There was high traffic and lack of adequate parking but it was totally worth it. All houses had a theme of lighting and the designs were very unique and interesting. Go upto George Bushs house where it ends.

Absolutely enchanting! A stroll through River Oaks during the holidays feels like stepping into a fairytale. The majestic oak trees and stunning mansions wrapped in colorful lights create a magical atmosphere. Residents extravagant displays draw visitors from across the city. To enjoy the Christmas display, you can park roadside and walk around the area, just make sure of the no parking zone. You can also just drive around and check out the area. During weekends, the area gets very busy. There are also pedal parties for this occasion. One problem is that there is no restroom facilities over there. For that you have to go to nearby markets or gas stations. But the gas station staff are not that much willing to let you use the restroom. Still its a must-see experience that captures the holiday spirit in the most breathtaking way. Cant recommend it enough!

Traffic is bad, but its okay. Better to walk, but honestly its better to go to other of the neighborhoods for Xmas lights. Its nice to admire the house, not so much the Xmas lights. But its free so thats a plus.

I saw this a few times. This year it seemed like not as many houses participated as in the previous years. This is still worth checking out and you don t need a tour guide or anything. You can park along the street then walk around. Just park in the same area as other people if you re unsure. Just a tip, make sure you explore the main area as well as some side streets. Some of the decorated houses are kind of hidden.

Spectacular display of lights! The night I went, the weather was perfect. It is fun for the whole family. As I drove by, I saw so many family and friends enjoying the display of the lights. What a wonderful evening. Our Church Bible class put together a beautiful, tasty dinner followed by a Houston Christmas Light bus expedition that showed how much fun it is to be a Christian. This is, indeed, for many reasons, the happiest time of the year. Christmas lights everywhere, decorations, friends and family dinners, concerts, and reunions, all to celebrate the birth anniversary of our Lord Jesus Christ. What a wonderful time. Very beautiful lights! We got there at 11pm, and some residents had turned their lights off for the night. I will be going back earlier. Its great to drive thru, but walking is better. This is a private neighborhood, so theres no street parking, per se. Just dont leave your car parked on any one block for too long

Cool to look at. But traffic is CRAZY BAD and we almost got into a couple fender benders, even at low speeds, since theres no direction. Also quite risky for pedestrians, who often have to dash across traffic to get to the next block. Its a great display, but Id recommend parking your car somewhere else, walking over, and keeping your head on a swivel.

Rude tour guide on Mister McKinneys River Oaks Christmas LightTour. All adults must provide their own personal email and cellphone #, not just 1 for all members of the same household (though supposedly not for marketing). When I questioned this he later approached 2 members of my party separately to ask if I was gonna be a problem and 1 had to vouch for me to allow me on the bus. Mandatory tips of at least 20% were collected to begin the tour. He asked for guests to like his page and when he singled me out by name I said well see since I wanted to see what it was like 1st. After pointing out the owners of many mansions and one we wouldnt see some questions were asked about if we would see the homes of some particular people and he said he didnt take requests, it was a set route, but no requests were made, just questions. He pointed out a high rise and some famous residents and I asked about Former President Bush and he said he couldnt know everything about everyone and I was only allowed 1 more question. Returning to the parking lot he asked for a show of hands for who had learned anything or liked the tour. When I sat quietly he called me out by name and asked pointedly if I hadnt learned anything. Dont give him your money. Do a horse-drawn carriage ride, look up maps and drive it yourself, or look up where to park and walk it.
