We really enjoy the boiled platters. If you like heat, their Extra Spicy is actually . Food is so fresh, I have found baby crabs inside mussels. (Not a joke.) We have got overcooked shrimp a few times, but more often than not it is just right. Only reason for the 3 stars on Atmosphere is because of their A/C. It seems to be malfunctioning too often. Staff and set up is nice.

I have been to multiple crab restaurants similar to this location throughout the United States. I eat crab from spots like this on a regular basis sometimes twice a week. My experience today at the Surfing Crab which was my first time trying this Crab restaurant was mediocre. The waitress was nice and polite and quick to respond to our needs as a customer. After the food was brought to our table, another server brought a signature cocktail drink which cost approximately $12 and placed it near the edge of the table. For anyone that knows eating crab your hands tend to get oily. While trying to move the drink across the table it accidentally slipped from my hand and half of the drink was spilled on the table before I consumed any of it. The waitress was quick to respond and took the half spilled cocktail and advised that she was going to speak to the manager to have another drink made. The manager quickly came and asked if I wanted another drink and I said yes I am sorry it was an accident . Sure enough the drink was replaced and after finishing our meal the waitress brought us the bill. Reviewing the bill I noticed they charged me the half spilled drink that they took from the table and advised that the manager did not want to compensate for the half spilled drink that was taken from their staff. If we would have known that my spilled drink was going to be charged I would have consumed the rest of the drink instead of getting charged twice for one drink. Being a lover for crab I will be searching for other restaurants and will not come back to the Surfing Crab because of how the manager handled this situation.

The seafood has been good to great every time. I wasnt a big fan of the Surf and Turf burger that had crab on it, but the fries, seafood boils, calamari, and seafood baskets have been winners. Good service, decent prices, and a good clean atmosphere have been present each time weve visited. Parking: Not hard to find parking. If it ever filled up, additional mall parking is very close to the restaurant. Kid-friendliness: Kids menu, high chairs, kid-friendly atmosphere.

Mediocre experience with meh seafood. Would likely take a friend elsewhere to eat, and we are unlikely to go back. It wasnt bad food, just not memorable. The server asked if we would like appetizers, and when we said no, but we were ready to order, she told us she would be right back, and she was, 20 minutes later. The decor is really cool and everyone was nice.

My first time here was excellent, food was great, service was too. The waitress came and check on us often. I decided to come a second time, i was disappointed! Food was great but service was almost nonexistent. We basically received our food and the waiter was nowhere to be seen! No refills, nothing.I did complaint to someone , don t know if it was the manager. I did not leave a tip, i did try to tip the busser, and told him he did a good job, but he completely ignored me.

So, I was told about this location, and I decided to pull up to the spot. The crowd was quaint, and the environment seemed quite well. Immediately when I open the door I was welcomed to the wonderful smell of broiled seafood. Excitement built inside of me for the feast I was about to prepare for, my mouth watering as I saw the plates of other customers already eating at their tables. Waitress guided me to my seat and I looked at the menu which was already ready for me. I decided to order the two combo 1 lb of crawfish and 1 lb of head on shrimp and on the side three blue crabs. The plate also came with several pieces of sausage corn and potatoes all of which taste very good. All in all I got the seasonings in the garlic butter and every piece of seafood taste wonderful, the Crawfish could certainly be better but I dont expect a lot in the valley especially being a New Orleans native. I highly suggest them to get some good recipes from the River Parishes such as Lafayette in Louisiana on how to boil crawfish even better, but I give a pass its been a hard season and all the flavors combined were a party in my mouth. Service was great the drink machines due to the Brownsville water need to be filtered because the drink tastes like cleaner and soda combined and was not pleasurable but the food was absolutely amazing as a whole and I will certainly be back. Made a return trip and always good as usual .

Food was ok, I had a crab and shrimp boil. I felt like it was way too greasy I was afraid to dip the shrimp into the juices because all I could taste was oil. Also ordered an order of raw oysters and they had no flavor I m more than sure they were left out and submerged into the water while opened. Lemon and hot sauce couldn t save them. But service was excellent I sat at the bar and was attended by a very good waiter not sure of his name. I am also from Houston so they were up for a big challenge in satisfying my taste buds.

Craving crawfish, we tried Surfing Crab based on reviews but were left disappointed. Comparing to Sams Boat in Houston, the boil was bland and the crawfish tasted muddy. We also ordered shrimp and calamari and the calamari was too rubbery to chew. Either we tried them on a bad day or the great reviews before us have never had a good boil before. Overall the Surfing Crab was average, except for the bathrooms which Id rate a 1 or 2 based on cleanliness.

Places the first order of the day for pickup. Was left outside for 15 min. Went inside food was on counter. Food tasted like it got reheated from the day before. The shrimp was soggy like it had been left left soaking a long time . That shouldnt happen if its the first order of the day . Shrimp did not taste bad but the texture was so soggy that it was not a good experience.

