One of our favorite dining spots when were in McAllen. Great service, romantic atmosphere, and yummy food. It was our 39th wedding anniversary, and the crew went all-out with free bubbly and a card signed by the staff.

I was so impressed by this place! Went with a friend and our server let us both try a couple different wines we were interested in before we selected a glass. We also got the baked Brie appetizer which came with a delicious homemade caramel sauce and then split the carbonara pasta which had a nice kick to it. Everything was delicious and then because our main dish took a little while to come out (no big deal to us), they were kind enough to give us the lemon cheesecake. Our server was attentive and friendly and the atmosphere was cozy. They have a good happy hour deal too. Will definitely go back!

Great times with beautiful friends at House Wine Bistro! We started the evening with a jarcuterie and delectable beef ravioli, paired perfectly with a glass of Prosecco. Next, we indulged in the stuffed shrimp with salmon, mustard aioli, and fennel, accompanied by a glass of Sauvignon Blanc from Emmolo. The highlight of the evening was the sea bass served with citrus risotto and caper lime beurre blanc - a definite favorite! Paired with a glass of CabernetPinot Noir from Olema. For the grand finale, we savored the Sirloin Marsala with roasted vegetables and wild mushrooms, paired with a Sauvignon from Cultivar. To end on a sweet note, we delighted in the decadent Bombolini dessert - creamy with a delightful blackberry puree. A culinary experience to cherish! Thank you, Chef Larry Delgado, for creating an unforgettable evening. Happy birthday Luz!

Lovely interior, crisp service, delicious dishes. But youll have to shout at your table companions, esp if you sit along the wall (the sound bounces). Good bottle of chianti classico. The Italian margarita was very lemony and bright. My friend had a drink with campari. She liked it. The mushroom soup was exquisite. Very fresh and innovative, rich and creamy, full flavored with bits of mushrooms and a great touch of blue cheese which made a wonderful contrast of sharp flavor against the dark smoothness of the soup. The baked brie appetizer had a generous mix of nuts and fresh woodland berries and a great piece of cheese. The pastry was thin and crisp and completely ruined by being drowned in caramel sauce. It wasnt a drizzle. It was enough for sundae. It swamped the rich warm flavor of the brie the way hyper sweet toppings on a Starbucks crushes the coffee flavor. It needed a light drizzle of some sort of berry sauce instead to keep the dish light and flavorful. The small house salad is a good size. You could throw some shrimp on it for a great lunch. Delicious mix. The lamb was a generous portion with a good mix of greens and some berries to compliment the flavor. The others had duck and a shrimp and pasta dish. I didnt try the duck but the shrimp was big, meaty and perfectly cooked. The desserts were had were the cheesecake and the bombolini, some kind of pastry balls with ganache. I didnt like the texture of the cheesecake; it seemed lumpy. But the lavender granite was amazing! Great texture, surprising flavor. Id love a whole dish of just that. The ganache was intensely rich and delicious, and the prosecco whip was scrumptious. But no espresso?! Over all, a terrific dinner.

The food and service were good but unfortunately I was not a very big fine of the atmosphere. The dining room is kind of packed and not too intimate. It gets really loud since the areas are not sectioned off from each other, so you need to be talking over the crowd. I still had a nice time though and enjoyed myself.

