I made a reservation for my birthday and the hostess were very nice. The food was also good, the main complaint i had was with the waitress. I went with a party of 5 and our waitressDaniela was very rude and would completely disregard our table, she never checked up on us and when it came time for deserts, which was for a celebration, she was very rude and came and practically threw the cake on our table. She made the whole experience very uncomfortable for me and my friends and made my birthday experience at the restaurant very unpleasant. It felt like they were trying to rush us out and paid us no mind the whole time. Everyone else in the restaurant seemed to be having a pleasant experience but our waitress made ours very uncomfortable. Still I d recommend because it was a nice restaurant with interesting menu. Just bad service from the waitress, the hostesses were very polite even over the phone. Don t have high expectations for your service.

The only thing was that we were a party of 11 people celebrating 2 birthdays and they couldnt give us a table so we could be seated all together, instead of that we were separated and couldnt interact all. I dont think putting 2 tables together or figuring it out a good solution for us was that much to ask.

I attended this establishment for a birthday dinner, and unfortunately, it was the worst dining experience I ve ever had. From the moment we arrived, the experience was marred by poor hospitality. When I politely inquired about the status of our table, the hostess became visibly upset and began yelling at me from behind the host stand. Given that I m pregnant and uncomfortable standing for long periods, I tried to find seating while we waited, which was nearly impossible. After about 15 minutes, I returned to ask for an update, as I had been told the table would be ready soon. Instead of a polite response, the hostess yelled again and stormed off. What followed was even more distressing. The General Manager, Carlos, approached me in an aggressive manner, rather than seeking to understand the situation. Instead of asking for details about what had transpired with the hostess, he rudely confronted me, asking if I was the girl who had a problem with his staff. His approach was not only disrespectful but also intimidating, especially considering I m 5 2 and pregnant. It was an extremely uncomfortable and traumatizing experience, made worse by his refusal to resolve the situation or even acknowledge my side of the story. While the restaurant itself is beautifully designed and the servers were polite, the poor hospitality at the front of house completely ruined my experience. I believe this establishment could benefit from more diversity and a more professional hospitality team. This experience was so upsetting that I plan to take this issue as far up as possible. I hope that no one else has to endure such treatment when simply trying to enjoy a meal.

MAR Y SOL Cocina Latina was a delightful experience! The restaurant is beautifully decorated, we enjoyed the lively atmosphere and music, plus the service was excellent; from the moment we were greeted through the entire dining experience. As for the food, we loved the unique array of Latin flavors and choices. Two of our favorites to start the evening were the delicious Argentinian Beef Empanadas and the Pulpo al Carbon. We will definitely be back again to enjoy with others.

Hate to write this because I was so excited to try this place out. We arrived with reservations only to have to good 30 mins before being sat outside, as they said it was all they had available. Service was terrible and i understand being new and busy however it was 10 mins before even greeted. Another 15 just for waters and then another 15 to actually get the drinks we finally got to order. Drinks were reasonably priced but very small and sweet . I got the drink that lit up with the coil, pretty cute. The food however was not good, lacked flavor and over cooked. Wood fired steak was the only thing that was really good.

I have tried a variety of dishes at this restaurant and each one has been absolutely delicious. On my initial visit, I savored sea bass, king crab causa, patatas bravas, and yellowtail ceviche. During my second visit, I indulged in the tomahawk steak with bone marrow and wild mushrooms. If you have not yet dined at this establishment, I highly recommend making a reservation for your next meal. The staff is exceptional. FYI tomahawks was not on the menu so call before you go.

I came to this new restaurant because i saw the viral drink on fire and was so excited to try it. When i got to the restaurant, i found out it was mango and asked if the cup could be substituted into any other drink because im severely allergic to mango. The manager then came to the table and told me they werent able to do that because the cups are expensive and it would be too much work for them. I told them i would buy however much it was to substitute to, i just wanted the presentation. He was not friendly at all and said he wouldnt do it for me because he doesnt everyone around to see him switch it out. He was extremely rude and not accommodating. I was so excited to come here but i will not be coming back or recommending this place to anyone. Also, our reservation was at 9 and we didnt get sat until 9:45, for a restaurant that is booked all month it was extremely over packed in the bar area our host had to push people through to get to our table. I am extremely disappointed with the service we received. Our reservation was for 9 PM, but we werent seated until 9:30 PM, and it was outside. After being seated, it took about 10-12 minutes for our server to come to the table and another 10-12 minutes just to get our water glasses filled. Everything took an incredibly long time to come out. For context, we were seated at 9:30 PM and didnt leave until 12 AM! The food was not great, the drinks were just okay, and the music was way too loud. The only positive comment I can give is that the decor is beautiful.

