This is a luxury resort, so I feel the bed could have been a little more comfortable. Other than that, everything was great. The staff was welcoming, friendly, and helpful. The balcony views are exquisite, and the pool bar area is very inviting. I found the drinks to be a little expensive, but its a resort. Theres a parrot in the lobby. Please stop and say hi, or it will get upset and start yelling at everyone. Its pretty funny.

The room really needs a remodel and update. The shower head didnt work well, and water pressure made loud noise every time flushed the toilet. The room door has no acoustic or insulation that you can see the 1/2 gap all around it, and hear everything on the hallway. Loud music played somewhere until 2am. that we can hear in the room. For the price of room rate we paid for the weekend, this was a huge disappointment. Im not going back if theres no improvement or renovation soon.

The good: Front desk staff very friendly, helpful and polite. Rooms are nice and clean. Love the fact that I dont have to enter a room number to get on their wifi. Room service menu has some nice options conveniently on a tablet for you to order. The bad: The service at the Cove (pool area) was LACKING. I was there with my daughters. 23 minutes in, and no one had stopped to ask me if I wanted anything. At first I thought it was because I was sitting in the rear. I waved a waitress down across the pool. She locked eyes with me but kept on going wherever she was going. Another waitress (black hair and belly ring. Couldnt see her name) came over to ask a couple near me if they were doing okay. (They had drinks already). She was about to walk off until I called her and asked for a drink. Her response was her shift was about to be over and she would get another waitress for me. Nobody ever came. Furthermore, I saw her still servicing others 30 -35 mins after she told me her shift was over. At this point I am now even paying attention to their service girls. I notice a couple other guests were asked if they were doing okay and no one ever came to me even though I was in the same vicinity of the guests. Eventually, I would say about 45 mins after my encounter with waitress who was nonresponsive, someone (Catherine) finally came over and asked me if I wanted anything. She was sweet and polite and took care of me. The damage was done though. I left that pool area with a sour taste in my mouth. I wont be back here again. The reality is, it probably wont make any difference and I wont be missed. However, I like to go to where I am welcome. To Catherine and the front desk staff, thanks for making me feel welcome. To whoever the manager of the Cove is, please make sure no one else goes through what I go through. Resorts are supposed to be a getaway where service is essential. For the money one pays for a room, I shouldn t be having to strain my neck trying to get someone s attention to get a drink that I am going to pay for.

I would give a top-notch rating to the spa and the registration desk staff to be clear! The poolside service is less than desirable. I have been sitting at the pool for 2 1/2 hours and not a single staff member has greeted me or offered to take an order. I went to the bar and was able to obtain food and drinks. The bar staff, I will give a five but your pool service personnel if I could a zero,I would.

My wife and I stayed at the San Luis during Labor Day weekend and it was amazing! The decor, ambience and service was top notch. Van, the front desk person who check us in, mentioned the club 10 level for adults only and we were immediately sold. Complimentary bottle of prosseco, valet parking and breakfast up to 40 dollars was well worth the additional charge. The pool was incredible, well maintained and service was great. Breakfast orders needed to be placed before midnight and was a breeze to order. We set our breakfast time for 8am and it showed up right on time, piping hot and delicious. Overall, this was an amazing experience and we will be back.

