try the sandwich everyone in there seemed to be enjoying their food. But the extra charges that they Place upon you for certain things is just insulting and ridiculous theres a sign behind the counter that says we will charge you an extra $3 if you walk up to the counter on your phone now taken yes being on your phone trying to get a service is rude I work in customer service that happens to me all day but thats their prerogative theres also a sign the states that sauce is extra so I assume they meant that cheese sauce or the Cajun sauce that they had .I ordered four Philly cheesesteaks an order of sweet potato fries once my number was called I went to the window to pick up my order and I asked for ketchup and a fork as the young lady hands me my fork and my ketchup she says to me for next time we have to charge you for the sauce and I said I didnt get sauce I got ketchup for my fries she goes thats a sauce why in the hell would a place be charging for ketchup? add it into your overhead. I didnt ask for extra ketchup I didnt ask for five ketchups asked for one ketchup for the french fries that I ordered ketchup doesnt come with your French fries I think thats ridiculous but kudos to the food, fresh hot, and delicious

The last 2 times I went in I was given such a hard time by the older black man who looks like Rickey smiley. Last time he got smart when I asked what comes on a specific Philly and asked me if I could read. But yesterday I said hello and started with my order. The man looks over to someone sitting at a table and says she steady talking and my computer ain t even up and running While they laughed about it. I justwalked out, I ain t never coming back. Always the best food made right then and there! Great service every time! You cant go wrong here! Oh bring napkins and if you order a drink ask for a lid. They seem to never give you a lid when you get a drink. Also you only get 1 or 2 flimsy napkins so take some of your own. True story! Over all great place great food great staff!

I ordered for pickup as Ive done previously and waited IN STORE for about 5-10 minutes. My order had special instructions and instead of telling me that they couldnt do it or having me pay the extra fee they just made the food how they wanted. Ive had ZERO issues with the exact same request previous times, they just do an upcharge. I have the receipts. So Ive wasted money on food Im not going to eat. Horrible Experience Consumers Beware !!!!!!!!! This place was the worst experience in my life in Plano region Resturants, simply put - they had me waiting for 30mins for my order of 3 combos for the family. After watching countless people recieve there orders before mine, I simple asked the lady for a full refund....... That took another 15mins because the African American Owner was trying to be petty - how do I know ??? Well after dabbling on my phone for 15mins I finally look up to see the Owner mentioned above just looking at me with Murderous Eyes Shaking his head slowly while giving me the Thug-Life Death Stare & making others sandwiches. I spoke up loudly & said Are you ready to issue my refund yet..........How much longer will it be Sir He then disappears out of sight, then one of his female employees finally comes up & says he says to give you a refund out of the drawer .......Originally she gave me a ticket prior saying here is your refund - I said No Madam I paid in Cash - point in case me having to wait that additional 15mins extra just for my refund Now people were looming at me in the resturant like I was crazy with quiet over tones - yeah ok. I played it cool, I did Not get real, loud or draw attention to myself but its amazing how others look at your like you have a problem when you have been done horribly but still i just stayed cool & took the looks, took the petty wait time, took all the negative overtones spoken by certain customers - everyone has something to say until it happens to them. The combo number two was a Philly cheese steak of which the meat was a very thin layer, almost thinner than a piece of paper. I felt like I ate nothing but bread. The only thing that was good was the fries that was crispy. I had to put the fries in the sandwich to give the sandwich any sort of taste besides bread. Very disappointing to say the least as I was excited to support this small business but you guys need to step it up. If you need to charge 50 cents to a dollar more on the sandwich to give the customers a little more meat then do that, I already paid $10+ I don t mind but I might as well just go to Walmart if I m going to buy just bread and fries.

This place has all sorts of folk answering the phone. They use foil paper, and the juice runs through the paper. You take a bite of the steak sandwich, and the juice runs all over your close. They need better containers if they are going to over juice the sandwich. I called in and mentioned this to the young lady who answered the phone about the juice running out. Instead of her saying Ill let the cook know. She tells me with a pinch voice customers like it like that. I said to her I was talking about me. I dont want freaking juice running on my clothes. Then she repeated customers like it is juicy. Im complaining about the cheap foil and my clothes. IN and Out Burger asked if you are eating the car. They give you a paper plate mat and a cardboard box to secure your close. I have been addressing this about a year. They make too much money to use cheap foil paper. I am done eating there. I was highly anticipating having a pastrami sub . I had been craving one for about a week. Freds Downtown Philly had great reviews so I chose their restaurant over many others. I came during a non busy lunchtime, a little after 11am. I ordered the 10 Pastrami, and a regular order of fries. I was very disappointed overall. The sub itself was overpriced at $12.99 for the sandwich only. The fries were priced seperate. What i received was not a Pastrami submarine sandwhich. It looked and tasted like the cheaper priced Philly Cheesesteak. Im not bashing a Philly Cheesesteak, though I ordered and paid for Pastrami, which for the 10 cost $3. more than the Philly. There was not enough meat on the sandwich. Though the sub did not taste bad, it just was not pastrami, and the cooks made me feel uncomfortable to even think about sending it back. The price was way to high for what I received. The sauces available were ok, though not much variety. The fries were OK. I wanted a drink, but they did not have tea, or lemonade, and I was not satisfied with the selections,so i did not order something to drink. I will never be coming back.

