Lots of leftovers to accompany a poor guest experience. Do not recommend. Don t bother. Gumbo was bland. The French toast too dense. Omelette too stuffed with green peppers and bathed in bechamel. Crab cake tasted like a mushy risotto with wilted spinach quickly undoing any crispiness. Lots of leftovers. To boot though, the service. Wow. The service. Some of the worst I have ever had in a restaurant. Waited 15-20 minutes for water while sitting outside in 90° heat. I had to request service to kick off drinks and apps after about 25 minutes while she When we ran out of water, I had to request more from another staff member who proceded to be super obnoxious while rolling her eyes telling me I wasn t bothering her. They finally warmed up to us after realizing we were better patrons than they were waiting for staff. Good Bloody Mary and cocktails. Everything was heavier than it needed to be. Everything was a salt bomb.

My wife loves this place. I like it. The building is marvelous. I feel like it is overpriced. The food is good. She says great. The name of the restaurant doesnt make sense to me. Ive eaten plenty of mudbugs, and I dont think of an upscale restaurant when I hear that; I think of little shack with a boiling pot and some sweaty hands on deck. However, they have a friendly staff and some of the dishes Ive had are worth the money. I like to think they shot for creole prices and advertise cajun. Chef Paul would never have called his place Mudbugs. I get the fact they are trying some fusion, etc. Still really cool. Break your wallet out. Plenty of parking. Very busy, so plan to have a little wait. You have to go there at least once.

I came here often with coworkers, and on Saturday came with my wife and kids. The experience this time was really disappointing. My wife wanted to try alligator because she never had it before, so we ordered a dish with gator as the main. The food came and there was no gator at all. We asked our waitress and she was clueless to how the dish should be cooked, so we ended up asking the bartender/maybe manager. He very quickly said they ran out of gator so they substituted it with andouille sausage but it cost the same. Before I could even respond, he walked off. To me, the decision to substitute a protein should always be made by the customer. At the very least, the customer should be made aware of it and given the opportunity to either okay it or order something else. In addition, there was no apology, no asking if there is anything he can do to make it right. We left feeling upset and disappointed.

I ordered to go and set enough time so that it would be hot when I got there. I arrived 15 minutes early and the bag was already there. I commented that I hoped it wasnt cold, but not only was it cold, it was overcooked. This was an expensive steak plus a salad. The salad was shredded lettuce with dressing (tasteless) a sprinkle of cheese and a few processed croutons. It came with Brocollini and au gratin potatoes. Two servings of potatoes. Not sure why. ANYHOW I would really like my money back. This was definitely NOT a 50.00 dinner. It totally bugged me that it was ready 20 minutes early when obviously if you set the time you are trying to make sure it will be hot when you pick it up and then get home.

: I had a great talk with Sergio, the manager. They dealt with the situation and had a discussion with their staff about customer relations. We went back again this last week. We got our favorite waiter - Riley - who treated us like gold. The food was excellent as ever. Glad to see that one visit was a fluke. Thanks, Sergio! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I hate to say, but our last visit was awful. MudBugs is a go-to for us and we sat at the bar, expecting the usual excellent service and food. The bartender was also the food server for the bar, which is typical for most restaurants with that arrangement. We were ignored for 15 minutes. When the bartender came over to us, she was rude, enough so that we ended up leaving without ordering. I did not rate the food this time, because we did not eat there. I wrote to MudBugs about this, but never received a reply. We will go back, but darn sure will not eat at the bar again.

I had the daily dozen last Saturday which was delicious! It was seafood stuffed shells. It had a seafood and cheese stuffing with crab, crawfish, shrimp, ricotta, parmesan, & gouda; herbs and spinach, with a spicy marinara sauce and a pumpkin seed pesto. Our server Zoe, was delightful, and very knowledgeable about the menu items. She highly recommended the daily dozen and a coping mechanism to wash it all down. Thanks Zoe! Ill be back for sure. We tried almost everything on the menu and food was cooked to perfection. I love the atmosphere and the staff is amazing and so friendly. They have their own signature Bloody Mary mix that is to die for, put it in any beer or vodka. It s way better than any Bloody Mary mix you have ever had. If you are traveling through Buda it s a must stop to enjoy some good food and great atmosphere.

