Have been coming here for decades. A couple of blocks from downtown the atmosphere has not changed. One large carne guisada taco with rice and beans is subsistence enough for the whole day. Friendly service, good food and great prices is worth the visit.

The food and tortillas are great, but this place needs to be open more hours. I came down to Harlingen 2 weekends in a row and they closed too early for me to make it in time, and theyre closed on Sundays. They need to be open at least until 7pm. I came there last on a Friday morning and everything was great though.

Order two kinds of burritos from this location, carne guisada and beef fajita. The carne guisada burrito recipe has changed since I started eating them 20+ years ago. They now come with bits of tomatoes which I m not a fan of. I promptly discarded them when I discovered them in my burrito. That being said, this is hands down the best tasting carne guisada recipe I ve had outside of my kitchen. I ve been all over Texas and Arizona and nothing comes close. This is a must order when visiting this restaurant. I Their beef fajita burritos used to be a top notch as well. I ordered one and added avacado to it expecting greatness. Instead I got a subpar burrito which I ended up tossing after two bites. The fajita tasted like it was cooked too quickly. The meat was tough and tasted like perhaps someone had thrown a green pepper and onions at the last second for flavor. The avacado slices were not ripe i.e. harder than they should have been and tasted bland as a result. I ll stick to ordering what they do best at this location. And I will he back.

The breakfast was good but I was a little thrown back when the waiter went to ring me and wanted to charge me a dollar extra for asking for refried beans. He said it takes extra oil to refry the beans . I cook and I know it only takes half a teaspoon to refry a small portion which is what they put in the side of your order. The special was 6.99 and I was getting charged $8 and some cents. I had handed him$13 cause I wanted to leave him $5 for tip. I just feel like it leaves a bad taste when they want to charge ridiculously.

Great place for South Texas Tex-Mex Food. You have to come and try it out. They have their unique signature menu and they can make your order how you want it, if your vegetarian. Dont expect something fancy but it is a hidden treasure in Harlingen Texas for years. New owners are keeping the signature menu tradition from back in the day when I was a child. It brings back memories when my mom and grandma would bring my brothers and I to eat here. Now I bring my family. They are well known for their Carne Guisada Taco. Its huge and loaded. Stop by.

Been coming here since I was a teenager. Although the owners have changed, the new owners have kept serving the same signature menu items that put this place on the Harlingen community map. Locals know..., out of towners - come and see why locals love to eat here with Hugo and his wonderful family that put God first and it shows because everything else falls into place. My personal favorite and go to is the large Carne guisada taco with rice, beans, and cheese. Had a late breakfast thanks to El Taquito serving extended hours on breakfast late on Saturdays.

El Taquito brings back so many memories from being in high school. Ordering at the window from the little old lady. Today I ordered 2 large carne guisada tacos, one with carne guisada and cheese with rice on the side and the other with carne guisada with everything minus the cheese, they were ok but not old school. However, if you order a taco with everything dont order any item on the side, you get charged for it. I was surprised to be charge for it. Im sure they have their reason, we may try them again (not sure). The restaurant was clean and the Christian music helped in this situation.
