A Disappointing Dining Experience at Shady Oaks When I first entered the restaurant, I was excited for a pleasant dining experience. Unfortunately, it quickly turned into one of the worst restaurant experiences I ve ever had. From the moment I sat down, the prices on the menu were shockingly high for what they were offering. As I would soon find out, the food was not only overpriced but also of incredibly poor quality. I ordered a rack of ribs and a side of mac and cheese, expecting a hearty meal. However, when the food arrived, I was stunned by how little there was. The ribs looked like they d been picked clean before they even got to my plate. There was barely any meat on them, just a few sad scraps hanging off the bone. As for the mac and cheese, it was even worse. When I say that the mac and cheese had rust in it, I mean it literally. At first, I thought there might be some spices in the dish, but on closer inspection, I realized there were actual specks of rust. It was disgusting, and I couldn t believe this had passed any kind of kitchen inspection. Needless to say, I couldn t eat it. As bad as the food was, the service was somehow even worse. My waiter, Daryll, made the experience unbearable. From the moment he came to take my order, he had an attitude that was both rude and dismissive. He seemed like he had no interest in being there, and it felt like I was a burden just for sitting at his table. His demeanor was sour, and his interactions with me were laced with impatience and irritation. Throughout the meal, Daryll kept checking in on me, but not in a friendly, professional way. It was more like he was hovering, constantly reminding me to finish up and pay the bill. I hadn t even had the chance to finish what little food I had before he started hinting that I should settle the check. It felt like I was being rushed out, even though the restaurant wasn t busy. When the check came, I was shocked to see that a gratuity tip had already been added, without any warning or explanation. I didn t appreciate the lack of transparency, and when I asked Daryll about it, he lied. He tried to claim that it was a standard practice, but I knew that wasn t true. Adding a gratuity is typically reserved for larger parties, and I was dining alone. What made it worse was how insistent he was that I pay the gratuity. It wasn t optional, according to him, and he kept pushing me to pay right away. His pressure tactics were not only uncomfortable but completely inappropriate. I was left feeling cheated and manipulated. I also noticed that there seemed to be discrepancies in the amounts on the check. When I asked for clarification, Daryll was evasive and seemed irritated that I would even question it. He gave me no clear answer, which only made me more suspicious about what was going on. To add insult to injury, the overall dining atmosphere was disappointing. The restaurant was dimly lit, and not in a cozy, romantic way more like they were trying to hide how shabby the place really was. The tables were sticky, and the general cleanliness left a lot to be desired. At no point during my meal did I feel valued as a customer. The combination of terrible food, rude service, and sneaky billing practices left a bad taste in my mouth literally and figuratively. It s one thing to have a bad meal, but it s another to feel like the staff doesn t care about your experience. I left the restaurant feeling like I had been taken advantage of. I had paid far too much money for a meal that I couldn t even eat, and the service was so poor that it ruined any chance of me ever coming back. I can confidently say that I won t be recommending this restaurant to anyone. The restaurant didn t just fail to meet my expectations it was a complete disaster from start to finish. I wouldn t even give this place one star if I had the option. Daryll s behavior, in particular, was a major factor in how terrible my experience was. He clearly has no business being in the service industry.

We ordered food via Uber eats. After receiving our meal, we realized that the chopped brisket baked potato was missing all of the brisket. NO MEAT, whatsoever. When we called to ask the manger to please have staff start remaking it, they did, but they acted as if they were disgruntled about it. Acted as if THEY were put out of their way for us asking for them to please correct THEIR on mistake. And give us the meat, that we paid for, Upon getting there, I CANNOT believe the disrespect I was confronted with. The manager - who would not even state his name without argument proceeded to tell me that I have no business coming in there with an attitude and then started threatening us, to appear high and mighty in front of his staff First and foremost, we are THE CUSTOMER. We have been a customer here for almost 10 years and I am completely disgusted with the disrespect we were just met with. He needs to be fired. As manager is an individual with leadership skills tasked with leading, planning, staffing, and organizing an organization. Mr. John Moore - if he even gave us an accurate name, is none of the above. You should be embarrassed of your staff. Im surprised it did not end up with the police there. We will NEVER be returning, nor will we ever host another family outing there again. I hope this place gets shut down!

If I could give no stars I would. I placed an order online. Got the email stating my order was received and when it would be ready. No where during the submitting:inputting my card info was there any problems or issues. One I got to the establishment and said I was there to pick up I was informed that your was declined and the order isn t ready and I was taken back because I wasn t informed of this via email or phone. When placing my order I was instructed to give both email and phone, only for the girl to say the manager has instructed not to let you know when this happens. But my order went through completely fine. And typically when you input ANYTHING wrong with your card information you cannot submit an order. The girl said the manger who instructed her not to call was not there and then the manager that was there just said sorry it s because of fraud? That just sounds ridiculous to me. Needless to say I left empty handed because I had already waited 30 minutes for my order to be ready only to be told it wasn t due to declined card after I received confirmation that was order was received via my Visa card. Not helpful nor accommodating. Didn t say hey give us your card and we can have your order ready in 10 minutes. Nothing. Was treated like I was trying to get free food at an already empty establishment who could ve used some business I m sure.

