Always a great time at our chamber happy hours. Last night, at McRaes American Bistro & Cocktails. Mike McRae himself, Sam, Jenny and Frank took great care of us. And the food!?!? Tenderloin Crostini, Southern Deviled Eggs, Texas Twinkies, and the Texas Jalapeño Pimiento Cheese!?!?! So good. Mike and the McRaes team are outstanding chamber members, and we sure do appreciate their support. A special thank you to Moniqa of Raes Hope for the door prize. #mcraes #eastdallaschamber #gedcc #eatlocal #raeshope Greater East Dallas Chamber of Commerce

OK McRae s DONE! We ve tried (much like BarNone) but it is the same Emperor s New Clothes situation. The management thinks they got IT! The food is awful; I went with a friend tonight and tried to find something I could recommend. Landed on deviled eggs (always good) and the Tuscan Chicken Sandwich. More like Trashcan chicken sandwich; inedible. Happy hour?!? $2 off mediocre overpriced wine and your tiny cocktails. No food on happy hour (probably a God send!) We were told you are reworking the menu and The Other wine (only thing worth going for) is out. Bottom line $89 plus tip for 4 mediocre glasses of wine on Happy hour, 6 deviled eggs half s ($2 a piece) and an inedible chicken sandwich. DONE! East Dallas has waaayyyy more to offer!

Always good food but the kitchen is really slow. Hard to catch my attention on something like that but it was noticeable on a Wednesday night. Muffaletta is really good with proper crunchy giardiniera. Deviled eggs from here are some of the best, wish they put a pickle on all of them. Muffaletta can be boxed and eaten later. Keeps well in fridge.

Last night was our first visit to McCraes and it was almost perfect ! The atmosphere was amazing and service was 5 star. We had reservations at 7 and were seated immediately. We ordered the pimento and cheese for an appetizer, the seafood pasta and chicken and capers with crème brûlée for dessert. All were very tasty, the shrimp a little overcooked but not too bad. We shared a bottle of wine and both had an after dinner drink the bill came to $175. The only thing that was off putting was how crowded the banquet is along the wall. By the end of dinner, I could not wait to leave. Almost claustrophobic. The table directly behind us had more room but the table was leaning so bad that the ladies silverware kept sliding off she literally had to hold onto her drink the entire meal. A restaurant of this caliber, should care more about the comfort of their patrons.

The filet was on point! Sorry to be contrary to a previous review. The deviled eggs were great! My wife had the Halibut and it was phenomenal. Cocktails were decent. However I opt d for a bourbon on the rocks after the smoked old fashioned. The Crème Brûlée was very light and tasty. Overall the meal was great and the staff was courteous, perhaps a little tardy in checking up on us, sat through the entire meal without having our water freshened or offered another drink. I will definitely come back again. Parking: It s a bit of a haul coming from behind Walgreens, but we found a spot, glad it wasn t raining though.

/////McRaes reached out to address this issue, and we are appreciative.///// We have eaten at McRaes before, and reviewed them positively under the spouses account. But rather than edit that one, were posting my review as this was a ROUGH experience, and we feel management needs to know. We have a pretty good idea that by the end of Valentines night theyll know, but this was not a positive experience for us. The Valentines special was a Prix Fixe meal, but things started poorly when the appetizers arrived. The deviled eggs were only one egg, halved, unlike the three in the normal appetizer portion. The crostini were slightly stale, although the topping was nice. The lobster bisque soup was the first real issue. Between our table and the two flanking us, 5 bisques were ordered. Only two were finished, with the other three sent back for overly salted flavour. And no one was brought a spoon. We all had to ask for spoons. For soup. Then, well, the main course. There were only four options. We ordered the ravioli and the surf and turf. It was almost an hour in our seats when the server brought the ravioli and ... halibut. So, back went the food and we waited another ten minutes for the server to bring back surf and turf and ... halibut. *sigh* When the food was finally correct the surf and turf, having toured the floor and been looked over by managers was room temperature, both the steak and lobster tail were cold. They were taken away and we presume microwaved. The menu mentions Fresno pepper on a few things, but no spices are mentioned with the lobster, yet ours was spicy, enough to burn the wifes lips. Cross contamination? Kitchen implements handling the wrong foods? We know management were aware, we watched the server take the plates to them and look over at us in discussion. No manager ever dropped by. Not even to apologise for the delay. We should mention here we were offered a cocktail as a comp, but we didnt want a drink, we had one each and that was all we wanted. And on that note, the gin and tonic I ordered was apparently Bombay Sapphire, but that was, frankly, the most plain, watery G&T Ive had since college. There was no bite to the tonic, no fizz to it, and even after finishing, I never tasted the gin. Bombay Sapphire? Done a disservice. And having offered us a $13 cocktail as compensation, and we declined, neither of the other drinks were comped. So, having booked a 5.15 table, arrived at 5.05 and expected to leave shortly after 6, we had to rush the server to bring our desserts to go and the cheque and scraped out right at 7. We want McRaes to be the place to go for special meals. But we dont expect to ever go back for a New Year, or Thanksgiving or Valentines meal. This was absolutely, positively not worth the time, frustration and effort. Two meals, two mostly dissatisfied customers (all three tables in our cluster were very, very patient and polite) and $240 later. Probably our last visit to McRaes.

