I paid $3,500 for a redetermination hearing because my friends bond was denied during an ICE hold. I guess anyone who is actually familiar with this process would know that hiring an attorney is basically useless. The judge barely even glanced at the documentation we provided that was all her assets and support on why she should stay and when the judge asked if there were any accidents with the arrest Mr. Meza said he was unsure but he didnt think so you would think a lawyer that you pay a lot of money to would know or at least have a more firm answer. Regardless, although it was a very lengthy run around talk, Mr. Meza was very informative on the process and happily accepted my money. I spoke with him once and my detained friend spoke with him once too. In between, all the questions and answers were from Daniela his paralegal. She was great, always available and answered my questions when Mr. Meza didnt have any time for me after accepting my money. During the initial intake with whom I will call the receptionist because I was texting with someone the whole time, after I kept telling them I needed to speak with the detainee and SHE would the lawyer since she would eventually pay me back, I was basically insulted and was told I shouldnt be price shopping for the cheapest lawyer, only for the best which was apparently him. As any good researcher knows, you find the best 3 options and then choose. Not once did I tell them they were the most expensive. Either way, i paid the price, gathered all the documents, and all they had to do was submit them and he had to attend a 10 minute WEBEX hearing. Didnt feel worth the bill but it is what it is. If your loved one is going through the same thing, I wouldnt even bother hiring a lawyer. Hope this helps someone.
