I reached out to C.E. Schmidt for a custody arrangement as Eric had helped me with my divorce. I was referred to Michelle and was immediately impressed with her knowledge and compassion toward my situation. I was informed up front of all charges and outcomes. Michelle and her staff were extremely communicative and understanding as my situation was emotionally charged. I was prepared throughout every step of the process and Michelle explained every option in great detail. I would recommend C.E. I was optimistic because I was referred to Michelle and because of the positive reviews. I was excited to work with an all-female team. However, throughout the process, there was constant anxiety from lack of communication and yet I was charged for whatever communication was happening between attorneys that I was not privy to. It was clear that my ex s attorney was keeping him looped in. I d send emails with questions and not hear back. I d upload documentation for disclosure early but was then told I did it incorrectly close to the actual deadline. Michelle was empowering in my initial consultation. Once I hired her and finally would get to talk to Michelle, she said things like, I have multiple cases right now that are like emergency surgeries, and yours is not an emergency. I ve worked with women who are older than you, have been married longer, and have children. At least you didn t have a kid But if you want one, you don t need a man to do that. You re still young. Statements like these were dismissive and invalidating. Divorce is painful enough. Elena, the senior paralegal, was the most communicative, and I appreciate her for that.

I am so glad I decided to work with this law firm. Michelle represented me on two cases. One was an enforcement, and the other one was for a modification. She was upfront during the consultation. My original attorney poorly represented me in my mediation and divorce agreement. I was very unhappy with the outcome when my needs were not met. I was referred to C.E. Schmidt & Associates. I spoke with Eric who was very compassionate and understood my concerns. Eric was able to point out the mistakes to the mediator regarding improper representation that I received by my first attorney. Eric was able to obtain an arbitration hearing and pointed out the mediator s mistakes in that mediation. I was very satisfied with the arbitration outcome. Michelle Schmidt has done it again! She has delivered and performed exceptionally well. My mother cant stop raving about her performance and she is hard to impress. My mother has told anyone she could reach about Michelle Schmidt. My mother is so elated that the whole house knows about C.E. Schmidt & Associates. At this point, Mrs. Schmidt is like a celebrity in our home. The court gave her under 24 hours to prepare for trial. She and her team spent the night at the office to prepare for that nerve wrecking trial. Her fantastic staff were so organized and prepared that it felt like a village came to support my mother. During the trial, mild-mannered Michelle charged like a bulldog throwing off the other counsel whose performance became an incompetent, subpar and pitiful display of defeat. Attorney Schmidts stelar performance earned us favorable judgment for my little brother. Her passion, knowledge and grit sent our opponent running quicker than Sonic the Hedgehog out of the court. As an advocate, she was able to fight for us and win by empathizing and truly understanding our position. Throughout this process, we did not feel like another dollar sign because she treated us like family. She is compassionate and inviting but dont let her meek disposition fool you. This lady and her steel magnolias (her team) are as tough as nails! They are fearless and are ready to defend their clients. I give a shout out to Denise and the whole staff. They make a great team!

I knew Michelle and team in 2018 when i hired her law firm as my lawyer to help me with my divorce. I found Michelle to be very attentive, calm and was empathetic. A lot times i was at the crossroad with the process of the divorce and i would call her even at odd times, She would ask me to come and she would listen and counsel me. She kept helping and telling me the details of what she would do and the things that will not work throughout the duration of the divorce. Finally, the divorce was over in May, 2019 and Michelle and team helped me with their skill in law practice that they took my ex-husband to the cleaners. Michelle and her team were so excellent with their skill that they were able to outwith my ex-husbands lies. They presented my case so well to the mediators which gave me victory over my opponent. After the divorce, my son was not comfortable going to his fathers house. When there was no agreement between the two of them, i had to find a lawyer to help me with my son. And i went back to Michelle and her team to help me with my modification case. Again, I can see the difference in mediation and trial for this law firm. Michelle and her team came to the court overly prepared. I was able to see her team with different brief cases being wheeled into the law court. And inside the court, I saw Michelle displaying her law books on the table after she asked to sit by her side. Her team each took their positions, and of them came to and gave a pad and a pen to write out any question I might have and give to her. Each time Michelle needed anything, she wrote it on her own pad and shifted it back and forth to her team. I said to myself, wow!, what a team! Now i was very confident and comfortable because I could see that i was in a good place. Now the icing on the cake was when the case started. Michelle called me to the witness stand and asked me leading questions that made it easy for me to state my case. She asked questions for upwards of 45 minutes as she made case law references that the case was literally over by the time she finished. I tell you this, Michelle and her team took my ex husband to the cleaners one more time.

