Overall this is a solid place. There is great presentation. I was looking forward to the fried alligator and was kinda disappointed. I had inconsistent sizes so many of the little pieces were burnt. I also had the fish and waffles. The fish was outstanding but the waffles were a bit too hard to enjoy. I d like to give them another visit maybe it s was an off day because the wait time was very long also.

I decided on this place because of the great reviews, but was deeply disappointed. The service was good, but it didn t make up for the food. I ordered chicken and caramel infused waffles and it was regular chicken strips and Eggo waffles with caramel sauce drizzled on them. Definitely not worth the $22.

Oh, what an awesome experience! Mrs Lovelace, chef, greeted us at the door. Lou Jr added to the event, what a great young man. Then Big Lou came in and topped off the evening. We so enjoyed the fried ribs and bourbon shrimp. And can not forget the praline cheese cake. What a great family business....we will be back.

My family ate here for the first time, yesterday. Our servers were Jay and Luke, they were so nice and helpful. Jay was always close by, if we needed anything. She was so sweet. She chatted with our special needs daughter and was so kind to her. The world needs more people like you Jay! The food was really good. My son really enjoyed his chicken and waffles (infused with caramel in the center yum!). My daughter had the chicken strip dinner, that arrived on a huge pile of homemade potato chips with a side salad. She loved it. I ordered the catfish dinner. The Cajun seasoning was just perfect on the fish fillets. They were so good, I completely forgot all about my diet.i could have eaten a double helping of the fish! I also received homemade potato chips, which were seasoned well and just scrumptious! The side salad is excellent. It s not a piece of limp iceberg lettuce they served us a variety of lettuces and greens with some beautiful, ripe tomatoes. My husband had the jambalaya and loved it. The atmosphere was terrific. Soft jazz playing in the background and nice cool air conditioning.we would have loved to hear the live music, but were there, a little too early. If you and your family don t try Pelican restaurant, you will really be missing out. We can t wait to go back. This is the best Cajun food we have eaten in a long time!

I had some friends in town and we stumbled across this place. We did not have a reservation but they got us a seat and were happy to serve us. I cannot compliment the wait staff enough! They were attentive, conversational, and patient while we went through the menu. The food was AMAZING! I m not sure what sauce they marinated the crab claws in but it needs to be sold in the store. If you are ever confused in what to get get one of the platters . I m satisfied and will be returning.

Tried this place for the first time yesterday for some takeout. My wife and I ordered 2 seafood platters, an order of Cajun chicken spring rolls, a cup of gumbo and 2 sweet teas. Came out to right at $100. The restaurant was very clean with a relaxing and comfortable atmosphere. Jazz was playing throughout the restaurant. Luke the host was very welcoming with a very warm and sincere personality. The food was made to order but the wait ended up being close to 45 mins. That was a little too long for my liking. The seafood platter consisted of 3 nice size pcs of catfish, 4 nice size shrimp, 1 crabcake and a BUNCH of homemade fried potato chips and a small salad with cucumbers. With so many potato chips on the plate, it gave the illusion that there was more seafood on the plate than there actually was. The seafood platter costed $29.99. I would have appreciated a little more seafood and less potato chips for that price. The catfish was fried perfectly but it was quite bland. The batter had a little seasoning but not enough to help out the actual fish underneath. The shrimp were good, no complaints on them. The crabcake lacked flavor as well but it was quite spicy overall. The Cajun chicken spring rolls did not taste like there was any Cajun seasoning in them. They tasted like a regular spring roll from a Chinese restaurant. They were a little overpriced in my opinion. They were $12.95 for 4 spring rolls. The gumbo was a little too watery for my liking. And it had a tomato based flavor to it, which I absolutely hate. Overall, I gave this restaurant a high score for the atmosphere, cleanliness of the restaurant and exceptional customer service. I do believe they need a larger cook staff to facilitate their orders better and decrease long wait times, they need to work on the flavor profiles of the food a little more and maybe adjust the pricing a little. Parking: Restaurant is located in a lot with other businesses. Ample space by the restaurant as well as surrounding the restaurant.

Lou was great and felt like he was our uncle. It was such a nice and inviting atmosphere, and all of the appetizers he recommended, and the fried fish and waffles were delicious! The Étouffée wasnt as thick as what Im accustomed to, but after all the other delicious items, I was full enough to be satisfied anyway. We ended the night with Beignets, even though we were stuffed, we had to make room for those, and Im certainly glad we did! I highly recommend visiting!

