It was my first time there, the environment was really chill and comfortable. I went there to meet up with a friend, we talked and talked for a while without knowing it was the happy hour, and when I closed my tap, its probably the lowest bar tap Ive ever had in 2024!

Always a fun time at Nates!! We love a girls night here- theres typically live music and something going on nearby. The drinks are always delicious and the bartenders have always been nice. Indoor or outdoor youll find a great atmosphere! Parking: Just depending on which night you go, parking can be super easy during the week and it might take a while on the weekend.

Unfortunately I never got to enjoy anything about it! I followed the directions about how to make a reservation for a group via email and NEVER got a response. I called 3 times, the first 2 times someone said that the person handling the reservation would contact me in 24 hours it took 2 days. The third time I called the person said I ll get right back with you and still never heard back. So my big group who would have spent money will take our business elsewhere.

We had a great experience and we look forward to our next trip. The live music was exceptional and the drinks were great. We had never been to this location or Buda but we were really impressed. Deceiving happy hour.. What drew us to visiting Nates was their advertised happy hour on their website. $4 texas pints, great! All together we ordered 3 pints from texas breweries and a happy hour cocktail expecting our tab to be around $20. When we got the bill all of the beers were full price, plus a dollar more than what was advertised on their printed menu. They stated the beer we got isnt on happy hour ... But how isnt it when you advertise it as so? I am just saying when you advertise on your website, and happy hour menu as $4 texas pints with no disclaimer of only certain ones thats entirely deceiving and if wed have known, we would have ordered something else, or gone somewhere else entirely. This was our first visit to Nates, as weve recently moved to Buda and although the atmosphere was great Id rather go to a place that actual stands by having all texas pints on a great happy hour, like pinballz or hays city store and can get food specials as well.

Came here for a drink after dinner and to get some work done. The drink was delicious and very well priced. The patio was nice and very spacious with fans/misters which kept me cool in the Texas heat. The WiFi was great as I able to use my laptop outside. Some other reviews said the WiFi didn t reach outdoors but I had no issues! There was also a live cover band which made for a nice ambiance!

I was in town to see family. They recommend yall. It was Thursday night at 9:30pm on 13th of June. We sat in a table across from bar. The bartender was nice, he changed the TV to a game we were interested in, after that service came to an end. The wait staff and there failures to take care of customers. Im sure most were local people and wait staff people know them. Im just disappointed that your wait staff failed to provide service to us.

Enjoyed our first visit on the patio a few months ago and thought wed go back for our what could be our new happy hour cocktail go-to.. We ordered an Old Fashioneds with Garrison Brothers Bourbon--nice, locally made bourbon just a step up from house brand on a special evening. They were nice--to the tune of $27 each. Next round was with Bulleit for $11 each--though we were nearly charged $27 each for this round too. Dont think well be heading back anytime soon, even for the lovely patio and relaxed setting. Kind of left a bitter aftertaste due to the excessive mark-up.

Very Good During the Day! - Significantly Worse At Night. The daytime experience at Nates is great. Its a good place to work. Plenty of seating. Seating of many styles (rigid wooden seats, lounge chairs, stools etc.). The internet has worked (indoors) everytime I have visited. Jackie is awesome! She was the reason I came back for a second and third (day) time. I also met Fin (sp? sorry) who is equally as courteous and makes very very good espresso and- If you like mocha, they are fantastic at Nates! I met GM Will, who was nice/ professional. Will was kind enough to give me a run down of the history of this incredibly well preserved & restored Buda Landmark. I came one evening when Jackie was working and met Hope and Jennifer that night- who have also been consistently great. However, the remainder of my experiences in the evenings have trended downward enough to bring the overall rating down and warrant this comment. There are two bartenders who are consistently and unnecessarily unpleasant. I still want to give them the benefit of the doubt, but Andy and Cortney are bad for Nates business. They are nasty and arrogant. They represent what is wrong with Austin these days. I am confident I was never rude however, these 2 employees are confidently rude and unprofessional. They make personal insults to patrons. After this past visit (at night), I have followed up with Buda Chamber of Commerce and the BBB. Kindness is not weakness. Arrogance, rudeness, and lack of self awareness are weaknesses. I recognize that the service industry is hard and as human beings you are entitled to a bad day. I also recognize that as humans the only thing you owe me and others is nonviolence. You dont have to like someone or even be nice to them. But you can t be in the service industry and be a jerk- insulting and genuinely rude. Yall- This isnt a movie. This isnt NYC, LA, Miami......or even Austin. This is Buda...and its real life. It is only slinging drinks- take it down a notch and lose the nasty attitude. Its supposed to be a pleasant, fun, and welcoming experience- not whatever these two emoloyees are serving.

