Let s imagine I was employed at shucks tavern and oyster bar and due to a traumatic event involving my daughter, I had to leave immediately. Shortly thereafter, I was unceremoniously laid off. While I d love to chalk it up to a hypothetical, the unfortunate reality is that this actually happened to someone I know and love. It s hard to believe that any company would consider such a response remotely professional or compassionate, but here we are.

Awesome selection of oysters- I mean I m from up north/ oysters typically are $1-2 - even at high end restaurants. But hey you pay for what you get and money isn t an issue. If you can afford 12 oysters for $40. Then this is the place for you! Didn t come for anything else but the main entrees looked amazing as well and fairly priced!

In the heart of Galveston, just off the Strand and near the well-known Rudy and Paco s, Shucks Tavern and Oyster Bar stands out as a vibrant new addition to the local food scene. We wandered in on a whim and were immediately charmed by its clean, industrial modern decor. Fresh oysters on ice greet you upon entry, setting the stage for a delightful culinary experience. Cozy and inviting, with a hint of modern edge. The ambiance is perfect for a relaxed meal or a casual evening out. The bar area is especially welcoming, with friendly staff ready to make your visit memorable. **The Oysters:** A true highlight. The variety is impressive, featuring Gulf Coast favorites as well as fresh imports from the East Coast, West Coast, and Canada. On the recommendation of the oyster station attendant who was both knowledgeable and personable we opted for a dozen small, sweet oysters. House-made horseradish, addictive with a serious bite, pairs beautifully with their equally impressive cocktail sauce. The combination elevates the already fresh and flavorful oysters to another level. Shucks Tavern is a must-visit for oyster lovers. Its combination of excellent service, top-notch oyster selection, and cozy atmosphere makes it a standout in Galvestons dining scene. Whether you re a local or a visitor, this is the place to indulge in some of the best oysters around. This will definitely be my go-to spot for a fresh oyster fix!

We were in Galveston the weekend after Hurricane Beryl came through and not every restaurant was back open because of lack of power so we decided to try Shucks next to Mama Teresa s and it was incredible! Everything we ordered on the menu was delicious from the oyster appetizer to the gumbo to the house salad and then the fried shrimp platter was huge and amazing too. The service was phenomenal and the wait staff was super attentive and filled our glasses immediately without being asked which is very important to me. But bottom line, this place is awesome! Highly recommend!

As a fan of raw oysters, I was thrilled to find this gem for lunch, even if my husband wasnt as keen on the oysters. Upon arrival, we were given the freedom to choose our own seats, and our waitress immediately made us feel welcome. Recognizing my love for oysters, she kindly recommended a sampler platter, allowing me to savor a variety of flavors. Our meal continued with an Oyster BLT Po-Boy and a Chicken BLT sandwich, both accompanied by delectable onion strings. The Chicken BLT particularly won over my husband, who couldnt stop singing its praises. Throughout our dining experience, our server charmed us with her warmth and even shared insights about the tavern and other eateries owned by the same owner.

I used to like this place, had been a regular since I moved to the neighborhood earlier this year. I always brought my guests here, at least once a month I brought fellow oyster lovers and spent good money, and I frequently came solo. A few months ago there were some new hires who were extremely inappropriate, forgetful, struggled with orders. For example, one struggled with an order of two dozen oysters and a bottle of white wine, returning to the table 3 times to check the order. Another is foul-mouthed and sloppy wearing dirty tshirts and jeans. The hires continued, but I wanted to support the place since it was fairly new. My last visit to the establishment was the last straw. The manager and sloppy waitress were so unforgivably rude to me and my guests, I will not be returning. It is too bad, I came here every 1-2 weeks in the summer with the original hires. Oysters are great without question, the rest on the menu is okay, wine selection poor.