Mar Y Sol resurrects the long-dormant Abacus space into a beautiful tropical oasis, brimming with energy and excitement. The central bar anchors the room and turns out some solid Latin cocktails. Servers seem a little overwhelmed, but are helpful and bring a positive, fun vibe. Unfortunately, the food could use a bit of work. Nearly everything we ate looked great, but didn t deliver. The plantain chips and habanero salsa were an excellent beginning, but the flavor profiles on the rest that followed could benefit from some significant tweaking. This is probably a great spot to grab a cocktail and a snack at the bar, but I d probably pass on a meal until they can get the menu figured out.

I visited Mar y Sol for brunch. My tab was $139 after tax. I then realized I was charged $143 and was told that it was due to CC processing fees. In my experience if I m going to be charged CC processing fees I m usually told upfront. Granite $4 is not what I m concerned about. My concern is that small businesses can get away with charging those fees. But a fairly large establishment such as Mar y Sol cannot, let alone not letting the consumer know. I can only imagine how much is being profited from CC fees alone. I tried to reach out to Mar y Sol and have flat out gotten ignored. They know what they re doing is wrong and full of greed. Beware of this scam.

The girls and I wanted to try Mar Y Sol past Saturday. We walked in at 4pm right when they open hoping they would be able to seat us at some point whenever a table cleared up. We had not issues waiting but the waitress told us that all the tables are full and they are taken by reservation. We asked if someone doesn t show can we have a table for 3 and she insisted there was no waitlist she could add us too which was a bummer. Since we were there so early we did end up at the bar which was open seating. We were there from 4-7:30. Service in the bar was really good. AB served us and was very attentive. The bar was so happening. Drinks were so good and different and food was good. I think I would try to come back but with a reservation next time. Although we didn t love that they don t accept walkins and there isn t a wait list. We did love our experience at the bar. I did notice a lot of people crowded the bar later in the night as there was limited space.

The Good: The place is beautiful with great ambiance, good lighting, a large bar area, a variety of drinks, and an outdoor area. The Bad: The food quality doesnt meet expectations and is very pricey. Most of the dishes we ordered were mediocre. The menu is great, but they try to make it original and innovative, which results in flavors that dont match traditional Latin cuisine. The service was extremely slow and disorganized, despite having 3-4 supervisors around. It felt very crowded, and the excuse seemed to be overcapacity and lack of experience. The prices are too high for what you get. The music is extremely loud, making it hard to converse, and it ranges from electronic to Latin. In summary, its the kind of place you would only go to for the vibe, people-watching, ambiance, and a couple of drinks.

My wife is Colombian and we ve had all kinds of Latin food, this was perhaps the worst unfortunately. The octopus was tough and quite spicy. I was pleasantly surprised by this place! Especially only being open for a month, they definitely have a good thing going so far! The restaurant really exceeds Tulum Vibes! The decor and restaurant its self is absolutely stunning. We ordered a lightly fried shrimp appetizer and it was fresh and delicious! The drink/margarita selection was impressive and unique. Presentation was 10/10. We had seabass as our main course and seabass can be a little iffy depending on how its prepared and the freshness but it was also delicious! Joseph helped us at the bar and we will definitely be back. The only thing I was a little unsure of was the small chips and salsa in the beginning. It was a small plate with three different kinds of chips They were kind of stale to me and the salsa they serve you is in a small petri dish almost and is a couple teaspoons of salsa. Over all, still a great experience!

