A small nature preserve of around twenty acres but a birding paradise and the only real place to take a walk in the woods on the island. One of those hidden gems of Galveston and very close to the state park, so worth the stop if you are heading there. The trail is also handicap accessible, which I am sure many people appreciate.

On the R side, marsh was dry when I came. But on the L across the street, theres a pond where there were so many birds, even lots of turtles! I saw Ibis, Cranes, Whistling Ducks, Willets. Lots of turtles. I used a telephoto lens so I did not disturb the animals as much.

This beautiful wetland conservation area is a quiet and well maintained area tucked near a housing development. The foliage and wetlands were matuculously maintained. The paths have plaquards to give history and explain what you could see. We were in awe of the colorful birds and wildflowers.

This is a nice little nature area in a residential neighborhood. And it is very small. Not to discount the variety of wildlife you will see here - I saw roseate spoonbills, herons, turtles. But dont expect to spend hours here. If youre in the area and want a quiet place for birding where you can take pictures with a telephoto lens, then this is a decent spot. Its clean and there is also a dedicated quiet area with benches where you can watch birds bathing or drinking in constructed baths (if youre patient). There are about 10 parking spots in a lot right outside the entrance. I visited on a normal weekday and there was plenty of parking.

Great place to go birding! Theres even a lot of birds and species across the street from the entrance and on houses nearby, lol. I went in the early afternoon but still had 22 species. The Black-crowned Night-Heron was most interesting bird for me personally (actually was across the street). The local birders there were very friendly and helpful. They said to come earlier and there are more species. Will go earlier next visit.

Every time I visit Galveston Island to bird; Lafittes cove nature society is a must. It has a beautiful walkway over a marsh that leads right into a oak forest with a gazebo and it has a grassy trail. You can see a multitude of bird species here. The list me and my girlfriend accumulated of bird species was 65 on 04/02/22. From migrating birds like Northern Parulas and Pectoral sandpipers to residential birds like Cardinals and mocking birds. Migrating birds and common birds that are all worthy of being observed. This spot is always fun to visit and you never know what kind of vagrant might surprise you here. Its a Birders paradise.

This almost feels like a nature preserve was put in the middle of this community and doesnt feel quite welcoming. I drove up to where my GPS told me to, and I was confused as to whether I was at the right spot or not. After I got over the fact it was in the middle of a community of very large beach houses, I walked the trail. It was OK. I didnt see a lot of wildlife.

Pathways range from boardwalk, concrete to grassy. The local club does an excellent job maintaining the property. Not a great place for kids unless they remain quiet as most of the area is designated a quiet zone.

I have to say, after coming here for quite some time, they have truly developed the preserve into a diabolical place for bird watching. The entrances and parking seem ample as there are 3 of them. The rules are posted clearly, and the actual set ups for bird watching are perfectly crafted. They have two drips, a wading depth pond with a well maintained boardwalk, and beautiful Gazebo. The plants are tuned for particular bird species and expertly places feeding locations are every where. I was there for two hours, post-spring fallout and we managed to record over 40 species. We hear maybe 50! The mosquitos are a plenty, so don t forget to treat beforehand , don t bring snacks or drinks, don t be loud, and be helpful! Everything from beginners to experts are there so it is highly educational and very fun. The star of the show was the Hooded Warbler as of 4-20-2018, fearless and good for photographing if you don t have a camera .

We went to bird and were able to find around 25+ species. Most of what we saw were in the water and not through the trail in the trees. We managed to see a couple birds in there with a bit of effort and glipses of movement allowing us to try tracking them long enough to identify them. It was a lovely trail with a breeze that felt amazing on a warm day in the beginning of April. We look forward to visiting it again sometime.