I live and work in Buda. I always promote and share my experiences with local businesses. This is an excellent place to meet up with friends and family. Whenever someone from our corporate team are in town for business I recommend MudBugs as much as I can. The only complaint I have from our most recent visit is that we called in our reservation and when we went to check in, they lost our reservation. We had to wait for over an hour to be seated. We had a friend visiting from out of state she had never been to Buda and we bragged up the restaurant. It was a little embarrassing to have to wait. But..the management made sure we were comfortable and had some of our meal covered. So a big thank you to the management for doing that. I highly recommend this restaurant for the total experience of fine dining in our town.

He knew the wine list and drinks inside and out. The food was on point and fantastic. My cajun husband has very high standards and this place was right on. Really appreciated Evans knowledge and kindess. Be sure to ask to sit in his section when you go. Big Mud Bugs fans! Kid-friendliness: There were lots of families with kids. Plenty of space and areas for large family groups.

If you are looking for a excellent dining experience, Mud bugs delivers. The food is divine, the staff is friendly and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. The calamari melted in my mouth. The best I have ever had hands down. The shrimp delight was a three in one. Bacon, shrimp and crab. My mouth didn t know what to do with itself. My favorite was the shrimp and grits. Grilled shrimp surrounding Gouda grits. Yum! And that surrounded by the most delightful moat of cheese sauce loaded with spinach, mushrooms, sun dried tomatoes and grilled onions. Absolutely divine!!! It was a dining experience, not a meal. If you enjoy trying flavors and textures, please stop by Mud bugs in Buda and let your tastebuds sing.

We were very pleased with our dining experience at MudBugs! We dined indoors, bc it looked like it was going to rain. They DO have an outdoor patio that had a nice ambience, so bonus points for that. Indoors has a nice rustic feel. Everything was very clean, and it is well ventilated. We ordered crab cakes for an appetizer. They were delicious. Tender on the inside, crispy on the outside, and a perfect bell pepper/onion to crab ratio! We also ordered calamari and enjoyed it. It was fresh and well battered. Hubs ordered his favorite of Shrimp and Grits. He loved that he could get the shrimp blackened. He enjoyed it, and is happy that we can get one of his favorite foods so close to home. Finally, Creme Brulee for dessert. Wow, it was so good. I think that is the quickest we have ever finished dessert. Service was attentive. We were pleased and will be back.

We live locally and normally love this place. Tonight the service was TERRIBLE. The waitress was abrupt and rude and appeared to have no training as to waitstaff etiquette. She interrupted us no less than 7 times during our meal. The food was not up to previous expectations. We shared three appetizers and each had a meal: it was bad. Food was cold and improperly seasoned. The previous GM is rumored to have left and if that is the case and this is what we can expect than we will no longer eat here. We loved it before and recommended people come out this way just to eat here. No longer the case.

We went 9/23 and dinner was fantastic Charlie and Mike are amazing bar tenders We both had the fillets and they were cooked too perfection! I cant say enough about the coping mechanism and the Cadillac margarita that my husband loves! So exciting to see a local place focused on customer service and high quality food! 11-29-23 Always the best place for dinner and drinks! I keep coming back!! 6/28/24 I normally love everything about Mud Bugs, and I am not changing my stars. However this is the second time we have come and sit at the bar when they have someone new. While I am all for training your customers should not be the test. I sent my drink back to the regular bar tender and it was amazing! (Coping Mechanism) When I order a coping mechanism I expect it to taste the same each time. Its uncomfortable to send something back when you know someone is new. I love mud bugs but this shouldnt happen. When they reach the customer they need to be 100%.

Very nice place. Host was nice. We made reservations but still had to wait 20 min. We sat down and the server told us right away not to get our sights set on a couple menu items. Chicken fried steak and bananas foster French toast were 86d. My mom ordered a house bloody Mary and it was TERRIBLE. My parents vacationed in NOLA, so mom was hoping for something similar to what she had there. It was NOT. It was sweet and very bitter. Server told us it had cloves in it. We ordered beignets as an app. They were great. Entrees came quickly. Dad had no complaints on his shrimp poboy. Mom and I both had shrimp and grits. Came with three kinda small grilled shrimp (which were decent) and one fried (also good). Under that was a fried egg and a teeny scoop of cold bland grits. There was a sauce around the grits, also cold and bland. Waiter did tell us there was no punch, but since my other two choices were 86d from menu I had no choice. Waiter was GREAT. I was super excited to eat here but wont return.

