Each time we visited, we were seated quickly without needing a reservation. We were warmly greeted at the door and our server and other staff were friendly and attentive. The dining area is cozy and closely quartered but not unreasonably noisy. You can easily carry on a conversation while you dine. Our water glasses were kept full and the fresh bread was provided throughout the meal. Our meals were served quickly, piping hot. Fresh Parmesan cheese and ground pepper service was offered. Each dish was delicious, leaving us wanting to lick the plate clean. Having some bread for that purpose was helpful. If youre looking for a quality Italian meal on the square this is a great choice.

Fantastic food. We have been a few times and every time it is fantastic. It is pricy but so worth it for a nice night out. McKinney Square has bad parking options but the restaurant is close by to the parking garage/lot. Each dish we have tried is amazing. The restaurant itself is very well decorated and has a lot of beautiful plants. However, it is always cold so bring a jacket. Overall, a new family favorite. Dietary restrictions: They are very willing to accommodate for dietary restrictions and needs.

Beautiful place and a super friendly staff. Their pasta is made fresh but sadly uses eggs in the dough. This is NOT traditional Italian. Some pastas, lasagna and ravioli, for example, are traditionally made with eggs, but pappardelle, tagliatelle, orecchiette, etc. are just flour and water generally. If this isnt an issue for you, then definitely give this place a shot. Youll love it most likely.

Such a cute spot! My friends and I came in here in search of some food and were not disappointed! Our waitress was amazing! She made my friend a latte and really went above and beyond since they usually just do black coffee, she was a gem! The appetizers are to die for! We got the meatballs and the spinach dip, both were so flavorful and we couldnt stop eating it. Also, the free bread was some of the best free bread Ive ever had! The only reason Im giving this place a 4 instead of a 5 is because the prosciutto and arugula pizza was a bit burnt and had a bit of an odd after taste, but that could also be cause I didnt try it till I got home so I wasnt too mad about it. It also took a while for us to be served food, but again there was a festival that weekend so I wasnt too upset. Overall, I really loved this place and will definitely be back!

FELT LIKE A VACATION IN ITALY Fontina Ristorante, a charming little restaurant just off the square of Downtown McKinney. The service was incredible. Our waiter was very attentive. He described the menu, gave us pointers on the preferences, he was precisely what servers are theoretically supposed to be. My meatball sandwich was served on a Rustic French Baguette. The meatballs were tender and were covered in the consummate amount of marinara and mozzarella cheese melted to perfection. It came with a small side Caesar Salad that was impeccably dressed with what seemed like a very light anchovy salted dressing. It was a charming lunch; one I will unquestionably go back for. Thank you for this memorable lunch.

While the food was reasonably tasty, the descriptions in the menu are lacking and give no indication of how dishes are prepared. I dont usually order cream based sauces and have an aversion to sugar. I was completely surprised that my pasta came in a sweet pink sauce. One shouldnt have to waste time asking about each item on the menu to decide what you wish to eat. I would have given 4 stars if not for this.

This is a great place to go with friends that are not hungry and want alcohol. Its crazy loud - they need some accoustic foam or soft surfaces to absorb the sound of people talking. Our first time going - we called ahead - told no wait, we live close, less than 3 minutes away, went right away. There was certainly a wait. Thats OK - the food must be good. We were eventually seated - service was crazy slow...The appetizer - Prawns and Pesto - tails on prawns were decent, the pesto was pretty good. The Salad -Cesar specifically, it consisted of lettuce, a couple croutons and some parmesean cheese. IS that a Cesar salad? The rigatoni - no parmesean cheese offered, ok serving size - the sauce was plain - no real flavor..... I dont think there are any Italians in the kitchen. The wine... Dante.... tasted like two buck chuck. Dang. I asked my server his name... Matt...I asked him if he understood a couple Italian words - he explained he is Turkish as is most of the staff and does not know much about the language or the food. I thought that was super interesting as most of my Turkish friends dont eat Italian food becasue it has pork in it and theyre Muslim. Interesting..... what about the kitchen staff? He laughed out loud as he explained that they get some food ideas from the owners french friend that comes in from time to time. Fontina is a nice place - not a fine dining restaurant or an authentic Italian place, glasses dont match, silverware doesnt match, etc..- more of an Italian theme....sort of.

