I took my father here for the first time today for lunch for his birthday. We waited an extremely long time for everything. However, it was made very clear to us they were having an unexpectedly busy lunch rush and were short staffed all the way around. We placed a togo order as I had my 11 month old with me and he was getting overstimulated and antsy. The manager, I assume, came over after we had paid and were just waiting saying she was taking care of our whole ticket and this was not the experience they wanted for their customers. We were not upset and were patiently waiting and this came as a total surprise and was very much appreciated! My father and I ended up having a picnic across the street on the courthouse lawn. My father LOVED the unsweetened tea and the BLTA. I ordered the pimento cheese sandwich, which was grainy and underwhelming and the Tuscan minestrone soup of the say which was phenomenal. I will absolutely return because of the service we received and the menu has other options for me to try! I was trying something new anyway! Thank you for today, you made my fathers birthday very special.

I had crepe italiano, my friend had the American breakfast. The crepe s edges were burned (black) they don t even try to make it look like a crepe and also they throw what I think it was breakfast potatoes on top reheated, dry my friend s dish had the same horrible potatos, cold bacon and a toss. It was gross just to see it. A homeless person keeps coming in and out to use the restroom and the smell that left behind is really disgusting. The coffee, worse coffee I ve ever had in Denton. This place is only open because of the mimosa bar which has all the fruits chopped who knows since when, uncovered, few flies around this is the worse restaurant I ve been since i moved to Denton 2 years ago. Never going back

Just had an incredible time here! The service was fantastic, the food was equally great maybe even better, and the vibes were perfect for a Sunday brunch type meal! I had a delicious French omelette, and onion soup that will definitely be a repeat order! The other shared bites were delicious and the daily deviled eggs had a chimichuri base that was a great take on a classic bite! Got to talk with Suzanna the owner for a second and you can tell the pride she has in her store from just a few minutes of conversation!! No pics cuz the food disappeared too fast! See y all again real soon!

I have gone back and forth on this place. At one point, this was our absolute favorite place on Denton Square. We really loved their egg salad and beer bread which have both gone away. Muffins seemed to have disappeared the last few trips. Tea flavors arent always that special. Love the muffins when they have them. Avoid the croissants, they arent special. BLTA was disappointing this time around, uninspiring. My GF said the chicken salad barely had a dollop of chicken salad. I did enjoy the Rocket the Beets but my GF feels the drop off over the years is noticible. Despite only two other tables, the wait for our food was interminably slow if not down right unacceptable. Service has been hot and cold over the years. The redecorating is a refreshing update from the overly eclectically mismatched tables and chairs and thoroughly worn out booth seating. As they say, all good things must come to an end. As long as its us, I doubt we return hoping to get something that will never return.

We were really looking forward to the First Friday tour if Italy menu on May 3, but when we got to the restaurant it was closed for a private event. PROs: Old but quaint place, decor is chic. Hostess and customer service is excellent. Food is good quality and attn to detail was noticeable. Mini muffins were served as appetizers but not sure if they were GF and I failed to ask. CONs: No designated parking for the restaurant, its a hassle to find one up close during busy hours. We ordered: Healthy Hippie, American Breakfast omelet, and a decaf latte. Vanessa, waitress at the time, was in training and did just fine.

The service was outstanding, really extraordinarily friendly and fast. My vegan meal was excellent and I especially appreciate that the server took pains to make sure that the potatoes were vegan. My husband enjoyed the Monte Cristo sandwich. All in all, a terrific addition to Dentons square. Vegetarian options: Vegetarian and vegan options are clearly labeled and supported.

Complimentary scones were served upon seating - nice! But the food was not good: my salad bowl was way heavy on dressing, light on greens, had off-putting purplish brown soggy noodles and obvious cucumber left over from yesterday, and came complete with a side of plastic bag detritus IN the salad. My dining partner had the crepes Parisienne - off color, homogenous white glop inside a crepe with a 3/4 bit of bone included. Perhaps neither dish was what the chef intended, but I so embarrassed that I chose Chestnut Tree to entertain my aunt. We sat outside, because it was too cold and noisy inside - other diners complained about the noise as they left, also. The bright spot was our server, Rachel - polite, encouraging, with a smile that made the sun come out!