My friend and I went to dinner at Mud Bugs last night. After seeing a thread on Facebook, I was excited to give mud bugs a try. I had only been there for lunch a long time ago. The place was packed, not unexpected on a Friday night. Our wait was an hour, also not unexpected as we didnt have a prior reservation. (BTW, based on watching how long people with reservations waited and other reviews Ive seen, having an advance reservation just means that you move to the front of the line when you come in, not that you actually have a table at that time, just fyi) Our waiter, David, was attentive and friendly. Sadly, thats where the good experience ended. I ordered the Big Sexy Pasta, but the waiter explained that the chef was substituting a different dish for the night. What he described sounded good, but what I received was pasta with fatty cuts of meat, rubbery mushrooms, and overcooked shrimp in a weird sauce. I even told my friend that it seemed like the chef made a special dish out of ingredients that needed to be used up. And then I was charged double, $52 instead of $24 - which I was not informed about at order. Normally, I would just move on, never say anything, and just not return. But having owned several businesses previously, including a restaurant, I wouldnt want anyone else to have the experience I had.

We were very pleasantly surprised by Mudbugs! We are east coast seafood people originally so we typically steer away from seafood in Texas but overall really enjoyed many seafood components at Mudbugs! The drinks were phenomenal, priced relatively high but worth it. Their wine list is amazing and they have half price bottles Thursday, which we d absolutely consider coming back. We started with the Brussels and the calamari. I d recommend both but especially the Brussels! Sweet, savory, different textures -so awesome! The calamari was very fresh, not chewy and large pieces! They were fried to perfection. The gumbo was easily the strongest food item we had! Unbelievably flavorful, full of meats and seafood and a great kick of spicy! I really enjoyed the side caeser, you can definitely tell they make the dressing in house. I had the taterfish for dinner. It was very good though the red fish was a bit fishy so if you re not into that, I wouldn t order it with red fish. The fish does change regularly. The shrimp and grits had good flavor but the grits were down to a very thick soup consistency, which my partner didn t care for. He is not a grit expert though so he finished the plate! We closed with the key lime pie and bread pudding. The key lime was good, the bread pudding was better. So much flavor, a wonderful caramel sauce, great vanilla ice cream- my only qualm with the bread pudding was that it isn t warm. It is very thick, double layer of what felt like soft brick style bread pudding and I think some heat on the BP would have been PERFECT. Overall, recommend MudBugs and would absolutely be back. Our server was fantastic also!

Delicious, I went for brunch. I ordered a big bowl of gumbo from the appetizer menu and really enjoyed it. I am admittedly not the best judge of gumbo, but the mix of flavors was lovely and everything was cooked to a satisfying texture. If you cant handle spicy, having some coffee with cream in it can take the gumbos spice level down between mild and medium spicy (gauged like salsa spiciness). Otherwise it is between medium and hot. Servers were very friendly and helpful. Dietary restrictions: Most of the dishes that usually wouldnt be gluten free are due to the breading they use (eg the chicken fried steak is gluten free)

Place is awesome! Very attentive and friendly service. Atmosphere is open without being overly loud or losing any charm. Food came out at a great pace allowing us ample time to enjoy our appetizer and beverage, but not so long we were waiting around for our entré. Very reasonably priced for upscale dining experience. We will absolutely be back, as everything sounds delicious AND they have a seasonal menu.

I celebrated my birthday last night at Mudbugs with a party of 7. Not only was the food amazing but our server, David, was phenomenal! He made our whole night! He was extremely experienced in the industry, knowledgeable on the food, and funny (kept our party laughing and in good spirits). Leah also contributed to making my birthday special as she sat us in VIP seating. Overall, it was a great experience! Well be back! Previous review: Visited Mugbugs last night with a party of 5. It was our first time and we LOVED it! We had tender calamari, Canadian oysters, steak but my favorite was the shrimp and grits! The shrimp was tender and well-seasoned, and the creamy sauce was succulent! Our server Evan was very personable, attentive and he kept our glasses full! We couldnt have asked for a better experience. I cant wait to return soon!

Unfortunately needing to update my review on our last experience. My family (with our 1 year old) and I went out to a late lunch. Got seated and sat at the table for 10 min with no service. Asked the hostess if she could get someone so we could start ordering. She told me that everyone in the restaurant was in a meeting and they would help us when they are done. I was flabbergasted. We ended up leaving. So apparently staff meetings are more important than customers. I have never been treated so poorly in a restaurant that I spend $100-$200 a meal in. Good news is there are other restaurants in the area that want my business.

