I had their Mexican Mule at lunch time and it was delicious but when I later came back for dinner that was not the case! I got a horrible bitter lime tasting drink with no alcohol. The waitress took it back and it was even worse the 2nd time! I got severe indigestion and almost vomited from it! The bartender on 9/27/2024 at 6 PM was horrible and took revenge on me and gave me a worse drink! The manager should investigate, a place that advertises the best margaritas should not have an untrained bartender on staff! The beans were not the tastiest either!

WOW! I almost never do five-star reviews. The staff, the service, the ambiance, and most importantly, the food were all outstanding. Our server, Eileen, was friendly, professional, and efficient. Everyone in our group was impressed with the chips and salsa, and the fajitas were magnificent. My wife and I had the mixed fajitas for two. The beef was flavorful and surprisingly tender. The chicken was perfectly seasoned and cooked. The manager, Jacob, even stopped by our table to ensure there were no complaints and thank us for stopping by. Everyone in our group expressed their opinion that Cantina del Rio was superb and that they would definitely be eating there again.

With $ to burn, we were hungry. I wanted a burger and my wife wanted Mexican and were close to our rental. This place was perfect! I enjoy the Rey burger and my wife devoured a fish taco and a shrimp taco with rice and beans. We were both stuffed! Our waitress Jada was an angel and took care of us very well. What a nice experience on a Monday afternoon!

This place is the place to eat if you like Mexican food! I started with a strawberry margarita on the patio! It was possibly the BEST one I have ever had. Once seated inside, Christian was our waiter! He was beyond someone with great service and excellent customer service skills! Ask for him when you go! I cant brag enough about the chicken fajita nachos! I ordered a bacon cheeseburger! Some of the shirts from the staff stated they were known for their burgers, tacos, and ritas! I had them all and I was not disappointed!

The star of this review is Johnathan. He is an awesomely amazing waiter! We arrived and had to sit outside, a party of 6. We had drinks, chips, salsa & queso. And were waiting to order. After a while, Jonathan came to take our order. While taking our orders, he offered to move us inside, where it is air-conditioned. A large party had just left, and the table was available. Parking: Limited parking at the restaurant. There 8s parking across the street and further down the street. Wheelchair accessibility: There is a ramp into the building and to the upper patio.

Next time, Would Go elsewhere for Food. Chips had an after taste. Salsa was not great. Started with appetizer. While waiting for Appetizer, noticed table next to us, they had left with their plates still full....took that as a bad sign. And it was. The Chicken fajita nachos were not tostados. They were small stale chips with melted cheese The cheese was not fresh melted but hard melted and not even warm. So glad we didnt order any other food. We understand why this place was not busy now. Would not go ever back.

The only place in Gruene where dog owners are tolerated, but nothing more. You are only allowed to sit in the pick-up waiting area, where there is no service, so you have to get everything yourself and then you get it quite provocatively in the hopefully you want to eat somewhere else - to go packaging. The Texmex food is rather below average, nothing special except the guacamole was really good. The staff is super young and usually stands in a pack at the front of the outdoor area entrance, carefully watching the clouds and their phones. The store itself is very nice and the location is extremely nice. The inside is also very attractive, luckily as a dog owner you were allowed to use the toilet.

This place has great atmosphere! I love the indoor/ outdoor patio built around big trees. Its walking distance from the river but also has parking and is wheelchair accessible. Their chips are excellent, puffy and crispy. The guacamole is incredibly creamy. The salsa and queso was the perfect amount of spicy. We loved the sizzling beef fajitas and quesadilla. This place has had been there for years. Its a nice spot to have lunch it dinner after a long day at the river.

Weve been here a few times before, but this was embarrassing. My wife ordered a 1/2 lb cheeseburger, and I ordered a 1/3 lb hamburger with extra lettuce, extra tomatoes, extra pickles, NO onions, and mustard. When we got our order, we saw that the burgers were the size of SLIDERS... hockey pucks as round as meatballs that poked through the top and bottom of the little bun. My hockey puck/ meatball looked like it had a bite out of it already. See photo. Three bites, and it was gone! We thought we got somebody elses order. With all the things I told the waiter I wanted on my burger, there was nothing at all but the very small bun and the hockey puck/meatball, naked. I mentioned this to the waiter, and he brought me a very small bowl of diced tomatoes and ONIONS, which I said I DIDNT want. No lettuce, pickles, mustard in sight! Much less any extra of anything. My wife had the same hockey puck/meatball also, with no mayonnaise that she wanted, and it was supposed to be 1/2 lb. We do catering, and I would be EMBARRASED to serve this. ...And to have to order french fries separately. Dont they know that all other restaurants that charge a premium price for burgers include french fries? We invited some friends to also experience our find as a new to us good restaurant. They said the nachos they ordered werent something to recommend to their friends either. Dont go to a restaurant and leave hungry!!!