$3.00 up-charge for an Old Fashioned with house whiskey. Bartender says it was for the bitters. An Old Fashioned uses three dashes of bitters at the most. She said every place charges this. A block away Goodfriend charges $9 for an Old Fashioned and no up-charge for bitters. A 4 oz bottle of Bitters cost $13 and there are approximately 150 dashes in a bottle. Each bottle will make approximately 50 cocktails. They are profiting $137 for each bottle. The place has a great atmosphere but it s not worth the cost. Needless to say. I won t be back.

Both came with a small side of green beans and grits. Everything we had was extremely overcooked and Luke warm as if it had been sitting in the window too long. He served i think forgot about us after taking our order cause we rarely saw her even when we needed another cocktail. The place has potential so I ll be back in hopes they work out the kinks but no food should ever be cold or overcooked but especially fish. Not one thing we ate was cooked properly.

Tonight we had the deviled eggs and tenderloin crostini, the apple salad and tomatoe bisque and the filet and asparagus. All were amazing. We sat at the bar and absolutely loved our server. Dessert was flourless chocolate cake and bourbon pecan pie. The pie could have been better if slightly warmed. And both could have used a very small portion of vanilla ice cream....but taste was great as they were for both. Outstanding experience. As we were leaving the owner came in and introduced himself to us and asked how everything was.

We really enjoyed McRaes, a bit of an anomaly this far North up Garland Ave. The issue you come across with an upscale place like this is that you better be exactly on point with everything. With a few exceptions, McRaes is. Wife and I enjoyed our cocktails. A Blackberry 76 and an East side were really fresh tasting, with no apparent alcohol, but they were certainly strong. A sign of great mixology. The deviled eggs pleased the wife, who loves them. And her quail were juicy, very difficult to do when such a small bird is grilled. The green beans, gouda grits and mashed potatoes with proper dark gravy all excelled. The filet, however, was a bit of a disappointment. With a poor cut (several veins of light gristle) it was rare (to the point of not even being cooked, a rare+ in most establishments) and the seared exterior was poor. While flavoured well, there was little savoury flavour to the outer edges that had only a few bites of that iron skillet flavour we all want. And it was dry. There was nothing of the cooking oil or butter, and apparently this is an upcharge, to receive it au poivre. So plan on getting the $41 filet, rather than the $36 if you opt for it. The decor and the setting are definitively Americana, and with owner Mr. McRaes experience, this is intentional. There is little space, and even only 1/5 full on a Saturday eve (the rush yet to arrive) it was rather loud. The let down of the filet (I have made far better at home in an iron skillet with butter, salt and pepper, a major disappointment) is an aberrance. We love everything else about the food, and were looking forward to brunch. I am particularly excited about the Bloody Mary bar. And you may find the filet to be exactly what you wanted. There are no desserts, though. This, in itself is a crime worthy of a lost star. But in combination with the filet and the total lack of draught beer (cmon, a Blood and Honey on tap and youre a real top quality bar) its a definite loss. Dinner for two, with one appetiser, two entrees, two cocktails and a side dish: $117.