I had a meet-up with a friend to catch up. I haven t had a meal in Denton other than the random food truck near a brewery. You have the option of breakfast or brunch items. I decided on the PSL French toast. I love pumpkin items..and the cranberry syrup made it a win. I don t like really sweet breakfast bread so the whipped butter and powdered sugar were plenty for me. I did try the cranberry syrup. It didn t add or subtract to French toast and I didn t get a lot so I settled for the bit of regular syrup to finish it. The waitstaff was very helpful and continued to check on us. The place was busy until they closed. Nice enough as I was catching up with a friend they didn t kick us out either. We chatted and a couple of tables were still finishing their meals. It s on the square so hopefully you snag a parking spot to walk right up. I loved the exposed brick and laid-back atmosphere to enjoy your food. Vegetarian options: I have friends that are vegan or vegetarian so there are some options for vegetarians that are doable.

Previously, we ate here on what was the re-opening day after their renovations a couple months ago, and everything was excellent: the food, the service, the vibe, etc. This time however, things were a bit less so. We came for brunch and ordered the Monte Cristo sandwich and the breakfast sandwich, with a side of bacon. We were very surprised to see that the side of bacon (which cost $4) consisted of just two very small, sad looking pieces. Definitely recommend not ordering those. The Monte Cristo was great, if a bit too packed. The breakfast sandwich however was a little disappointing: the Texas toast was thin and barely toasted (so perhaps try ordering it on a croissant or bagel instead) and the sausage patties seemed pre-cooked to me, though I cant say for certain of course. If I had to order it again, I would try the ham instead. The one thing we both were looking forward to were the home potatoes, which had been cooked with this really tasty seasoning the last time we were here. This time, unfortunately, the seasoning wasnt there. Our server was pleasant and very personable. However, when it came time to pay the check we had to flag down another server to take our card after waiting for a while. Everything still tasted *good* but it was just missing something that had been present just a couple months prior. Perhaps a new cook in the kitchen? I cant say for certain. However, I definitely want to see this local business succeed because the Denton square needs as many great local restaurants as it can get! Maybe next time were up there we will come back again and try a new menu item

We love to come here for brunch, mainly, and are so glad to see them come back. This is a great bistro that is as close to a full on French restaurant that we have in town, and they have a wide variety to their menu. But we went to one of their uncorked events at night, where they did a French theme. Oh. Man. We shared escargot, leeks in bechamel and gruyere, and a delicious charcuterie from 10:1, a local meat and cheese shop. My wife had mussels in broth, and our friend and I had the braised short rib on a bed of pommes aligot, and it was so good my eyes rolled up into the back of my head. I am also a bit picky but my wonderful wife has opened me up to trying new things over the years. And I hate tomatoes. So when I tell you that the ratatouille was one of my favorite things, it is because it was so good I cant describe it. I want more. I need more. I am coming back. Truth be told? Go try it out for yourself. The wait staff was polite and attentive, and this place is deserving of your patronage. Easily one of the most decadent and fulfilling meals I have had in Denton. Vegetarian options: Eat the ratatouille. Kid-friendliness: They were so kind to my son, who had already eaten, and we had no issues.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Chestnut Tree restaurant after its renovation, and I must say, it was an absolute delight. From the moment I walked through the door, I was captivated by the new ambiance and stunning decor. Without a doubt, this place deserves a glowing 5-star review! The restaurants remodeling has truly transformed the Chestnut Tree into a beautiful haven. The interior design is tastefully done, striking a perfect balance between modern elegance and cozy charm. The attention to detail is remarkable, with stylish lighting, comfortable seating, and a warm color palette that creates an inviting atmosphere. The ambiance alone makes it worth visiting! What sets the Chestnut Tree apart is their fantastic happy hour, available Wednesday through Friday. The combination of delicious food and superb wine options is simply outstanding. The menu is carefully curated with an array of delectable dishes that cater to all palates. Each bite was a burst of flavors, leaving me craving more. The chefs expertise is evident in every dish, and the presentation is nothing short of artistry. The wine selection at the Chestnut Tree is truly impressive. The staff is knowledgeable and passionate about their offerings, readily providing recommendations to perfectly complement your meal. Whether youre a wine connoisseur or simply enjoy a good glass of vino, you wont be disappointed. The happy hour deals make it even more enticing to explore and savor their exceptional wine list. Aside from the remarkable food and wine, the service at the Chestnut Tree was top-notch. The staff was friendly, attentive, and well-versed in the menu. They went above and beyond to ensure a memorable dining experience. The combination of impeccable service, delectable cuisine, and a cozy atmosphere made for an unforgettable evening. In conclusion, the Chestnut Tree restaurant deserves all the accolades for its recent remodeling. With its breathtaking ambiance, delightful happy hour offerings, and remarkable attention to detail, this place is a true gem. Whether youre looking for a romantic dinner or a place to unwind after a long day, the Chestnut Tree will exceed your expectations. I wholeheartedly recommend it and cant wait to return!

