I went with my coworkers and we had an amazing meal at Ambar. They offer a $25 dish that gives you a little bit of everything, with plenty of options to choose from, including dessert. The service was excellent, and the architecture of the building transports you it feels like you re dining in Mexico or another exotic destination. This version enhances the flow and readability while keeping the original message intact.

My husband and I dined here and I ordered a medium cooked steak. initially I received a steak that was overcooked and burnt on the outside. Although I m not usually one to return food, I really could not eat it. However, when I returned it, Chef Fernando personally prepared a new steak for me, and it was absolutely delicious (probably one of the best onesie I ve ever had). Chef Fernando took great care of us throughout our meal, and even the manager checked in to ensure we were satisfied. I want to give a huge shoutout to Chef Fernando for his exceptional attention to detail and making sure our food was outstanding. Thank you all for your attentiveness and excellent service. We will definitely be coming back!

what a beautiful surprise! I have to say I was a bit skeptical about going, wasnt sure if it was my type of restaurant. Service was amazing! servers are very well trained, we even had a small chat with the waiter about the origins of The Plaza and how the restaurant started. Food was superb!! the flavors!! my gosh! authentic and very Mexican, fell in love with all the flavors!! we had the opportunity to speak with the Chef, amazing human being! you can tell he puts his heart and soul into each flavor and plate!! will definitely be coming back!! Parking: Because it s downtown there s a parking garage right next door to the hotel. Price may vary if there s a show/game going on. Usually between $10-15

Greetings. I was greeted by the hostess, Miranda politely and courteouly. Miranda showed me to my table. My server was Aileen. Aileen was patient, professional, and attentive. She explained items on the menu when I was unsure what it was, patiently and clearly. I ordered the Chilean Sea Bass Al Pastor. It was served on a bed of garlic-yuca puree. I ordered grilled asparagus which was served between the puree and Sea Bass. For desert I ordered the Flour less Xocoatl Cake. The Flourless cake bites had an interesting flavor. It had a spicy hint to them. Overall I enjoyed the mesl, the service, and the atmosphere. Its located inside of the Plaza Hotel.

The Ambar Restaurante located in the lobby of The Plaza Hotel in downtown El Paso is an elegant venue featuring delightful Mexican cuisine. We arrived shortly before 1 p.m. on a Saturday, and were greeted with soft, melodic piano music accompanied by soothing vocals. Our very polite server took our drink order as we waited for the arrival of another member of our party. Once she came, we began ordering. I selected the Chicken Tinga, a sandwich consisting of chipotle braised chicken, munster cheese, mezcal-grilled pineapple slaw, placed on a house baked jalapeño-cheddar telera roll. It also comes with avocado, which I declined. A side of roasted plantains topped with what was likely queso fresco. The sandwich was well-balanced, flavorful, and delicious. The cheese was practically infused with the mildly spiced chipotle, and worked perfectly with the pineapple slaw. The roll was fresh, and pleasantly absorbed some of the sauce. The plantains were also very good, with a slightly crispy exterior and a soft interior. The queso sauce blended well with the plantains sweetness, and the side plate contrasted agreeably with sharpness of the sandwich. The Ambar Restaurante left me with a strong desire to revisit the establishment for an evening meal when Im in El Paso again. Im sure Ambar will be a mainstay for years to come.

Hosted a business luncheon here recently. This restaurant is very large with indoor seating & bar. The hostess confirmed our arrival time with a call. They had a very large table for 12 ready for our party of 8. Menus were in a tablet or ebook. Unique¡ Our waiter did a fine job attending to our needs, and refills came without request. At the end of the meal, he even offered a tequila tasting. All the dishes were plated colorfully, and symmetrical. And yes - super good - YUM! Restrooms are private - one person, cotton hand towels & a very comfortable feel. Parties 6 and over will have tip added automatically. We will be back at the Ambar!

An elaborate and beautiful decor with a gentle yet inviting atmosphere. Could use a warmer hostess. And a good dusting. I was extremely grossed out by my glass. I had to have them switch 2 out our 4 back. Photo for clarity. I showed the manager, and he was grossed out as well. But that was the end of it. Made a vomit face and walked away. The food was beautifully decorated, but the flavor was a hit or miss. The duck mole was tender, yet the Chile mole was overpowering, and the potatoes get coated. The duck was juicy and an excellent choice but slightly rubbery. The Mexican cake was delicious and, by far, my favorite. I could have left the flourless cake as it had an overpowering taste of powder. Dry. The grilled artichokes we decent. And a fun twist.

Highlight of El Paso. My partner and I were on a roadtrip and decided to stop by El Paso for some drinks on Cinco de Mayo. After going to two other places and losing hope on a good experience we came across Ambar- long story short it was everything and more. Our server Allison was fantastic, their Cinco de Mayo tequila flight was next level, and their food was delicious. As an added bonus they had live mariachi band. 10/10 would come again, but only if Alison is our waitress.