Artistic and tasteful cuisine with great sauces and a variety of fresh seafood. Attentive service. I was surprised at how many servers, I counted 3 along with our waiter which made 4, made sure drinks and food was always timely. The cocktails are well prepared, well garnished, consistent and used top shelf liquors. All 4 at our table sampled our dishes and cocktails. They were all fabulous and we all agreed it was the best meal we ever had.

Had been a regular here but then moved further away and hadnt been in a while. Came here for the first time since moving and was pretty surprised and disappointed. My husband and i had to wait nearly 20 min for a table even though we had a reservation and were perfectly on time. Waitress mistook my order of medium well steak for medium rare. I never send things back but even for medium rare it seemed under so i did ask for it to be cooked a little longer. rather than fire a new steak, they cooked my same steak further on extremely high heat to get it done quickly and it came back completely charred. It wasnt worth asking for it to go back again as my husband had been waiting to start his own food. Not only that but they didnt take off the price of one of our glasses of wine or anything which we assumed would be the least they would do for the trouble. My carrots were also cold even the first time my plate came out and they didnt replace them when my food came out the second time either. Will come back again because we had such great experiences in the past but definitely felt like the money was not well spent this evening in particular.

So we placed a reservation for 8:15 for our anniversary dinner. This past Friday the 28th. We arrived at 8:10 and we were told to take a seat in the waiting area, they would be with us shortly. After checking in we waited until 9:15 for our table. Mind you this whole time were with our newborn who is a ticking time bomb. It wasnt until we decided to get up to leave, and go to the one and only place in Buda that is consistent with their service , and that is Brooklyns, it wasnt until we decided to get up to leave that the hostess tried to get us to stay by saying they had our table ready. When I could clearly look through the restaurant and see no empty tables ready to seat us. Im sorry but why have a reservation system if it isnt going to be implemented well. People make reservations and rely on that time. If you have some customers there waiting for a table for over an hour past the reservation time, maybe you should offer them a free drink or something for the inconvenience. Maybe an appetizer Jeff. Mudbugs failed us in that department, first impressions is the most important . Especially for a new restaurant. Not only that , the owner , mr. Jeff who in his own words , on his mission statement for his restaurant , says he takes his customers very seriously and likes to talk with them and what not, get to know them and their story , blah blah blah. Well if thats true then maybe the owner should also interact with the people sitting up front for over an hour to get a table to eat his food. I witnessed him going from table to table and giving them his fake utmost attention, but totally ignore the people waiting up front. Knowing that everybody up here has been waiting well over an hour for the reservations , he couldnt take the time out to speak with us? We will not be going back because theres no food on this Earth worth going back to that experience again or even taking the chance that that experience might happen again. I doubt that this review will change anybodys mind that will go there in the future but just be very leery about their reservation system. And to be honest from the food that I was seeing its all overpriced, we could over hear the table closest to us talking about the steaks , they were not impressed. Also dont order the bloody Mary. Probably the worst Ive ever had , it tasted like a holiday meal, way too much clove or allspice , wasnt too sure what was added to that mix, but if its any indication of the rest of the menu , well not interested. Im pretty sure the rest of the people leaving good reviews on here are easily pleased and shallow when it comes to really truly judging a restaurants worth. Mr Jeff your mudbugs restaurant was the worst experience me and my wife have had to date. Were used to Perrys steakhouse level of service and ambiance, and you have a long ways to go Mr. Jeff......

I ve had dinner at MudBugs a few time in the past three years or so but this was my first time popping in for Sunday brunch. The wait for table seating for a party of one was about 30 minutes, so I grabbed an open seat at the bar and ordered a sweet tea. It wasn t the sweet tea that your grandmother makes and keeps in the jar but maybe that was a sign that I didn t need the sugar, lol. I was struggling between choosing the N.O.B.S (New Orleans BBQ Shrimp) or the Grammie Breakfast but being unsure of how spice the shrimp might be, Grammie won. They allowed me to substitute the toast for French toast and I m so glad that I went this route. Everything was good, I watched a bit of the Patriots v. Falcons game and there was a lady sharing her beautiful vocals and guitar picking! Plenty of free parking and an overall great spot, with indoor and outdoor seating. Parking: Street parking, parking lot and another city lot a short walk away.