Update 08/01/2023... The owner/manager has instructed cooks to make eggrolls 1/2 the original size. They are now a tiny 2oz of meat. I went to Freds today for lunch. It was a little distance from my office. It was definitely worth the trip. I was greeted when I walked in and the person taking my order was really friendly. Most of all, my Pepper Steak Philly Cheesesteak was delicious. It was great. Also, of note to me. The smell that used to be in there was completely gone. I will definitely be back and I would recommend this location to anyone I know.

Went to this place at around lunchtime, and was greeted by a nice gentleman at the counter, who had my order ready on the spot. The place itself had a good vibe to it, old and a bit run down, but to be honest, the state that it was in, went well with its aura and I liked it. I believe that I can easily say that the food in general was good and could be described as delicious. I ordered the #16 Marcellus Chicken Philly, and the serving came in a nice portion. A 10 inch philly, with a good combination of ingredients that enhanced its flavor and taste. The one star deduction is due to the bread that came with the sandwich. The bread internally was a bit too soft and when mixed with the ingredients of the philly, it led to some sogginess and reduction in utility. But, overall a good place, good food, good vibes, and recommendable!

No doubt that Fred s has the best cheesesteak in Texas, however management is driving this formerly great establishment straight into the ground. Hours are extremely inconsistent. They work if they feel like it. Tonight was the fourth visit that when I pull in the place is dark with a sign about staffing shortages. Temporarily I d understand, but this has been an issue for a year or more. Either they are difficult to work for or way underpay. It is so inconsistent and unreliable. Like anything unreliable, you begin to just write it off and move it to the past. Unless management can step up running a business, it won t be around long term no matter how good the product is.

Best Philly Ive had in DFW period. Rule of thumb, when you order from here its better to eat it fresh at the restaurant then to take it home, because just like Philly, you will a soggy sandwich by the time you get home, which US people from Philly are used to. Ive been to a few other Philly cheesesteak places out here and they dont even have cheese whiz, which is mind-boggling. If you want a good Philly thats close to Howell cheesesteak in Philly actually tastes go here and eat it at the restaurant, youre welcome.

Been coming to this spot well over a decade and used to absolutely love it. Its a restaurant I would always recommend and go there frequently. But lately the last few times Ive eaten here It hasnt hit the same. The food is Definitely missing something. The most recent experience was the worst the cheese steak was mid at best and the wings tasted like they were fried in the same oil as something sweet. The wings tasted like oreos . I like oreos but not oreo wings. Definitely wont be back to this location unless maybe freds on the grill which I never see him there anymore. Anyways maybe Ill try the Carrollton location next time.

First time going and I ll be going again. The mushroom Philly was delicious and the Cajun fries were excellent! Food was nice and hot, employees were fun and kind, I even ordered 20 min before closing. I felt bad, but they reassured me it was no problem and fulfilled my order with flying colors. Made for a great end to the day. Thank you!

Always great service with a smile. I ve never received an order messed up and the food is always proportioned very big. Usually you can watch a movie while eating there too. Highly recommend this place over any other Philly style restaurant!

Allen location is better and wont be coming back to Plano location - VERY little meat and and I actually paid EXTRA for lettuce and tomatoes but barely on it. Gosh what a waste of money! And to top it off a rude cashier who doesnt even say thank you to customers. Last time for sure.

I called there and a male picked up the phone and was the worst staff every encounter. I do hope you can hire better server than him. I asked to speak with a manager, and he said the manger is too busy then hung up the phone. When I called, he kept hanging up the company business phone. I tired calling the Carrollton and it was off the hook with a busy dial tone. The rudest people work here at the Plano location.

I LOVE this place. As a Cowboy s fan, all of the Eagles memorabilia on the walls was a bit offensive, but I d put up with it every single time for the sandwiches. You can get it however you like. They are so tasty and made when you order it. The ranch and hot sauce at the table is perfect. There are a few locations now but still would recommend figuring out where Fred is cooking and let him hook you up. I live a decent distance away now but this is one of the places I ll drive an hour back into town to enjoy.

The only place Ill eat Philly cheesesteaks in the DFW area! I often get a chicken cheesesteak and can tell the chicken is made from quality protein and cheesy goodness. Top it off with Freds hot sauce, and a side of cajun fries is a must. So good!

The food and service was great and the hostess was so friendly. The only down side were the dirty tables, which would be an easy clean up but there were no napkins until we received our food tray. The restrooms needed some help as well. But once we wipe everything down, the food and great service really changed everything.

Was hoping for a good cheesesteak. What was served was tough as nails. Had to spit it out in my napkin twice. Glad I only got the small size. No flavor either. Not sure what has happened to this place but they are trending in the wrong direction. Also fryer was down.