Our family recently decided to do a quick weekend getaway, spend the day at the pool, rented a cabana, etc. When we arrived at the hotel Sunday around 11am, the party we were visiting with was granted a room immediately, while we with our infant daughter were informed wed need to wait, understandable because we were early. We unloaded our items onto a bell cart, and it was placed near the stairs and fountain where it would sit for the next hour. I noticed that the fountain was beginning to overflow, and mentioned to a valet/bellhop member that the water was overflowing and splashing, wind was blowing water onto our luggage cart. He assured me it would be moved and stored safely until we got our room. We walked inside the hotel to check-in to wait on our friends coming down from there room. About 20 minutes later we came out to leave the hotel for lunch and our cart was still sitting in the same place, and now our belongings were soaked... I had a $400 camera inside its packaging, unopened box that was ruined, my wifes laptop case was soaked, and many of our bags and belongings were wet. When we returned to the hotel around 1pm, our room was still not ready, and we had to retrieve all of our belongings from the cart in front of the main desk, including all of our baby items, many of which were still wet. We mentioned the fountain issue to the woman at the front desk and she assured us the issue would be taken care of, whatever that meant (we found out later, absolutely nothing). We had a nice afternoon at the pool, but had to wait until 4pm to finally get a room and put our baby down for a nap, really frustrating to know the hotel had low occupancy, staff were aware of our baby needing a room to nap and change etc, and still waiting until 4pm. Our room itself was not what we expected, AC wouldnt go below 70 degrees, bathroom old and outdated, shower head calcified and low water pressure... Ive stayed in much cheaper properties with much nice rooms. Upon checkout Monday morning, we called the front desk for a bell cart. We waited 20 minutes and no one came, I called back and they claimed they werent aware of the request, and theyd send someone. We waited ANOTHER 10 minutes and still no one came. We toted all of our belongings, a significant amount with a pack and play, baby belongings, and ours. As we stopped at the front desk, hands full, we were not asked if we needed help or how our stay was, just that we needed to check out. I informed the front desk worker of our displeasure and he simply expressed that hed relay the message to management, sure. Overall, we were very disappointed with our stay considering the incredibly high price for a Sunday evening stay with low occupancy. Our room was nearly $500, we spent nearly another $500 at the pool and cabana, etc. I would expect with those kind of expenditures in what is supposed to be the nicest hotel in Galveston, luxury, that would be treated to that type of service, and it was closer to a Holiday Inn experience. No one ever took care of anything as promised, and we werent followed up with at all. I wish I could say wed be open to coming back, but knowing the cost vs. experience, I cant say we would.

Upon arriving at the resort, we were offered a room upgrade for $60 with the promise of exclusive access to an adults only pool. We were able to take advantage of this the first night and it was wonderful. The second day, the adults only pool we were promised access to became restricted and only those who had purchased cabanas in that area were allowed to us them. We decided to use the lounge chairs by the regular pool. Keep in mind, there was nothing on these chairs stating we could not sit there or that the chairs were reserved. This was fine until we had been there about 2 hours. Abruptly, a staff member came up to us and demanded that we leave our seats because a VIP had arrived and they MAY want to use these loungers. I had interacted with at least 3 staff members prior to this employee and no one told us we could not use these chairs. I told the employee to give me just a few minutes to collect our belongings. He loomed over me and started trying to move my belongings. I was extremely dissatisfied with the interaction. The upgrade we paid for also claimed that our suite would be ultra-modern. I guess popcorn ceilings are back in style. The servers and housekeepers were great. We will likely not return to this resort.

Breath of fresh air!!! We came here after a horrible experience at the Galvez and the staff could not have been more accommodating for my family of 5 (shout out to Brandon!). Even though we did not have prior reservations they immediately got us into a FULL ocean view room. The room was huge with a balcony, very clean, beautiful view, awesome pool area, giant free parking lot in the back of the hotel, everything was easily accessible and most of all a friendly staff!! We also saw multiple security guards during our stay so we felt very safe. This was our 1st time staying here but now this will be the ONLY place we stay. This place is great. 2nd time staying here. The views are great, right across from a clean beach. Youll have to rent your own chairs and umbrellas or bring your own, the hotel does not provide that. The steakhouse has some amazing food and is a top tier restaurant. We were offered an upgrade to the 10th floor (adults only) that came with unlimited water, fruit, chocolate and snacks. It was +60 but came with free in room breakfast and valet parking and a bottle of Prosecco. My only minor complaint was the price and quality of drinks. Family friendly but can offer some more quiet rooms if you ask for the 10th floor. Rooms: 10th floor rooms are very nice, large and recently updated Food and drinks: Ihop, Landrys and the rainforest cafe are right next door. The steakhouse is amazing. Tons of dine In room dining options are available.