Came here on a Sunday with a party of 12 for a birthday party on 8/11. We had a reservation for 4pm and it took them 20mins to seat us. The waiters were very disorganized, ordered really easy meals like rice, taco, fish and steak and it took them 1hrs to bring any food out. Drinks took on average 7mins to come out. Ceviche and fried rice were the first to come out for some people and not others. The red snapper was not fresh and such a small portion. The tacos were $3 worth for $28. My friend who had the ceviche said it was nice but a very small portion for $28. Overall beautiful place with slow service, small portions, expensive average tasting food. This place is new and like a lot of restaurants in this side of Dallas, prices are very high, focused on esthetics and lacking in adequate service. Please do better

If I could give this place negative 5 starts I would. Quite literally one of the most horrifying dining experiences. Let s start off with the customer experience. We called to make a reservation and were told they only had the patio. I asked how the temperature was in the patio and was told it was warm but that there was AC. Warm is doable, it was HOT, simply not circumstances any manager should allow anyone to sit outside in. We were sweating and our party of 8 was suffering. Like we were visibly sweating, we re talking sweat dripping down our faces, red faces, begging for ice and water constantly, and audibly complaining. We told about 4/5 people that we were hot, the waitress was so nice and they tried their best to make it tolerable for us outside. But it just wasn t cutting it. They were leaving the door open that gave us an occasional refresher, to which the manager said to close it. A party member asked for the managers at the end of the meal. They hadn t come out to check on us a single time nor try to figure out if they could accommodate us inside somehow. When we had gotten to the restaurant we did tell the hostess that if there was any possibility to switch us, that it would be greatly appreciated. Our party member stated to the managers this has been an atrocious dining experience and you all as managers never came to check on us . To which one of the managers replied I m sorry you had an atrocious experience and said they would do what we wanted them to do but that nothing would help. Him commenting that back was nothing but mockery. About 10 minutes later they came back out to tell us that they had set-up the private room and had desserts ready for us. So let me be clear you had A WHOLE EMPTY PRIVATE DINING ROOM THAT YOU COULD HAVE ACCOMMODATED FOR 8 PEOPLE SINCE WE GOT THERE? While I understand not doing it for a party of 2/4, for a party of 8 it s ridiculous. Now the food. It was not good. Bad tortillas, dry chicken, and semi-decent meat. And it s expensive. And yes, I m Mexican, I know good latin food. This place is just not it. If you claim to like the vibes, you only like them because of the decor. The staff are evidently forced to wear make-up, it s 2024, please. While this place may be trending, do not go here. The management is not it and the food is not worth it. Do not support a business like this one.

The place is beautiful, and the customer service was fantastic. We had a couple of cocktails, and they were delicious. However, we weren t as lucky with our food selection. We ordered the octopus as an appetizer, and while it had good flavor, it lacked tenderness. We also ordered the wood-grilled fish and potatoes, but both were disappointing. I was expecting a life-changing meal, but my selections were forgettable. Hopefully, I ll have a different experience next time when trying something else.

Had a great waiter Anthony and even though they are new and the gluten free menu differed than the one online he checked on menus items for allergens and took time to check in and warn me when I ordered outside if my allergens ( my spouse enjoyed a dessert since he doesn t have the restrictions) good food and enjoyable service. Will definitely be back and hopefully be able to enjoy more of the menu next time.

10/10 experience. Everyone was so welcoming when we walked in. Andrew M was our waiter. He was amazing. He explained all the dishes to us and shared his favorite. We got the caesar salad, Lechon & Shrimp Chaufa (my favorite), Beef Short Rib Tacos, & the Shrimp Petardo. We also tried the house margaritas. The head bartender came over to offer us other drink called La Diabla and the Cantarito. Both of which were delicious. My favorite was the Cantarito. The ambiance of the restaurant is gorgeous. We will definitely be back!

Tonight was my first time dining here. I made a reservation for my wife and I for a date night and boy did we really liked it . The valet service greeted you and made you feel welcome . The entrance gives you a chance to take some pictures and have some fun with your loved ones . The decor on the inside was really nice . We really didn t expect it . You were transported to South America . The food is diverse , and delicious . The service was one of my best parts of the visit . Carlos, the manager greeted us personally and was welcoming. Our server, Karla went above and beyond to make our night a success . We had a little issue with our choice of food but she really guided us with the best choice for us. Overall, Mar Y Sol is a fun place, the ambiance is welcoming . Great job guys .

