Very nice State Park. Visit in Spring or Fall. Summers is too hot and humid. Lots of very easy hiking trails. Great primitive camping spots if your willing to hike in about 1/4 mile. They are right on the creek. RV spot are great and somewhat private. The creek is large, more like a river. Great paddling for as many miles as you want to go. Flow is not strong, so paddling upstream is easy. The park rents canoes, kayaks, and paddle boards. Plan mosquito protection. They can be bad in the woods. Not bad out on the creek. Toilets: Clean restrooms with showers. Picnic area: Peaceful picnic areas with tables and grills.

Village Creek State Park is one of the most beautiful state parks in the area! We visited to get an idea for a planned camping trip for my church Royal Rangers class and I was very impressed with the park. Their picnic areas are very nice with a few amenities in the park. They have an area for RVs and primitive camping as well. They also have an area for fishing and swimming. There is so much nature to see when you visit. I highly recommend this state park for your next camping trip. Toilets: Very nice clean restrooms. Dog-friendliness: There is an area set aside for pets. Picnic area: There are many picnic areas for daily visit and for overnight visits.

A really nice, small park. Emphasis on small. There are only about 20 camper spots that are really great and clean spots, but also very close together. All the staff that we encountered were very nice. We did most of the trails which were in pretty good condition, although some of them were hard to bike because of deep sand. We didnt get in the creek, but definitely would like to come back and do the paddle trail. Not much to the playground area, just some swings and a couple of digging tools. The nature center was pretty quaint (like most of the park). The bathrooms are close and kept VERY clean and cool. Kudos to whoever takes care of the bathrooms. This really improves the rating of the park.

Very nice park with super friendly staff, nice trails, and camping. We had no trouble getting into our site but they are a little close. Could barely let out the awning. We don t have slides but I could see that being a problem in our specific site. With the stair step sites you feel closer to other sites than you are. Overall, though it s a great park and campground with lots to do within driving distance. Toilets: Very clean restrooms with clean showers.

Stayed in the campground for 2 weeks. We enjoyed our stay overall but took one stay away because the sites are so close together. The way they are staggered there is no privacy outside of your rig. When we opened our door the fireplace & picnic table of the space next to us were right there. The same for ours with the camper behind us. The trails were nice & the staff was super friendly & helpful! The bathrooms were the best we have seen in our travels! Flush toilets that were always clean & always stocked. Showers were spacious, clean & had plenty of hooks for your stuff. Water got hot quickly & stayed hot. Not the fault of the park, but the weekends get busy. The 2nd weekend we were there, a bunch of young girls were camping in tents. There were no adults supervising in the bathrooms & they were in there making a giant mess & literally screaming. They were having a contest to see who could be the highest pitch, they said that, let s see who can get the highest. So beware, once the rangers leave there is no one to handle anything. Playground: Small one in the back where most of the trails are. Toilets: Wonderful! Flush toilets & showers were amazing! One of the best bathrooms we have seen. Dog-friendliness: Dogs welcome on leash Picnic area: Places to picnic in the back!

There is a swimming hole and a place to kayak, but beware of gators ( though I hear they are a rare sight). Toilets: Some of the nicest bathrooms Ive seen at a state park. Dog-friendliness: Great trail to take your dog on but beware if snakes and gators around the open water. There are also cliffs and steep inclines and declines so you may want to watch your fur babys steps

25 rv sites, 1 large cabin, tent camping at all rv spots as well as remote (w nearby water). Smallest but cleanest state park we ve visited camp host, Marshall does a great job. Good hiking trails 1/2 to 2 miles long along Village Creek with nice sandy beach in a few spots. Walmart a mile away. Spots are deep but close together is the biggest drawback. We were here in November, few bugs. Basically a convenient park, not really a wilderness park.

The park is small and quaint. Unfortunately if you use the primitive campsites it is a bit far to the portapotty and they tend to be full. The views are beautiful and otherwise its a great state park. One other downside is not the parks fault they have some noisy neighbors who start blasting music, usually bad music, at about 10pm on Saturdays. I cant fault the park but I just want park goers to be aware. The 4 stars is because the portapotty situation costs them the star.