We have been coming here for years. Always have had great experiences with everyone. However after our visit last week we were left disappointed with a few things. Starting on a positive note the pool was amazing as always and the pool staff was too. The rooms are older but nice and clean. Valet was great too. The face painting for the kids was amazing. The lady y all hire every year always delivers and is great with the kids. The negative. Our check in and out experience was disappointing. Also the women standing in the front of the hotel patrolling the halls was of no help when I asked about the kids activities for the week and she said they stopped Wednesday we ve been coming here multiple times a year for many years and they always have great activities for families. The situation could have been explained much better and she was rude and not helpful. It s not a good look for yoir hotel to have the least friendly people at check in and check out and in the hall way of your hotel. Yall should hire your restaurant or pool staff to run the front desk.

The San Luis Resort is a beautiful resort. It is a little older but is kept up. We opted for the Club 10 upgrade which was an additional $100 per day, but overall worth it. It covers your valet parking, in room breakfast and a few other amenities. We didnt eat at any of the restaurants but the food from room service was very good. They clean the pool & hot tub daily (we watched them from our room) which is good to know because the pool is very popular but not overly crowded. The pool bar was a little slow (popular place), and the drinks were ok. The room was very nice, everything clean and working . I would stay here again but will probably check out a couple of other resorts in Galveston as well

I ve been here twice and both in the summer, so I will rate towards that. The rooms are very outdated and need major paint work. The food is good and so is the customer service. The beach is right across the street. There are also grocery stores and different shops near, you won t know until you get out and drive. Walking is ALOT and you will get tired fast. The beach makes up for everything. They also charge $10 to use their microwave, very weird and money hungry. Room service is quick, friendly, and fast. I don t think we will be coming again though, two times a charm.

We took a family trip to this resort and it was so not worth the money. Lets start from the beginning. We booked with Expedia that specifically stated pay upon arrival. They contacted us at 730A for and ask for the payment. Upon arrival, the hotel appeared very nice and modern we soon found out that was not the truth. Before we get to that, lets begin with the Aliesha the front desk receptionist with the horrible attitude. She initially told us they could accommodate us checking in before 4 with 5 rooms but then told us no they werent. I received a text an hour later that stated my 84 year old mom room was available so I approached the front desk. She told me the text was an error. Thank God for Timothy who was willing to get us in our rooms with one simple call to housekeeping. Now, the outdated and dirty rooms that were $419 a night. The fridge in my room was gross and shoved in a space that didnt fit. We put a chair in front to keep it from tumbling on my toddler. The bathrooms of all 5 rooms had to be cleaned upon entry. We asked for a microwave the rental was $10 and the microwave was so ancient it begin smoking when using it. We had to ask several times to receive basic items. One time I called back after 20 min and was told, oh you still needed it. We wont even discuss how jacked up our bill was with charges for parking that never occurred because all our rooms didnt even have cars. My suggestion is to allow the valet crew run the entire hotel because they are the most professional and effective workers in the building. Besides the valet crew it was great to have the pool open until 2am, however, there was a mouse running around it one night.

My love and respect for this place took a huge hit. Me and my family had been coming to this place for years because our grandmother had partially owned one of the condos. I was planning on staying there during a week in August. However, we were told the condo is no longer available to use, because it received excessive water damage during Hurricane Beryl, and nobody is available to fix it. I find it impossible to believe a 5-star hotel structure this huge thats been around for decades isnt probably designed to withstand rain from a small category 1 Hurricane. And its even more inexcusable that whatever damage it received couldnt be repaired within a month. We were told somebody ripped out the floor boards and dried water from water damage..... however, nobody is coming around to replace them, for unknown reasons. And even in the off chance that the condo gets repaired, summer will already be over and Schlitterbahn and Pleasure Pier will be closed. And apparently, the people in charge dont want to offer any compensation or make up time to my grandmother who owns the condo. Such horrible and lazy business practices by these people.