Ive lost count of the times Ive dined at this place, and let me tell you, its the kind of spot that never fails to impress. On my recent visit, I kicked things off with the Southern Deviled Eggs a classic that Ive come to love. The farm-fresh eggs, sweet pickle relish, and that hint of tabasco always hit the spot. The Granny Smith Salad is another favorite, and Ive added the grilled chicken more times than I can remember. Consistency is key, and they nail it every time. Im no stranger to the Your Pie Your Way option either. This time, it was the Filet Mignon that stole the show, just like it did on my previous visits. The roasted garlic mashed potatoes and beef gravy? A match made in heaven. And lets not forget brunch the Lakewood Latke and Croque Madame are go-tos for a reason. What keeps me coming back, aside from the exceptional food, is the staff. They recognize me now, and it feels like catching up with friends. Knowledgeable, attentive, and always ready with a solid recommendation. And, of course, the drinks. The mixologists have a knack for creating the perfect companion to every dish. Its a different experience every time, and I love it. In a nutshell, this place is a culinary haven. Ive been here more times than I can count, and its yet to disappoint. Whether its a casual dinner or a lazy brunch, its become my go-to. If you havent been yet, youre missing out. Trust me, youll keep coming back for more. Dietary restrictions: What sets this place apart is their commitment to understanding and addressing dietary restrictions with grace. Its clear they take the time to communicate with the kitchen staff to provide safe and satisfying alternatives. For someone like me, that level of attention is priceless. Overall, if you have dietary restrictions, this restaurant is a haven. The staffs understanding, coupled with the kitchens adaptability, ensures a dining experience that is not only accommodating but thoroughly enjoyable. Kudos to them for making every visit a stress-free and delicious affair

Had a great time. Atmosphere is amazing with decent prices. I want to get the filet the next time. We got the mashed potatoes and the cheese fries. Happy to see the lovely Gary working there! He is always a delight.

I just wanted to add to my original review. We have returned several times and each time we have loved the experience. The food has been fantastic. The atmosphere is casual and friendly. The waitstaff is attentive without being intrusive. I am thrilled to have found our new favorite place so close to home! Awesome neighborhood bar and restaurant! Parking: Even on Friday night, not difficult to park behind the building.

We tried McRae s for appetizers and cocktails and we are in love. We will be back many times. Awesome atmosphere, service, and the food is beyond anything in Dallas. I m glad it in near our home, but I would drive far to enjoy McRea s, and so should you. You will not be disappointed. Oh and the music playlist is great. See you there soon.

Just went tonight with some friends and enjoyed our experience! We enjoyed all of our food and drinks, there was not one thing we did not like. The service was also phenomenal. There was a minor mistake on what we ordered and it was fixed immediately. We even got to meet and chat with the owner tonight for a bit. The only unfortunate thing was they did not have any dessert, but they have a few dessert cocktails. They did share that they were working on a few dessert options. Overall, I would recommend this place to anyone in the neighborhood. Can t wait to come back!

Beautiful new place for dining and drinks in East Dallas. The pimento cheese with seasoned-oil baked crackers are incredible. Same goes for the deviled eggs. The Margherita pizza was delicious. The cocktails were on point, as well. I found the staff to be engaging, friendly and knowledgeable. Rock solid option on the East side. Btw, parking is a little tight out front. There is quite a bit more parking in the back. Parking: The parking is limited out front. The parking out back is way more spacious.

Great place! Definitely worth checking out. Food was great. I had the pork chop and my wife had the Atlantic salmon. We also had the Texas Twinkies and Granny Smith salad. Both were good and all the food was fresh. Service was great and very attentive. They had only been open about a week so there were some new restaurant areas of opportunities but overall it was a great spot. Seating was a little tight but it didn t cause any issues for us! We will definitely be back.

What a great new place for our neighborhood. We walked in, seeing the new sign, on friends & family night before they were open to the public. They welcomed us like family, though! I was struck by the classy and eclectic décor. So cute! The servers were excellent, friendly and made great recommendations. Needless to say we had great drinks, a delicious meal and a fantastic time! We will definitely be back. Parking: More parking available around back.
