Fun quick stop on the way through to the Sand Dunes. Didnt take long to get through, and the little museum there was very informative. Liked the distance to the planets display as you leave the museum.

The reviews saying its a waste of money are interesting, especially considering its free..... This is NOT the Arizona crater. That one is the biggest and best preserved one there is. Period. If youre coming here expecting it to be like the one in Arizona, dont bother. But if youre coming just to check it out and get a new perspective on the universe, come on down. Im not even into museums and I found it to be pretty neat. Small, but still was better than I expected. Where else can you just walk around inside a crater? Especially for free! Some of the negative reviews on here are just flat out lies. Side note: I had been here a couple times in the past MANY years ago. This was the first time I saw the museum. I really dont think that was there in my past visits

This very interesting Crater is only a few minutes from the interstate. Very difficult not to do a quick visit if you are nature oriented. The visitor center does an excellent job explaining the investigations done there. The visitor center is nice and very clean. The host was friendly and knowledgeable.

It was interesting to stop just on the way and spend half of an hour walking around the crater, but it would not be worth doing a special trip for that at all. I was there in May, and the temperature outside was +105F, but they do not have any drinking water fountain inside the building. So it better be awared and get something to drink with you. Also if you decide to buy a T-sort from their little museum shop it is better to have some cash with you because they dont take any cards. By the way, the one-room museum was pretty nice and interesting, although a guy in there was extremely unhospitable and answered only Yes, sir. No, sir and I can not, sir.

Odessa Meteor Crater is a gem more for the outstanding museum than even the large 550 crater ring and trail around it. This, 63,000,000 crater has been greatly filled in by dirt over time, but it is still very discernable. The museum has an amazing group of meteorites from around the world. NO CHARGE for visiting. It is non-profit and deserves strong support. A bonus is the adjacent smaller 2nd meteor crater.

I guess some people dont understand how craters look when time has changed them. I guess some dont appreciate science and the amazing fact that space junk landed here. I guess some dont relax, open their minds, and enjoy their surroundings. This is A must-see free attraction on a westward bound road trip. Very awesome and educational. Clear air, giant sky, lots of plants. What are the odds a meteor hit right next to the meteor museum?! ;) Just stay out of the bramble!

We drove for hours traveling back home. This was one of our stops. Of course, nothing goes as planned with traffic. We showed up 10 minutes before closing. My mom cant walk long distances, but I wanted her to get out and stretch her legs for a few minutes. Even if it was to just get in the wheel chair and then back into the car. I noticed someone walking to the gate. It was cold out. My kid had already taken off to take pictures. We got her back up from the crator and put mom back into the car. It was literally 1 minute to close. As I pulled up to the gate, I thanked the man for waiting. He said he was giving us time. He would have stayed longer. Surely wasnt his fault about traffic, and I do not know his life. He may have had something pressing to do. There will be other days to go through it when we are not in such a rush. I appreciated him, though.

Located just outside of Odessa, TX, 3 miles South of I-20. It was very easy to locate, and is well worth the visit if you are in the area. Unlike the Barringer Crater in AZ, this is not a family owned cash grab. Its free admission, has a small, but interesting museum, and they rely heavily on donations and sales to maintain the place. The site actually has two impact craters, one which is completely filled in and one that is mostly filled. They have a footpath around the crater rim area with plenty of informational signs. As you leave the site, there are signs designating the bodies of our solar system. Its crazy to think about the scale of it. The inner rocky planets and sun were all located within about 200 feet of another, and three miles later theres Pluto.

They sell souvenirs in the small museum, admission is free. You go to the museum and register, and then you go out the back and start the tour of where the meteorite crater is located , as you go along the indicated path you read the information on how they were formed and the measurements, etc It has parking. Have your coins ready so you can create your memories with the coin machine.

This is a very small meteor crater; now just a six foot depression. However it was once 100 deep according to the visitor center. The models are Interesting and detailed, showing the upturned beds caused by the meteor impact and the layers of fill over time. It s close to the freeway and a good place to stop and let the kids out of the car to learn a little science and burn off some energy. There is a concrete path around the crater. Considering it s free I give it five stars. Recommended.

Great area to learn about some history, have lunch with a group, and stretch your legs they have both a museum and pavilion to eat it. The trails around the crater are well preserved and easy to walk through.