Been living in McKinney since 2002. We had some friends visiting and spur of the moment on a Saturday night decided to head to the Square. We settled on Fontina Risturante. You know that saying you have one chance to make a First Impression? Walked in the door and it was only 6:15pm, but the restaurant was packed. Good sign. We were sat at essentially a picnic table upstairs. Not exactly what I pictured for Italian restaurant seating. They need to get rid of that picnic table all together. Took what seemed forever to get anyone to swing by our table. It was 30 minutes before we even had water. We had three different folks waiting on our table. Took :90 minutes just to see one of our three appetizers. Best food was their spinach dip and the Chicken for their Chicken Parmesan. Really dont have much else to say about the rest of the dishes. At the very end of the meal one of our three waiters tells us they are down a chef due to one of their chefs having a heart attack in the kitchen. Dont you think information like that would have been nice to know right away? Instead we were left in the dark wondering why it took an hour and a half just to see one of our appetizers. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Chef and their family. We truly hope they are on the mend. We will give the restaurant another chance on an off peak night someday. Our First impression was unfortunately not a good one.

I love downtown McKinney and I am a super strong supporter so leaving this review is difficult for me. Have been here for dinner once before (and recommended it to others), made a reservation and met another couple of dear friends there. Was surprised when they took us upstairs as I didn t even know there was an upstairs dining area. Evidently it has just been opened upstairs for a few months. Was happy that it was quieter upstairs so we could visit but it definitely did not have the ambience of downstairs, but that was OK. The rest of the evening was just quite a mess. It took quite a while to get drinks out- only 3 of 4 came out and it was probably another 10 minutes before the fourth drink came out. In fact it didn t come out until after the appetizers had came out. When our dinner was brought out- two guests got their main dishes and two got salads only. (Usually those with salads get them first then all entrées come out together). One salad had no dressing. The other entrees came out later and the medium rare steak was clearly medium well. There was no follow up, checking in on how things came out. It took a good 10 minutes to get the waiters attention about the steak and he said well maybe a bit overdone -my friend asked for a new one and the waiter shrugged it off and walked away-No help was offered. No solution. It was difficult to get the waiters attention to get our bill - he was bussing tables and it was literally almost empty upstairs by the time we got the bill. Three of the four dishes were very good, but it was just a disjointed evening. I would probably go back for the food again, but I would definitely hope for much better service and attention to detail and willingness to accommodate dinners requests.

I wonder if the cook has ever seen how an eggplant parmesan looks like. We are unfortunate to order one eggplant parmesan dish and received a pile of spagety with two fried to hard slices of eggplant laying next to it. Made a reservation for 6:30 this Saturday for my daughter s 18 birthday. We arrive at 625 and were told it s a 45 minute wait or we can be sat up stairs. Despite having the reservation we agreed to upstairs as we didn t want to wait 45 minutes. Huge mistake, the upstairs is a bar with TVs playing football. Totally cool if that s what you want but but not what we made the reservation for. Long story short a bunch of drunk idiots watching games and drinking were loud and obnoxious. We waited 35 minutes after ordering bruschetta which never arrived then we decided to leave. The waiter was super apologetic but it wasn t his fault. He literally told me he doesn t blame us for leaving because the place is full of white trash and the kitchen is a mess tonight . We paid for our two glasses of wine and went to Harvest. We celebrated my daughter s birthday there with a great meal and service. Don t think we will give Fontina another chance. Too bad as we wanted to like it. We were at a local vineyard down the street for a glass of wine and they advised us to be wary of Fontina, should have listened!

I recently dined at Fiorentina and unfortunately, the experience left much to be desired. Despite arriving promptly, we waited for an unreasonable amount of time just to be acknowledged. The initial anticipation turned into frustration as we hoped for a prompt and welcoming start to our meal. Our disappointment escalated when we decided to order a bottle of wine. Shockingly, after waiting for over 30 minutes, the wine never made it to our table. The lack of communication from the staff only added to our dismay. To make matters worse, our attempts to get the attention of the waitress were consistently ignored. This lack of basic customer service left us with no choice but to walk out, abandoning our plans for an enjoyable evening. Its disheartening to see such a lapse in service, and I hope this review serves as constructive feedback for improvement. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend Fiorentina based on my recent visit.