3 stars is not a knock on the food, the food is great. 3 stars is for poor communication within the restaurant. We went on a Thursday, specifically to try the social hour. We called prior to arriving and the hostess confirmed that social hour went from 2-close (9pm) at the bar top. We get there right before 8pm, sit at the bar and ask about social hour. Bartender tells us that ended at 6pm. When we told her the hostess said it was till close, bartender told us she was wrong. That was that. So we enjoyed a couple drinks and our meal, all very good. But while were sitting there eating, we see on the tv above the bar that theyre advertising social hour, Monday-Thursday, 2pm-Close, bar top only..... poor communication apparently, no one on the same page.

This review is delayed by a few years because I really am reluctant to leave bad reviews. Especially in the small town of Buda, that we love so much. Since I won t visit this establishment based on my experience, I do feel like it needs to be shared. We came here for our first dinner outing after COVID in July of 2020. We read that they were following masking protocols so we felt comfortable dining here outside. Our server did not wear a mask at all during our meal which made us uncomfortable. On top of that, one of their outdoor chairs collapsed out of thin air on my husband (he is not a chair breaking size, mind you). He had mentioned earlier in the night that all the outdoor chairs were built improperly (they have all been rebuilt since). It scraped his back up pretty bad and was embarrassing to say the least. The owner gave us a free dessert for the trouble. Once we got back home I privately messaged the owner letting him know that we were disappointed that they didn t follow their own Covid protocols (wearing masks). He apologized, thanked me for privately letting him know and offered to treat us to a really special night the next time we came in. About a month later I messaged him letting him know we wanted to take him up on the offer. He made us a reservation for that evening which is when things went downhill even more so than the first experience. We waited over 10 minutes at the host stand in a near empty restaurant before we were helped. Once seated we waited over 15 minutes for WATER. Cocktails arrived around 30 minutes after we were seated and dinner took about an hour from the time we ordered. Once our dinner came we waited over 5 minutes for silverware and finally had to get up and get it ourselves. At the end of this awful experience that we were being treated to, we received a bill for the entire meal without the owner ever even stopping by to check in on us. Again, I sent him a private message after the horrible ordeal where he offered to make it up to us the next time . No thanks. I can forgive subpar food, but not service, and even more so poor ownership.

What a delightful restaurant in such an unexplace like Buda, TX. I say this because the restaurant feels like it should be located in much more urban environment like Austin. The complex of shops where it is located should definitely be explored. The service was perfect. Sadly, I thought the food offered was only slightly above average. The Cesar salad was great. Not a true Cesar dressing, but the flavors were spot on. The gumbo had a more herbal flavor than a true gumbo, causing it to miss the mark. It was also unusually spicy hot. Finally, the shrimp dish was just outright boring. Mind you, it didnt taste bad, just not something I could roll my eyes and say how wonderful it was.

The cocktails were tasty but not very strong. The entrées!!! Meatloaf, shrimp and grits and grateful shrimp (their version of shrimp brochette) -10/10!!! The taterfish got a 8/10 due to the texture of the potato crust. We will definitely be back and look forward to trying the Daily Dozen.

We went here after rave reviews from my Celiac groups. The calamari was so delicious. My husbands shrimp and grits was amazing. One of my oysters was just the shell and breading, no oyster. Not fun biting into that. LOL. The chocolate trifle was so delicious. The waiter wasnt all there. Seemed distracted and service wasnt great. But the reason for the two stars came after. My husband was sick all night. Not sure if he ate gluten or got food poisoning.

Writing this review after a bad experience with management. Went in last night to eat with a party of 5 at 5:45. Was told by the host the wait would be 40 minutes.. ended up waiting over two hours (sat down at 8). Host came up to us multiple times during our wait to apologize because they had over booked reservations, which is why she misquoted us and we were waiting so long. Offered to speak to a manager about comping some drinks or appetizers etc due to the long wait. She came back saying manager approved comp of some drinks off our $189 bar tab we racked up just waiting to eat. Nothing was comped so we asked to speak to a manager out of confusion. Here is where I personally became upset. Manger hardly gave us time of day and said I ve never heard of anyone comping a $200 bar tab . In my opinion, super rude and not how you treat customers who are spending well over $300 at your restaurant for the night. I personally felt the food is over priced and overrated even before this experience. After this experience with management don t care to go back.