Asked for dry rub ribs and came out with sauce. Sent back and all they did was scape sauce off. 2nd order was good as ordered but the brisket was slim pickings mostly outside bark and fat even though asked for moist I would think there would be some meat. Service was great and management tried to make things better for us and removed the cost of the 1st order. Side items were good and we left with our hunger filled.

I love the decor of this place. It s like a log cabin w/ a massive fireplace inside. Patio is awesome too when the weather is compatible. The food is exemplary and you will love the bread in the bag. Be careful it is addictive. Quite a few more options than your average barbecue place, which is nice for groups that have diners who are not big in the barbecue. I don t understand those people, but I respect them. Fun bar, too. If you have five or six people, I recommend the garbage can lid experience! Ask your server who will undoubtedly, be quite friendly. Parking: Huge parking lot.

Overall, we had a great experience at Shady Oak BBQ. We are from KC, so are a bit picky when it comes to BBQ. We were a party of 7 and we had no wait on a Saturday night. Our waitress was great. They had amazing sweet tea! The bread was a hit! It was a good start to the meal and the flavor was great! We ordered the onion rings, as well, and we would definitely recommend them! The pulled pork sandwich was just okay. It lacked flavor and the texture was a little mushy. The sausage was a fancy hotdog, so we would not order that again. Overall, the meal was good, the atmosphere was fun and relaxed and we had great service. We would recommend trying Shady Oak BBQ.

I waited for a few minutes at the front and there were two employees standing right there in front. They were doing nothing but talking to themselves and a complete disregard for us. What was worse is there were two booths available they we could have sat at. I left are a few more minutes and went to another BBQ restaurant.

For exampleId ask for a 2 meat plate with turkey and marbled brisket and sides of beans and coleslaw. Id then get asked what meats I wanted. Id repeat the meats then Id get asked what sides I wanted. Just seems as though the staff werent really listening.

We ordered our appetizer as soon as she came to our table for our drink orders and after we ordered our entrees. The appetizer didn t come until after we were nearly done with our entrees, the manager(I m assuming because he didn t make himself known, just came up to us and told us what was going on) came and comped the appetizer and we ended up taking it to go. I ordered the ribs and my fiancé ordered the brisket I wouldn t say the bbq here is the best, the Mac and cheese tasted like Kraft the best part was the baked potato overall I d say it was okay but not good enough to come back

My wife were at this location this past Saturday evening, I must say that it was a major disappointment. The brisket was very dry and had little to no bark or smoke ring or smoke flavor. It was almost like it was cooked to hot and waaaaay to fast or it was kept in a warmer to long. This was a huge let down because Shady Oak has been a favorite of ours since we met.

The actual BBQ is fantastic, with great brisket and sausage, but the portions are tiny. The sides are lacking any sort of luster, and I just kinda feel like they are fillers for small portions of meat. I can live without corn...nobody likes corn, but luckily, the rolls are fantastic. It would be nice if they included some butter, but I had some grass fed salted butter at the house that paired well.

Not sure what was happening, but our waitress seemed overwhelmed even though there were not very many people in the restaurant. Took a long time to place our order in a long time to get our food. Kind of soured the experience of it after a long day of travel. Worth checking out for yourself and making your own decision. Maybe they were just having an off night?

One of the other waitresses saw us waiting and told us that they were waiting for our waitress to arrive. She also let us know that all the ribs were done for the night. Why she couldnt have just waited on us, no idea. So no one thought to take our order until she got there. So we just got to wait at the table. Then, a couple of food items we tried to order they didnt have in stock.. no chicken.. no mashpotatoes. The excuse given was, It was a really busy day for us. I dont doubt that, but it wasnt busy while we were there. The bread came out first. It was served in a bag and was hot. That was great, except no knife was provided to cut it. So we had to try to rip it until the waitress came back & we brought it to her attention that we needed one. Food was served on huge plates with barely any food on them. One of the combo plates that was supposed to have corn was missing from the plate. No attention to detail. They tried to make it right by giving us blackberry & peach cobbler. That was a very nice gesture and much appreciated, but it was nothing to write home about. Im sure this place is great but it wasnt for us. We wont be back.

Not sure if this place is under new management. This used to be my favorite place, and somewhere I would take guests. The last two times I went, the ribs were room temperature, didn t seem freshly made, and it almost looked like different racks of ribs were put together. Very disappointing, probably won t be back.

Food was mediocre. Brisket appeared pre sliced. Outside was dry. Turkey was watery deli meat. The mashed potatoes were flavorful. Mac and cheese was average. The bread was really good. It had a touch of garlic. Overall, it was decent, but not what I would think of typical Texas bbq.

