The brisket was so good and the pizza pepper sausage was so good and spicy. This spot is a hidden gem and more people need to know about it! Staff are so knowledgeable with the menu and energetic with the customers. I would love to come back each when i m in GP.

The food is excellent however my lower rating is for several reasons. First, I know barbecue is expensive but I didnt feel that the price paid complimented the servings provided. To be completely honest the food in addition to their sauces are really extremely good but a meat plate will only get you a spoon full of delicous potatoe salad two slices of tender brisket. Thats a little over $16 but it did include a drink and if you like beer they had free beer outside in a cooler which leads to my other point. I was with my adult son and father. I requested the TV be placed on a college game that was already on when we arrived. As we ordered food the channel was changed but not to an actual show or movie just a tv setting. The polite young lady who works the front changed the channel for us and we began eating. As I choose my included drink the young lady informed me that the beer outside was free. I decided to take her up on this offer. As I opened the beer cooler, the ower Joe who was outside speaking with other guest gave me this weird stare down. The type of stare you get when racist people think your taking something which is usually free without making an inital purchase (because youre black). The stare was so weird I just spoke and said hi how ya doing. He never responded back. Then as we ate he came in from outside and turned the music off that was playing in the background then, turned the tvs sound down to play Country Music. This was extremely weird to me as when I arrived they were playing hard core rap which didnt bother me but apparently as other caucasian customers arrived he decided to switch things up a bit. Anyway the whole thing was extremely wierd and other customers in the store were actually wanting to watch the game too so I believe everyone was kinda of taken away by the actions of the owner. The food is really good, the people who cook and take your orders are wonderful but the price is steep and the owner is questionable as to his actions.

I got the spicy Cole slaw and country hill potatoe salad as my sides. The sides were fire. The only negative is you have to wait in line. That tells you how good this food is. If you are in Grand Prairie this is a must visit.

Not a touristy BBQ joint, Zavalas offers the kind of smoked meats and sides that stand out in your memory. Their classic brisket is very pepper heavy, but the bark is moist with just a hint of crisp perfection, and a smoked flavor that Id put up against anywhere. Their Almost Carnitas are such a brilliant twist on the common pulled pork that I dont know if I can go back to making pulled pork the same at home ...because when asked about what made the Almost Carnitas unique, the pitmaster freely, and happily, gave the recipe. And the one area Ive always thought was Texas BBQs weak point was sides....but not here. The spicy coleslaw is superb, the hominy out of this world. The staff were friendly, outgoing, welcoming, and even encouraging of telling you how they did their smoked meats....with a certain confidence that youre not going to do it as well as them, and Im pretty sure theyre right. Oh, and the location is cool as hell. 5 stars, A+, Im now planning entire vacations around coming back to eat here.

This spot was AMAZING! We bought 8 items to try: sliced brisket (flat and point), turkey, pizza pepper sausage, Sloppy Juan tacos, pulled pork, Pops beans, Hill Country potato salad, and cheesy jalepeno hominy. Sliced brisket 3.8/5 - not as flavorful as some other brands, but nice bark and chew. Flat was a bit dry, but the point was juicy Turkey 4.3/5 - VERY moist and flavorful. Smoke flavor really penetrated well throughout Pizza pepper sausage 4/5 - very unique sausage that had a pepper-forward flavor. High quality casing with a good snap. Very juovy Pulled pork 2.5/5 - no moisture, no flavor. Needed sauce Sloppy Juan tacos 4.1/5 - GET ONE! (or two) these are made with chopped brisket and pulled pork on flour tortillas. Top with the Sloppy Juans BBQ sauce and cilantro lime salsa Pops beans 3/5 - average pinto-style beans with minimal flavor Hill Country potato salad 3.9/5 - not your typical potato salad. Diced potatoes with lots of herbs, very smooth and creamy. Highly recommend Cheesy jalepeno hominy 5/5 - STAR OF THE SHOW! This was an intriguing combination that I never knew I needed. I will be making my own spin of this, but its a must-order! Overall, 3.8 for a spot that I will be back to for sure. There are other menu items that were out or not served on the day we visited (brisket boudin and smoked beef cheek/barbacoa) so a return trip is necessary!

My first bite of the brisket was so good my chin dropped to my chest and I was lost in sensory satisfaction. I gained my senses and tried another bite and I was filled with so much goodwill I honestly imagined Dak could get us to the Super Bowl. I got up and my knees were weak but I was determined to get a free beer from the cooler before I tried the sausage. I bit into the sausage and cried out Oh My God and noticed everyone looking at me. I grabbed my plate and decided to eat it in my car where I felt safer with my sensory overload. I ate my meal in the warm sun and woke up an hour later. Nothings finer than a cold beer, a full belly of Zavalas and the warm sun on your face.