Valentines bummer The first and last time I go to this restaurant. Our tab was $270.00 (without tip), which was 100% what I expected when I made the reservation but the experience fell way short of my expectation, specifically with the food and organization. It was so obvious this restaurant bit way more than what they could chew when it came to hosting the amount of people that they did. At the lobby I heard the receptionist say im sorry we had guest stay an over hour more than we expected at a minimum 15 times. It was kind of annoying hearing that. I opted for the $250 valentines dinner a week in advance yet when we showed up we were given a menu as if we were walk-ins. If Im paying that kind of money I expected to be seated and served what I reserved in advance, not wait for the server to hand a menu, bounce, attend to his tables, and come back and ask what we wanted. (not a big deal). After a notable wait time, our appetizers came in and started strong with six delicious fried oysters. (no big deal its a holiday its obviously busy and the apps were good). Things went downhill with the beef tomato salad, literally two fat slices of tomato with mozzarella slices, cucumber slices and salad dressing (LOL) what a joke, the Cobb Salad at chick-fil-a is way better. (whatever we werere expecting bomb-a** steak next) *reminded our waiter about the bottle of wine (he forgot, no biggie) we get it right away but it wasnt even a full size bottle, (okay whatever, nothing to cry about) Then came the steak, which was one steak to be shared between two people. This was an curveball because we were each asked how we wanted our steak, giving the impression that two steaks were headed our way. Wrong, we were given one steak to share. The table next to use literally complained about the same thing so at this point I was convinced we were not being uptight, and it started to feel like I was ripped off. Also we wanted our steak a little red in the middle so we asked for medium rare, our server recommended medium, so we accepted his recommendation yet our steak came out fully cooked. The dessert was disappointing as well, it was a hard-ish brownie with jelly that felt like it came straight from an HEB bottle of jam. All said and done, the whole experience felt overpriced. I felt like the plate should have been worth $200.00. This review strictly reflect the restaurants organization, price and overall taste. Half the meal was great ( steak and oysters), the salad and dessert was rubbish. My waiter was great, nothing against him. Im sorry I only tipped $30.00, I just cannot justify paying 15% of the overpriced total which was like $43.00.

I made reservations for valentines day here 2/14/24 and the experience was not the greatest for my wife and I. We arrived at 6:45 and knew exactly what we wanted to eat, so we had our order in by 6:55 shortly after we were sat right in front of the restrooms (which in all honesty seemed like a hasty decision to add a small table there in a small corner where every single person was bumping into my wifes chair and table to get past us to the restroom). We got our Calamari in a timely fashion and it was absolutely delicious. Unfortunately I cannot say the same about our butternut squash risottos. The main dishes did not come out until around 8:10. Our candle on the table had even died during our wait which was tragically funny. Right before the food got to our table, my wife and I had had already decided to take the food to go. Ultimately, it felt like we were forgotten about in said corner in front of the restrooms because we would see all the risottos going out to the bigger parties that were sat at the same time as us. Thats the first half what went wrong. The second part was finally sitting down to eat in our home and finding out the risotto and butternut squash were both undercooked. We could tell because the squash was as hard as uncooked carrots and the risotto was crunchy. Not a good experience after having had dental work done. We have eaten here before and know for a fact that this is not the standard that has been set in the past. Albeit being Valentines Day, I understand things can be lagging behind a bit in a kitchen. But if were paying over 80 dollars and it takes an hour to be delivered undercooked food, then we will refrain from coming back in the future. The initiative from management shouldve been to resolve the situation, or at the very least talk to us. But the manager that delivered our plates simply took our food back, wrapped it up to go and called it a day. Needless to say the server was still well tipped because the issue was not with her service per se, but more so the entire experience.

My husband and I were in town visiting family & we stumbled across House.Wine.Bistro in looking for a place to have a quick drink . And man, we are SO happy we did! Chantelle & Ethan at the bar were so welcoming and made the absolute best recommendations for both food & drinks. We had such a great time on our first visit, we quite literally returned less than 24 hours later for our Saturday night dinner! The Owner & Chef, Larry, came out and introduced himself - you can tell he & his team take great pride in everything they do truly the embodying the definition of hospitality. We cannot recommend enough House. Wine. Bistro. On top of the amazing hospitality, the homemade pasta is quite simply something you dream of If you are in the area, it is a definite must we already cannot wait to visit again (:

House Wine & Bistro in McAllen is an absolute gem! Ive been coming here for the past 10 years, and its always been a hit. During my recent visit, our group enjoyed an exceptional dining experience. We ordered a variety of dishes, including the grilled panela, putanesca risotto with pan-seared salmon, lamb chops, ribeye, and pesce risotto. Everything was outstanding. The only minor hiccup was that the putanesca risotto was a bit on the salty side, but the staff was quick to address the issue, exemplifying their commitment to customer satisfaction. This level of service truly sets House Wine & Bistro apart. And, I cant forget to mention that the Italian donuts were absolutely amazing - the perfect sweet ending to a fantastic meal. To complement our meal, we ordered a bottle of Susana Balbo Malbec, which paired beautifully with the dishes. If youre looking for a reliable spot for excellent food and a delightful dining experience, House Wine & Bistro is the place to be. Ten years of consistently great visits speak volumes about the quality and excellence you can expect here. Five stars all the way!

