About the Company
rating: 4.2
Significant to the antebellum period of Texas history and the tumultuous era of Reconstruction, this site hosted a sizable plantation operation and two-story Greek Revival-style house. Levi Jordan moved his family and 12 enslaved workers to Texas to establish a sugar and cotton plantation on the San Bernard River in the 1840s. The site highlights the multiple perspectives and evolving relationships of those who lived and worked on the land during the 19th century. Today, the Levi Jordan Plantation provides a unique opportunity to understand the evolving agricultural history of the South and the early African American experience in Texas.

A wonderful example of Texas plantation history. The archeologist was fantastic and spent a great deal of time explaining the site. This is well worth the trip.

The team here is wonderful! We had our first visit today and really enjoyed the property. It so amazing to see how the state is preserving the property and have developed the visitor center to share the history with the public.

The walls dont talk, but the interpreters do...and they make the experience so much richer with their knowledge and excitement about the place and time. Great boardwalk to the visitor center and lovely walk through the pecan, oak and walnut trees to Levi Jordans home. The hands on archeology lab was interesting. Looking forward to more interpretive/learning events to deepen my understanding and appreciation for all the peoples that settled and built the cradle of Texas.

An amazing historical site that offers an in-depth look at archeological techniques. A brilliant staff educated us on the property, their lab and artifacts of the plantation.

Its a new historical site. I first visited Hog Varner historical site and the staff recommended me Levi Jordan site(its free if I paid here). So far there is not much to see, but the big and quiet green space surrounding the old house is enjoyable.