My wife and I went here for a nice dinner. The atmosphere is more upscale than we tend towards and very nice, and the cocktails were absolutely phenomenal. I had a smoky old fashioned that was delicious. We also had great service from a friendly waitress who was admittedly too good at upselling more than we needed to eat. Moreover, the food didnt meet expectation for the exorbitant prices. My wife ordered a seasonal special, wood fired duck carnitas, that came as a relatively tough half duck on the bone served on a very cluttered plate, which was very challenging to eat. At a BBQ joint at a much lower price this would be more acceptable, but I think carnitas implies already shredded meat. She had to bring most of it home to eat with her hands. Anyway, a more affordable but still filling meal can be had by ordering a couple of tacos, which were quite generous. Also a fun time would be to get cocktails and appetizers to share.

He accommodated our food allergies, he was attentive to us the whole meal, and the food was perfectly cooked! The braised short rib fell apart, the tuetano cant be beat, and the desert might be the best weve ever had. Plus the drinks hit the spot! We will definitely be back!

This place is super nice to visit if you are downtown El Paso. The service was a success. The reason I say that is due to us being there for a business meeting/dinner. The servers visited frequently enough to keep drinks full but did not disturb us. The atmosphere was perfect for a dinner meeting. I went with the ribeye and the vegetables had to be the best part!!! I know this doesn t make sense but the Smokey/woody flavor profile on the vegetables was absolutely perfect. The ribeye was cooked to a crisp burn but very Medium as I requested. When visiting again I will definitely select this place as a superb place to dine! We shared three different appetizers with one being ceviche and that was amazing.

BLUF: overpriced, poor service, not appetizing. My fiancée and I visited the restaurant to celebrate her mothers 60th birthday. We notated in our reservation as well as when we arrived to check in in at the hostess stand. At no point of the night was this acknowledged by our server, nor was any kind of celebratory dessert offered. After taking our drink order, the server circled back 20 minutes later letting us know that there was a backlog at the bar. We didnt get our drinks for another 20-30 minutes. We ordered guacamole and ceviche for appetizers, and they were satisfactory. I ordered the duck in mole poblano. It was over cooked, dry, and almost impossible to pry from the bone. My fiancée has the torta ahogada, which she described as tough and nothing to write home about. My future in-laws had the roasted whole chicken which we agreed was the best of the worst. I dont recall the name of our server but she was not attentive or present throughout the night. We were unfortunately very disappointed with the overall experience left a bad taste in our mouth.

They did offer a variety of options, but nothing appealing. The Caesar dressing for the salad was disgusting, the eggs were gross, the pancakes were hard, the fries were stale, the enchiladas looked old, all the meats were overly salty, the desserts were minimal and so much more negativities. The lady who took payment pointed out the suggested tip at bottom. We brought cash instead. The food was not fresh and did not meet our expectations besides dessert table. Service was lacking with the exception of female waitress. We then asked waitress price of meal. She said $65 a person. I told her maybe we were charged for 5. Waitress went and asked so after tax a tip was automatically added. This is shady especially considering lady that took payment mentioned adding a tip. The receipt even showed suggested tipping amounts. Really after adding a tip and not asking first?!?! I am a generous tipper when great service is received. We will not be back and warn others to review their check.

Great location downtown. Prices are a bit high for El Paso in my opinion. Went on a Thursday night and it was busy, so service was slower. Chicken and mushroom enchiladas werent bad, maybe more needs more chicken than mushrooms. My buddy got the Ribeye, it was good but not $70 good, when youve had Perinis out in Buffalo Gap, TX.

I was walking Thursday afternoon downtown with my daughter and friend looking for a place to eat after our art museum visit. A gentleman working in front of the Plaza Hotel kindly suggested we try out Ambar restaurant. Glad we did! Beautiful atmosphere, accommodating waitress, and a delicious lunch special where you get a starter, an entree, & dessert. I got a salad, chicken with mashed potatoes, & chocolate cake. So delicious! Highly recommend. Great experience! Thanks for your suggestion Octavio.

This is a beautiful space in downtown El Paso across from the Plaza Theatre. The ambiance is really great but I am sad to say the service is really bad. We (4 of us) came in an hour before a show to have a beverage and ended up leaving after 30 minutes when we were still not served. I hope they can get their service fixed because it does seem like a nice place to spend time before or after a show or event.

At the end of the meal we were brought the bill and the waitress said happy birthday to our guest. No piece of cake with a candle to celebrate. Very disappointing.

This restaurant was recommended by a couple of our bar managers who are from El Paso so we had high expectations. Mostly recommended for their tequila selection. We made reservations and were impressed by the ambiance and decor. Our server was very friendly and had great knowledge of their house cocktails and tequila selection. We were delighted until we received our dinner. We ordered NY strips that were VERY expensive (I believe $55.00 per). We ordered medium rare. We received the entrees and could barely cut into the steaks. They were so over-cooked, gristly and fatty. We managed to get about 8 good bites and that was it. Very disappointing experience. Extremely over-priced for the quality. Hopefully the owners can help the kitchen reach a higher level of quality. I have read through all of the reviews and this seems to be a common theme of complaints.

