Beautiful camping with RV. Lots of ants though. Gorgeous night sky viewing, early mornings outside we could hear roosters and cows. Loved it. Appreciated how often we observed the park staff checking sites and doing maintenance. A well cared for state park.

A Historical Gem: Goliad State Park! Goliad State Park is a treasure trove of Texas history, nestled along the scenic San Antonio River. From its stunning landscapes to its rich historical significance, this park offers an enriching experience for visitors of all interests. Rich Historical Legacy: As home to the largest ranching operation in Texas during the Spanish Colonial Era, Goliad State Park is steeped in history. It s a place where you can step back in time and explore the remnants of Spanish colonial architecture, including a beautifully preserved church and surrounding buildings. Exhibits throughout the park vividly depict the daily lives of missionaries and Indian converts, providing a glimpse into Texas past. Presidio La Bahia: Located across from the park is Presidio La Bahia, a historic fort that played a pivotal role in the Texas Revolution. It was here that Colonel Fannin and his men were tragically held and later executed under Santa Anna s orders. The fort s history echoes throughout the park, adding layers of depth to its cultural and historical significance. Scenic Beauty: Beyond its historical importance, Goliad State Park boasts picturesque views of the San Antonio River and tranquil campsites nestled among lush greenery. It s a serene escape where nature and history converge, offering opportunities for hiking, picnicking, birdwatching, and peaceful contemplation along the riverbanks. Educational and Inspirational: For history enthusiasts and nature lovers alike, Goliad State Park offers an educational and inspirational experience. Whether you re exploring the historic sites, learning about Texas colonial past, or simply enjoying the natural beauty of the park, there s something captivating for everyone. Final Verdict: In conclusion, Goliad State Park stands as a testament to Texas rich cultural heritage and natural beauty. With its compelling history, scenic landscapes, and peaceful ambiance, it s a destination that leaves a lasting impression. Whether you re visiting for a day trip or camping overnight, immerse yourself in the stories of the past and discover why Goliad State Park is a true gem of the Lone Star State.

The 4th star is for the historical aspect. Its a great stop to get a glance at a little bit of history. We prefer larger parks, but we visited this park to see the history and to get our kayaks wet. This is a decent small state park. Its worth visiting. Camping in a tent is good. We brought our kayaks, but the two areas to launch into the river are not easily accessible so we didnt get our kayaks into the river. We do a lot outdoors, so we do know it gets uncomfortable in a tent from June to August. Sometimes from May to September. So, definitely hydrate plenty for the warmer months in Texas. In Texas, we do most of our outdoor adventures from October to April. Since we are Texans, born & raised, we still get out a bit during the summer months in Texas. Were acclimated to it. Also, prepare for mosquitos when outdoors. Those little critters are always outdoors everywhere. We bring spray to use on our tent, around our tent spot, and we often also bring homemade candles to deter mosquitos. All of the staff we interacted with were very friendly and helpful.

We were in Goliad to meet up with the National Eucharistic Pilgrimage as they passed thru Goliad and Victoria. We had time after mass at the Chapel at Presidio La Bahia to visit the Mission at the Goliad State Park. Ive passed by here for years but never stopped at either place to explore. Very glad we did today. This area is so rich with history. I can only imagine the number of hearts and prayers that have been touched and heard over the years here. As we were about to leave the museum, a book caught my eye. On Easter Sunday, April 16, 2017, it was predicted that a rare solar illumination would occur, illuminating the altar crucifix.

Great park to visit for a long weekend. Trails were pretty easy to navigate and wide. Because there werent many different hiking options, it was simple enough to figure out where you were on the map. The mission was well maintained and the office had a nice selection of souvenirs. Dogs arent allowed in buildings, but I was still able to take a peak inside most parts from doorways. Make sure your dog has good manners because there were other campers with off leash dogs. Plenty of signs about the leash rule, but not much enforcement.

Best time to go is on the 2nd Saturday of the month, and take advantage of Market Day. Its held around the historic Courthouse in the center of town. Not much else to do, but it makes for a good weekend visit.

The museum signs and historical signs must be redone entirely. They all paint all indigenous folks as barbaric cannibals who needed to be punished for simply existing. White saviorism everywhere. Absolutely disgusting. Also, its not great for exploring/hiking. There is 1 trail that is 1 mile long and thats it, unless you wanna take a longer trail into town but its mostly right by the highway. Beautiful wildflowers though!

A must do day trip or overnighter if visiting Texas . Visit here to learn about some very important historical people who were influential with the discovery of our great state and the blood that was shed by those who shouted out in the heat of battle Come And Take Me . The church and the interesting artifacts that are on display allow one s imagination to be enhanced in going back in time and visualizing what life was like for the early settlers who fell in love with this land with such a passionate they were willing to die for it.

From visiting inside the mission, to sitting at one of the picnic tables and then exploring the trails. This State Park has so much to offer. We followed the trails under miles of trees, while walking alongside the San Antonio River. At different times there is a paddling trail that you can take your canoe/kayak on. But it was blocked off yesterday. There are restrooms and plenty of picnic areas and campsites with camping areas or water connections and electricity.

Used the group hall for a memorial celebration for my late aunt. The hall was spacious, with a equipped kitchen, bar, and attached separate mens and womens room. The Wall to wall tinted window provided ample natural lighting while also allowing external privacy. There was a large fire pit surrounded by bench seating close by. Could definitely see this location being used for various other activities. Small wedding receptions, parties, family reunions etc. The thing I was not crazy about was the proximity of the other visitors boondocking to our rented space. Attempting to have a private family event, wasnt so private when rvers are parked right outside the entrance to the building as well as beginning the hiking trail was a few feet from the building, so it also felt kind of exposed to passerbys. All in all I loved the location, the price and the inclusion of the hall to nature. Would definitely recommend Toilets: Clean, but hot with zero airflow.

We spent a good bit of time touring the Mission Espiritu Santo and the Presidio del Bhai one mile away. Both play pivotal roles in Texas history, especially the war for Independence. The Presidio is the site of the infamous massacre of 342 Texas prisoners of war, 40 of them (such as Col Fannin) too wounded to walk. This event happened weeks before the decisive victory over the Mexican Army at San Jacinto, TX. You view the restored 250 year old church that is still used for mass. On one rampart there is the cannon that Fannin buried to keep it from the Mexican Army. So much history and tragedy at this site!

Very well kept place, you can see the pride the town has in their local history. There is room for a lazy picnic to a more strenuous activities as well. Highly enjoyable.

Beautiful park with lots to do! The park workers were very friendly & informative. The bathrooms were like any typical state park bathroom. Bugs are in there of course, but the restrooms are decently clean. The RV sites were easy to get into with lots of space.

I did not catch her name but there is a wonderful park ranger full of enthusiasm and information. $4 adult entrance fee, parking included. We did not walk the trail (estimated 15 minutes) due to mosquitoes and heat. 2 trails were closed due to flooding. There were people biking. Be mindful of heat and bugs. Did not camp there but there are facilities, you need to reserve and pay on the state park website.

Only showed up for the day, beautiful place for a hike. Only downside was it had been raining recently so the river-side trail was far too muddy to go all the way. The other smaller trail was still good to explore, however. Make sure you keep track of the weather if you are coming.

This is a beautiful park. Its a great place to learn about Texas history. The Mission Espíritu Santo and attached museum are worth walking through to learn about the Native Americans, Spanish Explorers, Missionaries, Texian Soldiers, and Settlers that walked this area. The park staff were extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. Toilets: Very clean restrooms. Picnic area: Nice shaded picnic area.