To start the cocktails were not well mixed . The flavors had separated by the time they got to the table. The chips and salsa was good but impossible to scoop the salsa. Very nice and chic establishment, with a ton of Latin flair. Staff and decor was beautiful. We ate dinner on a Friday night and found the music was really loud that we could barely hear each other over dinner. I get it, its for ambiance but maybe later not at 7pm. The booth was comfortable but table a bit long so it was hard to connect with so I sat on the side. On to the food : We got some appetizers which came out quickly, the yellow tail ceviche was ok, nothing special, the fishbowl made it harder to scoop it out and looked unsightly after. I ordered the Picana steak which came moments after I got the guac, so didnt get time to dig into that. The steak was raw/rare so sent it back, it came back medium rare sent back again. I ordered medium as recommended by the server. By the third go around the outside was overdone. Oh well. They comped it anyway. The best item was actually the roasted hen of the wood mushrooms side... Delicious. Would love to see those on a bruscheta! Will definitely come back when they have worked out the growing pains. They have an outdoor terrace which looks like a blast to eat out at. There was a dj and a bongo player showed up too. Pretty cool.

Beautiful restaurant, great scenery. However, food is mediocre, presentation of drinks and entrees are nice, but drinks are small, and food was OK. Expected more for the price point. Biggest complaint is the tables for two, are crammed so close together that it feels like youre dining with strangers at your table.

Down a one-way street, youll find a modest parking lot with a complimentary valet attendant stationed in the corner. Its easy to miss the entrance if youre not paying attention. As you turn the corner from the parking lot, youre immediately struck by a Narnia-like entrance that makes you question if youve left McKinney Avenue. Before you can second guess yourself, the host staff is there to greet you and confirm your reservations (which are recommended, at least through the rest of 2024). Stepping inside, youll feel your blood pressure drop as youre surrounded by soothing earth and neutral pastel colors. It feels as though the tree of life itself has enveloped you, creating a world of its own. Once seated, youre welcomed with complimentary fried banana plantains and the standard chips and salsa though these are particularly tasty and beautifully presented. Now, for the main event: the drinks and the food! The drinks are visually appealing, though I found the caipirinha a bit lacking. However, the Diabla drink was flavorful, albeit a bit sweet. We also tried a tiki-style drink with a milk-based popsicle inside; it was unique, tasting like a sorbet with a hint of booze. Not bad, but next time, I might opt for wine to pair with my meal. For appetizers, the Argentinian-inspired empanadas were delicious, filled with smoky brisket flavors that provided a bold and unique taste. The duck flautas were also flavorful, complemented by a nice sauce and garnished with queso fresco. For the main entrees: The Brazilian rump roast (picanha) was just okay, but that might be because we ordered it well done instead of medium. The standout in the meat category was the pork lechón, a Caribbean-style dish served with potato purée and garnished with fava beans. Its very filling and might be considered shareable. Due to fish allergies at our table, I didnt try any seafood, but considering the restaurants beach-themed concept, its likely worth exploring. Ill be sure to update my review once I try the seafood. For dessert, we opted for the 6 leches cake. It was delicious, though surprisingly, parts of it were a bit dry, considering this type of cake should be moist with the amount of condensed milk and other dairy concoctions used. Other things to note: There are purse hooks at the bar for the ladies, coat and purse hook stands at each table, and the restroom is to your immediate left when entering the restaurant. Theres also a patio, and I hope to see brunch offered in the future, along with their weekend evening live entertainment.

It s about time someone opened something like this in Dallas. So many Dallasites and Texans go to the Yucatán and experience the Latin restaurants there. This brings a nice version to your backyard. It gives you the upbeat energy that you find at Rosa Negra and other Tulum restaurants but without some of the unwanted characteristics and clientele. The restaurant was aesthetically finally tuned, giving you an earthy and upscale features. Very fun atmosphere but it s a little loud so don t go there if you re trying to have a nice quiet time with your girl. It s definitely a place to go have fun and let loose a little bit. I had the ribeye with chimichurri. It was fantastic. Perfectly cooked. My wife had the mushroom tacos. She loved them. We also ordered the octopus as a starter. Very large compared to other restaurants for a very good price. The drinks were fantastic, and very well priced. You didn t feel like you were getting gouged anywhere on the menu. Overall, the experiences was fantastic. Can t wait to go back.