The San Luis Resort is beyond magnificent! I recently stayed here for a business trip and was blown away by the conference center. First and foremost, the hotel has excellent parking with top-notch security, which ensured our cars were safe an important aspect when attending a conference. The conference room was perfect, providing a secure and spacious environment for our events. The guest rooms were spectacular, and due to the large event, we were upgraded to VIP for a late check-in. We were astounded by the VIP floor amenities, including cookies, apples, a lovely breakfast, and various snacks available throughout the day with our key card. Our room was beautiful, offering stunning views of the beach a wonderful sight to wake up to. One highlight for my children was the water slide at the resort, which led directly into the pool. The poolside service was exceptional, with waitstaff ensuring our kids had food while they played for hours. Additionally, the resort s ice cream shop and breakfast buffet made our stay even more enjoyable and convenient. Overall, the San Luis Resort provided an outstanding experience, and I highly recommend it for both business and leisure stays. *Recognized with honor by Lovely Is YOUR Story. This resort is an excellent place to visit, but I encourage you to do your research before you stay here. The rooms are outdated and below average for the price. Make sure to call and ask if there is any construction during your stay. Our room was very loud with construction noises starting at 830 am and lasted until 5pm. The front desk could have cared less about it, which added insult to injury. Instead of offering a solution, the manager told us that the construction was only on the condo side and didn t affect our room, which left us speechless. Do yourself a big favor and limit your stay to the resort pool and restaurants, which are all very impressive. The staff at the pool and restaurants (especially The Steakhouse) really do the heavy lifting for this resort. They truly cared about making our stay memorable. I wish I could say the same about our experience with the hotel room and the front desk staff. For the price point, you deserve better. Edit (7/19/24): FYI - the auto reply from the owner that you see after every message directs you to website that requires your phone number and address to leave a review. I am not certain, but it feels like another effort to get your information to send advertisements.

WARNING do not leave belongings behind after you check out. THEFT from house keepers. And the item will be considered lost and found . Even though it s not actually lost. Basically meaning it s a free for all, for whoever cleans the room after you leave. The Resort does not care. It s been 3 weeks we ve been dealing with this, thinking corporate would actually care to do something but all they care about is money on their end and not anything to do with the customers. My wife s wallet was stolen by a housekeeper after it was left in our room and we checked out. Didn t realize she didn t grab it until we got home and called up there. Long story short, we were gas-lighted saying well why did you hide it, why didn t you put it in the safe . Okay I m Sorry but I don t think that s the point, it could of been placed on the middle of the bed, end of the day, it should NOT of been stolen! Then they said, once you check out, any of your items that are left behind in the room are considered lost and found. I m sorry WHAT. Then my wife tells them again, it was STOLEN and was not LOST. And the lady had the audacity to tell my wife, they are honest people do you know them? Again I m sorry do YOU know them?? You don t know them personally you have no idea who they are, but we tell you one of those house keepers STOLE my wife s wallet that was in my room there and you re saying they are honest... We got police involved and of course they couldn t find any evidence, cause that s realistic of them find anything right?.. Not. This is disgraceful on how this resort went upon this whole thing. Again if you want stuff stolen leave it in the room, don t bother trying to ask for compensation or the item back cause you will get nothing in return but made a fool and mockery of. **Overpriced and Disappointing** While the exterior of the San Luis Resort in Galveston, TX, is nice and inviting, the experience inside falls drastically short, especially for the $700 per night rate. For that price, you would expect much more. The parking fee is a staggering $100, which is outrageous. The service is horrible, with arrogant personnel and poor management. Despite booking two rooms, they were not ready when we arrived, and check-in was delayed until 5:00 pm, an hour past the promised time. The cleanliness of the rooms left much to be desired. The only redeeming feature was the spa, but even that is overpriced. The resort is very old and desperately needs improvements that should be funded by the high rates they charge. While their advertisements paint a rosy picture, the reality is different. Ordinary guests are treated poorly unless they have a recognizable name. You end up paying an exorbitant price for standard rooms and arrogant service. The pool is outdated and not family-friendly, catering only to adults. Unfortunately, this is the only large hotel in the area, but I would not recommend staying here.