I discovered Nates just from driving by it. I was immediately comfortable taking a seat at the bar to order a glass of wine. Deanna poured me a glass, and we began talking. Soon, the general manager joined us and began to tell me all about Nates. Nates is a friendly place that serves coffees, teas, beer, nice wine selections, and classy cocktails. Prices are reasonable, and they have happy hour. People are as likely to drop in for a latte as a bar drink. And dogs are welcome, too! Moreover, I love the music there! Every Tuesday at 7:30 pm, local musicians gather to play the blues! Thursday nights are band nights on the patio. Such talent in the glow of the beautiful, fire-pit lit patio! And, truthfully, Nates books fantastic musicians all the time! Saturdays are especially fun with big crowds. Tuesdays are bingo nights. Except for a chalkboard at the entrance, Nates does not advertise. So I strongly advise dropping in or giving them a call to see what they have planned for the week! Nates is on Main Street in Buda. It has become my special place to meet friends and make new new ones!

Had the worst experience here. I told the assistant gm MARCELL about a broken glass I saw underneath the table, that someone else broke, by the way but, punishes me? and cut me off even tho, I wasn t intoxicated, I had only ordered four drinks for myself and was ordering for everyone else on my tab, he proceeded to cut me off and when I confronted him respectfully, he told me a complete lie, that one of his bartenders told him, I was breaking glasses all over the bar while ordering a drink, like what? not only is the lies of an assistant manager a complete joke, this whole place is a joke, I m not from here and came to have a nice time here in Buda for my bestfriends birthday and It completely ruined my entire night. For someone of authority to lie on my character is exactly why I m writing this review. He saw the one girl (me) he s never seen before and blames me for the entirety of the problem. I will never come back to this place. Just know they will treat you how they are feeling at the moment. That s all I have to say.

Had a bad experience with one of the bartenders ( tall white guy ) he was very rude. My boyfriend and I were sitting at the bar ( like other people) he asked if we can move so other people can order ..he wouldn t tell the guy next to me that was blocking the bar way and when I refused he got upset. I was letting people order and I apologized to him. I got another drink and he told my bartender that was serving us to stop serving us. We never have issues there, but this guy got upset ( after I apologize) bc he got a taste of his own medicine. The mgr was nice and paid for our drinks bc he felt bad. This guy needs to know how to treat customers better than that. We spend a lot of money there every time we visit. To be treated like that is unprofessional.

I had high hopes for this place. Maybe we got an off night... We went last weekend (May 13th). We were hitting a few spots in Buda to celebrate out anniversary. The ambiance was cool (hence two stars instead of one) but the bartender had no idea what was going on... I mentioned I was looking on the website for what special cocktails were available to which she responded that the website wasnt up to date. I asked her what their current drink specials were, she named off two drinks but gave no details as to what was in them so I asked if either drink was a vodka drink and she couldnt remember the drinks she told me previously. There should at least be a drink menu of some sort or a board with the current specialty drinks on it... maybe I missed it but youd think the staff behind the bar would know what they are. We opted to just get a lemon drop and an old fashion, both of which were mediocre and we sat outside. I will say that the waitress tending the outside area did come to check on us twice while we were out there which was nice but the bartender just ruined Nates for us. Theres more to working behind a bar than just letting your chest hang out for tips. We might try it again sometime and see if one of the guy bartenders know what they are doing but we dont get to get out to open so Im sure itll be a while.

Really used to love this place. I would drive 35 minutes every week with my dog to grab a cup of coffee and get some work done. This was before Covid of course. The only thing I would have complained about is the lack of decaf coffee because I m extremely caffeine sensitive, but I loved the place so much that I d suffer through and enjoy a cup of coffee regardless. I used to come all of the time and being in the service industry myself years ago I was a little disappointed that they never added decaf options and they still haven t despite how much they ve probably been asked. In my experience as a former member in the bar industry especially at a local stop we would special order certain things for our regulars. That s how you keep them coming back. Anyways, the real reason I m writing this today isn t because of the lack of decaf but the fact that I drive 35 minutes to come here only to see a sign that says they are closed and will open later. This isn t the first time this has happened to me. Again, I ve been in the service industry, and most of our company parties would happen on Mondays, but they don t update their website or socials when this happens. Sometimes, I don t even chance coming here because I never know if they will even be open. I really do enjoy this place, but it s been hard to be a consistent customer again unfortunately.

