Made reservations for two and was pleasantly greeted and delighted to have been seated in front of the musical entertainment for the evening. Gave me some points with my date. Steaks, wine and dessert were phenomenal. Highly recommend this local restaurant bar in historic downtown mcallen. Becky and Che do a great job running the place.

I love this restaurant! Every year my wife and I celebrate our wedding anniversary. The food is always so delicious and the presentation is also done extremely well. The ribeye steak is always cooked perfectly and melts in your mouth! The atmosphere is nice and cozy makes it very romantic. Always look forward to coming here!

We were looking forward to this place for it came recommended. We drove from Houston to visit with family and friends and celebrate my partners birthday. Food: Our tomahawk steak was cold by the time it got to our table. We alerted our waitress, and she was nonchalant about the situation. The lobster bisque was less than expected. The side salad was good. The Manhattan and old fashion were less than average for my taste. At this moment Food was less than ok - cold food, not great drinks. Service: Initially, we were so impressed by how they to set up our table with a Happy Bday, Paul. At this moment we had an idea that it was going to be an excellent experience! We were looking forward to the food and drinks. The service was decent, I have been to other like restaurants, with better service. Our biggest dissatisfaction was when we alerted her about the temperature of the tomahawk steak, and nothing was done to attempt to improve it. Atmosphere: Our guests thought it was romantic. Again, from our experience of establishments that are alike, it wasnt an impressive place - but we went for the food not the atmosphere In the end, I personally wouldnt recommend this place nor would make a point to visit again. As mentioned before drinks not great, food was cold.

Had dinner here with my wife. I order the Ahi tuna and my wife the chicken Marsala. The tuna was flavorless and the cut had very little tuna, was mostly sinew. The chicken Marsala was flavorless and bland, the pasta was the same. The atmosphere is nice but the food and service are below average. This seems like the kind of place that takes advantage of people who dont know good food by offering a nice environment and higher prices. Not worth it in my honest opinion.

We had a lovely anniversary dinner. We ordered the tuna tartar tower, the rack of lamb with cesar salad and honey glazed carrots, and the new york steak with the house salad and mashed potato. Everything was delicious, including the complimentary bread and butter. For drinks, I had the cocktail with gin and red wine, my husband ordered the moscow mule. We enjoyed everything. Superb service and they decorated the table with a sign wishing us a happy 4th anniversary. Made our evening extra special.

I went here for the steak, which had high recommendations. And my wife said her Filet Mignon was superb flavorful and butter-knife tender. I switched gears and went for the quail, one of the signature dishes. Amazing. Almost blackened-like, with seasoning bursting with flavor and a delicious gravy along the rim of the plate. We had the Lollipop Lamb Chops as an appetizer. Again, perfectly seasoned with a tzatziki sauce that was off the chain. Many more menu options I wish we had time to sample. Our servers were attentive and polite. Our water glasses were never empty. Excellent wine list with bottles from $40 to $6000. Casual yet upscale ambiance.

The Tomahawk Steak is a carnivores delight, boasting perfectly grilled meat with a spicy kick from the jalapeños toreados and a hefty baked potato. I have visited this restaurant three times now and I was disappointed with my experience. Despite being an elegant fine dining establishment, the food and cocktails were below average. I had high expectations for the duck dish but it was overpowered by an excessively sweet glaze. The protein could have been chicken and I wouldnt have noticed the difference. Similarly, my partner felt the same about the sea bass dish; both dishes were drowned in a sauce that did not enhance or complement the flavors. We had the same issue with the cocktails. Unfortunately, we will not be returning.

Literally, everything I tasted from this restaurant was fantastic . My gf and I had an 8:30 pm. reservation, and we were immediately sat down, so there was no delay whatsoever. We had the 2 crab cakes for an appetizer, and they were delicious. However, the star of the night was my Venison . As soon I took a bite, I sank back into my chair it was incredibly tender and so savory. My babes red snapper was fantastic as well . Since this was her birthday, they even brought her a free piece of cake at the end. This is a great place to celebrate an anniversary or birthday dinner . We will definitely be back!

