Quality of food has seriously declined over the past couple of years. Last visit we ordered ribs, with beef and chicken fajita. Ribs appeared to have been boiled in water and just coated in BBQ sauce, very disgusting taste and texture. They continue to remove items off the menu plates as prices have increased significantly. Time to find a new spot to enjoy.

The Trevino family needs to pay attention to this restaurant. The place is so musty and dirty. Replace/clean the walkway rugs?!?! The salsa is nothing but water nowadays .it used to be very good. Last time my family and I come here. This place has become a dump!

My sister and I met at LaPlaya after not seeing each other for a long time. My nephews and family also came along. They had a table for 10 in about 15 minutes. The restaurant was not too loud so we could hear each other. The food was excellent and the margaritas were the best Ive tasted in a long time. Parking: We had 4 cars and while the restaurant was busy there was a steady flow so we all found a place quickly.

Went for our first time, service was excellent, food was good and tasty, we got the queso flameado with chorizo, and the botona for 2, good food, but the portions were small for the price. I feel like it should be lower since the portions are smaller, but loved my experience, our server attended us great and kept bringing us refills. Will definitely be back.

Food is delicious! I don t recommend to order the flautas to go, they are soggy & not crispy at all. I don t recommend the guacamole, it isn t fresh, seems like the kind you see packaged in grocery store, something fake-like about it. June 15th visit for a pre Fathers Day celebration. Greeted immediately and sat in the private room area. Much quieter. Went with the usual and they hit it just perfect as usual. Great visit. The server was a little blah and we didnt see her much but a friend of the family who works there took care of us either way and we ran into some family friends having dinners well. Had a great time, food was excellent. The time with friends and family was even better. Food always good, too loud. 11-16-22 great dinner with friends. Had the fajita milanesa. Absolutely delicious. 5 stars/ 3-12-23 visit, 5 stars definitely. Skipped bfast due to driving in from out of town so we were hungry. Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon around 130ish. Absolutely fantastic. No wait, seated immediately. Server was very kind, pleasant and attentive. Started with chips & salsa as usual and moved on to an appetizer. We went with the Family appetizer cause it had a little of everything. It was absolutely delicious except the jalapeno. Great blend of seasoned ground beef apps and seasoned chicken apps. In the center was a beef filled deep fried jalapeno (same concept as the deep fried avocado). The jalapeno tasted very vinegary, like it came out of a jar. It wasnt fresh off the plant. Other then that it was good. Wife ordered the Fajita tarascas and I order the beef milanesa. No complaints, absolutely fantastic. It was all hot, fresh and fast. I think we know our new visit time for our next visit. Definitely be back. Atmosphere still gets 3 stars....it is always super loud in there.....I like the peace and quiet

This was my 2nd x here & I was very disappointed. More so, because the 1st x there was great. This time, it was a party of two, both asked for the same dish & drink & we split a dessert. Very easy order. The waiter seemed on autopilot with the audio turned down low. I had to repeat myself various times. Taco salad is not a difficult request. The tortilla shell seemed cooked the day before on both orders. It wasnt even warm, let alone hot. The filling left a lot to be desired. We requested fajitas because we wanted to compare them with the fajitas from another popular restaurant. The other popular restaurant won. I dont know if well go back to LA Playa again.

So the food was good but the service not so much. The hostess and the waiter weren t friendly at all. The waiter made us feel like we just had to order, eat and get out. Brought us guacamole with no chips to eat it with. Interrupted our conversation and my husband wasn t even halfway with his beer to ask us if we were ready to pay. Then stands behind my husband to see if he s leaving a tip. We rarely get a night out without our kids and disappointed it went this way.

Biggest DISSAPOINTMENT! We visited from Dallas for a wedding, we called for reservations for 10, I spoke to manager Mr. Ramirez, he said no reservations. When we got there a were told it would be an hour. Our food was mediocre. The rice was loaded with black pepper. Queso flamedo was not melted. My nieces food was cold. Experience was 5/10 when I walked in I had higher expectations but was really dissatisfied not with the service but the food. Ordered the queso flameado 13.99 Seafood enchiladas Like 14.99 Shrimp amarrados 21.99 And two drink from the happy hour special. The queso was a very small portion and the chorizo just had no flavor. The seafood enchiladas were such a disappointment. I was expecting them to be filled with shrimp mushroom and bell peppers, but it was just two enchiladas filled with cheese and Alfredo sauce on top with bell peppers and onions and a couple of frozen bag shrimp obviously cooked but you can tell. Just because you throw a couple of shrimp on top, does not make it a seafood enchilada such a disappointment. The shrimp Amarrodos I m assuming also came from the same bag of shrimp it was more bacon than anything the shrimp were so small. Bacon had no flavor and bacon itself is full of flavor but it was missing it. The rice was not fresh it was just reheated. From what it tasted like. my boyfriend ordered a A draft Michelob ultra and the beer was so flat I ordered a frozen mango margarita and it was super liquidy. Everything came out to 67 dollars And it was just not worth the price. Will not come back.