I normally dont dine out because, well, I can make it myself, but when I do dine out, I usually expect to be disappointed but I left with a very happy tummy, satiated palette and a warm fuzzy feeling like Id just dined with extended family! We wanted to go for some quick lunch and we saw the menu outside, saw a rigatoni pomodoro for $11, so we went in. The pasta wasn t very good, you could tell nothing was fresh (red sauce was canned, Parmesan was just the powdered stuff you d get at Walmart, wife got a pasta with canned mushrooms - zero effort). But the part that bothered me the most is when we asked the waiter for the check. They have the machines the waiter brings to the table and just swipe the card there. The waiter just showed us a total, I gave him my card, ask for my receipt, and we walked out. When I saw the receipt, I saw that they had a rigatoni Bolognese, minus bolognese add pomodoro on there for $16. He knew exactly what he was doing by just showing us the total and not printing out a detailed ticket or anything. For a restaurant that is struggling (it was noon on a Sunday and there was only one family there), I would expect a little bit more to try to have people come back.

No, thank you. Just left there after practically being run out of the door. I had the lunch special and somehow the price jumped up almost $10 when I received my check. I ordered the basic pasta with chicken. It tasted like chicken noodle soup without the broth. Lunch closed at 3. At 3:01, the waiter came and grabbed my plate and said, Ill box this up for you, while I was still eating. The meal was supposed to come with complimentary bread and oil. When I asked him why I didnt receive any but the table next to me did, he told me they didnt have any ready when I sat down, so they made some fresh bread for the other table and I should have asked for some. And Id get some the next time I came back. I will never be going back. The only positive thing I can say is that the sweet tea was perfectly sweet.

Great Italian restaurant in downtown McKinney! Portions are perfect for sharing! My husband and I had the penne fontina which was delicious as well as the mussels which are by far one of the best we ve had! We truly appreciated the professional and friendly service that Chivo provided. Food came out timely and the bread with oil is perfect for the mussels! Also had Hugo s cocktail, very refreshing. We ll be back and have dessert as well next time.

My papa growing up was from Italy and spoke little English when he came to America. As a child he would make us meatballs with tomatoes and herbs he would grow himself. Coming to this restaurant and having them I was so skeptical because nothing could ever compare to his. I have tried and failed ha ha. I was so incredibly wrong here! This amazing little hidden diamond restaurant just astounded me. The food all around sent me back so nostalgically it made me think of my family and have a Ratatouille movie type of moment of sitting in his kitchen as a child. When my family visits, this is hands down my favorite place I will forever support. P.s staff was outstanding too which made it just the cherry on top. Whatever you are doing keep doing it.

Ive been coming to the McKinney Square for years so Ive seen multiple different restaurants in the building now occupied by Fontina. The renovations they did are superb! The dining room is absolutely beautiful, with lots of greenery and natural elements. I just popped in for a quick drink and some to-go food. I had a white Russian - delish - and the lobster ravioli. The ravioli is to die for! The sauce that comes with it is the best. I will definitely need to come in for the whole dinner experience. Cant wait!

My daughter and I ate here for lunch on Tuesday to celebrate mothers day. We hadnt planned on going here, we were just walking around McKinney exploring and noticed them across the street from one of our favorite antique stores. I wish that one of us would have taken pictures. But we were just enjoying the moment. The host seated us immediately and was super. We had coffee earlier in the day but hadnt had any water yet. The waitress brought us water right away and when I chugged mine like a 10 year old chugs koolaid, she brought us back the carafe to have at our table. She also brought sliced bread and a balsamic/oil dipping plate. This bread was AMAZING. Perfect bite on the crust and super soft on the inside. We ordered bruschetta for an appetizer, and the tomatoes, onions and basil were chopped lovingly to fit perfectly on the size of the toasted bread. They must have a hook up on the best ingredients, because this was by far the best bruschetta that I have ever had. Our entrees were both beyond any italian food that we have ever had around DFW. My daughter got the spaghetti carbonara and I got the lobster ravioli. If the pasta wasnt made in house, it had to have been made somewhere very near. My lobster ravioli came with a sage butter sauce that was buttery but not overly heavy. We were both speechless just enjoying the food and atmosphere. The waitress was a gem. She was constantly watching us and checking in with us in the most pleasant way. We asked how long they had been there because we couldnt believe we hadnt found this place sooner and were told that it had been there for about 8 mos. We both live in Little Elm/Frisco, but will most definitely be going back to McKinney. This will be our go to Italian Restaurant. I almost forgot to mention, the prices! There was nothing over $25! If you havent, GO CHECK THEM OUT. You wont be sorry!!!