The bartender is everything including the food. Such a great place but I do believe the alcohol is watered down in this surfing crab. I always order myself a good martini and the Hendrix here happened to be way under taste Its definitely watered down and I happened to order one but was given the drink free after mentioning the taste but overall a good seafood restaurant.

Had King Crab on our visit, living in Louisiana, you get used to a certain level of boil and butter sauce with your boils with that said it was alright. Butter sauce could have been more buttery and needed more garlic, but it satisfied. The potatoes and corn that came with it were to be honest, really yummy. Also had the calamari, and that was EXCELLENT! I hate that I dont remember my servers name, but he was pretty awesome. Brought everything we needed or might have needed to our table before our food even came out with extra Lemons, which was a super plus (I can never have enough lemon slices with seafood) he never hovered and allowed us to truly enjoy our meal, never letting our drinks go low but without being excessive. He was just great. Thanks for the good food great service. Would definitely go back when we visit Brownsville.

Pablo was an amazing server and bartender! The atmosphere was great. We really enjoyed yourselves for being the first time here! My husband and mother both got the Brownsville Special, offered by Pablo, and I got the steak fried rice. Jane, the manager, offered extra garlic butter for the seafood boil and yum yum sauce for my fried rice and it truly was YUM YUM. Thursdays they have $5 margaritas it was awesome. If you ever come for a lunch date I recommend sitting on the bar side. It was secluded and you get more socialization with the staff. The cheese cake is VERY RICH. I recommend it 10000%

Great experience. The staff was awesome! Boil bags were full of butter and poured out nice a streaming hot. Im not from Louisiana, so I cant say if it was authentic taste, but the taste of everything was superb. Crab was great! See you next time. Surfing Crab 4-19-24 I stopped for lunch today with my daughter. The good: Bernice was our waitress and was excellent. The place still looks nice inside. The bad: Atmosphere is not the same as it used to be. Music is lound, and I dont appreciate sitting with my 9 year old daughter and the music saying Im vanilla, baby, Ill choke you, but I aint no killer, baby (I dont like no whips and chains) The food was barely warm. It tasted lime it all had been cooked in the same oil and the oil was old and not hot enough. You can expect fried food to be greasy, but there is a difference in food quality when cooking food in hot, fresh oil. The fries tasted like bland fish residue, and the flounder and shrimp tasted like bland old oil fish.

This place is great. I walked over there and sat at the bar for a while. My plan was a couple rounds of booze and some food to go. I did about 5 rounds. Had a great time. Got back home and unpacked the food. Man. Incredible.. I travel all over the country. If I didnt like something I wouldnt post but man it was incredible. Seafood costs what it costs but I dont regret coming here at all. Very good. Level 1 spicy was plenty spicy for me. I put jalapeños on everything and Im a gringo but that was perfect. The red potatoes could have been a bit more soft but hey that aint what I was there for. Id give 10 stars if I could. I think the bartender said his name was juan.. I hope Im not making that up haha but it was great man.

The service was lousy. We were a party of13 . They took our order took a long time to bring us the order and the place wasn t that busy to say they didn t have the time to bring it at a timely manner. When finally we received it it was luke warm ugh . Then by the time we saw the waiter again. To tell him about the food it s was already getting cold . Then when we needed refills on our drinks it took forever. Very very disappointing. As much hike they put on this place it was again disappointing. The Surfing Crab has the best fried rice in town! I enjoyed the Jumbo Shrimp Fried Rice and got a some Old Bay and Garlic Butter Seasoning with Spicy. I dipped my shrimp ! My husband loves the Shrimp Po Boy Sandwich with Fries! He also likes the Corn on the Cob! Our server Bernice was friendly. Ms. Jane the manager also checked up on us to make sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our meal!

Hands down one of our favorite restaurants! The food is always amazing, it never disappoints. Pablo and the other bartenders provide the best service, they re very attentive. Only complaint is that this restaurant is often out of Topo Chico.

Beautifully decorated. We were very excited to eat here, but beware Friday nights. 45 minute wait ( not to bad) Our waiter was nice but he had our table of 6, 2 larger tables of 10+ and another smaller table. He was running but we got little attention. Took a while to order and get our food. We all went with fried dishes....fish, chicken tenders, shrimp, French fries, & onion rings. It all tasted the same, So disappointed. Looking at other tables, they mostly ordered the seafood baskets. Maybe that was our mistake. Also, the same tune / beat played the whole 2 hours we were there... very annoying!

Pablo and Luis had the upmost customer service, I will definitely be coming back for the shrimp and the service. Wife enjoyed it, loved the potatoes and seasoning. Loved the family section, hostess was very welcoming. Food runner and busters really did their part and asking if I was okay or if I was done with our plates.