First time visiting Zavala s and will be coming back. We ordered brisket, pork ribs, jalapeño sausage, potato salad and coleslaw. All of the food was very good but our favorite was the potato salad, hands down. The brisket and the ribs were a little on the dry side. The coleslaw was the perfect combination of sweet and spicy. The cucumber/lime agua fresca was refreshing and sweet! And the tortillas were just basic flour tortillas. The service was great - while we did wait in line for about 30 min, once we got to the front, the staff was fast and friendly. I would recommend this place! Total spent for 3 adults and 1 child: $80.

I had to try out Zavalas because there was an article in the local paper about it being one of the top 10 in the Dallas Fort Worth area. Very cool vibe with mainly outdoor seating I cant imagine in July and August sitting outside in the heat , they have a couple of tables inside but its mainly outdoor dining but very cool vibe. As far as barbecue goes I always judge a barbecue spot on its brisket and this brisket was a little dry so Id give it a three out of five stars. The ribs were very tasty and fall off the blown moist so I would give them a four. If you come I dont know if Id get the brisket but I would definitely get the ribs. The coleslaw is great as well as the beans. The Hillcountry potato salad was still warm and it was amazing. It would have gotten four stars if it wasnt for the brisket. The barbecue sauce is OK.

The Best BBQ was my quest, so along with my co pilot we toured the U.S. My first time here at Zavalas, a big lunch crowd. Not much indoor seating, lots of outdoor though. So I got a 2 meat plate to go; The plate was brisket ,sausage,2 sides and drink- $24 and change. The brisket had great bark, and moist,Sausage was good; beans were great! BBQ sauce has a little kick to it but good as well. Portions were a little small for the price, maybe inflation has a part in that. Check em out on Main St. You cant miss them.

Brisket - 5 stars Ribs - 4 stars Sauce - 2 stars. Their normal sauce is mexican salsa Anyone who puts salsa on BBQ is a complete psychopath and should leave Texas! However, they have something called Sloppy Juan Sauce which is actually bbq sauce, but they are giving people salsa when they ask for sauce!?!?! Drinks - 1 star. No beer. They said normally they have FREE BEER, which if they actually had it would make this 5 stars, but they had none so only get one star. Price - 1 star. 1/2lb of brisket, and 1/2lb of ribs with one side and no beer - $45!?!?!? I cant afford to eat here again Atmosphere - 2 stars. No bar. Place is a tiny hole in the wall. Overall take - I would come here again for takeout, if i could afford it, but probably would not dine here again. The brisket is fantastic though.

Genuine customer service 100% of the time, no crazy lines and free Lone Stars out front. Been to a lot of barbecue places across the state and this one remains a favorite.

Ive been here a few times and I gotta say good, high quality bbq basically everytime. They have a good selection of meats and even some specialties every once in a while. While their turkey and ribs can be at times either too salty or needing salt, their brisket, sausage, beef rib, abd especially beef cheeck (only on saturday) is always on point. Would definitely reccomend and would definitely come back. Parking: Really small parking (3-5 cars). Usually park in the grass outback or on side of street

Ive been wanting to get to Zavalas for awhile now, finally got the opportunity today! The brisket was delicious, nice bark, seasoned well, fat was rendered nicely... It was just great. And the Sloppy Juan was outstanding! Surprisingly, I think it was even better than the brisket. Great flavor, unique, innovative idea... man, it was exceptional! Three service was good, friendly folks in line & sitting near us too - felt very much like a family restaurant. Exactly the kind of experience I want, friendly Texans everywhere. The atmosphere is fine, nothing wrong with it at all... just know its not fancy. Its not meant to be, the food is the star! Parking: We lucked out & there wasnt a crazy amount of people there - I imagine it might be more difficult to find parking on a normal day

This family run BBQ place has a cool Hispanic vibe with TexMex accents everywhere. From the Pico de Gallo salsa with your meat, a tortilla instead of bread, and Cheesy Jalapeño Hominy instead of mac and cheese to the Almost Carnitas pork burnt ends, this place is cool. And of coarse, the brisket met the criteria of juicy, tender and good smoke flavor. The unique sausage selections are top notch. This is a Destination Point when in Dallas/Fort Worth.