Very impressed that I had to leave a review. Went with my husband for a late reservation and we felt so bad that it was close to closing time. We were still offered the full menu including drinks, and the food and drink I ordered came so fast! The tiramisu martini and cordon bleu were fantastic. The same for my husband. Not only that, even though it was well passed closing time and we felt bad about it being so late, the staff was SO nice and not rushing. They even offered dessert! It was ofc also very good. We had such a wonderful experience. The place is really lovely inside as well. TLDR: the food was great, the drinks are great, and the service is even better.

Over the top, fantastic dining experience thanks to Raul at the bar. Calamari starter was excellent. The Venison is as good as it gets, promise! New Zealand Red Stag is not common outside the country of NZ. In NZ they raise Red Deer much as we raise cattle and it is absolutely some of the best meat in the world, IMHO. This preparation and presentation is outstanding. Tender, tasty meat and the mushroom sauce is tremendous. The Lyonnaise potatoes are top notch as well, dont miss out! Fantastic cocktails and award winning wine list. I recommend and will return.

I had made a reservation to celebrate a very special event there a week in advance and even confirmed it the day of. once we got there they told us the table wasn t ready and made us wait 20mins at the bar. We noticed during those full 20mins there was a table for 6 open and a few 4 tops as well. I was shockingly disappointed by the food this day It was the worst pasta I had ever tried in my life and couldn t even finish half plate hence why later on I got an upset stomach. Brought my boyfriend here for his birthday and he loved it. Service was exceptional. The food was amazing called to the restaurant for a reservation. I had been looking forward to trying this place for a long while but I was a bit disappointed. The food was average at best. The steak was flavored nicely but was chewy. The chicken cordon bleu was dry and bland. The chicken marsala sauce was very oily. The service was very spotty. We had to keep asking and asking for refills and food we ordered. Our main server was hard to locate. There was one dish we asked 4 times for after waiting 30 minutes for it. The birthday card and touches were nice but not really worth the visit or cost. I think I will give it another try because the menu options do look good and the atmosphere is very nice. This may have just been an off night.

It was truly something special. I understand the building is over 100 years old.it provided a warm friendly atmosphere where we could hold a conversation. The service was great. My water glass never got below 1/2 full and our waiter was knowledgeable. I cant say enough about the food, it was spectacular. I had the rack of lamb. Tastefully presented and cooked to perfection. Tender and flavorful. My wife had the chilian sea bass. It was creamy almost like eating a scallop. Best one Ive tasted. Our appetizers was calamari, my fallback favorite and theirs was special tender good flavor and not rubbery. We went there to celebrate my birthday and they went out of their way to make it a special event. Its not a place to go every night (although Id love too) but for those special events, I cant recommend it highly enough. Well be back for my wifes birthday and our anniversary. Lots of interesting things on the menu to explore.

I called to ask to make a reservation for the 31st over the phone to my surprise the guy who picked up my call was super rude to me for no reason!! His response was its a Sunday!! I then told him I thought they were going to be open since its New Years eve and and he continued saying Oh NO THANK GOD NO! In a very loud rude way... If you dont like your job I kindly ask you to please leave no one is forcing you to work there, especially for what I thought to be a high-quality restaurant. Wonderful experience! We recently celebrated our wedding anniversary here at The Patio on Guerra and had a an amazing time. We made a reservation and all went very smooth. We arrived to find out reserved table with a special welcome card for my wife and I. A very nice person touch. The appetizers were top quality and almost were meals unto themselves. We then followed the appetizers with our main entrees and they were another tremendous surprise. We had Steak and Salmon meals which were excellent. We were then surprised with a special dessert to cap out our experience. It was a nice ending to the meal. The service was professional, attentive and fast. It seemed like all the staff worked together to make for a special experience! All in all, we had an amazing time and highly recommend The Patio on Guerra.

