I ordered a breakfast bowl and crunched on a rock. When I spit out the pieces the waiter wanted the napkin. He came back and said they couldnt find any rock then he said its from the beans, they come from the ground really dick thing to say. That did take my meal off, but still charged for the tea.

Omg! It was the greatest breakfast I ve had in Galveston! The burrito and avocado toast were way better than I ve had anywhere elseI So tasty, perfectly cooked and packed full of flavor! The place was decorated adorably and it was so clean inside! I can t believe I ve never even considered trying a Mexican restaurant when I eat out on the weekends! Second visit not as good shoulda stuck with what I got originally!

This is my go to breakfast burrito!! They use black beans and it is a large burrito! My buddy gets the divorciado or the chilaquiles and loves them. They have many different aqua fresas and coffee choices as well. I will be coming back.

I won t be able to comment on the food due to the fact that I didn t have any. I and my family walked into this restaurant, thinking we were going to get nice food and cozy dining experience. I couldn t be further from the truth. Not only did we have to wait an hour for food, multiple people that came after us with bigger parties ended up getting their food before us. My mother wasn t exactly the perfect customer but 1 hour for 3 dishes is absolutely insane. When my mother asked if the food was coming the waiter would always say Oh 5 more minutes , Our kitchen is extremely busy or They re coming out . This was to the point where we decided to get take away and when we asked for that they said Oh are you sure? The food is ready . We ended up staying on choice to get takeaway and I honestly doubt that packing food takes half an hour. My mother went up to the counter and nothing was prepared and she ended just paying for our drinks which was $4. We just walked out at this point, completely unsatisfied and hungry. I do understand yall were busy but what annoys me most is that groups after us ended up getting their food before us. I do not know if you thought you could just take your time because it was just a mother and her two kids or if it was because we were asian but this was completely unacceptable. Honestly shameful from such a high reviewing restaurant. Reply 1: that s how bad it is. You upset 3 of your customers (edit) The restaurant replied with Oh same three replies or whatever but not once have they even apologised.

Fantastic breakfast! Food was super flavorful, fresh, and generously portioned. Try the cafe de olla - its coffee with cinnamon, other spices, and cane sugar, and its fantastic. The chilaquiles Toluca were great, especially with the homemade hot salsa they have. The carnitas omelette was also really good. Friendly service was an added bonus. Well certainly be back.

Had chicken enchiladas. The chicken was tough and over cooked. Couldnt chew some of it. The tostadas were over fried, a dark brown color and greasy. Asked if I could get some tostadas that werent over fried and the waiter said well they are all mixed together... in other words no. Just visiting Galveston. Came here to eat because it had a 4.6 rating online. What are you gonna do?Would not recommend or eat here again.

Decided to stop here because of high star rating. I ordered machacado and egg, they somehow decided to add jalapeño onions to it. I didn t order it like that I wanted how it said in the menu. Also they brought out my food but no tortillas and I had to ask for silverware because they didn t bring me any. As I was eating a waitress walked by and burped as she walked past, common that s gross on its own let alone being a waitress at a restaurant. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. I hope the owner sees this.

What a gem of a place. The coffee is a rare recipe restaurants dont offer, loved it. The food portions are plenty to have leftovers. Taste is scrumptious, not your typical Tex-Mex, more authentic thanks to family owners working the kitchen. Decor is unique and the music is on point, had me dancing in my seat. Servers are prompt and further explained the food options. No TV but music is nice. They have a BYOB option too.

We went to Galveston this weekend just to get away. We were looking for a Mexican place to go eat cuss well why not? We searched up Café Canela and decided to go. When we arrived there was a 30 minute wait time. The family was a bit agitated but nothing too serious to handle. We had decided Mexican food so we were staying. The wait time was abt 15-20 minutes and they got us in. All the grownups order Menudo and my 10 yr old ordered their churro pancakes with bacon. Let me tell y all, the wait time was well worth it. This is by far one of the best Menudos we have ever had. Not even I (or my mother who s from a rancho) makes medido like this. It was full of flavor and the with the right amount of oregano, cebolla, cilantro and jalapeño it made it more perfect. Definitely recommend this tiny gem.

My family of three went to eat here and first came chips and nasty salsa was served complimentary. I ordered queso because the salsa was so bland and watery. The queso was very disappointing as well. Tasted like canned nacho sauce. We than ordered our dinner. I ordered chicken fajitas they were the worst ever only flavor was charred. Nothing about them were authentic. The charro beans full of grease the rice tasted many days old. To top it off when they brought it out it was sizzling so much that my legs were burned with little blisters from the splatter. It was so hot my vegetables burned under the chicken. So all I could taste was a burned flavor. My daughter s chicken tostadas were bland no seasoning. My husband had steak which was not as ordered, and the mole sauce was inedible. Also service was lacking we were never given refills the whole dinner. Disgusting just all around. Don t waste your time or money. We were very disappointed.

Pot coffee, for those who like it with all its ingredients, is difficult to find... as soon as they served it to us I knew that, at least, I would return to this place for one later. The food was no exception: the dishes were well prepared and abundant, seasoned with detail and presented with singular joy! The atmosphere with music and decorations are striking and pleasant. The cleanliness is 10/10 and the attention is not far behind with the kids on hand at all times. Recommendable!

Authentic and fresh. The Saturday Pozole, just enough spice to clear the sinuses, tender pork, and delicious vegetables. Very nice servers, impeccable cleaning.

They have really good food, I wish I would have discovered them sooner. However, Ive had 3 takeout orders and 2 of the 3 were missing items. They seem unorganized and clearly they continually leave items out that should either come with the dish or have been paid for. I wont do takeout again, theres just too much attention to detail lacking.

We came for the Caldo Pollo special, but it was barely lukewarm & the waiter forgot the tortillas & drinks til the very end. Also ordered pastor tacos & that plate too was near cold on arrival. The taste was all good, but just cold & crusty.

The food was delicious, the service was great, and the environment was comfortable. I would definitely recommend this place! The 5* is not because it was the best of everything. It is because it is everything that I hoped for, and I was not left wanting. I cant wait to go back and try more from the menu.

I ordered the one that called something like eggs divorced it s two eggs separated with two separate sauces. It s not a lot a lot of food, but dang did that taste incredible. I was drinking the sauce at the end with a spoon it was so good. Sebastian was my waiter. The sweetest and most attentive waiter. I d give this place 10 stars if I could. The reg coffee was good too. Usually coffee at places is watered down garbage. This was good.

We had tacos al pastor and Cafe de Olla. Food was delicious. I am not a coffee drinker but I tried the Cafe de Olla and I REALLY liked it. Ours was not served with a cinnamon stick, maybe we need to order it that way. We are definitely going back. The pictures posted of the food shows the variety and originality of this place. Our waiter was super attentive. Its a small dining area. We were fortunate that we didnt have to wait. Seems like a popular place as they were very busy. I hope for much success for them. They are working hard to be the best. Parking: Its in a business area with shared parking. Kid-friendliness: Kid menu has good options for kids

Visiting from TN, we found this hidden gem on Galveston island. All of the food was so delicious. We had the pozole, churro pancakes, tacos al pastor, fajita quesadilla and the carne azada. The cafe de olla was the best I ve ever tried AND they have home made flour tortillas. Will def be back.