Lovely restaurant in El Paso. Easy to find parking near the hotel. I ve been 3 times when I visit. I believe their menu changes, but not sure how often. The food is delicious, and fresh. I am vegetarian and they have several options & servers are happy to ask the chef if they can offer something off menu. The actual location is perfect, right across the plaza theater and a few steps away from the plaza de Los lagartos. Decor is great inside as well. Overall a great place if you re looking for something a little more upscale and authentic Mexican food.

We loved Ambar and come here often. Yesterday was our Anniversary and were going to celebrate and go to a show at the Plaza. It took the staff at reception a while to decide where we were going to sit. Once seated, it took the wait staff 20 minutes to show up. We ordered the simplest food as we had to make it to the Plaza by 8 pm. She left abruptly before we could order drinks. 20 minutes later, no food and no one came to ask for our drink order. We left 5 minutes before the show started without having anyone come by to check on us. We used to give Ambar a 5 star rating. We are so disappointed that the service has declined so much. We were there for 55 minutes without service. Were we invisible? If I could give a 0, I would.

Amber is a beautifully designed and elegant restaurant. The atmosphere is very enjoyable and perfect for a date. 1 - My husband made a dinner reservation for date night. When we arrived, they claimed they had no reservation. He immediately showed them the text message confirmation, and the restaurant was not overly busy, but we were still instructed to take a seat and wait. (Not the high-end experience you expect) 2 - The second issue I had was that we ordered 2 appetizers and 1 did not arrive until after we completed our whole meal. At $17.00 for an appetizer, it should have arrived prior to our meal, and /or we should not have been charged for the artichoke food item we couldnt enjoy as we had already completed our meal service.

The food was delicious, though a bit pricey. The Torta Ahogada was a unique and excellent variation of the original, and the Duck with Mole sauce was outstanding. The initial interaction with the host was a bit rude, but they quickly seated us and our server was friendly and attentive. There were a few minor issues like an old tortilla chip on the floor and a brief wait for drinks, but they were understandable. The ambiance was perfect for a special occasion, and Ill definitely be coming back. Thanks,

So I am staying in the hotel and this is downstairs, its a great vibe without a real vibe because the personalities of the employees are not very upbeat and their lack of staff makes it feel like your waiting in 5 oclock traffic having to pee and there is no bathroom within a 100 miles... the bartender was overwhelmed by the 6 guest at the bar and the lack of flat bottled water apparently because she spent more time on the registers then it felt like doing anything else. I find it hard to believe they didnt have more flat bottled water in the back. The house merlot is good though . I tried breakfast yesterday and it brought me back enough to try the short ribs tonight, sadly the experience made me almost lose sight of the main course. Absolutely DELICIOUS!

Celebrated my birthday at Ambar with my family and good friends from Tucson, fellow USC Alums, Oscar Parra and his wife, Eloisa Vega. We were very fortunate to be joined by Eloisas sister, Concha, a nun who was given time to be away from her order in Italy in order to attend her sisters funeral San Diego. Ambar provided a nostalgic atmosphere for our reunion, especially since Oscar and I grew-up in El Paso. It was a great location for dinner and conversation. We didnt have to compete with the background music. After dinner we went on a self-guided tour to the terrace of the historic Plaza Hotel where Ambar is located. We also walked across the street to visit the famous Paso del Norte Hotel and its terrace where people used to gather in 1920 to watch the Mexican Revolution along the Rio Grande/Rio Bravo.

Had a very very strange experience here. My wife, daughter, and I walked in on a Thursday afternoon and asked what the wait time was. The receptionist had a bit of a strange reaction and asked if we could give her a few minutes, no problem. We asked to see a menu and sat down. Another receptionist came by and they got together and whispered to one another. After a few minutes the second receptionist walked over to us and informed us that they would not have any availability for the rest of the evening; essentially letting us know that we would not be able to dine there. We said thank you and walked out, but something just seemed off. After a few minutes I called them and asked what their wait time was and lo and behold I was told that they had a 45 min to 1 hour wait. So to recap, in person we were told that there was nothing available for the rest of the evening, when I called I was told there was a 45min to 1 hour wait. Very strange.

I was not very impressed with my visit to Ámbar. The cocktail menu was lacking in variety. The service was also a bit slow and careless. It took 15 minutes to get a waiters attention to just get a menu at the bar, and the waiter did not pay much attention to us, our server never brought our menu. I have enjoyed Ámbar in the past, but this time it did not meet my expectations. There are other restaurants nearby that I prefer more. I hope they can improve their quality and value in the future.

This was our first time going to Ambar, and we were very excited. They had a Fathers Day Brunch buffet! When we arrived, even though we had a reservation we had to wait 15 mins to be seated (not a big deal) once seated we waited another 15 mins for our waitress to come to our table. This was a trend for the rest of our Brunch, we could never find our server and had to ask other waiters for assistance. The food was good, but the bad service definitely took away from our experience. We will not be returning.