One of the nicest places you can go in the whole RGV. The lighting is amazing and the mood is super calm this is a perfect place for a very romantic date. The patio is amazing and if it is cool outside they allow you to eat outside on the patio with a great view. The stake is the best I have ever had. Perfect medium rare all the way around, amazing char, super soft and buttery, and not overly spiced letting the steak shine through, deep and flavorful. You do have to make reservations at least one day in advanced and its pricey, but this place is so worth it. Wheelchair accessibility: Easy to access right next to the street and there are no stairs.

I had the most delightful dining experience at The Patio on Guerra, all thanks to our exceptional waiter Ruben! From the moment we were sat, he greeted us with a warm smile and made us feel right at home. We started our culinary journey with the steak tapas, and they were simply mouthwatering. But what truly impressed us was Rubens attentiveness to our preferences. My wife usually isnt a fan of fish unless its fried, but upon Rubens recommendation, she decided to try the pan seared Red Snapper. And let me tell you, she was blown away! The Red Snapper was cooked to perfection and had a flavor that left her wanting more. As for me, I ordered the Chilean Sea Bass with red curry sauce on the side, and it was a delightful choice. The fish was incredibly tender and paired beautifully with the red curry sauce. The presentation was impeccable, and every bite was a delight. Overall, our experience at The Patio on Guerra was fantastic, and it was largely thanks to Rubens outstanding service. His knowledge of the menu and his genuine enthusiasm for the dishes made our evening truly memorable. Our first visit for my wifes birthday celebration. We were pleasantly surprised, they greeted us at the door and wished her a Happy Birthday, they had made her a birthday card and placed birthday confetti on the table cloth. We enjoyed some drinks and excellent Calamari before ordering the Tomahawk Ribeye for two. The chef cut and served the ribeye at our table, which was nice. It was a fantastic meal. This little jewel was hidden from sight by a spacious courtyard. As we walked in, the space welcomed us warmly, directed us to the front door, and as we entered, wrapped around us drawing us in. We passed a bar area, a guitarist softly playing and singing, and happy looking couples engaged in food and conversation on our way to our table in the back corner. Perfect date night venue. Tables were spotlit with single red roses centered on crisp white tablecloths, servers were attentive without being fussy and the food - oh my goodness - this was our best eating adventure YET in the RGV! I ordered the duck and my husband ordered the quail (though Patio on Guerra is renowned for their Steak) and our meals DID NOT DISAPPOINT! THE QUAIL was amazing and the star of the night! The pace of the meal was luxurious, prompting us to linger and enjoy the music. We stayed and indulged, sharing a creme Brulee, a lovely glass of tawney Port and an espresso dressed with a lemon rind twist. We stopped at the bar on the way out, put in a song request and were sweetly serenaded as a final closing of our Patio on Guerra experience. A PERFECT ENDING. Leftovers made for a lovely lunch today and an opportunity to plan a second visit SOON to try the steak Diane. HIGH RECOMMEND.

It was my birthday celebration and our reserved table had a sign with happy birthday to me. Loved the cake they served. There were six of us and we ordered 2 orders of calamari and they were luscious! Great atmosphere, one of my favorite places!! We ve gone to several fancy restaurants and was looking forward all week for this dinner with my family. We were very disappointed with the service. It felt like we had no server but rather had some random people come up to the table to refill water, clear the plates, but not ask what we need. The reservation was for my husband s birthday but no dessert for the occasion while the other tables with birthday celebrants had a birthday dessert. We had to ask the person in charge of the dishes to get someone so we can order desserts considering we had two birthday celebrants. For the price you pay and the service you d get, I recommend going somewhere else.