What an amazing place! Lunch is always good and fast. I love the fact they added a coffee bar, I go here for coffee compared to others on the square (faster service and just as good or better quality). The happy hour they do on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays is amazing. Tapas that rotate weekly (minus some standards) and good and yet affordable wine! One of the best places for wine on the square, especially for quality and price. The remodel is on point and looks amazing. Staff is friendly and engaging as long as you want it. They do rotate some wines due to different themes they will put on, as an example, the tapa menu this week is French so they bring in French wines to enjoy, last week was Spanish. Due yourself a favor and visit!

On the mums day: Went for the plated mothers day event. It was expensive ($50-$70 a person). The food was bad. I mean, no taste, consistency bad. Service not good. That part I can forgive a bit because it was jam packed. Food came out at drastically different times, so we were waiting for 1 hour for a simple app and another table was done with dessert. On the food: I sent back all out desserts because they were quite flavorless. Grits were both watery and lumpy. The apps seem like they were intended to be warm, but were cold to the touch. Short ribs were a pike of stewed meat perhaps. This was after about 2 hours of a preset meal service. On the Drink: there was a limited wine list, however there was no understanding of what wines went with what courses. Some staff were aware if there was beer or not, and the beers available were dreadful. On the positive: the renovations look great. On a slow day sitting at the new bar seems delightful. Overall: I WANT to root for chestnut tree. I WANT a local bistro with good product for the price. I see this as a failure of upper management not properly training staff and preparing for such a large rush, but simultaniously charging $70 per person. I WANT there to be a change , and want to go back, but cannot if its the same product for the same pricepoint.

Thanks for your response! As a long-time resident of Denton, I want nothing more than to see our locals succeed. I would be happy to take you up on your offer for another shot a your Bistro. As much as I have enjoyed my meals there in the past, I understand that re-openings can be a challenge. Ill be out of town this coming week but will happily correspond as you get well. Larry Just had lunch at the Chestnut Tree. Im sorry to say this since I have loved this place in the past, but todays meal was hugely disappointing. I got the Mediterranean Salad with chicken. 2 things: 1) They use processed meat for their chicken - no kidding. I even asked our waitress and she said she would ck but never came back with an answer (see photo) and 2) Probably 5 - 10% of the spinach was bad - you know, black and slimy. The waitress apologized and said she hoped I would come back to give them another try but that is doubtful. Hate to give a bad review to a local restaurant but... maybe theyll improve their practices.

The Chestnut Tree is a delightful Denton establishment. I love going there with friends for Uncorked Happy Hours, where the menu changes weekly. I also love the annual holiday teas that allow us to make memories as a family. Im super excited about the renovations taking place right now. Although The Nut might look different in the future, I know it will still be the same wonderful place I like to frequent.

The quality of the food for the price here is absolutely unparalleled. My husband took me to the final Uncorked of the year and that meal was on par with the best dinners we had all year. We ordered four plates, dessert, and a bottle of wine (which was MORE than enough food) and the bill was well under $100 before tip. The service was absolutely perfect. She (I wish I could remember her name!) was attentive and informative, but not at all stuffy. The chef was an absolute delight and it was fascinating to hear about her experiences and how they informed her menu. We cant wait for the renovations to be complete so we can enjoy another evening here!

When you first walk in the aesthetics are incredibly cozy and warm. One thing I appreciate greatly is this businesses partnership with The Mug. It supports a local coffee shop inside of its own business allowing The Chestnut Tree to excel (which is does) at its food whilst someone else provides a solid cup of coffee. My servers have always been extremely attentive and the food impeccable and delicious. 10/10 would recommend.

