This is such a fantastic spot to enjoy some R&B music! The drink prices are reasonable, and the atmosphere is simply wonderful. They often feature guest DJs who create an incredible vibe for everyone. Youll find yourself singing along with strangers and having a truly delightful evening.

I went to discover both Friday and Saturday. I went first on Saturday which was AMAZING. Postive vibes, the people had well mannered personalities and the DJ was AMAZING. Everyone was vibing and dancing. Then went two weeks later on a Friday and encountered the opposite. The DJ was not good. The speakers must have blown out, it was HOT as world. The people there on Friday were rude and discriminating against. You could not even enjoy the music, people were being so rude and nasty attitudes.

CAUSE HE WAS WEARING BIRKENSTOCKS. like seriously Birkenstocks nowhere is it listed this a rule of the dress code. I m astonished and very disappointed. Do not come or waster your time.

Very disappointed with my bill after purchasing a section. Didn t bother disputing it either. It s 2024 and I m too grown to do business with shady establishments I prefer to never return. Word of mouth will hurt a business x10. The transparency was lacking per usual with the typical club scene in Houston. The bill was supper confusing and I received an additional $90 service fee %20 of the bill that was never mentioned. I don t dispute or argue with establishments any more. I ll just share my horrible experience and that s enough to influence others. Try being more upfront honest and your business will be successful. Try not to make the bill confusing either- it should be straightforward. If not , this place will end up like many other businesses/ clubs that are a one hit wonder in Houston-that wont last more than a couple of years. People catch on to this. Not a good look. Will never get a section here again.

I ve been wanting to try this place out for a while and finally went with my friend last night Saturday. I thought it was gonna be an actual speakeasy but it s just a club with a front entry that s blocked by curtains to make it look hidden (but it s not lol) Nevertheless, we went in and went to the bar. The esthetic was actually pleasing and we liked the RNB music set. Unfortunately the frozen lemon drop we had was horrendous to taste and a waste of $10 per drink. We did a little walk around after getting the drinks to check out the whole place. Was not allowed upstairs ( we assumed it was a ViP type thing going on which is fine). When we made our way back to our original spot near the bar, an aggressively loud security (big black dude with glasses at the entry) came up to us to tell us we couldn t stand where we were and we couldn t dance there either. He called us a waste of space for standing near the bar, although other patrons with drinks already in hand were right at the bar just chillin. It made us feel uncomfortable and was unnecessary to speak to us like that especially when there were other men and women doin the same. We were standing there maybe a minute before he approached us which made us feel like he was watching us. We couldn t dance, drink, or breathe basically unless we stood on the other end which was packed with people. He was a pick and choose security guard and didn t assert his need for authority upon any of the men around us who had drinks at the bar just standing around. We were there all of 15 minutes and left from the vibe kill he created. I can tell now from reading the other reviews that this is one of those favoritism type of places and we will not be going back. I hate that my excitement over the last few weeks to come by this place was deaded by the current state of club culture and that rude security guard that made us feel like we didn t belong there. Very disappointed and can t believe I hyped my friends up about it for nothing.

Off the record is a cool spot but the music sucks. They only play rap music. No rnb, nothing but west/east coast music. Not even down south music. Not a place to dance ***Update I went yesterday (Friday) the music was so much better! A true vibe and men actually approach you there. It used to be grown and sexy. They had more sitting area that wasn t bottle service. But it s still a good spot. 8.5/10 when the Dj is good. It s super crowded tho

I had a horrible experience, security gave preferential treatment to people who he knew personally, allowing them access into the venue before other patrons who were made to wait in line. I dont understand why were treating speakeasys as clubs, but I was very disappointed to have experience this as a first time visitor. I will not be back, not to mention the venue was small in size with limited room available to breathe. How unfortunate it is to have people that work for this business disrespect its customers. The security again definitely had some chip on his shoulder and as long as hes there Ill never GO BACK!

This place was a true vibe. My friends and I arrived around 8:20pm and there as no line to get in and barely anyone inside. Which was great because we were abled to take pictures and enjoy the ambience and appreciate the decor. And then the people started to come in around 10- 10:30pm the place was packed elbow to elbow and it was hot. But the music was good and everyone was dancing. Also, there is no seating unless you have a reserve a section. So, choose your footwear wisely ladies. Between my husband and I we had three drinks, two shots and the cost came out around $80. Most definitely will go back but next time we will get a section.