Getting to a table is challenging as the tables are so close they leave little to no room to walk thru. We sat at a round table for ten, it was difficult to have a conversation due to it being too loud due to other patrons. We were served a five course meal, the servers were very knowledgeable and friendly. I was not impressed with the pairing given every wine was too sour. Possibly this should be an acquired taste. Cheese and charcuterie was great, insalata was good except wine was too sour for me, the antipasto salmon was good a little on the salty side, the wine was too sour, the grilled picanha was delicious, the wine was much better than previously served wines, the pork chop Marsala was a low grade cut of pork, too much uneatable fat embedded in the pork, wine was OK, the cookie dough was too dry, the Kahlua gran marinier was so strong I couldnt drink it.

Update September 2023: Huge decline in food taste. Both the Cacio E Pepe and Bistecca were extremely salty. To the point we threw the leftovers, which were almost the entire plate in the dumpster in the back. Both pastas were, to my taste, undercooked. Huge disappointment as I had recommended House Wine to my friend who is celebrating her birthday and had never been there. I don t think I will ever be returning as the prices continue to rise as the quality goes down. The staff was very attentive and helpful though. Original Review: Love the atmosphere! I ve been there several times over the years, and have even seen 2 proposals! The service is always great and so is the food. Never disappoints. Although the prices have seen several hikes over time. Love the Grilled Shrimp Appetizers, just wish the price would go back down on them. Parking: Parking lot is the back of the restaurant, cramped and difficult to exit. It s shared with other restaurants.

Im a sucker for a good steak, and House Wine & Bistro did not disappoint. The ribeye was cooked perfectly medium rare, and the flavor was out of this world. The meat was so tender that it melted in my mouth, and the juices just oozed out. The service was also excellent. Our waiter was attentive and knowledgeable, and he made sure that we had everything we needed. He even recommended a bottle of red wine that was the perfect pairing for our steak. The chef even stopped by the table to say hello. He was genuinely interested in our experience, and he took the time to answer our questions about the menu. Overall, it was a wonderful experience and a memorable event. I highly recommend House Wine & Bistro to anyone looking for a great steak dinner.

Changing my review from 5 stars to 1. Was one of my favorite places. Last 3 visits were really bad. They keep modifying the menu and changes are not always good. Started years back when they deconstructed the benoffee, changed the brie, removed the Primavera risotto, and now they put their hands on the beloved bee sting. It is GROSS now!! Not bee sting anymore.. not spicy and sweet like you would imagine a bee sting would taste like.. its SALTY, messy, and unappealing. They keep changing the name of the original stroganoff on the menu that started as a feature. Mcallen burger has become VERY salt. The pasta and shrimp is NASTY.. needs freshness- little lemon zest never hurt anyone... pasta tastes like shrimp . Idk whos cooking and I dont care if the chef beat Bobby Flay. They have forgotten what good food should taste like. I dont care about status, I care about good food. There is no reason for me to come back here. They have taken and changed everything I like. They have sacrificed quality in an attempt to be unique with poor execution. Ill never recommend this place again.

Very nice place to try good Italian food. The service was very fast, prices are a bit high but its totally worth it. We got a Mezcal shot that was very very good (it was made out of an agave called Madre Cuixe), the waitress helped us to choose some of our dishes and everything was delicious. As appetizers we got the mushrooms (which come with some Italian sausage) and the bee sting spianata which even though it comes with honey habanero, its not spicy at all, the sweetness and spiciness is very sutil. To eat we got the lamb chops which were very tender and perfectly cooked, it comes with a salad that was also very good. On the other hand we got the Pasta Salcicce which was also extremely good. No wonder why this restaurant is one of the top across all eateries in McAllen. Vegetarian options: The vegetarian options are reduced, the only one I saw was the Panela cheese which comes with pesto, although its an appetizer, however, Im pretty sure that they can prepare something special if there are any dietary restrictions.