Really cute small State Park. Primitive campsites a bit of a walk from parking on a sandy trail. Little bit of challenge if you have bad ankles or mobility problems. Electric/water/rv sites are not spacious to sides of drive, but do go back behind drive. Some screening from neighbors but not alot. May be issue if camping with dogs. Look at pictures on park website I didnt explain well. Bathroom was clean. Swimming area is down a trail that is marked as challenging, I didnt walk it. Lots of walking & biking trails. Was there on a Wednesday afternoon so it wasnt busy.

I hate to rate this a 3, but had some issues. Lets go through the good first. Easy location to get to - not too far off of 10 and close to Lumberton. The park hosts are great!! Talked with them for a bit and they helped us put when we were in a bit of a bind. Bathrooms are clean and noise levels in the campground are at a minimum after dark. Pull-in sites have a nice asphalt driveway and gravel plot to pitch a tent. Fire pits have a bbq griddle and nice seating. On to the not so good. Park office closes at 430, amd as far as I can tell, is the only place in Lumberton to buy firewood (note the irony). Luckily the camp hosts let us have some of theirs otherwise we would have been eating cold food amd without anything to do. Suggest that the park changes to the honor system if they do not intend to staff the locked gate 24/7. Sites are a bit close together, and if youre looking to escape your neighbors, youll need to look elsewhere Overall happy with our stay due to the hosts, 50-50 if well be back. Dog-friendliness: Camp is dog friendly and have plenty of pooches running around.

Nice quiet well maintained smaller park. We RVd a couple days on the way to another destination. Majority of the pads are pretty level and long enough to accomodate trailer and truck. Each has a very tall metal ring contained firepit with benches, picnic table and large tent pad. Sites are a little close but some have trees between or angled for a some privacy. Our Roku worked fine using Verizon hotspot. Antenna only gets 2 channels. The bathroom was super clean. Multiple maintained trails. Canoes, kayaks and paddleboards for rent. However there was a posting that there is high levels of Mercury in the creek so not sure I would get in the water nor eat any fish. No fishing pier, but a sandy bank down a slope to fish from. Sign said firewood available. There is a very interesting longleaf pine tree restoration project underway. That was great to see. Ask the office staff for details.

Stayed a week, full 7 days and enjoyed every minute of it. Minus the 80° to 40° temperature change and rain. We also had cub scouts come during our stay. All in all had a great trip! Stayed on site 2. It was handicapped and someone moved the table to the tent pad. Since the photos on the site were posted. Most of the sites are very small. So if you have a big rig with a lot of slide outs be wary. The nature center was closed for remodeling. The bathrooms were in walking distance. They had 2 showers. The beach/swimming area was a let down as there was no where to sit once you walked the mile to get to it. The staff was very nice. Great park! Saw a few deer, and even a snake. Playground: They did have a small playground with swings and a digging thing. Toilets: Had restrooms with showers and portable toilets for day use and walk-in camping. I stayed in primative site 40. Its the furthest out and very secluded. There is fresh water about 80ft down the trail. I will say its a bit of a trek in at maybe a 10th mile. The path is sand and your cart will dig in quite a bit making the journey a tough one if your loaded up or have narrow wheels. The bathrooms here are portable units, thats a major deduction for the campground but at the very least they can say they have bathrooms. The main, and only real bath and shower is to be found back near the entrance. It is very small with 2 showers and a few stalls. The campground over all is unpaved and composed mainly of rock and alabaste. As for the activities they do have canoes and trails to hike, though the lake is down quite a lot its still enough to get out on and move around. Lastly the general store and check in has virtually nothing so if you forget something youll need to drive out to thier HEB which is about 8mins away.

Pretty park but small. Water was down and fishing wasnt good due to the snags in the creek. I would recommend the park for younger people as parts of the park are hard to navigate for disabled people. Very nice staff.

One night stop on our six week RV trip. Middle of the week so the Park was almost empty. Easy check-in, nice Rangers on duty and who stopped by later to help us with a water problem. Sites are asphalt with plenty of distance between. Ours had a picnic table, plus an area with an L shaped bench to sit along with a fire pit. Only water and electric, no sewer or wifi. Bath house was dated but very clean. We did a short hike between the rain to the water. Nice warning sign Venomous Snakes and Poisonous Plants warned hikers as they approached the water. The actual RV park is well laid out, plenty of shade, but shame the rain kept us from enjoying the outdoors more. Worth a second visit.