Nates is a cozy little downtown gem located in central Buda. The coffee is amazing and the sandwiches are healthy and keep you feeling wholesome on a fall day. Came here with a friend on a Thursday night, opened a tab, and ordered one drink. At the end of the night, I paid $4 and closed my tab. I called the place and talked to a guy named Eric who said he was busy and if I emailed him, he would check it out and probably reverse the extra charge. Well, next day by late afternoon, I hadnt heard anything so I stopped in because I was close by. Long story short - I did speak with Eric but he showed me a credit card printout with a totally different fee than what I had paid/seen on my banking and also mentioned that I was charged an additional gratuity/walked tab? Apparently, this info is on a sign above their bar. He pointed to a very small white strip so small that I dont think a person sitting three feet away could read it. He offered no recourse and said that I needed to produce the receipt for a refund, which I had left at the bar figuring that I didnt need to worry about a $4 check. I sent him images of both amounts that were taken from my account a day later, but received no email response. Wont be returning. I felt incredibly scammed here. Their service is awful too.

I used to love going to Nates until recently. Aside from the great ambiance, open patio, fire pit and decent drinks, I love the location. However, during my last visit, I had a really off putting encounter with one of the male bartenders. When I first arrived, I was carded by a female employee who served me two drinks upon reviewing my Texas issued ID. I went to sit down with my friend and after finishing our drinks I went back into the bar to order two more. When I went inside, the male bartender stared at me for sometime and then offered to assist me with getting two more drinks. He requested he see my ID again after I had already been carded and served two drinks with an open tab. At first I gave him the benefit of the doubt because I understand that I do look very young for my age and he was just trying to do his job. In addition, this is a neighborhood bar with many regular patrons so he probably had not seen me before. Thus, I went back and got my ID from the table and showed it to him again. After three minutes of him starting at my ID he took it to the back and questioned the female bartender about my ID who had already checked it. He then started scratching at it and bending it several times to see if it was fake. I told him that I was indeed over 21 and had other forms of IDs to prove it but that he was making me very uncomfortable with his approach. I started to get flustered because it was getting the attention of other patrons and I felt very singled out especially being the only African American woman in the entire establishment. It truly me feel as though that because I was a young black women who seemed out of the norm, it took part in his questioning of my integrity and the validity of my ID. After several minutes he finally gave me my ID back and told me , fake IDs are really getting great these days...dont get upset..at least you can take it as a compliment that when youre older youll still look so young. I was very taken a back about that comment as I felt that was extremely misogynistic of him to say as a Womens beauty and looks arent tied to her age. This entire encounter really upset me because I felt that prior to this experience, Nate was a very friendly, safe place for people of all ages, ethnicities and genders to have a relaxing drink and watch the sunset.

I m a local and I use to LOVE this place. I use to come here all the time and grab coffee or a drink and just hang out. But the last two times I ve been here, my husband and I have been treated horrible!!!!! The first time it was just bad customer service and the bartenders were just rude and busy. The second time though, the bartenders over charged us and refused to explain to us their reasoning for overcharging us. We finally annoyed them enough to get an answer and was told this is a new bartender, he undercharged you for your first set of drinks. So we will have to over charge you for your these ones to make up for it. I m sorry what?! That s on the establishment not the customer. And when we explained that they should take the hit. We got told that we shouldn t have even said anything and just went with the prices. We reached out to management TWICE on the issue and never got a response back. I use to LOVE coming here. The drinks are good and so is the atmosphere. But honestly, management doesn t care about their customers and the bartenders are rude and impolite. We will never be back to spend $29 in a SINGLE old fashion!

I went with a group of three and it was a nice experience. The bartender was busy but still made time to greet us and get our order. There are several seating options with a bar top, lounge area, and large outdoor patio. Chill atmosphere. We ordered the bluebonnet, the R&Basil, and a margarita. All three were really delicious and had a good amount of punch.

We love this place! We live about 2 minutes away, but because of our lifestyle and several young children, we often cant go. However, we drive through everyday and Im so jealous everytime!
