Great library and greater staff. Whole family loves going here. We are from Mercedes and come here about 3-4 times a month. Great activities for kids and teens. Enjoy doing summer reading programs each year. Lots of mangas. Coffee shop with baked goods and a used book shop. Can check our movies and games for Xbox, play station and Nintendo switch.

The childrens area is very empty. They hardly have anything for kids to enjoy. All they have had is a handful of Legos, 2 magnetic maze things, 3 vehicles, a basket of play food and a toddler play block/cube. Thats it. It can be hardly be called a childrens area.

Staff is the worst, I was at the teen area to study. The staff there where laughing loudly and chatting they had the door open so the rest of the library outside could hear them. After letting them know to lower it down after a couple of minutes they continued to laugh loudly again. Not only was I being disrupted but many other people there where also getting stressed out. Please have a talk with your staff, very disappointed.

Got Kick Out Of The Library For Reading A Book!!! Nobody comes here to read books there just for show. People only come to hangout Just CALL it a Boys and Girls Club or Remove All The Books Call It A Convention Center Saw the art exhibit just a Musical where place come to die. My Tax should just go else where. The Only good thing was the guy in the front he was so nice and polite he made my day after the matter what happen.

This is definitely a go to place in the Valley. The library has a huge selection, its own separate youth and children s sections, video games, Spanish section and coffee shop. The whole building is about the size of a Walmart. The only drawback is that it does not have much Christian fiction that my wife enjoys.

It is a beauty building, but little attention was paid to making it a quiet place to read. The reception desks use intercoms to compensate for the plexiglass barriers, so those conversations echo throughout the library. To exacerbate the noise problem, the staff doesn t bother to enforce typical library etiquette, nor do they abide by it themselves. In my latest visit someone was in a Zoom meeting on one side, while two staff members chatted (not quietly) on the other side of me, and not far away a construction worker on break watched a movie on his phone before he fell asleep, snoring.

Nice library. Great computer department, easy, convenient, friendly helpful staff. It has a quick station that doesnt require a library card. Print, fax, scanning capabilities. Note, if you need to scan youll need to have a usb drive. Also, BE SURE to log out and close your tabs, others will have access to it when using the same computer. It still shows up in recent activity and there are those who will try to log into your information. May not be the same on the main computers. Library card required access usually has a pass code only you know so your information is more secure. Quick access however, is open to anyone so be aware.

A lovely Library and the largest single floor libraries in the country! And every once in a while the library hosts a table top game day. In the large meeting Hall A and B. All trading card games MTG, board games and such. A real benefit for the Rio Grande Valley and especially the City of McAllen, the McAllen Public Library has several large conference rooms many private smaller conference rooms that made be reserved for use by the public. A venue for many events of learning and culture for the valley. Especially during this period of quarantine.

Good public library. Overall, I never found this location less conducive to study compared to other libraries. City public libraries usually cater to the general public of course! They have an expansive collection of fiction books and it can be overwhelming. Theres always something fun to find or read here. A good collection of books in Spanish as well. For the nonfiction, too many of the books here feel dated. Id recommend anyone browsing here to try the STC library which is open to the public. Always felt this to be the weakness of this library. Good chunk of the library is dedicated to kids books which is awesome. Id say a third of this place is. Its a good mission that theres so many accessible books for the young ones.