Smoked Meat for those w Money to Burn... Nice, heavily peppered brisket and smoked meats. Limited, although sometimes remarkable sides... Im a fan of the food. That said, the price of barbecue in D/FW has gotten ridiculous and Zavalas is no exception. I suppose brisket w tortillas rather than sliced bread IS something of a novelty on some level. And the place does have a certain charm. I want to be a fan but, the economics of the meal are prohibiting. The Grand Prairie store has a small, often crowded interior full of folks willing to pay what are mostly $70-90 bills. If youre a party of one, expect to pay $25-40. For groups of more than 4, its likely outdoor seating will be your only option. Pleasant perhaps in the spring or fall but, at these prices, really unacceptable in the Texas heat (as evidenced by the wilted diners keeping an eye out for refuge inside, however slight it may be.) It would seem our humble barbecue has become something else entirely. Parking: Plenty of parking provided you drive a truck or 4wd vehicle and dont mind parking on unpaved surfaces

The brisket is seasoned perfectly. For me the meat could have been more tender but it still had great flavor. The sloppy Juan is a sloppy Joe in a taco but with brisket and a flour tortilla. The pico de gallo as a topping is a plus. The sides were potato salad and I like the roasted potatoes and the touch of dill with bacon. The cheese hominy was a great take on Mac and cheese but with more flavor. The banana pudding is very fluffy but it was so so compared to other banana pudding I have had. Not much indoor seating but a good amount of outdoor seating.

So the plus side is that this is real bbq. It s hard to find a bbq restaurant with actual smoke rising up outside. The setup is small but the music is good and the staff is fast and okay as far as customer service goes. Now the bad this is not a family friendly place to eat. There is not much on the menu for kids and almost everything is spicy. Even the sides. Also it can be expensive. My husband and I spent almost $70 just for us and it wasn t that much. That didn t include any tortillas and the drinks were the size of a McDonald s small drink. There is a lot of potential here but we were kind of disappointed.

Overall great flavor but Id back down on the pepper by a 1/4. Also, recommend not getting meat from a fresh brisket as the ends are definitely dry. Recommend more along the center cut for a more moist cut. Finally, not sure if bread is free but recommend a little more transparency on overall prices. Almost forgot, byob your drink as theyre closer to $4 a small bottle. I know bottle was glass, but Id already spent over $50 so not sure I understand the nickel and diming.

We ended our BBQ tour this morning at this delightful little spot and I could not be happier. Yes, the food was delicious (anytime you give me hominy I m happy, and tacos are for every day, not just Tuesday s - the Sloppy Juan was delicious). The food was pepper forward, which we all enjoyed, and the jalapeño cheese sausage was the best we ve tried all week - loved the texture. But by far, the best part was being served by Joe. He was serving his customers like they were family. Chatting and telling stories like we were at thanksgiving dinner. Thank you Zavala Fam for welcoming strangers into your home away from home. 10/10.

So lets get this out of the way this place lives up to the reviews. The guys running the place are super nice and welcoming. So onto my order, I ordered a 1/2 lb of brisket, 1/2 lb of turkey and pops beans. The brisket was ridiculous, super tender, juicy and top 2 bark in North Texas in my opinion. The turkey while delicious was better with their Juan Sauce.( Admittedly I got the last bit they had left so, it was mainly end pieces) Pops beans were what you want the to be, creamy, yet robust under the tooth. The only thing that made the better was a slight sprinkle of the fresh Peco they put out with each order. If you are within a 1-2 hour drive you should make it. Ill definitely be back for sure for that brisket and give their turkey another shot, also gotta try the sausage and the hominy on the next visit. Wheelchair accessibility: Its a small normal parking lot but they have designated areas to be able to park to get a wheel chair out.

BBQ REVIEW- Zavalas Barbecue . Today we popped in to visit the crew at @zavalasbarbecue . I got there a little early and Pitmaster @joe_joe0jeda was nice enough to show me their pit setup. While utilizing(4) huge traditional offsets (including their newest @mill.scale smoker) the team at Zavalas rely on Post Oak and Pecan wood for all their clean smoke. Meats supplied by @44farms ensures that every bite will be top quality and consistent. While on my visit, I ordered their sliced brisket, ribs, jalapeños cheese sausage, turkey, sloppy juan taco, and cheesy jalapeno hominy w/real cane sugar glass coca-cola. . Brisket- The king of Texas did not disappoint. It had great bark, tender, and Moist. My sliced were huge didnt last long on my plate. Ribs- These were the shocker of the day. They were better than I was expecting. Since I had always heard raving few views about Zavalas brisket I guess I just wasnt expecting the ribs to be as good as they were. These are being slept on big time! They were very Central Texas Style ribs but were meaty and cooked perfectly. Turkey- Moist and great! Jalapeno Cheese Sauage- Made in-house and extremculture. Sloppy Juan- Chopped Brisket, BBQ Sauce, homemade flour torilla....what isnt to love?!? Cheesy Jalapeno Hominy- I loved this as a side. Great out of the box thinking that really brought in some Hispanic culture. . Overall: Knocked it out of the park! But their friendliness was top notch!!