I don t usually waste my time writing reviews but when I do, it s either I am very much pleased with a service or it s the complete opposite. I regret making a reservation in this restaurant. Had to wait for a few minutes for the hostess to seat us and when she did, she just left right away. She didn t even offer a sling nor high chair considering that she saw us come in with a baby in a car seat. My husband had to walk to the corner and grab one of the high chairs. No server came up to introduce themselves to us, instead it was the same hostess that sat us who took our orders and also tended the bar and the rest of the tables. We don t even know her name because she didn t introduce herself. The entire night we felt neglected, it would be more than 20mins before she comes back to see what we need and everytime she comes by, she is always in a rush. Before you could say anything, she s already gone. People would come by to the table just to refill waters and clear the dishes but no eye contact nor asking what we need. After we were done eating our meal, there was no follow up. We had to tell the guy who helps clear the table to call our server so I can at least request for desserts with a candle considering we had two birthday celebrants. Instead, they handed us a dessert menu. We decided to just leave because the entire family were already annoyed and frustrated. And of course, an 18% gratuity was already added to the bill. I m generous when it comes to tipping but that service was not even worth a dollar. I felt we could have gotten better service at a sit-down restaurant. Would not recommend this place to anyone and would definitely not come back. The food was decent but the bad service outweighed our overall experience.

My gf and I visited here on a fresh and breezy night so we decided to eat outside and enjoy the weather. It was the perfect atmosphere for a romantic date. We started with the ceviche appetizer and it was delicious. I havent had ceviche like that in a very long time. Plenty of flavor. My gf had the fettuccine Alfredo with potatoes on the side and I chose the Cordon Bleu with asparagus. She said she enjoyed her food well but I cant speak to much to that. What I can say is that I thoroughly enjoyed my food. It was damn near perfect. In Afghanistan when we had cordon Bleu it was a luxury night haha. It took me back and I can say my meal was delicious and definitely better than Army food. The mixture of the cheese and meats was just perfect and the texture was perfect to me. The asparagus was cooked the way I liked it as well. Not to much where its flimsy. If you ask me though the highlight of my night was the cheesecakes. We got the New York Style Cheesecakes topped with Berry Compote and Mexican Caramel. It was so delicious and we just had to take some home with us to enjoy later. Overall the service from the minute we stepped in to the moment we left was perfect. We never had to ask for drinks or help with anything. The staff was very attentive and perfect. Ill definitely be back and will recommend people to come here. Parking: Parking is limited right in front of the restaurant but there is a parking garage nearby.

The service was excellent. We ate outside since one of our party needs to be super careful about covid right now. It was too warm & humid outside, but its south Texas, and you cant control the weather. The food was delicious, and the company sparkling. We had a lovely night. The shrimp was prepared perfectly, and my friend who had the duck really enjoyed it. They make great potatoes, too. Vegetarian options: I didnt see any purely vegetarian menu items (unless chocolate cake counts, and its delicious!), but I didnt ask either. They have several pescatarian choices, so thats good for me.

We had been there and have had great experiences. My Dad took his staff for Xmas Dinner last year and continues to treat people to this Restaurant. I ordered a Ribeye cooked medium well. I typically order medium. Anyway, my Steak came out well-done. I was not happy with it at all. The main Server stated he would bring me another one but I wanted to eat with my Sister and Family together. She had just come State-side from Jerusalem. The Server did provide Dessert for the Table but I was disappointed in the Steak.

The staff is ridiculously rued. The host is no help at not allowing walk-ins , even on on a persons birthday. When we asked to speak to the manager they refused and said the most they could do is sit us at the bar. The managers clearly have no respect for their customers and allow hosts to be rude to their guest. Keep in mind the entire restaurant was EMPTY. I used to love this place but i am NEVER going back due to the managers being so unprofessional and weak minded.

Enjoyed the 6oz steak, mashed potatoes and bourbon peppercorn sauce. Enjoyable setting. Would of given 5 stars but staff just not that engaged. Maybe it is a COVID thing. So hard to find exceptional service even from a $$$$ rated establishment. Update 06/18/22: Wife and I returned but, to just sit on the patio, have a drink and a quick appetizer while listening to their live music. Sadly, we were again faced with unhospitable staff. From the hostess to our waitress, Annette. They just seem as if it is bother to have to wait on customers.