We set up a double date night at house wine. We initially had the sangria and Brie cheese. Wine was good, you can t go wrong with sangria , not impressed with Brie on how they prepare it with a crust on top. You couldn t enjoy the true flavor of Brie it was very sweet, when I mentioned it to waitress she said some people order it as a dessert. I m sure it also had some honey as well on top , I felt as if I was having a honey flaky biscuit with cheese. My husband had a pasta dish with shrimp basically just sauce on pasta with 4 shrimps. Tall tables offer uncomfortable seating not the correct positioning to eat at the right angle seats were so low our plates so high. Basing review just on my experience not my friends who we invited but they did make some comments regarding their salmon which didn t seem satisfying. Unfortunately we weren t enjoying the whole experience that we decided to eat and go elsewhere. We wanted to stay n enjoy drinking post dinner but the mood was due to our expectations was shot . Only good thing was our waitress was polite and attentive. Would we take another couple there Again the answer is no . I can think of several places with delicious food, ambiance and drinks without the expensive bill. My husband and I felt stupid when we walked out we definitely over paid for blah food.

I had the soup of the day which was a delicious vegetable medley with beans and the Fennel Sausage Pasta which was excellent. The pasta was perfectly al dente. There was a mix of small groups and single tables as well as a couple of noisy parties as you d expect. Monday s are quieter evidently. We ll be back.

The perfect ambiance for a nice dinner and great conversation! I will be rating the items from 1 (bad) to 5 (best) ** We selected several STARTERS: PANELA (5/5) The grilled panela cheese is delicious with the basil pesto! CRAB CAKES (4/5) The taste was great but not the best Ive had. If you love crab cakes, you wont be disappointed. CHARCUTERIE BOARD (2/5) Presentation is great, but I found it very lacking. I would not order again. ** I had two different COCKTAILS: STRAWBERRY BELLINI (5/5) If you like sweet, refreshing cocktails, you will love this one! I had two. SANGRIA (3/5) Standard, good sangria, but nothing memorable. ** Main ENTREE: PUTANESCA RISOTTO (4/5) The salmon was exquisite but I wasnt a fan of so much risotto. I did not know what to expect, but now I do! ** 3 different DESSERTS: CHEESECAKE (5/5) It is perfection with blueberries and a touch of lavender VANILLA CRÈME BRÛLÉE (5/5) It is delicious and perfect for sharing BRIE (5/5) I dont personally like it but my date loved it! Vegetarian options: Cheeses

We need amazing food like this in Austin. Garlic Lime Shrimp and Tuna Tacos are my favorite!!!! I love the duck too. Strawberry Bellini and Tincho are delicious!!!

I would pay more to invest in store bought items to make this food myself. Parking: Full of potholes, dark and the stench of the bins was atrocious Wheelchair accessibility: Hard to maneuver wheel chair around tables and over-sized unsightly couch.

Always an amazing experience at House Wine & Bistro. Extraordinary atmosphere with the best professional staff and some of the best food in The Valley. I always make sure to stop by when I am in town. Definitely a destination in McAllen. If you have not stopped in, please do yourself a favor and drop in. Worth your time and money. Parking: Best place to park is right behind the location. Plenty of parking.

Was traveling for work and decided to stop here based on Trip Advisor reviews. Was going to go to Salt but so glad I didn t (that ll be another review!) I made a reservation just in case but was able to be seated promptly. The service was fantastic and the food was divine! I took the servers and managers recommendations and they didn t disappoint. The Yahweh salad is soooo good, the lime shrimp, the drink, dessert, all of it was fantastic! I m sad I didn t go back here the next night! I ve learned my lesson! Management also comes around and talks to you. They don t just ask you if your food is okay, they talk to you like you re a long lost friend. I appreciated it. And the temperature in the restaurant was nice and cool. Will definitely be going back here!

Located right in the middle of McAllen next to Philly 77 is this unassuming, but amazing restaurant. While it is not exclusively an Italian restaurant, I HIGHLY recommend you try their italian food. The risotto in particular is superb and their wine menu is quite expansive. Their prices are extremely reasonable given the quality of the food. This is as much a formal as it is a semi-formal place for a nice night out.

They were not stingy about the quality of food and wine! Loved the tiger garlic shrimp, ribeye, lamb chops, salmon pasta, creme brulee, cheesecake, and the pesto that came with the charcuterie board.