Almost 4 years after and I m still upset how my divorce was handled. Just want to share my experience so others can think twice before hiring and don t get taken advantage of when you re most vulnerable. 1. During the initial free consultation, he promised he would help me and asked me not to worry about it. I was completely caught off guard during the meditation and he was not even on my side - he was on the mediator s side pressuring me to settle. 2. After mediation when I needed to read the document before signing, he was chatting with the mediator right in front of me. He knew I was reading this legal document and I need a quiet environment to focus. He couldn t care less. Will you trust a lawyer like this to manage one of the most important legal events of your life? 3. During the final court appearance, he was going between several cases of his at the same time, often left me by myself for a long time. Later he billed me the full amount of his time and the driving expense on this - now I think about it, I should have asked him to return the 2/3 if I was only 1 of the 3 clients he s serving at that time. 4. Overall through the process, he didn t show any empathy. He just didn t care. He spent a lot of time talking about his religion and missionary trips and later he billed me for all these hours! Totally unprofessional.

I made one of the biggest mistakes of my life when I hired this firm. I was represented poorly and taken advantage of at a very stressful time in my life. I don t even know where to begin. I will start with the non-communication about there being no refund on the retainer. Yes, it is in the contract but who is thinking about reading that when you have just been served divorce papers And you are working against the clock to find an attorney fast. I saw the 4.8 star review and I thought I was golden and had found the right firm to represent me. WRONG! I realize now that I was taken advantage of. My still husband tells me so. So I go for my initial consultation to make sure I m making the right choice. This is scary stuff and I don t know what to expect so I m like a sponge taking it all in. I did say this was a consultation right? There should be full disclosure along with many other details as to what to expect. Never once did they say the retainer was non-refúndable. In addition to this little secret, I never spoke to my attorney through the whole process except until the end and at the 11th hour she went into panic mode and called me the night before mediation all in a panic asking me all of these questions. Needless to say she arrived unprepared. My still husband said wow she is a really bad attorney and is totally not prepared. So in the end my still husband hired a high powered attorney and his retainer was 7,500.00 (non-refundable). He was in fact told this bit of information. I on the other hand end up with a low rent attorney and my retainer was 10,000.00 (non-refúndanle). This was not communicated to me and in the end I would have tried to think more clearly and not just jumped on board with the first attorney I spoke to. Lesson learned!!! Trust no one especially your attorney. FYI the paralegal knew more about my case than the useless attorney.

10/10 I would highly recommend ! My ex hired a really good attorney and had me served. He had a court ordered placed on me where I wasn t able to see my son. I spent a couple weeks researching attorneys, and about made myself sick knowing I needed a good strong attorney. I really liked C.E. Schmidt & Associates, PLLC website and the research I had done. From the moment I walked into Michelle s office for my consultation she was so welcoming. I had a really complex case and she was able to follow everything I laid out on the table to her. We were really able to use the most of our time and came up with a game plan. By the time I had left her office I knew that God placed me right where I needed to be. I walked in feeling hopeless and walked out feeling full of hope. I hired Michelle and she dug right in! She guided me through one of the worst and most stressful times of my life! She really cared about me on a personal level! She s such a knowledgeable person with child custody and the law in general. She really does her homework on your case. She s a very honest upfront Christian woman. She s easy to get ahold of, her and her team keep you very informed. When my ex recently served me with divorce filings, I was determined to get the best lawyer that I could afford. Judging from the nearly excellent reviews I read about C.E. Schmidt & Associates, I gave them a call to schedule an in-person consultation. My initial call was on a Friday and I was hoping to get a schedule for the following week, because of the time-sensitive nature of my case (I had a deadline to respond by). I was told they were all booked-up that week and I was only able to get the Tuesday after that week - so, I was scheduled about 11 days from my initial contact. During the waiting period, I called midway just to make sure I still had the slot, and a staff called me a day prior to the appointment to confirm. On the appointed date, I arrived at the office at least 15 minutes before my appointment. I waited past the appointed time without being able to see any lawyer. Supposedly Michelle Schmidt was scheduled to see me but was caught up on another case. Almost 30 minutes past the appointed time, one staff came to apologize to me that Michelle was not able to make the time. This staff promised that if I needed to leave, Michelle would call me for a virtual consultation as soon as she was done with her other client. Because I needed to get back to work, and because I had already spent 11 days of the 22 days I had to respond on m case, I agreed and left the office. I spent the rest of the afternoon looking forward to the call but didnt get one. At the time of writing this, it has been over 10 days since my appointment and nobody from the firm reached out to me. Given the time-sensitive nature of my case and the fact that I counted on their online reputation to be able to help me, I am not only disappointed at such a display of sheer unprofessionalism; I am equally flabbergasted that a supposedly top law firm would be this cavalier with new clients. I am left to wonder how in the world C.E. Schmidt & Associates got all these stellar online reviews. Utterly disgraceful!