- DRINKS: Cocktails are with very good prices, very tasteful and lots of choices. I can say prices of drinks are really very reasonable regardless of the location. Just a small comment, there was no menu, I believe management will make one soon, that would be really good to see list of cocktails and other drinks list, especially for those like to try different cocktails and mixes every time that would be great to see what you have. - SERVICE: All bartenders are so nice and very attentive, thank you all. - ATMOSPHERE: Decoration makes place heaven for audiophiles and hifi lovers. All over vinyl records and loudspeakers everywhere. The concept of the place is bar/night club with a record store. As far as I understand DJs playing from records as part of the concept. I have been there with my wife on a Saturday night for retro session. First DJ played most from records and unfortunately nothing really relevant to retro sounds. 2nd DJ had 2 fancy records on turntables only for show purpose and played everything from laptop, as DJ performance projected to wall we could see if he changes records and so on. I am an amateur DJ played in several private parties all over the world so I can easily say that wasn t a play from turntable, plus the content wasn t retro at all except 2-3 songs. Looking at the record covers on the shelves with gorgeous singers and bands when the night named as retro session we honestly expected remixes of 90s 80s disco/funk stuff but frankly disappointed on the music side. The atmosphere was incredibly motivated us to spend a retro night but music was not just right. We enjoyed, danced and have fun but what deemed the night was and playlist did not match.

In agreeing to go to Off the Record, I was told it was a speakeasy. Based on that, I assumed it would be a chill, quiet spot with drinks. However, when we got inside, it was essentially the club. A large open space with a large bar. Maybe they do the quiet thing at some other point earlier in the night. That said, the design with records, album, music equipment, etc. was SOOOO FIRE. Things to note based on a Thursday night visit: no cover charge, men were pat searched and women s bags checked, and I saw security throughout the site. My wife and I had one drink each from their menu, margarita and old fashioned, and spent $32. Fairly typical for the setting. I saw one guy pay $60 for a double shot of Henny and a Don Julio drink though. Music wise, it was a throwback night, which was great. However, the DJ had horrible transitions between songs. I suppose if you re drinking, you don t care about stuff like that. Overall, would recommend when you re ready to party.

The bartender did not want to return the change, which was more than $85, I asked her repeatedly for the change and she said that my husband gave it to her as a tip and that she was not going to give us the change, I was right next to him the entire time. , she wanted to take advantage of someone who is not in his right mind and I am telling her that I am the wife and that the cash is mine and she became disrespectful and rude, which makes her think that she deserves more than $85 tip just for a Hennessy and coke? the male bartender with long hair started yelling at me and gave me the money and told the security to take us out just because Im asking for my money back. How I have to arguing with a damn bartender to give me my money, totally insane and unprofessional, thieves

Off the Record Cocktail Bar in downtown Houston is a hidden gem that unfortunately eluded us during our recent visit. Nestled in the heart of the city, this establishment is known for its unique and sophisticated vinyl records atmosphere, making it a must-visit for cocktail and old school vinyl record enthusiasts. Although we were unable to experience the ambiance and concoctions firsthand due to our untimely arrival, the reputation of Off the Record precedes itself. The bar is often praised for its expert mixologists who craft inventive and delicious cocktails, ensuring a memorable and delightful experience for patrons. The interior, from what we could glimpse through the windows, exudes a chic and intimate vibe. The decor, lighting, and overall design contribute to an atmosphere that is both trendy and welcoming. The attention to detail in creating a space that complements the artistry of mixology is evident, even from the outside. Off the Record likely boasts a diverse and well-curated menu featuring an array of cocktails, from classic favorites to signature creations. The commitment to quality ingredients and innovative flavor combinations is expected to set this bar apart from the ordinary. Our brief encounter with the closed doors only fueled our curiosity and anticipation for the next opportunity to explore Off the Record during its open hours. Given its location in downtown Houston, we are eager to plan a return visit and immerse ourselves in the dynamic and vibrant nightlife that this establishment promises. For those seeking a refined and memorable cocktail experience in downtown Houston, Off the Record Cocktail Bar appears to be a promising destination. The anticipation of what lies beyond those closed doors only adds to the allure, making it a top contender for our list of must-visit spots when next in the area.

I discovered this new lounge on Instagram as soon as it opened. Once me and my family arrived at the establishment, we stood in the general admission line and waited patiently. During the 20 mins we waited, security allowed 20 VIP members with poor dress code to bypass the line, while at the same time keeping the general admission line at a stand still for several minutes at a time. I truly looked forward to giving this business my money, but due to being treated like my money was less than others, we decided to leave and have a grand time at another bar. Seriously doubt I will try to come back.