My girlfriend and I have eaten here several times. Tonight was the first time we had such horrible service. The waitress was almost nonexistent, and very inattentive, so much so I had to get up and get my own refill of sweet tea after waiting with the empty glass on the edge of the table for about 10 minutes. I also had to get up and ask somebody to find her to bring us our check so we could pay. Do better Shadyoaks. The only reason I left any tip at all is because I did not feel like waiting for my change.

Grain of salt; BBQ on a Monday is not common. The menu is not just BBQ but has a blend of BBQ and burgers. I had the 2 meat plate as brisket and sausage with fries and corn. The brisket was a mix of dry and juicy. The juicy was fork tender and had great bark. The dry was right at the border of crumbly but not. The sausage was okay but a little greasy. Fries were fries, and there were lots. Overall I was happy to have it on a Monday night but do not think I would go on a Fri or Sat.

We have never had a bad experience at Shady Oaks. Until last night. Party of 4, we were seated in near bar. I. guess the bartender had to do double duty, she was not a friendly server, it was not busy in this area, she had no more than 2 tables of r people at one time while we were there, never offered refill on anything but water, we all had sodas or margaritas. Food came out with hot sides, cool meat. the brisket was the driest Ive ever had there. Between the unfriendly server and brisket, I was horribly sad. we brought out-of-town friends here. We told them its the best around. We arrived at 5pm on a Thursday night. it was not busy at all. very disappointing, to say the least.

Until recently I held this restaurant in high regard but there was a problem with my last visit there. I communicated with the restaurant and they did not see fit to even reply. So I attach here my message to them and let you judge: Hi! Ive been in a few times, always to Take-out and was again last night. i have always been more than satisfied with the Brisket so I ordered a pound for my wife and I to enjoy. The first bite or two the meat seemed dry rather than fresh, juicy and delish as it always has been; so I guessed a slice of the interior would be better,..but still dry. I asked my wife and she had noticed it too. we drowned it in sauce and made it work but I felt disappointed at the loss of 23 dollars for less than your best pound. I thought to rate Shady Oaks on Google but thats irreversible and this was just a fluke. But I thought someone should know and maybe make some corrections; whether that be at the Smoker or simply a matter of it sitting-out too long..I dont know. I hope this helps yall maintaining consistency. Thanks for listening. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Likely your visit will be luckier than mine but mind you; dont have a problem or even offer a corrective suggestion.

Pulling in, the parking lot is well marked and free of potholes. Aesthetically, the landscaping is beautiful and the building is rustic and inviting. Walking in, the decor is pleasing and provides an atmosphere of rustic country with music to enhance. The best seats are on the back, north side of the restaurant, in the bar area where you can see across the porch and to the foliage. Service was excellent. Glass never empty, answers to all questions, and our food arrived quickly. We did not believe that this was the best BBQ we have ever had, but it was tasty and we enjoyed the whole experience.

Of all the BBQ places weve tried so far, this is my favorite. The food was delicious and fairly priced. The servings were enough to get full, and the waitress was very nice and friendly. Also, I have to mention their sweet tea. Im very picky about sweet tea, its very hit or miss for me, but theirs was so good. The bread was so good and soft and warm we did t even put the butter on it. It was just a perfect experience in my books. We saw tables and lights set up outside as well under lots of shady trees, so we plan to come back in the evening and enjoy a meal outside. Kid-friendliness: We have an 11 month old who decided to get loud and chatty, but our waitress was super kind, and no one gave us a hard time.

Ordered a carry out chicken fried chicken with fried okra, texas spicy beans, and banana pudding parfait. The okra was near room temperature 92F, the parfait was a tiny cup of something that looks like cream, not banana pudding, the texas spicy beans werent spicy at all and were like eating beans in water with barely any flavor, Ive had charro beans more spicy, and lastly the chicken fried chicken, worst Ive ever had... the entire breading fell off the chicken and it was slimy. First time ordering here and it will be the last time. $30 wasted on my meal, hope this experience helps you.

I m sooo skeptical when I walk into a bbq joint because I am very picky. Although I can t speak for all the barbecue items, I can say that I LoVe absolutely everything I ordered! After ordering the peppered sausage & peppered beans as many people recommended, I also to took a chance on the coleslaw and cinnamon apples. The sausage and beans were spot on delicious. The coleslaw still tasted healthy because it was not overly dressed & the flavors were blended (thoughtfully marinated yet not over saturated). The cinnamon apples were fresh, perfectly soft, yet had texture of an apple still. I loved the softness of the sausage and no mysterious pieces. The beans were still whole yet perfectly tender. I just loved everything so much & I m just very surprised since I am so picky! Shout out to Aaron, who is a manager, bartender, server. He was very knowledgeable & patient with all of our questions. Also, the Texas tea was a great not-overly-sweet cocktail & tasted well-made, not skimped. Just right!! Not a wordsmith; just sayin it how it was!