Very respectful staff, the resort was clean and extremely walkable. If you re flying into Houston it would be ideal to stay here if you don t get a rental because it s in a great location! The pool is very nice, especially at night and during the day you have an ocean view. I highly recommend this resort!

Id say this place is a 4 star family friendly hotel/resort. It is absolutely worth the price tag. It has several in house food options, which are all 100% worth the price tag. No matter what room or restaurant I spring for, i think its worth it. I want to come here to splurge & feel well taken care of. Walkability: I really love the fact theres an IHOP & Rainforest Cafe literally next door & seafood restaurants within shouting distance if I dont want to eat on site.

Service: the service I must say was the worst I ve ever experienced at a resort. My husband and I are very clearly black. When we were at the pool, the only black couple. Not ONCE were we served by the servers. The third party booking site mentioned a gym, however, the hotel did not mention it at all not even on their own website or map. I called the front desk and he gave me directions. I walked the hotel passing multiple employees looking for it. No one greeted me, no one asked to assist me. I eventually ended up in the hotel basement where I was completely alone and lost. I ve stayed at several resorts around the world and have never been ignored so much. Room: I booked a room with a private balcony . However, our balcony was literally on the lobby roof. See picture. Men literally walked across the roof DURING our stay. We were not informed about this and there were several time our doors were unlocked and/or curtains opened. Dinner: Their #1 steakhouse restaurant was horrible. Booked reservation was for 8:45. We were seated at 9:20. Did not receive meal until 10:20. Food was not worth the wait nor the price.

It was STOLEN by your STAFF and you re telling me nothing you can do?? That s why they steal because those sorry house keepers KNOW they can get away with it!! I am so LIVID with this resort when my family spent outrageous amount of money there and in the end my wallet gets stolen by their STAFF and they said pretty much oh well . We paid $2,700 for two nights here and are currently on our second night as Im writing this review. On our last visit to Galveston Seawall, we stayed at the Hilton next to The San Luis, and it was great. However, the San Luis caught my eye with its elegant appearance, so we decided to try it this time. We booked the family suite for a total of $2,700, not including parking, tips, etc. I thought it would be worth it, but I was wrong. The hotel staff are miserable, with the exception of the valet guys, who were upbeat and welcoming. The room was subpar with paint splatters, low quality craftsmanship, mold on the ceiling, hair in the bathtub, and my feet were black from walking around barefoot. There werent any USB ports by the bed so we had to unplug the lamps to charge our phones. The pillows were so overstuffed that most of us slept without one because it was uncomfortable. The air conditioner sounded like a freight train turning on and off all night, and the balcony view was nothing but a concrete roof. We kept the blinds drawn the entire time and avoided the balcony. Now, about the pool. Dont be fooled by the photos. It s the smallest, dingiest, and dirtiest pool Ive ever seen. There were no chairs available, and the pool was packed with drunk adults. It looked like a cesspool. One of our kids even spotted a large loogie floating in the water, and that s when we left and havent been back since. We have one more night to go and will make the best of it, but I wanted to warn families considering this place. Do not waste your money. Go to the Hilton. Better price, cleaner, nicer staff, and a much more enjoyable pool. We visit Galveston a few times a year and will never come back to The San Luis Resort.

worst place in all of Galveston, all hype, they say they pool is heated, NOT HEATED, they say they have 24 hour room service, THEY DO NOT HAVE 24 HOUR ROOM SERVICE, everything they advertise is a lie, the service is 3rd world standard if they ever show up to the door, the cold swimming pool is a zoo of un-behaved drunks with no security if you dont get shot coming in the back of the hotel your most likely get shot at the pool by a drunk illegal alien (read the Galveston news about this death trap hotel).

This is my second stay at the SLR. I genuinely love the accomodations at this hotel. The parking is nearby and beach access is literally steps away. I did miss one feature this trip that was a highlight of our last stay and is the reason I did not rate it 5 stars this time. They seem to have removed the slide from their pool area and replaced it with rentable cabanas and a smaller private pool. As a vacationer with kids, the slide down the big rock into the pool was a huge splash that all 3 of us kids and kids at heart had fun on during our first visit. It was one of the top 3 reasons I booked this hotel and to see it now replaced with a money-grab is quite sad. So if you are looking for a bit of nostalgia on your next visit, skip the pricey rate of this hotel and stay somewhere 1/3 the price.