I am beyond disappointed, I ve looked forward to coming to this establishment for over a month as it look like such an inviting and great atmosphere to want to be in. As soon as I exited the Uber I was pumped just wanted to treat my husband and our sister to a great Houston black owned business experience. Yet what I met at the door was anything but welcoming. I didn t mind the wait in the cold as I was looking forward to the food and cocktails. As time passed I was more and more disappointed by the door staff. I understand that Houston has some VIP personality that must be taken care of but to tell us that the establishment was at capacity then proceed to let in three times the amount of people in through the side and not half of the line is crazy. I wish I could say that I would give this establishment another chance would be a lie. Between me convincing my husband, sister in law, and friends to bypass the usual establishment to try this place, the Uber drive, and my reputable recommendation I can t afford to again. I wish this place all the success but if this is how it has started off I don t think it will last long in Houston. Wishing you all nothing but success.

In a room full of records a DJ spun a series of songs that was like orange juice mixed with milk. I could count on one hand in a room full of people how many people were dancing...in place where theres no dance floor. Theres no chairs either. The paloma had way too much juice. The whiskey highball, which Im not sure was even a highball, nasty. No Amaretto at the bar for the drink I originally wanted. Drinks average $11 each. Its the perfect place if you like standing around drinking overpriced subpar cocktails while listening to a DJ butcher the mix. The decor gets 5 stars.

This is a bar but the drinks were not only trash, but it seemed someone was either new on the job or have no clue how to make drinks. It was very disappointing. After trying the signature cocktails, we diverted from the menu and asked for a French 75...they basically used one of the cocktail drinks from the menu and added champagne. It was just disgusting. As I said we reserved a table but the wait time for drink service was extremely long. I believe it was only one waitress. Not sure I will be back unless Im just in the area or I hear of some improvements.

The drinks were good but the bartender upstairs, Hannah came off arrogant and belittling. Spoken down to & was very rude while trying to get information. Honestly looked like she didn t even want to be there. I d consider bringing in bartenders that are a little more attentive and appealing.

This place is pretty cool. Great music! They are very inconsistent with the times they open. I went two times and the first, the security kicked us out twice even though the door was open. Since the page stated they opened at a certain time we just walked in and got kicked out by him. He was very rude about it. He acted like we were breaking in! Lol! The second time we went, the place stated they were open at 8 and there was someone standing outside and told us they weren t going to open until 9. Sadly, I don t know if I ll be returning after these two mishaps.

Arrived at 10pm on a Saturday. The main room was kinda crowded but it was expected. Dj was on point. Atmosphere was my kind of vibe. Place was filled with beautiful people.

Checked out off the record last night after having a couple drinks at sunnys down the street. Great hip hop spot with an old school feel. Music was on point. Get there early bc it was busy. Mixed crowd just wanted to have fun, no drama. Drinks fairly priced for downtown. When I left there was a long line to get inside. I would def run it back!

Great vibe and cool bar. 2 story. Drinks were surprisingly decently priced. Has that vintage like feel and good drinks. Its a bit small but nothing bad at all and a couple booths available as well.

This is it. If you love music, and/or love hearing a DJ do their thing this is it! Loved! Now it is going to be crowded, but that is not without reason!

Thad an amazing experience at the newest bar on Main St. bar! The ambiance makes you feel like youre in a different city, far from your typical Houston nightlife scene. The DJ was incredibly talented, and the crowd was either dancing or vibing along to the music. The cocktail menu is fantastic, and I had the pleasure of trying several options. The Rolling Stone is their unique take on a Vodka Spritz, and its absolutely delicious. Love On The Run is a rum-based sidecar served in an adorable glass, perfectly balanced. Brown Sugar Brew is a must-try for espresso martini enthusiasts - it even comes with a pocky stick and chocolate cotton candy. I absolutely loved it!

Not sure what the last person was smoking but the music was great. Now it is an old school vibe so it s gonna be older tracks and they were fire! Drinks were on point and fairly priced for downtown. Defn recommend if you re into old hip-hop and want something nostalgic. Friendly service as well!

The DJ was terrible.. the ambiance was amazing, but the music was just horrible. The crowd did not know one song played, regardless of vinyls or not. Gotta know how to read your crowd.