If zero stars was an option I would post. I cant speak to if food is good or bad because the place wasnt even open although we made reservations two weeks ago. I saw this place on an episode of Ready To Love and was curious to try it. Google reviews were very good and the menu looked great. We werent able to make reservations for Valentines Day but made them for Saturday the 24th. Get to the parking lot and establishment is closed with lights out. Called the main number and only got an automated greeting message. Very disappointing...we made online reservations on the fly with Long Horn Steakhouse in Grand Prairie which seated us in an hour on a very busy night. Shout out to Long Horn Steakhouse. I called Pelican House this morning out curiosity and a gentleman answered...I asked if they were still open and explained we had reservations the night before. He said they didnt have reservations scheduled for last night. I thought the reservations were with Open Table but on second look at my calendar it was a Google reservation. However I was really looking forward to trying this place and supporting black owned establishment. Very disappointing...

Goodness gracious! Where do I begin? This place was hands down, THE best Cajun restaurant I ve ever been to (coming from a foodie). This place served phenomenal food AND customer service! The ambiance was nice and I am so proud to say that they are black owned! IYKYK! We tried the Cajun spring rolls A-MAZING! The fried seafood platter and the chicken and waffles were delicious! They were even happy to accommodate my child s food allergies! The presentation of all of the food was very nice-just like the photos online (which says a lot)! I am rating The Pelican House as person from New Orleans. The fried ribs were the only saving grace of the entire order and I tried a lot to give this place a fair chance. I also had the Bourbon grilled shrimp platter. Dont order it! The shrimp are not grilled! There was no flavor or character especially since this place seems to give a New Orleans theme in menu. Magnolia Crawfish rice was one I was excited to try since I have not had any since leaving home and I still have not. The rice was so gummy and again lacked all flavor. No salt or seasoning. Not edible. The Marinated crab claws the worst crabs I have ever tasted EVER! Served in dishwasher. Non edible. Way too expensive for 1 edible meal. I feel scammed.

What a wonderful restaurant! My friend and I visited this fine establishment today and didnt realize we were in for a treat! We were greeted by the owner Lou, who gave a masterclass in customer service. The FOOD, OMG THE FOOD! If you are in town and are blessed enough to visit this fine establishment, you will not be disappointed. The food was flavorful, like we enjoy here in the south. Went on a Sunday, so the options were limited. The food was lacking season, the redbeans were the only thing that had season, and it was overly seasoned. The options of food didnt mix. Its supposed to be a New Orleans themed restaurant, but it gave old folks home. That seemed to be the only people enjoying the food. I love fish, but even that wasnt cooked properly, and they only passed it out one piece every 15-20 minutes. I would highly NOT recommend this spot to anyone. Its not worth the price youll spend. You can go to Glorias and get better food and drinks.

I took my father + family out here Saturday night for his 70th! He s from NOLA and was dying for something authentic and close to home. Lou served us, connected with my father being from Louisiana himself, and showed us the best time. All with the warmest candor. When the food came out, we didn t even think to take pictures because it all looked so amazing, and tasted just the same. My father was incredibly impressed and I d done my research skimming reviews on all the authentic Cajun food, and I hit gold when I found The Pelican House. Different experience. My 70th birthday and we had a great time. To me, it felt like home. When we arrived, Lou, the owner, greeted us. Lou sat down at our table and went over the menu and we talked about home. We ordered appetizers which were very delicious. I had the blackened catfish, and recommend that dish. We all had different dishes and they were all great. Food was cooked to order and hot when served. After dinner, we all shared bread pudding and praline cheesecake, very delicious. I recommend The Pelican House to anyone who loves Cajun food.

I took my best friend here for her birthday. Right off the bat, the atmosphere and service was great. My sister and I went today for the Sunday brunch buffet. This was our first time visiting and we were greeted with a smile by the owner, Lewis as soon as we walked in. He has such a great personality and he touched every table. The staff were friendly and the food was well seasoned; no need for salt and pepper on these tables at all. I love beignets, so I got an order to go and they were soooo good. The ambience is nice there was smooth jazz music playing in the background and the Mardi Gras colors gives the establishment that New Orleans feel. It would also be a nice place for a date night. We will definitely be back to try the other menu items.

