About the Company

rating: 4.8

Aaron and George's Film Cafe opened in Downtown El Paso on September 10, 2022! This business was built as a homage to our grandfathers Aaron Schwartz and George Haims, both of whom had restaurants in El Paso, Texas and New York City. We love movies, popcorn and a good cup of coffee. We hope you like these things too!

For a place that claims to advocate for social justice, my black girlfriend and I felt rather uncomfortable when the owner went on pro-police rants: denouncing the younger generation s activism when we were the only young customers in the store. Don t let their safe-space signs, anarchy cookies, or progressive decor fool you; the presence feels just as regressive and out of touch as the southern businesses that bootlick the status quo. Edit: just take a look at his condescending response below as thats a perfect representation of the uncomfortable sarcasm you ll receive by going.

I stopped in today with a couple of girlfriends on a whim and had a wonderful experience! The albondigas soup was delicious as were the sandwiches. We sampled the café de olla and it was also delicious! The prices were reasonable. I loved the atmosphere here and the customer service was phenomenal! Will definitely be back again soon.

Hidden gem in the heart of downtown El Paso with simple, delicious food and attentive, personal service. The cafe de olla and egg cream are absolute musts. Everything here was amazing, but more than anything, their customer service is above and beyond.

I finally went to this cafe and Im glad I did. I liked it. The lemonade and brownies were tasty. It was affordable. The staff try very hard to make you happy and comfortable. I went to see La Negrada, a film by and about Black Mexicans, which was excellent. I wish they showed more obscure independent and foreign films like this one, since theres no movie theater in El Paso specializing in such movies. I wish the screen was higher so you could read the subtitles from the back of the room (I had to move 15 minutes into the movie).

An absolutely incredible space for both film and people. A safe space for people of all types as well as an open minded hub for free thought and enlightened conversation. Rebecca and Douglas, the owners, are so thoughtful and dedicated to the customer experience. They genuinely care about their customers and the ambiance of the space. It is a home for film lovers, artists, and an ally to marginalized communities as well. Come for the food and the film, but stay for the coffee and the vibes. You wont be disappointed if youre looking for a comfortable, friendly environment that cares about their customers AND the community.

So, my friend who is always getting me to try new places recommend this place. Walking distance from our worksite in the downtown area made this an easy choice. Walking in just before the lunch crowd, we were greeted by the owner with the paper demitasse of cafe de olla. Im enthusiastic about flavors so this was a great opener for me. The RHPS movie poster( the one with Franky smoking a cigarette) in a colourful frame dominating the smaller posters for local movies on the east wall is balanced by the monster screen on the west. A selection of movie style boxed candies made a nice nod to the grand tradition of the theaters. Im thinking this is going to be a terrific place to spend an occasional evening or two contemplating the value of entertainment and vicariously experienced life versus the direct personal experiences of the human condition. The iced café dé olla, full serving was really enjoyable. Served cold really made the spices pop, for me. BTW: coffee drinks are served with an Anarchy Cookie. (Getting me in touch with my inner street punk, maybe) My tuna on toasted rye was a winner. Good quantity. With the owners enthusiasm and continued quality food and genuine service, I think Arron & Georges Film cafe has a future as a bright spot in a rebuilding downtown area. Bravó ! Vegetarian options: My friend, a strict vegan found options not just sufficient but enjoyable within his preference.

We happened upon this adorable cafe on our way back to our hotel on a Saturday night. We were warmly greeted by one of the owners Douglas (and saw his partner Becky) who invited us to try their delicious coffee. I think the secret spice was cinnamon, but there may have been other goodies in there too. The food is all baked/made fresh by Becky and looked awesome. They feature a movie at 7 pm Friday and Saturday nights with a band playing beforehand. There are also poetry nights for those of you who love to write or hear poetry. We will be back!

A truly wonderful place to visit! Amazing food and drinks!! And the nicest, most hospitable people! We went for the film screening where the atmosphere and service was better than we ever could have expected! The Café de olla is unbeatable, definitely not to be missed! We just had to come back the next morning and try the breakfast which was Devine too!! We spent the whole time wishing there was something like this closer to us! Honestly would come back to El Paso just to visit this place again!

We visited for the first time today. We had grilled cheese (highly recommended). It was a perfect blend of sweet, spicy, and salty. For dessert, we had a root beer float and an egg cream. The vibe was chill, and owner Douglas visited with us and detailed the schedule of films, poetry reading, and various performers. We will definitely be back. If you want to treat yourself to a unique experience and delicious food, drop by soon.