The BEST thing about this place is a server named Chivo. Truly. The first time my husband and I tried this restaurant we had Chivo as a server and service was WONDERFUL. Food was ok, nothing special, but we were excited to have an Italian restaurant in the square to go to....so we continued to eat here in hopes that the food might improve and looking for that stellar service that Chivo offered us on our first visit. I can honestly say (after many visits) if Chivo isnt your server, the service is pretty lack luster. Last night, I brought a friend here for dinner for her birthday. I called about 20 minutes before our reservation to inquire if something could be done to highlight it was her birthday...ie: maybe put a candle on her dessert and sing?? I was assured this would happen...it did not. Nothing happened. Again, mediocre service and food. Disappointing. I just called the manager Eric to relay my bad experience and Eric responded with a very weak..well Im sorry about what happened. I will talk to people. Id like to do something but it sounds like you were left with a bad taste in your mouth. So, he did nothing. It makes sense actually. Service starts at the top, and this establishment needs help.

We had the worst Italian restaurant experience today. Fontina Ristorante in downtown Mckinney. They just opened a few months ago. First, they had a sign on their door saying they have no public restrooms. That should have been a sign that something is wrong. Restaurant had nice ambience, our waitress was very nice. Bread with olive oil was really good and set high expectations. Ordered a relatively expensive charcuterie board. The prosciutto tasted spoiled and was yellow at the edges, the mozzarella had no flavor, the olives didn t taste good. Then came our pizza. Tasted like a frozen pizza that happened to be cooked in a pizza oven. Actually, we ve had better frozen pizzas! It was so tasteless. The cheese had no flavor that it just made me gag. We told the waitress we had to leave and to bring our check. We left the food and walked down the street to another restaurant. As we waited for our food at the other restaurant, we were still nauseated from the aftertaste of Fontina Ristorante. I don t think in all our lives have we ever been to a restaurant so tasteless or awful tasting. We don t know if they were having an off day. But as a new restaurant you cant afford an off day because we ll never be back.

Meh. Decent service. Food quality not commensurate to price. Pork chop was bland, spinach artichoke dip was not really dip, more like a red milk broth with large clumps of barely wilted spinach and almost entire artichoke hearts in it. Was informed by waitress that the soup-like consistency of the dip is a traditional Italian recipe (pretty sure its not). The decor is nice though the abundance of plastic plants gives an aire of cheapness that is consistent with the food. There are much better Italian restaurants in and around Collin County.

My wife and I had been hearing wonderful things about Fontina and, given we dont have a ton of Italian places here in McKinney, we finally decided to do a late lunch. Arrived just after 1:30p and there were only two tables seated. Not a problem, were after the lunch rush and was to be expected. The places is well decorated and it really has a Tuscan-like feel. The wine bottle display is especially good looking. We were sat almost immediately... and then waited. The hostess was setting tables and other chores. While we waited. Glanced over to the bar (well built!) and could see a bit into the kitchen. They were moving around, so I figure someone didnt mention us. Hostess then brings us some bread and a olive oil/balsamic vinegar with some herbs. But didnt take even a drink order. So we waited a bit more. Finally the waitress (owner, I think) comes over and takes our drink order and order. My water came, but my wife had to remind her for her tea. Not the best experience so far, but then the food came. For a lunch dish, it was a great value. It had good flavor, but we both agree that it didnt have a great depth of flavor. My chicken alfredo (what I always order the first time so I have a standard to compare) could desperately need some black pepper or something. But I cant complain. The food was a solid three stars. The service, unfortunately, I have to give one star. The price-to-value Id also give a solid three starts, maybe four stars. We will try Fontina again, this time for dinner and see if maybe we just hit a weird lull or something.

Finally after being seated and waiting for almost another half hr., our waiter came over and took our drink order. We also placed an order for spinach dip. Well long story short we were there for over 2 hrs. and never received our appetizer, he never came back and asked if we wanted a refill. He literally walked around and we saw him standing up front talking to some friends that had walked in. We finally stopped another waitress and told her we would like to order where she then went over and told our waiter. He came over and said I heard y all wanted to order your food . SERIOUSLY!!! We were not rude at all. We were very patient until going into 2.5hrs. After we saw another table complaining also and starting to leave we decided to do the same. I understand businesses are short staffed, but there was no reason for what happened.