Beautiful and delicious food. No complaints on food whatsoever. The issue is more planning/management. If it s a Tavern, why are the waiters doubling as bartenders or vice versa? If it s an oyster place, why did they run out of Gulf oysters on a festival weekend? Not sure if I actually feel worse that they had Gulf oysters, but were saving them for oyster dishes (fried oyster po-boy, etc.). Very tight quarters seats under 50 (maybe 40) and that s with a full bar seating 12 small people. Not for the faint hearted as that slender walkway leaves little room for anyone to maneuver, much less don t let anyone sneeze or cough in there. Was very disappointed they didn t serve sweet tea it s unsweetened iced tea that you need to add sweetener to after the fact. Shrimp po-boy was flavorful. Not dressed like a New Orleans po-boy they had a mustard based remoulade and slaw. Very different from a real po-boy, nonetheless the shrimp was delightful. Shoestring-ish French fries. I wasn t a fan (I don t like cold fries), but my partner really enjoyed the taste. If you tend to get cold bring a wrap tons of vents that blow on you (and your food).

We stopped in for a quick dinner before a show at The Grand, which is right around the corner. We were running late and the servers were great at speeding us along. We shared six cold water oysters (Canada and Massachusetts), yummy gumbo, and a shrimp poboy sandwich that was very tasty. Weve enjoyed more leisurely dinners there in the past and theyve always had lots of different raw oysters to sample. We will definitely be back.

Their oysters are flown in from different regions but Shuck s isn t only for oyster lovers their appetizers and entrees are great! Try the Parmesan baked oysters. Their bar is the center of this place. Great atmosphere, great drinks (dirty martini with blue cheese olives or spicy ranch water) and the staff is always very friendly.

A cozy seafood bar that offers a little for everyone to order. Shrimp, ceviche, campechana, fish, gumbo and of course, oysters. For my oyster lovers, we ordered gulf coast oysters, which are under appreciated and tasty. But I also recommend ordering the east coast sampler. The best were from Katama Bay, MA and Mad House, MD. You can even watch them shucking the oysters for you at the bar! We also enjoyed the fresh gulf snapper ceviche and the shrimp cocktail or campechana . They were both tasty, although the cocktail had a little sweetness to it. Mmmm! Honestly, everything we tasted was delicious! I just wish I had more room to eat! It is a great spot for a date night, some me time, or getting together with a friends. Keep in mind the space is tight, hence Cozy! Totally worth adding this to my Must Eat spots in Galveston every time we visit! But don t take my word on it, head over and try it for yourself! You ll be thanking me later!

I enjoyed the oysters and drinks, however wasn t impressed by the red snapper entre (which, for $30 I was expecting to be kind of exceptional.) I ve definitely had much better for half the price. I would describe this place as a beautiful restaurant with very average food. I am more of a fan of the opposite (hole-in-the-wall-type establishments with great food). Service was very attentive. Overall I would recommend this restaurant only for the oysters and drinks.

This place was an accidental find. My little boy wanted pizza from the place next door. But it was an hour wait. This place was next door. I really wasnt expecting much, but then everything changed. The vibe was so relaxed and just right after walking around the strand in Galveston. I cant remember EVER getting a steak so perfect except when I made it. The oysters were just as amazing. The service was spectacular. I just cant say enough about this experience. The food, the service, and vibe was special.

Had a few minutes to kill and had heard about this place, so decided to stop in for some oysters and a drink. I was greeted very warmly as I walked in and got a table. I ordered a cocktail and a half dozen Raspberry (East Coast) oysters on the half shell. The oysters came out in just a few minutes and were situated nicely in crushed ice and served with horseradish, cocktail sauce, fresh lemon, and mignonette. They were delicious, even when slurped simply with only a squeeze of lemon. The drink had plentiful liquor in it and also had the crushed ice, which just makes everything better. Throughout my 25 min visit, I was checked on multiple times and always in a friendly manner. The ambiance of the place is really neat and the staff all seem very professional. Im gonna go back soon but will bring a friend next time.

+ mussels were delicious, lots of broth + blackened redfish, potatoes and vegetables were cooked perfectly, and delivered HOT (which is rare for broccoli and green beans) - mussels came with just two pieces of toasted bread. The broth was delicious and deserved more bread. - the lighting is WAY TOO BRIGHT, it ruins the ambiance, not romantic at all.

If you love oysters, this is the best place to be on the island! Great oyster selections, along with a small yet crafted menu. Staple wines & cocktails are also featured. This is an overall great place to dine! It has such a great atmosphere but unfortunately the size of the restaurant is not big party friendly (no more than 5 people at a time,) it is a small place. Other than that, enjoy!