My favorite spot to wine down. I am always happy that I get Jordan as my server. So attentive, always make us laughs, customer service is unmatched with the recommendations on drinks and food. Sometimes I feel like tipping him is never enough because he always goes above and beyond to ensure our table is ok even when the place is crazy busy. His short period of being onboard at this place he has made a huge impact on customers. Never a dull moment with the laughs. You know, I really didnt expect this place to be any good. It seems like a very touristy spot but it was actually great! We got the queso with chorizo as an appetizer and it was delicious. Both mine and my husbands meal was great. Its a little bit on the pricey side but that is totally to be expected given the iconic location. The drinks were ridiculously strong! But Im not complaining! They have a little bar outside where you can purchase something if you have to wait. They even have seats right next to it so who can resist? All the waitresses were really great that weve had when we go. Theres only one waitress that, although very sweet, didnt know much about the menu. She said she hadnt eaten there. I asked her questions about the menu and she said she didnt know because she doesnt eat it. Well thats fine if you dont eat it, but I do feel you should have some type of knowledge of the menu. First time eating here and we loved it! We got the fajita platter with grilled onions for 2 with beans rice, guacamole, Pico de gallo,, and shredded cheese. (All for $32.99) The chicken and beef were very tender and juicy, and all the sides and fixings were delicious as well. Plus, we got a big basket of chips and salsa right when we sat down for free, which were very good; those chips were especially awesome! Its a small place in Gruene right next to the Gristmill that doesnt look like much, except it IS colorful and has a little patio (and inside seating as well). No one compares to the juicy tender chunks with grilled onions n green peppers with great sides n guacamole are definitely my favorite. Margaritas are the best at Happy Hour but I recently went on Fat Tuesday . Ordered the enchiladas and they were so hard I had to cut with a knife. Cheese was cold and not good at all. Wow!! Previously we tried the El Rey burger and chulapas. Awesome! The margaritas are the BEST! Also went again and tried the beef fajitas. Excellent. Went today to try the fish and shrimp tacos. Surprised at how delicious they are, and cooked perfectly. The fish tacos are definitely our favorite dish here at Cantina. Servers are always friendly, helpful, and right there with everything we wanted/needed. The prices have gone up lately but still reasonable for what we get. The happy hour margaritas are also a great treat. Happy hour has been extended to 11-6 Friday and 11-2 Saturday and Sunday. Luvd it! Looking forward to coming back soon. I highly recommend a visit to the Cantina.

This restaurant is a quaint, little spot, in colorful Gruene, Tx. Its in an ideal location, overlooking the Guadalupe River. The service was great, as the lady was very attentive and friendly. But food was nothing special. The sausa was very bland, with very little seasoning. The rice was very salty. The beans were very tasty, but lacked seasoning. The sweet tea was exceptional!! The Mexican cuisine served here is certainly top notch! My family and I tried the beef fajitas and the cheese enchiladas. The beef fajitas are moist, tender, and exceptionally flavorful! The cheese enchiladas have the perfect amount of enchilada sauce and are fantastically cheesy and tasty. Moreover, the fresh tasting salsa pairs well with the delicately salted and crispy tortilla chips. In addition, the waitstaff is extraordinarily courteous, accommodating and prompt that makes for an abundantly pleasant dining experience. I highly recommend Cantina Del Rio!

This is my familys favorite Tex-Mex in the San Antonio/New Braunfels area. The food is great, full of flavor and just the right amount of spices-not bland like so many others in the area. Their chips and salsa set the standard and their entrees like enchiladas are top notch. They are reasonably priced with good, friendly service and a nice atmosphere. Only downside can be the Texas summer heat, since much of their seating is outdoors. Also, parking is very limited so you may have to park nearby and walk over. Always a great time out for us. We were soaking wet from the river tube trip by they sat us outside and fed us until I never wanted to see another tortilla chip again. The outdoor seating was more of a covered patio. The server staff was attentive enough without hanging around so much that you feel the need to send them a Christmas card. If if youre in the area and like Mexican food then eat here. I wont regret it.