Im just one of the many reviews. Dont take my word for the verdict. Have any of you seen a short where a server in a Mexican restaurant tells her table of customers (for the short so no one other than the account holder is in the short) about the variety in Mexican food? She starts describing the dishes and slows down and loses her excitement when she realizes she said fried rice (in my personal and maybe biased opinion Mexican fried rice doesnt compare to the Asian counterpart), beans, cheese, and salad? Thats virtually what you get with most of the dishes. Now like I said, dont take my review and star rating to be the verdict. There should be many of yall who like that so youd rate this higher than I would. I just wasnt a big fan of it. In addition, I think theyre short staffed. While I dont want to make things hard for folk trying to fill in gaps in their team, I didnt cause their team to be short handed either. There was some messing up with our order. This was addressed and taken care of to someones satisfaction... I just dont think it was ours. Our order was fixed, lets establish that! Its just that once it was fixed.... we wondered if this was it?! So I dont mean to blame them when I say the mixup was taken care of but not to our satisfaction. I just want to provide context, so you know you can just blame me again for this if youve been content and happy with all of your orders, properly handled or mixed and fixed. Either way, this is okay. And Ill go again if my groups want to go here. If it were me deciding where wed go, I dont think La Playa would be one of the options that comes to mind

I love Mexican food and eat it pretty often. The food here was good but not THAT great. I was not impressed with the rice and refried beans. The Happy Hour Margaritas were nice. It had been years since I had been here and everything was just how I remembered it. Delicious and very well served plates. The stuffed avocado plate is what I always ordered so I stuck with it, and I was very pleased. Half an avocado stuffed with cheese and fajita, breaded and deep fried. Served with a fajita taco, small bowl of tortilla soup and rice. It was delicious!! Their quedo flameado is super tasty also.

This was an overall okay-ish experience. The best parts were the Fajitas Guisadas, flour tortillas, tostadas, and rice. The food is the redeeming part of La Playa, because the service was very bad. From the hostess, to the bus boys, to our waiter Diego, the service was not good. They all seemed pretty spaced out or miserable to be there. We had to ask for our table to be cleaned multiple times, asks for refills and silverware a few times, and we general did not have pleasant interactions with the staff. They did seem very busy and understaffed so they seemed to be dealing with a stressful situation. The atmosphere was very loud and lively. The bathrooms were very spacious and clean. The happy hour margaritas were very watered down but the frozen ones were better. We spent $120 which seemed like a lot for what we got.

This was my first visit to this restaurant since relocating to Harlingen. The customer service was outstanding. The menu had great options and even lunch choices. My meal was awesome; even the chips and salsa they give you before your meal. I will be going back with my husband. This was a lunch trip with my co-workers.

Wow! Talk about a wonderful surprise! Ive eaten at many Mexican restaurants, but La Playa is on a different level. The food is delicious and elevated above typical Mexican restaurant food. The service was phenomenal and our drinks were never empty. Great upbeat atmosphere. Pristine bathrooms. Ill definitely return when in the area.

My son and my mom took me there for my birthday and I ordered the chimichanga and it came with rice and beans. The chimichanga had too much salt in the filling, so I mixed it with the other sides and it just made it worse. I think that everything was over salted. I should have known when my mom didnt eat her beans and left half of the rice. I then ordered a to-go order for my husband and when he started to eat it, he found a string in the beans. He asked me if they had cheese on them because they looked like string cheese but when I examined it, it was more like a floss string. He examined the beans and said that maybe it was something with the packaging. That was my first time there because my mom had heard very good reviews but I was disappointed .

Fajita plate had almost no meat on it. For 25 bucks, this was a clear rip off from a place that just doesnt seem to care.. the remaining entrees were lackluster at best. What happened to your place? We ate most recently on a Saturday at 11am.. first ones in the door, yet with a number of servers working and no other guests, I still had to flag down someone for a refill. We brought a friend from out of town who had never been to the Valley and wanted to offer her a chance to experience authentic Mexican.. all La Playa did was embarrass themselves when it was obvious that a better meal and service could be gotten at Taco Bell.. YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES.

Well my four children and I went here two days in a row because it was so good the first day no one wanted to try any other place the second day! We all got something different both days so we ended up getting eight different menu options and everything was absolutely delicious. The staff were super friendly and helpful and the food came so quickly I wasn t sure what their secret was! Overall, just a great experience. Oh, I guess my one complaint about this place would be that their fried ice cream is not fried ice cream it s ice cream rolled in a coconut mixture, so that was kind of disappointing because we love real fried ice cream. Otherwise it was amazing!
