Guess I should have read the low reviews before coming here because they are accurate. Prepare to be followed around by workers. They stand there staring at you. When when you look up, they look past you or pretend to be reading a pamphlet. Hard to enjoy any art this way, being stared at while simply reading information next to paintings. At least it was free. Id be even more upset if I had to pay for this subpar experience

Love this gem of a museum! Has a huge collection of western art, Remington, Whistler, all the greats, but much more, too! They have some nice modern works, too, that are not at all Western themed. Give them a stroll & you will NOT be disappointed.

Art was lovely as were most of the workers, except for the one with the fried shoulder length Draco Malfoy hair (didn t catch a name tag ). Will VERY unsubtly hover even if you ve done nothing to warrant hovering (besides be non-white?) which makes it kinda hard to enjoy your time, and apparently it s not a particularly Uncommon experience. Boo that guy. I d still recommend going ! Just wanted to warn people about the lurker.

I m 65 years old, I ve been visiting the Amon Carter since l was a young child. I am a frequent visitor to the Cultural District. In all of these years l cannot remember having anything but a wonderful experience; but then there was a visit a month ago that left me shaken. Why? you may ask. I committed a minor faux pas at one exhibition and within an instant this extremely rude, abrasive milquetoast with the light blue designer glasses essentially accosted me about the matter. Despite me being quite contrite about the error he seemed to get increasingly angry when l asked unrelated questions about the exhibition, his arms even flailing about briefly. I hope this docent, helper or self-appointed gendarme is no longer there. I still lovingly award the Amon Carter five stars and plan to visit again soon.

Do not go here if you are a person of color!!!!!! My husband and I went here for a field trip with our son and and the people there literally followed us everywhere and told is not to take pictures (FYI we were not taking pictures) there were interactive art work for guests and we were told not to touch it that we were not allowed to touch only to look. And this is the funny part there were people of NON COLOR that touched everything and took pictures and nobody said a single word to them we were also told that we had to stand in the middle of the floor to look at the paintings. They made NOTES OF EVERYWHERE WE WENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this one guy followed us from downstairs to up stairs and all over that museum I will be posting on social media on how badly they treated us!!!!!!!!! Never again!!!!!!!

I just moved to Fort Worth 3 months ago. And I am absolutely in love. The entire city has such a sophisticated but warm, small-town feel. Lovely and clean downtown, good traffic system (esp after Austin) and eady parking options. But the variety of museums and theater are unparalleled by any other city in Texas. The Bass family and their contributions have really done amazing things for this city - everything is so well-done. The Amin Carter museum is a must-see. Their exhibits are stunning and so so interesting with a variety of contributions from all different types of artists. Highly recommend.

Get thee to the museum! Visit your favorites or enjoy the new. The Texas Prairie Grass inspired exhibition just opened and be prepared to be captivated. As an outdoor inspired Texan, this show spoke to my heart in the language that reads nature in all her mystery. I could hear the wind and feel the Prairie Grasses of my grandparents pastures as my eyes and heart devoured each inch of this space. If abstraction is more to your liking, head up the rainbow topped stairs to the recently opened mid-century sculptural and lithograph pieces to see what they become with your viewing. And see if, like me, your mind goes wild with conjecture as you walk up the ramps lined with an installation designed specifically for this space at the Amon Carter. As always, the museum is free but welcomes donations!