Jasmine was so wonderful. She brought me extra salsa, my favorite. Spicy and fresh. I had a couple margaritas while waiting for my table, excellent at 3$ each. So much ambiance and great decor. The only thing this place was missing was live music. I had the chicken enchiladas verdes, mmmmm yummy. Coming back soon. :)

Visited here because we heard the margaritas were the best. Thankfully they delivered! All of us enjoyed everything. The rice, beans, burgers, fajita, especially the margaritas. It s on the river which is beautiful. Great service. Jamie helped us. Most of my party are from Mexico so I m telling you, they loved it! The only thing that wasn t awesome, was tortillas. Looked store bought.

Great atmosphere and amazing service, but the quality of food wasn t up to par. No vegetarian options, we asked to sub meat with vegetables (that we always do at other restaurants) but wasn t that good. I appreciate that they did customize dish for us and so do other restaurants. I hope they add some vegetarian options on the menu. Vegetarian options: Please add veggie options

My wife and I enjoyed our lunch tremendously. Cecilia, the server, was as good as any server could be. The food was excellent as well and the ambiance was just exactly what my wife and I needed. She had the Burger Del Ray and said it was excellent and cooked to perfection. I had the enchilada plate with beans and rice which were excellent. If youre looking for good food good services good atmosphere Cantina Del Rey is where you need to go. And if you get Cecilia as your server tell her the Lawsons said Howdy!

We unfortunately had a bad experience at Cantina del Rio. Olivia did a good job in servicing us. However it was 50 minutes before we got our food. Others in restaurant received their food first and they sat down 15 minutes after we did. The manager stated he had other quesadillas orders to fill and our food would be out shortly.

Wife and I had a weekend stay in Gruene for our 20th anniversary. Mexicans gonna do what Mexicans gonna do, so my wife decided our first meal should be Mexican food. We were not disappointed! First up, let me just say: 3 dollar happy hour margaritas! Tajin on the rim and they DO NOT skimp on the tequila. What a deal! Our server, Donovan -- who was awesome and helpful! -- let my wife sample the sangria is well, but the margaritas are where its at. She had the pork street tacos and I had the shrimp tacos. They were both excellent. But heres the real kicker: every Mexican joint lives or dies by their chips and salsa. And these were excellent! The chips were super airy and bubbly and crispy and perfectly salted. And the salsa had great flavor and just the right amount of kick for both of us! We will definitely come back some day. If I had been in the mood for a burger, I absolutely would have tried their famous El Rey Burger, but I just wasnt feeling it last night.

Best part- Our server was very polite and attentive. She stated her 21st birthday was coming up soon so we chatted about her birthday plans. Drink shots were plentiful - larger size than normal Cons - Food came out very fast because it was already precooked. Food was very salty and dry. Drinks were too sweet. Food mediocre My order was too salty so they kindly replaced it with another dish without a problem.

So first off the food was great! Our server was good. Kinda pricey, but its in touristy part of town. Our only prob was we were sat outside. It was 105! We were told no room for 3 adults and toddler, inside. The fans outside did nothing you cool you off. I ordered fajita plate which was good but added heat to our table that I did not want, lol. Parking: Only about 5-6 parking spots on property. More across street.

The waitress who kept getting the simple order wrong and then rolling her eyes because of the corrections over (3) times did not provide even a decent service. Maybe the attitude affects the meal because my guisado plate did not taste at all as what should be. The waitress name is OLIVIA. While we (party of 4) waited for exactly (27) minutes for orders of simple beef quesadillas and guisado, Olivia, the waitress, asked if I just wanted to move the already wrong orders onto a new plate. All this while rolling her eyes and mumbling away as everything is noticed. Maybe shes in the wrong industry in a touristy town. The food, or was not worth the wait. After going ove rthis experience with the manager, it seemed to go nowhere as he was answering withbyeah, sure, then hung up. I write this respectfully as someone who travels and brings asking parties and groups. This place will not be on any planned events.