Needless to say the couple got their coffees and food before me and my kids could even talk to a server. We sat there for 20 minutes and were not acknowledged at all!! A family was sat behind us and got their order taken right as soon as they sat. We just got up and left. Horrible service.

Bad service, high prices. One couple waiting to be seated before us. No other customers in the restaurant. They were seated. We stood and waited to be seated, with all the empty tables everywhere. The staff just stood and talked to each other. We are finally seated. After sitting for at least 10 minutes, with staff walking back and forth, we were served water and told that menus were printing. About 15 minutes later we were told menus were not printed yet. We had already found menus online a long time ago. Staff seemed very put out to have to wait on you . Will never eat there again.

I loved going here till I got food poisoned? Maybe its my fault. I always got the same thing. The stuffed french toast with eggs. It was busy Sunday morning, the guy with the mullet was serving ( tbh I really dont like his service, hes very nonchalant, hella forgetful, however I will say I love it when the bald female is there! Shes so sweet!). Any how my food came cold. I didnt want to bother plus it was already a long wait. I really think the waiter forgot about me. Felt sleeping after eating my meal. I thought it strange cuz I didnt have any meat. I woke up from my nap, had instant diarrhea. I tried drinking some water, threw up. It was back and forth diarrhea and throwing up for the night. Couldnt sleep because I felt aches all over my body. I couldnt keep water down. Had a fever for the next two days. Missed a whole of work and didnt get paid. Lesson of the day dont eat somewhere where they are even gonna let your food get cold like that. If I am paying over $10 my food better not be cold and THEN YOU GOT ME SICK. I had miss work this week smh. I love those french toast but never again. At least not with that male server with the messed up mullet and cowboy boots, his service is trash.

Coffee shop and eatery in one. (Technically has separate coffee shop, the Mug, inside the Bistro - can order coffee to go at the coffee bar (with a bit of cafe-style indoor seating right near door) or be seated at table for sit down meal experience (with both drink menu and food menu). Food menu includes breakfast/brunch foods as well as lunch foods (mostly salads, soup and sandwiches). Nice variety of options with very reasonable prices. Cute interior with quotes across the walls. Comfortable place to enjoy a cup of coffee or a meal alone or with a small group. There are booths along walls that seat 4-6 people and stand alone tables in the middle. During slow hours between meal rushes, a good place for enjoying a cup of tea or coffee while reading or studying.

This is a wonderful, quant bistro with delicious food; I especially enjoy the complimentary muffins! They have an excellent menu selection - my favorite meal is the Denver omelette with breakfast potatoes. The quiche Lorraine and caprese panini are just as delicious. And if you are a hot tea drinker, they have a wonderful selection of loose leaf teas to choose from. My favorite is the lavender Earl Grey! Mmmmmm! This bistro is absolutely delightful. We tried an orange peel latte that literally brought a big smile to our faces after sipping it. The menu had enough great items on it that choosing something was hard. I went with the eggs Benedict with beef tips and avocado (I think they called it a Southwest Benedict) and it was phenomenal; the poached eggs were perfect and the chipotle sauce was a perfect complement. The stuffed french toast was amazing as well and was just as light and fluffy as you could want. Overall it was a charming place to have a delightful brunch and we will absolutely be visiting again.

The person at the front desk was not very knowledgeable nor was the person we called on the phone before arriving at the restaurant. They did have a lot vegetarian items and they were willing to make a sandwich off menu. I had to ask for a separate kids menu and separate tea/drink menu. I am trying to reduce carbs so I would normally relish eating the roll that had moistened with goodness from the meats and pickle. But I did good and saved the carbs for the house chips Wifey had Cobb salad. We were both quite satisfied as most folks are there. Wednesday after 1pm and the place was packed. We also love bringing our kids here for family brunch also! The decor and ambiance is always super cute and fun! The food of course is and has always been delicious! The food menu has changed over the years. But my new favorite on their menu is their Salmon Crepes! I highly recommend the Salmon Crepes they are delicious! They used to have more of a tea selection. But they make up for it with their delicious champagne and mimosas! Their muffins have changed over the years also but they are still delicious! The customer service has always been and still is amazing! Every time my husband and I have been here recently the waiters and waitresses are always so warm and friendly!