There was a lot of noise everywhere all night and in the morning couldn t sleep well. This was an expensive disappointed.

Great hotel but not quite the resort hotel it aspires to be. They skimped on too many little things. For example, plenty of space for a little table and a bigger TV. Bathrooms are nice but could be bigger with double sink and fan. Pool is lovely but short on staff. Nearby activities: Across from the beach and near lots of restaurants Food and drinks: 3 restaurants at hotel. Also has swim up bar and little sweets shop. Food and service were quite good at both restaurants we ate at.

Everyone, staff wose, that we encountered were polite and helpful. The bar inside, is a little much, but luckily there is a nice semi-quiet pool bar outside. Wine options werent great, but thats okay! It is not cheap, obviously, so dont come empty handed. The bird was cool too. They offer many activities for the families which was also nice. We booked two rooms for our daughters graduation celebration and we were impressed from the moment we stepped foot in the hotel. We even found this adorable decoration to welcome us--our daughter loved it and felt super special. First class experience for sure! I would love to say that I wouldnt hesitate to stay here again, but there were two details that would make me rethink booking the San Luis Resort in the future: One was the bathroom door design. It is a barn door with a recessed finger space so you can slide it. Both my husband and I crunched our fingers in the door first time we used it because it doesnt stop in time. Your fingers stop it. We got used to that. The real flaw in the bathroom door is that it does not lock. If you are traveling with people who have the utmost respect for your privacy, thats cool, but if you have a family looking for opportunities to play jokes on you, you will not experience a single poo in peace while staying here. The second thing I found extremely disturbing was the macaw in a cage in the lobby thats been there since 1991. It is trapped by itself in there and every time you pass by, it is playing with the same bell, all day long. I think it long ago lost its mind. So, so sad to see.

I have stayed at this hotel prior to this stay, rooms were dated, but clean, and doors were in proper working order. This stay, the room is dated, and dirty, definitely not worth it. We found an earring by the tub, which lets me know the bathroom was not throughly cleaned. The bathroom door is hanging off the hinges, which is ridiculous for this establishment. The entire room is dusty , feels disgusting, had to wipe down, and clean the bathroom. I guess its a hit or miss with this hotel, shouldnt be for what the hotel tries to portray.

The booking went through a third party with many fees that were needed for one thing after another. We wanted a place that offered a washer and dryer in the rental since our stay would be for 6 days. When we arrived, there was no washer/dryer in the unit even though it was stated as such. There was no indication given otherwise, such as on site. After contacting the owner through Airbnb, it took several hours to hear from someone. They insisted this unit had the W/D, of which I had to send a picture to prove this wasnt the case. They offered compensation, but nothing came of it. The unit was beautiful with great views but was way overy priced with all the additional fees. Rooms: Small master bedroom, you need to side step your way on one side of the bed. Nearby activities: Lots of tourist activities to make everyone happy. The San Luis is an incredible resort sitting on top of the 1900s Fort Crocket Foundation. The hotel has everything you need. Great restaurants, shops, beautiful views of the ocean, a heated pool and hot tub.. its a very well-rounded resort. We came in for our anniversary and enjoyed every minute here. The staff are fantastic and so is everything else. I will definitely be back and highly recommend it for anyone one a vacation or just getting away for a couple days. Rooms: Level 10 Club is the place to be if youre without kids and like quiter Spot. The rooms are well laid out. You have a nice couch, chair, e-tablet, amazing bathroom, and a classy theme to the floor. Walkability: With in a 40-minute walk to the pleasure pier, Nicks and the guides to the east. The only 5-minute walk to IHOP, laundrys, and the rain forrest cafe. Food and drinks: The drinks are the pool are good. They do get backed up ... very often.