I was very disappointed. My fiancé and I saw this place on Instagram. The advertisement and the photos is what made us decide to go and this place check out. We had the buffet for $ 35 each. The server gave me two small catfish nuggets, but the advertisement shows catfish fillets. Two drumettes, and the red beans and rice was too salty. The pasta was over cooked. First I ll say this place is reservation only. We didn t know that and we walked in without one. Yet and still they seated us and gave us a royal experience! Everything was top tier literally. This place had the highlights of a perfect, wanted and needed experience. I ll be back for sure. Already making bday plans that includes this restaurant. The food and people here were wonderful. The owner was lovely to talk to. We got the alligator bites and turkey necks to start off with. Both were delicious, and turkey necks were perfect. It was my first time having catfish and waffles. The combo caught me off because of how well it pairs together. The breading for the fish was top notch and doesnt depend on sauce to be good, which is what you want to look for when you consider good catfish. My husband and I tried their House Drinks. They were good. We had their Turkey necks and Alligator for Appetizers both seasoned and delicious. I tried the catfish with waffles. Y all, when I say The Pelican House has the best beignets ever, believe me! They are flaky, soft, and sweet on the outside and melt in your mouth y all- Better than Cafe Du Monde! I recommend the peach tea too. I ve been looking for the way gumbo is SUPPOSE to be and I found it here. The taste was like grandma made it! Mr. Louis greeted us with such a warm and pleasant personality. The food was soooo delicious from the appetizers to dessert. So, for appetizers we enjoyed the seasoned baked turkey necks, fried boudin balls, stuffed shrimp, and bacon wrapped shrimp. My daughters had the chicken and waffles entree, I had the seafood platter, and my husband had the fried catfish platter with red beans & rice and jambalaya. Then we tried the egg soup, omg. The worst place to eat. We arrived for Sunday brunch & received Sunday mush. The menu was not really brunch food, everything had been sitting for a while, the food was not hot, you could not see the food until they put it in your plate. My daughter asked to see the grits & the lady said no, I can t let you see it due to Covid. Umm, Covid is over but once we saw it I can see why you didnt want to show the food. We had a total of 10 people & all of our food would be equivalent to 1 plate. We only got the food to see it but didn t eat it once we got it. We were there 5min tops. Very disappointing for a black business, not to mention its 30 per person for brunch. The kids were disappointed & so were my husband & I. I normally don t make post but this is a must. Don t sleep on this place! I m originally from New Orleans, and so when I moved to Dallas(Duncanville) I tried a few places that said they had that down home flavor, but never quite came close. I lived literally 8 minutes from The Pelican House and never tried because I feared it would not live up to the hype. Well, I finally decided to go there for Sunday brunch and I loved everything that I tried. It was like I was back home in New Orleans. The food, the atmosphere, staff, and owner was amazing. Very down home and made you feel comfortable. It was like I was chatting with an old Friend. I went home and told my mom about the place and she wanted to have a Po-Boy!! Last night I took her to eat there, and boy did she rave about the food. She said they even had the Leidenheimer Bread(This you can only get in New Orleans).The owner flies it in. It was not only the food, but the owner Louis is absolutely amazing. He sat down and chatted with us and my mother was thrilled. I can tell you he really knows service and has made a friend in us. We will be visiting on a monthly basis, so my Mom can get her poboy fix and red beans(simply divine) If you are in Dallas, no matter where this place is a must try!!!!

I just looked for a good Cajun restaurant while I was out in Duncanville and the Pelican House came up. I was lucky because this place is so popular its by reservation only. But they were so nice and willing to have me stay and lavish in their food. I was truly grateful after because the food was absolutely fantastic. I had the pasta bread bowl, catfish, salad, the house drink (D-lishous) and praline pecan cheesecake! All of it had so much down home flavor and it was exactly what I was looking for. Came there to celebrate my fathers 62nd birthday. Was told that we only had 1.5 hrs. for our reservation time even with the 20+ ppl we had with us. When we got there, we waited 15mins before we were able to get in line for food(this matters since were on a time schedule). He DID tell us the menu changes every week but for an ALL YOU CAN EAT BRUNCH, it was definitely not much to choose from. When I asked the owner where the breakfast food was at, he said we have bacon, ham, sausage, and biscuits. Also when I talked with him over the phone I was told there would be soooo much food to choose from during the brunch like chicken and waffles(that wasnt there of course). There wasnt even eggs! The staff served us and gave us a tablespoon size of everything. The only reason why I went back to get seconds was about I didnt get enough the 1st serving. They charged you for every drink because it was canned drinks and that cost $3.50+ for EVERY single one. Drinks should have been included with the brunch price which was $38.61 for every single person. They were even trying to charge my mother for wanting to use their dessert plates and utensils for the cake. My cousin son took a doughnut as they were about to leave and they told him he couldnt take the doughnut out the venue. All in all, I was very disappointed in the restaurant. I would not recommend to do brunch here. IT IS NOT WORTH THE MONEY SPENT. The ambiance was non-existent; no live music or anything that we were told would be there! The thing I can say pleasant was the staff! The nicely told us no to things!

I loved my whole experience! I m from Mississippi so I recognize, and appreciate a real meal with great homemade taste! I ordered the chicken egg rolls for my appetizer (they were the best I ve ever tasted), and the I ordered the blackened catfish for the entree. Both were cooked fresh and seasoned to perfection!