The parking for the RV is interesting in that they are our stair-stepped meaning year above your neighbor 3 ft and Below another neighbor 350. But it causes a good separation. The access for canoeing and kayaking was rough in my opinion and would be treacherous for older person carrying a canoe. And as far as I could tell thats all there was to do at the day use besides trails.

Nice drive from Conroe Texas. Loved it. Staff is helpful and friendly. Campsite was clean and spacious. We did the bike trails to the swimming beach, numerous times. Did an afternoon of kayaking, peaceful and easy.. Tried lure fishing from kayaks ,saw a mess of jumping fish but not a catch. Had fun trying to. Perfect family park. Will definitely return.

Public park with hiking trails, mountain biking, camping stands, and they also have kayak rentals. Access is only by private car. The cost of parking is $4 and there are fees for camping and cabin rentals. Excellent for those who want outdoor activities nearby.

This park and the other units of the Big Thicket are incredible. The botanical diversity is awe-inspiring. The park is very quite, other then all the noise from the birds and insects. The sites are rather small, and the tent pads are for one or two small tents only. We enjoyed our stay here, even if the park host seamed a little overzealous. Maybe thats a good thing. Treat yourself to a book about the Bigfoot and other paranormal legends from around the Big Thicket while camping there, it makes it much more interesting.

We love this park and hike here all the time. There are lots of trails and camping areas. They just opened The Village Creek Trail again. Nice trail but the BUGS were biting, horse flies and some other biting bugs (not mosquitoes) definitely come prepared with some bug spray! We usually dont have those issues though when we hike the other trails.

Swim area recently reopened, but its a long wooded hike from the boat launch, an enormous distance from the electric campsites. There are no signs to direct you, and, after hiking several miles we gave up hope locating it. We would have gotten assistance from a park ranger today, but we were in a day to day rental and we were unable to stay because site 11 had a burst underground water line and the park ranger said they had move to our site so an excavator could get in. By the time we rushed to pack up and get out of the way, I guess because it was a holiday weekend, no excavator, they were digging by hand, and 11 never had to move, so some lucky procrastinator is going to find an open site for the holiday. Its a beautiful tiny park with great kayak access. LOADS of shade. Good trails, (although some are still closed from hurrican damage) bathhouse is pristine and restoration of the damaged land us evident and ongoing. EXTREMELY kind and helpful staff. CAUTION: DONT Park on, in,near the grass. While most parks allow in on the campsite, VC does NOT. PLease park in designated parking areas.

The place is very nice. On the small side, with the campsites fairly close. Most are very level. We stayed in a 25 foot class C and had plenty of room. Staff is friendly and accommodating. One star off only for the exit being locked until 8am. Much too late for travelers like us...

The good: This park makes for an easy day trip from Houston if youre wanting to scratch it off of your list. The staff/rangers that I encountered were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The park is very clean and well maintained. The price is right. $4/per person for a day pass. The not so good: As of the time of this review (April 2022), the 2 largest trails are closed. Of the trails that are open, they are pretty short. Some have also had recent controlled burns and other maintenance done which makes it a bit like walking through a field. Overall if the purpose of your visit is to picnic, bike, canoe etc, you will probably enjoy your time here. If youre hoping to get in some miles on the trails, Id advise to call ahead and see which trails are closed.

I am absolutely obsessed with this state park! My daughter and I have been here quite a few times with our dog, but today my husband was able to tag along. We ended up bumping into a park ranger who gave our daughter a temporary tattoo and she loves it! We will definitely continue to take the trails here! Theyre very clear and easily accessible, even for my 2 year old.

Electric sites are not great for tent camping. Sites extremely close together. Loud, but on par with typical state park behaviors. Zero birds at my site and several trails are closed. Firewood is for sale only during office hours and they close at 4:30. You can t get it yourself. No honor box. Wood is locked up. Stayed at CE001 by the host. This site did have a level spot for a tent and a bit of woods to face while reading.

Love this park! We camped over the weekend in the walk in primitive camp and it was beautiful. The campsites were clean and cared for and were well furnished. You can rent canoes and kayaks to explore the river, though this was suspended because the water level was too high. We will be coming back later when they are available. One warning though, there are people that live across the lake and the Friday night we were there they were blasting music until 4am. The music was ok, but if you think that may be annoying Id recommend bringing your own portable speaker or earplugs if you are a light sleeper. Happy camping!