This review has been 3 years in the making. I cant believe it has taken this long but I have to do it. They deserve it. This duo are among the most professional attorneys I have ever seen. They are compassionate, experienced and firm. With them, you never feel alone. Michelle Schmidt is a very empathetic person who is very understanding about the plight of domestic violence and different types of abuses. Her husband is a very experienced and knowledgeable attorney who knows the different facets of their practices. Their staff are also a great team of understanding people who work with their clients to get you the best results. Back in 2018 they worked on my mothers divorce and custody case. Good lawyer. In my the middle of my second Mediation my lawyer told me if I don t agree to the settlement the other team was offering me he will have to drop my case because it not worth taking it to trial which will be expensive. Instead of allowing the mediation to finish he made me sign a disclosure that he is withdrawing out my case leaving me with no representation. I stoke to my guns and got the settlement I wanted regardless of my lawyer trying to force me into something I didn t think it was fair. Apart from this minor unprofessional behavior my experience was great. I use them during this covid period however I had small issue getting reply back from their team.

I just got a FREE phone call consultation with Michelle Schmidt, not even finished since she hung up on me ridiculously. All I can say is, she was extremely rude. She kept pushing and asking too many details, which were unusual in a consultation. When I interrupted her, she yelled at me and asked if I am having cancer and asking her for cost of treatment, then she hung up. How rude and cruel a human being can be! I was looking this firm up for a friend and realized that I never left a review after my divorce in 2014. I had a great experience with them - Mr Schmidt was actually the first lawyer I consulted in those first stressful days, and he grasped the details so quickly and was able to respond with a roadmap of what I might expect in different eventualities throughout the process, explained in clear terms, that I hired them immediately. I wanted a divorce that was as quick and clean as possible - no protracted fighting back and forth or escalation, I just needed it OVER - and that was exactly what I got. Everything went exactly as described during my consultation, including the fees - I paid exactly what I was quoted (which was at least four times less than a friend going through a divorce at the same time with lawyers who kept escalating every issue). I also felt like this office held my hand through the process, patiently explaining it to me as we went (including a few questions I had after it was final, which was kind of them to do). I walked in to the consultation in tears in October and walked out of the courthouse a happy lady in February (with a non-cooperative other party, which is relevant to the timeline!), feeling like I got everything I wished for in a lawyer. I never thought I would need a divorce lawyer and I hope I never do again, but I am very happy with the one I had!

Unless these clients dont care about money I have no idea how this man has more than 1 star reviews. I was initially told that my case, which was very open and close run of the mill uncontested divorce, would be executed with my $5000 retainer. Somehow every single dime was used before we even got to mediation. Then he wanted another $2500 just to do mediation, thats before even drawing up the final decree! Oh, that would be another $750 not including child custody orders. I mean, I literally ran out of money. Here it is a year later, my savings gone, and I still dont have custody papers or a divorce. It was a complete waste of money and 3 months of my life. Once you sign on with him youll never hear from him again, the receptionist will e-mail you updates but for the love of God dont respond or ever call with questions because each phone call and e-mail is money taken from your retainer. May God have mercy on this man for preying on single mothers with disabled children and robbing them blind.

This was supposed to be an easy divorce as it was a marriage of a year and a half with no kids and a very little in assets, but my ex-wife did not make it easy. Although getting divorced is not fun, your whole staff did a great job of getting me through this. You charged a very reasonable price (I cant believe the horror stories from my friends!) and you followed through and gave me everything I needed to complete the divorce with no added charges!!! Im very happy with all the help and services given! I hope for everyones sake that you never have any marital legal needs, but should something arise this is the place to go! The greatest things given were kindness, understanding and patience and these are qualities you will find here which cannot be bought at any price. The legal support was carefully planned and thoroughly executed. Although there were many times where I was indecisive and uncertain about the path I was to choose, the law office and staff maintained a constant and neutral standing and were supportive throughout. It was absolutely a no pressure environment. I pray you never need such help, but I personally would not go elsewhere. God bless!

Most of my life I have been leery of lawyers until my husband of 20 years left me and I was forced to protect myself by hiring attorney Eric Schmidt. I am so grateful for the help & guidance that Eric and his associates gave me during this traumatizing time in my life. I was able to see the light at the end of the tunnel and have made it through. I still can not believe how helpful Eric Schmidt and his entire staff were to me during my divorce. I live in California and my ex lives in Houston and I never even met Eric in person but he and his staff managed to ease the blow of the transition. They were efficient yet considerate of my time. I liked that when I called someone was always able to answer my questions even when the attorney wasnt there. Even though my divorce was done on an inexpensive flat fee basis, I still felt I received excellent service and that they made me a priority. The staff did their best to get me through a very difficult period and I would definitely refer anyone who needs a divorce to Eric and his firm. M.L.
